I saw the green "flash" at sunset here in Zeeland, Netherlands. But it was more that the last parts of the sun got from red to yellow, a pale white and the last part was green. I thought this was some kind of fairytale from POTC until I saw it with my own eyes.
Kinda funny to think that these movies where made just a cash grab on a theme park ride. But enough care was put into them to make them a beloved franchise with a whole ass lore to them.
I have seen the real green flash in the Florida Keys. It is "very" bright and I believe it is when all the things align: the sun shine through the water (like light through a prism) and the green flash shoots out to be visible to the human eye.
The green flash was how Davy Jones traveled from the afterlife to the living. Barbosa was understood the rarity. Barbosa was only dead and by chance in need he was brought back. It is easy to die but it’s harder to come back from the dead. The map is the way finder to being sure that they can get back after freeing Jack.
