Just To See How Far It Is - Episode 1: off-the-beaten track adventures of a man and his dogs

- This first episode tells the story from the beginning - where the idea started and tracks how it quickly developed into reality - 30 days on the road with his dogs!
In what is a crazy 3 weeks from 'green lighting' the idea to hitting the road, Marius Roberts takes you along for the ride - from sourcing the vehicle to getting geared up, to impossible deadlines and the awesome people who helped make it happen.
For a guy who doesn't camp and has never bought into the overlanding lifestyle, he is very definitely out of his comfort zone!

Wow such wonderful memories of the country of my upbringing. Primary school in Kleinzee (near Hondeklipbaai), High school and nursing training in Cape Town. Lots of hiking trails - Amatola, Robertson, etc, etc, off-road 4wd. And plenty of rockclimbing (and no not an indoor wall). And soooo many sundowners. Memories of childhood include finding crayfish in the freezing cold waters of Kleinzee.
Thanks for the message Tara...we do have THE most amazing country hey! I haven't spent enough time up the West Coast so this really was such a special experience and one I need to do again and again and again because I realise I have just scratched the surface! Glad you enjoyed it...
Marius I only found your videos today on u-tube, what excellent visuals, I am planning a route from Lydenburg to Springbok and than down the West Coast, please let the videos roll. Regards Jeff.
Thanks for message and kind words Jeff!
The good news is you can binge watch Season 1 - there are plenty of episodes as well did this 3 years ago.

Sorry Thabo - been a CRAZY time with Kyalami 9 Hour TV production and my new motoring show but I am editing flat-out to get the episodes out there
Great stuff ...
It's due to the lockdown that I've decided to plan trips every few months to a places I've never been to.
Yep, there has been some good that has come out of all the chaos...makes you really appreciate what matters, what is important...Enjoy it Ryan!!
Destination unknown - I ❤️ those words. 💥🤙🏻 Fantastic content and I can’t wait to see the rest of the journey. 😁
Thanks so much Johannes!!! It really ended up being a life changing adventure...
Was waiting for this....thanks Marius
Thanks Eddy - lots more to come!
Exceptional Marius. Awesome footage and content. Love it!
Thanks so much Richard!!! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series
Wow what a great watch! I was initially concerned when I saw the duration as many youtubers can’t keep me watching longer than 12-15min. Very entertaining well done.
Thanks Joe THAT'S a really cool compliment! New to the UA-cam thing and maybe that's a good thing - have gone into this with a TV mindset but am enjoying not having the same time pressures associated with what goes in and what gets cut - you can let things run a little. I guess it's all in the content - is there a story to tell!
Hope you enjoy Ep 2 - will post that tomorrow.
Hey Marius. Happy New Year. Thanks for an amazing first installment of "Just To See How Far It Is" Ja 2020 was real crap BUT 2021 is going to be a brilliant for sure. Cant wait for the really inspirational next episode. Thanks man!!!
Thanks Derek - no pressure on nailing Ep 2 now haha. All the best to you too...thinking its going to be a tricky start but its a situation we are getting better at living with everyday!
Well done on making the best of a bad situation. Looking forward to seeing your adventures. If you ever need a fully rigged overlander, check out Bushpig Safaris in Cape Town.
Thanks Keith...think its opened my eyes to the opportunities and that exploring our beautiful country doesn't have to come at a huge cost
Still say you should've got a solar TV, just for those nights where there was nothing to do :-). But then again looking at your twitter that wasn't really an issue.
Well the idea is to build up and introduce new tech with each new adventure...but I wouldn't want a TV to be honest. If I was set up in one place for awhile, then maybe but traveling like this you want to see, hear, connect
Great video Marius 👍 & 07:47 was that the new Dmax ?
Well spotted Luyanda!!! You don't miss a thing hey....
So when and where is next adventure..
I wish I had an answer for you! Still working on it...
So this is the first post ...I discovered 13 today....
