  • Pickleball knee pain is a common injury in this popular sport. Knee injuries from pickleball are increasing, but often simple stretches and exercises can help relieve and even prevent the pain. The stretches & exercises in this video will help strengthen, relieve pain, and loosen up the muscles around the knee and the hip area. Buy a worksheet with these Pickleball knee stretches & exercises: www.askdoctorjo.com/product/p...
    Starting off with stretches to loosen everything up around the knee, a calf stretch, hamstring stretch, and quad stretch will help relieve pressure on the knee joint.
    After stretching the muscles out, isometric exercises are a great way to start activating and strengthening the muscles, but not making movements that might increase the pain. Quad sets, hamstring sets, isometric hip abduction, and isometric hip adduction will help strengthen the main muscles around the knee and hip.

    ❤Three times I had some tooth decay and my knee pains disappeared after I visited my dentist, I saw similar patterns with other people, but they could not fully understand it and take the appropriated actions! By the way appropriate physical exercises are a must too, thank you so much for your tips!

    I got recommended a video of yours from 9 years ago.. the one for calf strengthening that you start with "First I'm gonna roll up my pant so you can see my chicken legs" haha! Then got curious and checked if you still make videos which brought me here..
    Happy to see you are still going strong and still having chicken legs as far as I can tell 😅.
    Jokes aside, thank you for sharing all this great advice.

      Thank you for posting these exercises. I have arthritis and sometimes the physical therapists will start you off too soon with bands without fully teaching how to stretch.

    I started playing pickleball in April 2023. I have never experienced so much pain as I have with pickleball. I lifted weights and walked every day for over 20 years, but that wasn't enough conditioning for pb. Every body part has taken a turn with pain: back, shoulder, knees, elbow, calves... I've taken way too much motrin just to sleep. 8 months later and I'm finally not in so much pain. It's a miracle that I didn't quit the sport. 😁

      It's definitely harder on the body than most people think.

    How often do you suggest we do these per week?

      It depends on what stage of recovery you are in and how your body reacts to treatment, but in general, therapeutic exercises can be done 1-3 times a day, every day.

    I had meniscus surgery 9 months ago, knee is still swollen, got a cortisone shot, no relief. any advice?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 місяців тому

      Did you go to physical therapy after your surgery? Even if you did, it might be worth trying again if you are not feeling any better.
