A ball or towel squeeze is a great way to start and get the fingers loosened up. It not only strengthens the muscles, but it helps stretch them out as well.
Finger tendon glides and finger taps are great exercises to improve mobility in the tendons and joints.
Finally, finger extension with or without a band will help stretch the muscles on the inside of the fingers, and strengthen the muscles on the outside.

Made my hand feel better just doing these simple exercises
Nice and concise, excellent stuff. I don't have arthritis, but after doing these excercises my hands feel really worked through in a very pleasant way. Oiled up joints kind of feeling.
Thanks!
Thanks! Dr Jo. ❤
You're welcome!
These exercises are great for me to do as hand warm-ups before practicing classical guitar and piano.I add a few more stretches, such as rotating wrists, and gently pulling the digits back one at a time with the other hand, and I’m good to go without pain. I think playing a musical instrument that requires finger dexterity is great for keeping the doctor away. And, it’s fun and interesting, too!
For the band exercise I find using a small hair band (the wrapped non-slip ones) works best. Also helps with tennis/golfers elbow. Thanks for the video DrJo!
You're welcome!
Hi Dr Jo. Great exercises. I immediately started doing them. I feel like what I ate the day before really tightens up my hands. Any thoughts on that.
Thanks ma'am..for important information
You're welcome.
Thank you! I will be incorporating these into my routine.❤
You're welcome!
Thanks Dr. Jo! My Dad squeezed a ball for years to help him, so I know it works. I use those stress balls that people hand out at events with advertising on them. Do you think a stiff ball like a tennis ball is better or is the softer stress ball that has some give to it acceptable to use?
You're welcome! The one I'm using is a stress ball 😎 Either is fine.
Thank you for this! I had pain in one finger for months, went away eventually. I knew some of these from previous therapy for wrist, but like the use of the ball and band. Have been following your channel for years, always great tips!
You're welcome, and thanks!
The finger taps seemed to help quite a bit for me that I didn't know about that worked today. Thank you.
I bought a spring loaded hand strengthener about a year ago that works like the ball that takes pain away quickly for awhile.
You're welcome.
Hey Dr joe, love your videos.. I get pain from bowling in the winter months where the pain goes from my elbow to the tips of my finger .. feels like a Charlie horse. Pinched nerve of some sort... wondering if you know of some stretches I can do to help prevent that from happening?
Thanks
Thanks! Some of my tennis/golfer's elbow videos might help. You can find all my videos on my channel: ua-cam.com/users/askdoctorjo, and you can use the search tool (the magnifying glass) under the banner on the right side to find specific videos/topics.

I have finger arthritis but (so far) only in my pinkies and usually only my right-hand pinkie, which is crooked because of the arthritis. Currently it's just this finger that's in pain. Any thoughts or suggestions for alleviating pain in just one pinkie? Or should I just do the whole-hand exercises? Thanks.
It's probably best to do the whole hand.

Bring back the old disclaimer alert it’s hilarious lol I’m a boxer I can’t tell if it’s arthritis or just hurts. But every time I land a jab it’s really hurts and it’s been 4 months now :/
