How do I know whether my Hand pains are Rheumatoid Arthritis?

- A common question I get from patients as well as from referring physicians and colleagues is when should you consider that somebody's hand pains may be the sign of rheumatoid arthritis. I discuss my approach in this video.

Well explained
I think this is my solution because I confused my pain thank you so much your beautiful gold Advice
When you wake up and it feels like you have broken bones overnight get bloodwork done
More importantly, see a qualified board certified rheumatologist who should be able to evaluate and determine whether you have an inflammatory or instability source for the the cause of your pain. Bloodwork is only a piece of the puzzle.
Sorry to hear that. If your symptoms do not resolve, make sure you get evaluated.
How do you get to the rheumatologist when the GP insists that it’s nothing serious and is failing to hear that it is great pain that is hindering my activities to do daily activities?

Can u elaborate with that? I have pain but it feels muscular over bone pain. Like a deep pain in my legs and stuff, but I've noticed my fingers have been getting painful but I play guitar alot

Thank you so much for this! I think I’m getting rheumatoid brought on by menopause. This concise way of diagnosing is very helpful.

I have this bought that sprung up this year since I had my full hysterectomy. I've always had pain but I was told I was too young for arthritis and I just needed rest . Now I had the surgery and I swear it feels I can't walk in the morning and even in the evening. My joints in my hands have swelled and not gone down. I set up an appt with my Dr this morning since I feel so bad
@jenjam021327 I am sorry to hear that. I hope you can be evaluated by a rheumatologist to assist in making your diagnosis.
Thank you. I have a pain above my knuckle at my middle finger. This is this is a soft place above the knuckle before reaching my middle finger. I don’t know if I describe that right. Just hurting in the strange area to me. It’s a very sensitive area.
In my 3 rd year of RA , on Rynvoc , have been doing water aerobics at a club , now have a swim spa and workout at home .
That’s great to hear. Exercise is a key aspect of managing RA long term.
Blood work confirmed RA.
The pain in hands-painful to touch fingers felt like burning sensation. Swollen fingers and unable to fully open hand.
Toes also swollen and painful.
I have osteoporosis in knees and hips as well.
I enjoyed your presentation.
May I know if you consume dairy on a daily basis?
I hope it doesn't deprive you from enjoying Life, pain can be all consuming. I wish you the best of the best.
At least I learnt something from you. Thank you sir.

