I saw Moon when it came out in theatres in 2009 and i loved it i was taking a film class then and literally every day before class (which was in the theatre) we saw the trailer for Moon. And i just fell in love with it. I remember turning to my wife (girlfriend at the time) and saying that we had to get tickets when Moon came out. It remains one of my favorite sci fi films. Im so glad to have an artist like Gavin designing ships for SC, like my favorite things coming together!

I saw 'Moon' without any knowledge about who made it. I loved it. I thought it was very similar in feel to 2001: A Space Odyssey and other slower-paced films I liked that let you live in the sets. The pacing felt very Kubrick to me which I liked a lot. Loved this interview!

Gav Rothery is this generation's Syd Mead - in my opinion the most talented sci-fi artist / futurist out there today. It's amazing to think that with all the opportunities available to him he still hopes he'll be able to continue working on Star Citizen even when he becomes a big-shot Hollywood director :) Thanks for the awesome interview, these interviews will be absolute gold in years to come.

Entrepreneur, and likeable character. Good storytelling too!

    • @Nine-Signs

Artist. The money was secondary. The "entrepreneurs" are the people above him who took all the money he never got, for little work themselves.

    • @TheFazz01
      @TheFazz01 2 роки тому

@@Nine-Signs Sorry my friend, we may have different definitions of what a entrepreneur is ie: an entrepreneur is someone with the foresight, drive and ambition to take a risk and solve business or consumer problems. The characteristics of an entrepreneur include but are not limited to:
      passion
, innovative, persistance, resourcefulness, risk-taking, disciplined etc.

    • @Nine-Signs
      @Nine-Signs 2 роки тому

@@TheFazz01 That description fits that of a customer service adviser also my friend.
The definitions of things are generally what is unique about them not what is shared with other descriptors. I do understand where you are coming from though and why you think that as even an official definition such as
"a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit."
is inaccurate as his/her employee's take far greater risks than the entrepreneur ever does, if his/her business folds the debt stays with the business and the boss has often taken out more than enough in dividends not to worry too much while they set up their next venture, or as often happens, the boss sits back by comparison to his workers, while those workers build up the new business over a few years and then the boss sells it to someone richer than they are, they go off into the sunset with a pocket full of cash and the workers who are left behind who did the lions share of that work, at best get nothing, at usual get a reduction in pay and/or conditions, and at worst get fired, as the smaller entity merges into giant mega transnational corp llc to whom it was sold.
For the employee, who moved their child's school on the RISK that job will last or not, who took the risk to invested in a mortgage on relatively meager pay based on the pay of that job, they all get shafted and incur massive personal debts while looking for a new job, their risks are far greater than any entrepreneur ever faces.
So don't be fooled into thinking entrepreneurs take all the risks or are some wondrous thing, they are capitalists who usually borrow other people's money to exploit often desperate masses under them who are paid a sliver of the wealth per hour that they produce, as you can clearly see from the above, he is not a capitalist, he is a sole trader, an artisan one at that, as is evident from only getting £15,000 for 22 months work creating a film that brought in £10.1 million at the box office alone, never mind dvd sales and streaming service reruns.
He is a sole trader who is not in it for money, he is in it for vocation that has gained enough reputation for his skills to be reasonably rewarded for the use of them, like Michelangelo to the pope, if the pope had paid him.
Vocation is something a capitalist "entrepreneur", will never understand the value of. They only ever understand the cost of things, while understanding the value of nothing.
And on a final wider note, on matters of ecology and climate, more capitalism is not the answer to our problems my friend,
      it is the problem.

Around the 48 min mark where they are talking about how detailed the ships are. Just wanted to tell a story.
So the first package I ever bought was the Connie package, that I treated myself to on Christmas of 2013. I'm not rich by any means, and that was a fair chunk of money for me.
Then I got to see it in the hangar module for the first time, and I thought to myself, jesus..... I ripped them off, because the $270 odd was NOTHING compared to the shear amount of detail and work that had been put into that ship.
Like, if I wanted to get a model of that quality and that level of detail, just for the kit alone I'm looking at $800+, and then I would still have to put it together!
But I can fly my Connie
And I can invite my friends to come on this ship
And we can get into all kinds of shenanigans on this ship
And when VR starts working properly for the game....
The ships in this game are works of art

Hello everyone! I am new to the star citizen community and when I say that I mean I've just become aware of SC a few days ago,I don't have an account or even a PC or rig to play SC. But I've been so impressed with what I've seen so far and especially since the new patch 3.15 drop and am set to abandon console platforms and shift entirely to PC because of this game.
As someone who is planning to spend literally thousands of dollars for SC,my question is at any point will custom paint schemes become available for purchased ships?

