    I've been following Rob for a couple of years now and I can tell for sure he never ceases to impress me. Attitude, chops, approach, technicality, efficiency - you got it all, man. You make me get to the drums and make it fun. Huge inspiration

    56 yrs. of playing, you're teaching an old dog, old tricks. That's a good thing!!!! Dusting off the lick library, and reincorporating those so very easy, and dynamic "passages"!
    It's like, "...oh yeah! Forgot about that one!"
    Flams and diddles!!! A key to head turning drumming.
    Thanks.

    My 9-year-old daughter is benefiting tremendously from these basic tips that allow her to have FUN on the drums. After a year of one-on-one lessons -- learning dozens of beats (w/o fills!) along with relentless emphasis on rudiments & metronome play (not songs!) -- she was about to quit. Mr. Brown's basic fill & flam tips, in particular, have helped keep her playing.
    I understand the importance of reading music, rudiments, and keeping tempo, but what good does all that do if your kid becomes miserable and quits before they even know what it means to PLAY? I wish I could find a teacher more like this guy in my area.

    • @artband2157
      @artband2157 2 роки тому +1

      alot of teachers across instruments are like that. give her some headphones and encourage her to play along with some songs she likes, not even thinking about how it sounds, separate that time from the rudiments and it should stay fun and engaging

    I had my 72nd birthday celebration at my gig last night. I incorporated a lot of your stuff in my fills and solos including the flams. When the gig was over I felt like I was 62yrs old again!😅😂

      I really like your videos -- best ones I have seen on the web about drumming. I think that's because you talk about the music, not just technique. And here is the great thing about flams. I am a minimalist drummer. My favorite fills are ones that support the music and don't overfill the space. Flams like the ones you played in the video are great because they have texture and the elegance of simplicity at the same time. When I play a spare kind of fill like that, my bandmates all nod and smile. Whereas a lot of the more difficult and busy fills don't get that reaction. Also -- my secret weapon -- quarter note triplets. Gets 'em every time and so easy. Use sparingly, of course.

    Rob, brother. Buddy. Friend. Yo. So there is this exercise by Carter McLean (Fantastic drummber btw.) He does the exercise with matched grip, but I really only play traditional grip. Coould it be possible for you to help out us traditional grip players with the accenting on this? It's a triplet accent exercise with every 5th note being accented; Rll rlL rll rLl (rinse and repeat.)
    (What I need help with is how to physically keep my ghosts low and my accents high. It goes between the 2nd note of a diddle being the accent and the 1st note of the diddle. Even though it's technically not a diddle it's basically a diddle.)
    (This is a repost I placed on your last video earlier today.)

    I really enjoy your videos, but I have to admit I cringe when I see how you hold your sticks. :-) When I learned to play a LOOONG time ago, my instructor taught me to hold the sticks just off center so there is weight behind the hand to help with rebound.... I've tried holding them the way you do just to see if there was something I was missing.... nope, can't do it, the sticks feel to heavy on the front and I can't get the rebound that I'm used to... Great videos, I always enjoy watching...