Nice and succinct. Well done. Though you didn't get to the treatment or regenerative part that is your specialalty. I hope a video on it is coming . I have had most of these checked as my mother had RA and I have kept a close watch. One hand has classic nodules but as you describe wear and tear is responsible. My sport doc thought arthritis but I rarely have pain and when I do it is quickly alleviated with increasing blood flow and circulation with a 100% angora hand/wrist warmer. Also no inflammation on blood tests. However, what I am more concerned about now is knee degeneration from over use, and back and neck trouble from whiplash . I am getting relief from a combo of Boron mineral and Cetylated fatty acid supplement Celadrin (apparently an Arthritis doc in Bestheda Maryland discovered a gene in mice that do not get arthritis and isolated it in a lab and created a version of CMO or a CFA -- it works ) ! (With Mag and Vit D ) This is keeping me upright and on my feet . But still hoping for a regenerative treatment with stems cells! So hoping you do a video on this .
Okay, so I’ve been scouring the internet for some type of diagnosis for my right knee / left big toe pain. I get strain type soreness (not pain, important to note) in my upper back. I’m seeing a PT. Doing stretches and seeing results. Your video has finally convinced me I do not have RA. I think sometimes our minds get away from us, especially Millennials. We’ve been told we’re sick or damaged by pop media our whole lives. Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate your help in understanding the difference between plain old age and bad body mechanics and RA.
Just one for & one knee could be gout.
Thank you for this video. I have just been referred to a Rheumatologist, in the UK. I have costochondritis that has never fully gone away since 2019, mild scoliosis, and now severe thoracic spine pain (I can press the exact vertebra that hurts- yer nothing clear on MRI but 2 mild disc bulges, signs of degeneration. I had an abnormal MRI of the lumbar spine in 2007. Back injury 2020 I fractured my tailbone. I have gradually declined since this point. The pain is so bad I cant see a way out and im only 42! Docs not linking symptoms together. I have had ganglion cysts, swelling of hands, back and burning sensations like being scalded. Pain worse in morning and takes hours for the stiffness to go, if i do anything I am on my back, ive been like this nearly 4 months now!:-( Advice much appreciated.
Your rheumatologist needs to decide whether you have significant inflammatory arthritis, or whether this is primarily degenerative and instability related. If there’s objective evidence of inflammatory arthritis, then treatment with immunosuppressants is appropriate. If there’s not inflammatory arthritis, and the issues are primarily degenerative/trauma/instability related, Then regenerative medicine is the right approach.
I hope you get some answers and relief soon.
Have you gotten any answers I'm in uk also and practically going through the same thing.
Diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2019 which I've never thought symptoms added up. Burning joint pains shoulders hips knees and now tailbone. Back to rheumatologist in dec still fibromyalgia 🙄 chiropractor in July says scoliosis. Lots of digestive issues also gp refusing to put 2 and 2 together. Would love to know what part of the uk you're in?
I just wanted to say I’m extremely similar to you. I have no answers and sorry anyone else is going through this too.
I have weird swelling below my knuckle (in between my knuckles) but lower not on them on the top of my hand not the knuckles in my fingers. No one knows what it is or what is causing it.
what can be the reason to rule out eRA based on endocr
ino hormone related etiology for pain? can you please explain this how would or which hormoens would be the culprit of RA? thank youy !
👍Great, helpful and educational video as i was wondering about pain in my hands/finger joints , all of a sudden upon waking up in the morning.
My husband had trigger finger and I thought I was going to get the same, as days pass, the left ring finger seems to click but not yet fall/click down and get stuck . The question was about "pain" . In his trigger finger there is no pain he says, but in arthritis there is pain -- is that true as trigger finger seems to hurt especially when one tries to snap back the finger in its proper position .
This video on who to see for joint pain and the best testing (ultrasound) was most helpful.
Trigger finger does not always hurt. But when it does it's generally because the ligament holding the flexor tendon in place is compressing the tendon.
Thank you Doctor for the information... I felt pain in my wrist when I woke up the other morning..then this morning I have achy itchy fingers..inside.
But they are not swollen... maybe the result of overworked hands ... (I am a cook)
How r u doing now?
Thank you for the info. Just turned 37, 6 months ago started waking up to fingers and toes blue and swollen. After 30 min would go away. I was a fairly active person so I didnt think to much about it. As time went on the swelling got worse and started to last longer. Decided to talk with my PCP. Got blood test done, rheumatoid factor, (auto immune) my mother has had crohn's disease since she was 17. All blood work came back normal, except my Vit D. Currently taking a low dose of meloxicam for pain as I wait to have EMG. Both hands stay swollen 24/7. When doing the smallest task, doing dishes, going for a walk with my dog, it triggers horrible throbbing and swelling in hands and feet. Morning do tend to be worse, I have to use my palms to carry and drink hot tea, as well as my teeth most days to just open toothpaste cap. Exhausted, most days the smallest activity wipes me out. Sometimes fighting to keep eyes open even though I am not sleeping well at all from pain of throbbing. Pain has moved to other areas, wrist, above elbow, inner thighs. It is getting worse so fast. Only 3 rheumatoid doctors where I am from all of which are booked up for months and I have not got a referral yet even though hands and feet were very swollen, (feet blue) when I seen my doc, as well as showed her 4 months of almost daily pics of progression of feet and hands. Im thankful a year ago I started to work from home, but even to get to my office from bedroom can be so hard most days. Am I on the right track by seeing a neurologist for a EMG? I wish I could just get referral to a rheumatologist. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.
Definitely see a rheumatologist. With telemedicine, making an appointment with many other doctors is easy and possible. There is no need to suffer and wait for your appointment.
@@ChicagoArthritis Wow! Did not expect a response, so again Thank you!! Would I be able to get a referral from a telemedicine doctor, even if my blood work came back normal? That seems to be the problem with my PCP. They wont accept me, because of limited availability, even though she has told me I need to see a specialist. I know meeting with a doctor online they would be able to see my symptoms on hands and feet.
@@somehacker504 Have you had Covid? I started experiencing similar problems with my hands and arms after Covid and was diagnosed with Long Covid and I am currently being tested for RA. I've been suffering with this almost 3yrs. Mine is accompanied by migraines and a whole list..

