    I love your show and I want to thank both of you. The information that you give is understandable and it's helped me a hundred percent. I didn't know really what I really could eat cuz other people just kind of hit on what kidney patients are supposed to eat but you really get to the bottom of it thank you

    Tofu/tempeh or steel cut oatmeal with 1 tablespoon each of ground chia and flaxseed meal and 1 teaspoon AMLA powder, soymilk for breakfast. Soy like tofu is the #1 anti estrogen food according to Dr Kristi Funk. I’m glad many anti estrogen foods are also good for CKD. I restrict my protein to 40-45 gm & phosphorus to no more than 1000 mg. Thanks to both of you, learned so much from your videos.

    68 yo male. just received normal thyroid panel - all values mid-range (e.g TSH 2.3). Eat home-made soy yogurt daily. Off course this is just an N=1 and no recent thyroid results without soy. Rest of my diet is plant based, with weekly sardines or salmon as only animal protein. Has been for last 10 years. BTW, eGFR about 100 and creatinine about 0.7 consistently. hsCRP typically 0.3 or less.

    If I eat 1 cup of beans a day, is it better to eat 1/2 cup in the morning and the rest with lunch and/or dinner or is 1 whole cup with a meal too much? Thank you Michelle for mentioning in your last email, that boiling tempeh in hot water removes its bitterness.

      almond milk, oat milk and cashew milk are typically lower in potassium (make sure to get one that doesn't have phoshorus added)!

      I’m so grateful for your informative podcasts. My doc told me that I’m barely over the edge of being into 3rd stage kidney disease. Even though I’m 88 years old, I want to gather as much information as possible to slow the progression. The on-line discussions you two have are educating me much more thoroughly than my doc can because he’s much too busy to spend the time explaining aspects of kidney disease with me. Besides, I don’t think he's as knowledgeable or experienced j as either of you.
      THANKS for all that you do!!

    My dad is 84 & his GFR is 19 in the one kidney that functions. Last week his dietician told him to eat whatever he wants. He went straight from that appt to get a hamburger & his wife feeds him meat for lunch & dinner. They also eat at restaurants so are consuming way more salt that he has any idea of. I'm very scared this diet advice will lead to him to death sooner than later, and be far more painful than it needs to be. I called his kidney doctors office to find one thing out, and as suspected, they do not consult with any renal dietician. I'm now waiting for a call back from her so I can discuss my concerns about his health, but really I want to discuss her diet advice will kill him, and probably soon. I am prepared w/ a lot of references, like this channel, for her to look into before she utters another word about diet. What else can I do????????????????

    A lot of soy offered to consumers has been processed with toxic HEXANE. Very irresponsible to not mention this. Since consumers can't tell which soy has been processed with this risky chemical, their best option is to totally boycott all soy.

    • @M00159
      @M00159 11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for your comment. Really important to know! Do soybeans have that toxic ingredient as well?

    • @plantsonlycindy5809
      @plantsonlycindy5809 2 дні тому

      I believe you're referring to isolated soy protein which is highly processed, like the fake burgers and meats and so forth. They've made clear this isn't what they're talking about for kidney health. Sure, there's hexane in fake highly processed so-called soy foods, and in soybean oil. This doctor and his nutrition/dietician assistant are talking about tofu, tempeh, and edamame. These few items do not contain hexane, that I'm aware of, and to be on the safe side, or when in doubt, purchase organic. 😊

  • @ayokay123
    @ayokay123 10 місяців тому

    Yeah, but soy is pretty high in oxalates, so if you're prone to kidney stones, you really need to be careful.
