Hello, I think your show is great, learning alot about CKD. I have CKD at stage 3A. GFR 60. Have a question about what to eat. I just brought this book called "Learn the Facts about Kidney Diseas by Dr. Steven Roasansky, M.D." In the book there's a chapter on high potassium foods such as for fruits, " apricots, bananas, contaloupe, dried fruit, honeydew mellon, kiwi, mango, nectarines, oranges, papaya, pomegrante, prunes, pumpkin, and raisins. For vegetables there are bake beans, beets broccoli, brussel sprouts, fried onions, lentils, okra, parsnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce. So what in the world are we to eat?
This umbrella review, including 6 SRs with MA and 3 SRs without MA, examined the implications of HPI for kidney health. Key findings are that for daily protein ingestion above dietary recommendations, no convincing evidence could be ascertained for kidney function decline relevant relationships with urinary albumin excretion, renal GFR, and kidney stone risk. Also for the further assessed renal-related outcomes, none of the gradings of the overall certainty of evidence led to an assessment as ‘possible’ or ‘probable’ for detrimental HPI influences on kidney function.
My doctor told me I am in the beginning stages of kidney disease but it can be changed if I lose weight and get my sugars under control which I have been working very diligently on doing. I asked him to refer me to a dietitian he says why do I need a dietitian for? So I have no clue when I can eat or not eat on this vegan diet I’m supposed to be able to have rice and pasta and potatoes but they raise my blood sugar. I was told eat beans now I can’t have beans because of the kidney issue is my understanding. I am very limited on what I have to eat and I feel very alone and frustrated. There’s nobody talk to nobody he wants to help. I’ve left a comment here before and never so much is received a response from any of them to the best of my knowledge. All I hear about is what I cannot eat which is about everything if feels like. I’d like to know what can I eat that won’t raise my blood sugars and will help get that number 84 down to a 30 or below are supposed to be
Hello! We're sorry to hear that you have felt so overwhelmed and alone :/ We would definitely recommend finding and working with a dietitian on your own since your doctor won't refer you. There is a database of renal dietitians in the US that you can check out! Here is the link: sites.google.com/view/ckdrd/home
Hello, your show is great. I have a question about the foods to eat. For high potassium vegetables they are bake beans, beets, broccoli, brussels, sprouts, tried onions, lentils, okra, parsnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomato paste and sauce. Hi there. Please take a look at our potassium videos (Episodes 11 and 12). Here are the links: ua-cam.com/video/FWNIASaHeRA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/YrCK6uTL6jg/v-deo.html
I have found a good book on diet and kidney health is a book by Makeup S. kang, M.D. "The Doctor's Kidney Diets". He is associated with Southwest Kidney Institute and has been treating patients for over 20 years. the book has lists as well as menus.
Thank you for another excellent session. This is the information I was searching for regarding why microalbubinaria can be seen on a keto diet. You mentioned reintroducing carbs is difficult as it causes breaking of cells that line the blood vessels. So, how would you introduce carbs back into the diet and get off keto? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this educational video it really helps me to keep my eyes open as I am also CKD case since last 10years. I am having high PTH levels urea and cr raised. Can you help me on diet I am from 🇮🇳 Thankyou
We're happy you are finding the episodes/videos helpful! We recommend working 1:1 with a renal dietitian to help you with a diet plan that is specific to you! :)
I wish I had stumbled upon this video earlier I recently did the keto diet for a year and thought because I lost weight fast I was doing something good for myself but I ended up getting kidney stones I'm still going to the toilet non stop and got heavy bags under my eyes I am trying to reverse all the damage that has been done do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
More often than not, it's not the diet that gave you kidney stones, they were already there from the oxilates in plants. The keto diet will start the healing process and the body starts to send the stones, (that you didn't know you had), packing. It's easy to see why people would think that the diet caused the stones.
So i went on a ketodiet while plant based, i was eating so many cups of nuts everyday to up my fats and after 10 days i felt really sick, nauseous, weak, acne on face, and i started having to pee very frequently. I started eating meat again (i was vegetarian for 7 years) because i thought i just need to make it up in a lot of missing nutrients. it’s been 2 months, i feel slightly better, still have acne and need to pee very frequent
Dr. Hashmi, you reference the keto study with pkd cysts shrinking. I personally have simple renal cysts. They’re rather large and painful. Would keto shrink simple cysts?
I have low potassium and protein in urine. What is causing the low potassium. I am even drinking a mineral supplement now to keep my heart from fluttering.
There are different types of cysts that can be found on kidneys. Polycystic Kidney Disease is an inherited disease. You will want to check back in with your doctor on the results of your MRI!
Thanks for watching! We had a lot of questions on the ketogenic diet, so here are our responses to them.