    • @skitsnack1

I know they mentioned that they want to have a system like that in the future that is relatively separate from the skin system, but we don't have a timeframe for it right now. They have the tier 0 system built to support it, but it's not a high priority right now

Dear Jared, (nice haircut, look'n sharp! & some weight loss! congrats)
I have a Vision that I'd like to share with you, and CIG, and CR.
For the time being we'll call it 'The Shangi-La Oasis'.
Situated on a future planet (not a moon) in one of the first 3-5 systems, formed by 2 major meteor impacts (surrounded on that continent/hemisphere by a number of others as truly massive mineral deposits of varying kinds) describing a kind of figure 8 with the top one (impact 2) being smaller than the bottom (1), and I'm talking here about truly MASSIVE scale (as an analogue for which you may look at the largest craters in our IRL solar system). These 2, standing apart from a random series of scattered impact sites across the entire hemisphere, could be surrounded by vast barren and rather desolate regions, with varying geological features, some of which are a result of the 'interruption' by the multi-meteor impacts, eons ago ie: crust upheavals and impact craters interacting with the planet's crust & natural surface features, etc. telling a story across time and history about origins, which ties all the systems together as the larger context of the world-galaxy. This ancient lore story would include of course all the manifest geological and mining/mineral features and even tracing it's origins, astronomically, to another of the 1st 100 systems, say via an ancient planetary-lunar impact cataclysm. (which also carries with it an Alien religious-cosmology re: origins by a first/last cause being... serendipitously synchronistic? and when one of their ancient philosophers proved that the anthropic principal was unscientific?
    Still with me?
So for this massive impact 1 giant crater region in the middle of a desert, first imagine it ringed by a mountain range (with tall height maps), rising from the surrounding deserts to snow capped, cloud studded and in some cases enshrouded, by various types of clouds, fogs and mists, MOUNTAINS, as if beckoning the player from afar to arrive at this destination, which is also a kind of nature preserve, or a place that, for whatever reason, you can't just jump to or spawn from, until you've traveled there by ship.. and not an easy place to get to at that (within the overall gaming context). They'd be a slightly different kind of mountain range however, being the result, not of tectonic plate movement, as on Earth, but of a 'crinkling' of the planet's crust upon crater impact (from this distant planetary collision with its moon hurtling the ancient space rocks to their final destination), denoted largely by it's ringed nature.
Within this super giant 'bowl', the scale of which to first behold, on traversing the perimeter mountain range, will take anyone's breath away, would exist the conditions, due to a variety of factors but largely to meteor impact depth and crust interaction, is beheld LIFE, in it's magnificent cornucopia of varied splendor, and including everything and anything that denotes, from flora to fauna to winged birds and other flying creatures, to a weather system (ranging across and around the whole crater), melting mountain snow into rivers and waterfalls (with rainbows), various mists, fog, and a cloud-studded blue sky (perhaps where the sky is NOT blue as seen from other regions of the planet's surface?).
Key here is the breathtaking scale of the whole circular region, where every scene and POV is a screenshot the likes of which has never been seen to date in gaming history, as the ultimate "place" in gameworld history, exploiting and squeezing everything out of every tool, now already in place for just this kind of endeavor. It would have it all, from blowing grasses to meadows, lakes, rivers, different treed areas, birds zipping around and chirping, weird mountain goat-like creatures feeding on the steppes and slopes. Unending things to see and explore and investigate & interact with ie: fishing and water sports, hiking, camping, exploring, sciencing, vacationing etc.
    You get the picture.
NOW - in crater 2, the smaller top of the figure 8, resides the pinnacle of an Alien Civilization, who's capital city is like something out of Lord of the Rings, X 1000. Bear in mind there's a LOT of wealth in the surrounding mining-mineral craters, which has all been concentrated in the great city of the _______.
While such a city could have everything and anything you can possibly imagine, except maybe FPS PVP-Pve (that happens in regions outside these protected spheres), at it's center would be a great University and place of learning and a repository of that civilization's entire knowledge base and history ie: museums and cultural sites, even "religious" cathedrals formed about the whole mythos & ancient origins of the place and regarding things like sustainability, since the figure-8 crater(s), are an entirely contained biosphere all but demanding a zero foot print to retain it's splendour and glory. So steeped in lore and ancient origin history, there would be no real "height or depth" to this place, meaning that the player would become "lost" within it's layering and tapestry of context - so that leaving it, to another part of the planet or verse, will have a powerful psychological impact as a point of sharp distinction and contrast, where some of those mining settlements are let's say, not quite a utopia, to put it mildly.
Scale, detail and a richness of Lore.
Greatest 'place' ever made in game development history. Can't really get there by ship without a somewhat perilous journey involving skill development, or unless you catch a ride surrounded by paid security, and few a few 'tussles' along the way that might have got your heart rate up. Then, at long last, the cresting of those distant mountains.... HUH?!
Exploits all the tools at hand?

P.S. The other reason for the Alien Civilization to think "because God" for it, was due to the fact that the main impact crater hit right in the middle, as if a perfect bullseye, of what was already once an atmospheric oasis of sorts on that planet, while adding the perfect geological interaction and elements that combined to give rise to the perfect circumstance of the living biome. A small group of "atheists" otoh, protested that it wasn't by the hand of a cosmic God as the first/last cause and prime mover, but an otherwise unknown creative agency as a type III or IV civilization, so because the idea of "God" is uncomfortable to them, they prefer an ancient alien, or a more ancient alien intervention, explanation, the only problem being the destruction that was caused when ____ planet and it's own ancient civilization was destroyed when it's moon impacted, sending the meteors to their destination, with the theists arguing back simply, that "God works in mysterious ways. Who are we to judge the inscrutable mind of God?"
