Tbh I’m an international student studying to become a Pilot. It’s been difficult but this video gave me the reassurance that it would pay off, by God grace 🙏🏿
If you’re under the age of 20 I recommend Civil Air Patrol! I was able to switch controls with the Pilot in a Cessna plane! It was really easy to fly, and I loved it. I wished I stayed in CAP because it had amazing opportunities! I learned so much about aviation and space...it was really cool. It’s like ROTC though, so you have to be okay with the military aspect of it.
Flight simming has been a hobby of mine all my life. It has been my dream to be a pilot for as long as I can remember and I hope this video is a step in the right direction
ATP costs a little over 100k including housing. They offer loans through Sallie Mae, but you get all of your ratings in a few months. The only thing that takes time is getting your 1500 hours, and there's no shortcut for that. However, ATP offers the chance to work for them as an instructor and it gets you hours quickly
Hi Garrett. Great content! Love watching your videos. I'm currently working towards my PPL, almost done with it! I'm planning on going all the way to ATP rating. Can you do a video about the early job opportunities for low hour pilots coming out of training? Please and thank you🙏
I am epileptic and my dream was to become an airline pilot. My type of epilepsy is Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy with absence Seizures. I was about to make the big decision of going to the Aviation Medical Doctor but before that, due to a lot of stress, anxiety and anger I fainted and I told myself, due to what I heard and also what I read in the FAA that it's best for me to give up on that dream. I don't want to be that pilot that would get sick in the cockpit and end up doing the unwanted. Now I have no idea, I would have probably been a really good pilot if I went to the doctor and then take care of myself, make my life a lot less stressful, think about positive things and get enough rest. This year I will get into the medical world so I told myself 'One door closed, another one opened.' God bless all pilots and may they be healthy and enjoy flying as much as possible.
Thank you Garrett Gor this video. Always love to watch your videos. Btw my flight training will be starting mid of next year. Hopefully one day you will be my Captain. Happy Holidays 🎄
Awesome vid, as always, Garrett! I'm wondering how quickly you were able to go from IOE to captain training at your airline. Does it fluctuate between airlines or can you expect a set amount of hours or years flown?
Hi Jacob! (same name pretty cool) Just here to help answer your question. For most airlines it is quite different, and mainly comes down to yourself. It can take as little as 5 years, all the way to 15. There are a ton of variables such as available slots, your own performance, prior flight experience and much more! You will probably not be able to know this until you actually become a captain. Hope this helps!
The biggest advice I give anyone willing to listen, is like Garrett, have other ventures besides flying that you can learn on during the every 10 year crisis that the industry WILL be hit with.
I just started ground school online (due to covid) and got some flight lessons for Christmas!! I'm currently a flight attendant and love it but can't wait to become a pilot!!
I want to let you know. If you are a pilot with an ATP rating and over the age of 40 and you have a guy who is 24 years old who has 1500 hours total time, the airlines will hire the 24 year old over the 40 year old. I always wanted to be a line holder but never got to achieve that.
dude, i just love your point on keeping your heart healthy while being a pilot, I am literally months away from starting my Aviation diploma and I need to get my weight to 100KG from 116KG and am struggling at the moment to do this, but I keep trying, do you have any tips to get fitness motivated?
As a 3rd year mechanical engineer, I make 81k. If I quit my job now and start training, how long before I make at least 110k? I'm trying to decide if this should be my career or my hobby. I LOVE FLYING!
I have a question so after high school how many years did it take you to become a airline pilot and what was the Journey please let me know I’m interested thx
Every country at person are very different when it comes to the pay of becoming a pilot. In most countries it is around 90k USD. That is an extreme estimate to the cost, so take it with a grain of salt. It really comes down to how fast you can get past your own flight training and the specific area and path you go down. It would be best to do some research on this as it is quiet a complex topic and is different for everyone. Hope this helps!
Love your positivity. I have always wanted to be a Pilot since I was a little boy lol. I currently work on the railway in the UK and I am considering a career change. I am 29 years old now and I did see a video where someone said that after around 31 Airlines are unlikely to hire you which has made me feel abit disheartened. What's your view on this? :-) thank you for your videos.
While airlines do tend to prefer younger pilots(sometimes!) don't let that get you down! If you're physically fit and mentally capable, you might actually be a better pick because you have more life experience than somebody who's 21, for example : )
Steven Orchard - For example, if you look at the EasyJet pilot training program, the company says: "at least 18 at the start of your course, and there's no upper age limit." About a year ago one pilot started his career there when he was 47 years old.
Hey Garrett! I’m currently training to become a pilot and in the future I want ti have a dog so I just wanted to know what do you do with your dog when you are out on a trip?
I'm in Buffalo NY working on my ppl. Struggling between the weather and studying on my own. Can you advise me on things I can do to make my see job come true?
Hey! Love this content and you really inspire me! I’m a freshman in HS and just had my first discovery flight in October and loved it. I’m most likely getting my PPL before I graduate and wondering if there’s is anything else I should complete?
At age 43 would you suggest I become a pilot ? Also I do have a medical condition that I have to be on meds for the rest of my life. I was told by the FAA that I would be ok to fly. I was thinking of doing part 61 since I don’t want to quite my job right away and my meds are expensive.
Ok so i just want to rant for a sec here i have horrible astigmatism and my doctor isn’t really suggesting that i fix it because there’s a risk that the surgery goes in a wrong way and make my vision bad in the dark(?) also my eyes is “lazy” which is something in the nerves that doesn’t work right and it isn’t fixable so even if the surgery goes smoothly this will make the major airlines reject me, with all of that said i will never lose my dream to fly and no matter what i will find a way, actually that’s what my doctor said, that this all depends on me if i give up it will be over if not it’s possible
Hey sara! Just read your comment and wanted to give you some advice! You should always see your nearest aviation doctor, as i have heard stories of people getting their class 1 medical, but with a lot of exceptions, for example they can only fly with other pilots on deck or during the day. There is a chance of you still being able to get your medical. Plus, even if you unfortunately cant get your medical, there are tons of other aviation jobs out there that can get you up close and personal with beautiful machines. Just because you cant be a pilot doesn't mean you are losing out on aviation. Keep it up! Hope this helps!
It is not a requirement, but having a degree from a college/uni is a huge plus in when applying to the airlines. The only requirement is a high school diploma. Each airline has their own little requirements so this may not apply to 1 or 2 airlines, but for most this is true. Hope this helps!
@@dixieandlizzie It really depends on what path you choose. If you choose to go to uni/college then it will usually be around 4 years plus flight training and gaining hours. You should research what path you want to go to and see from there. Hope this helps!

I'm not really worried about COVID because the economy always goes up after it goes down, but I'm really worried if a pilots job might become automated, and they might lose their job. The Industry is expected to be on a dow for the next 4 years. In addition, Airlines quit the contracts with their employees, for example, Lufthansa is quitting ca 30,000.