Been checked for RA for 2 decades and never had the inflammation markers. My mom has RA. My hands have been crippled since I was in my 40’s. I’m 53 now and the pain in both hands is unbearable constantly and my finger joints are like hard marbles.
I have pain in the finger joint pain mainly my first three digits and little in the thumb, not noticeable in pinkies. Pain started about four weeks ago upon waking up. Gets better with movement and massage. Nothing in feet or knees.
If it’s not improving, please get evaluated by a Rheumatologist.

Question... When I make a fist and point with my index finger, I feel a painful "resistance" as if something is blocking my finger from lifting all the way up. This sharp pain spreads across my knuckles and joints of the other fingers and down the middle of my palm. As if stretching one finger affects the rest of the hand. The same pain is present in my middle fingers when I pull up pants and socks, open a door, ect. Like a sharp shooting pain that only exists when I stretch my fingers in a certain way. Is this a characteristic of RA pain? I always thought it was tendon-related due to overuse, or possibly nerves, but I've been referred to get tested for RA.
It could be RA. A good exam and musculoskeletal ultrasound by a experienced physician can help to discern which structures are affected, and whether this is inflammatory in nature, or primarily instability/degenerative.
Yes my knuckle actually looks bruised -hashimoto issue with flare up
Sorry to hear that.
Hopefully treatment of your hashimotos corrects the hand problem.
Hi Doctor, my joints ache has been bugging me for months and now I have chronic sleep problem because I can't sleep due to joints discomfort in the fingers, feet, elbows, hips and knees. It is not that painful but it feel aching and it's enough to ruin my life. Almost all the doctors that I went to never take it seriously and asked me to just relax and ruled it out as anxiety. There's no low grade fever involved as long I can remember but I can feel a 'creeping' discomfort in my joints, occasional weakness and deep anxiety. There's no swelling and redness so far but the ache is quite persistent throughout the day but I always wake up with good/normal feeling in the morning if I can get enough sleep. My joints also are easily injured/aching even by wrong sleeping position or by doing some physical works and would take months to heal. So is this another hidden/very early symptom of Rheumatoid Arthritis or it's unlikely and actually caused by other condition such as Hypothyroidism or other disease?
It’s possible. Your physicians should be able to give you a specific diagnosis. If not, you may need to see someone with the appropriate expertise.
How are u now what was your diagnosis plz reply
I have pain in my index finger, second knuckle from top. I usually stiffens up at night and I "work it loose" in the morning or sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night. There is pain also, bit it passes after a small while.
Worthwhile getting this checked out appropriately by a rheumatologist.
@@ChicagoArthritis same here. Thanks so much!
Me, too! I was wondering if it could be the way I was holding my phone. 🤔
Hi did you get a proper diagnosis for that?
I have pain in my nerves musles and bones , my hands flare up and other parts of my body where its hard to move , im low on vitd and iron im also premipause in menopause too , my periods are irregular, i have this warm burning sensation on my body , i have been prescribed gabapentin for the pain , im 40 years old , i try to stay active though but not to much assertion, my hormones too are all over the place , ra and arthritis runs in my family
Thank you for the explanation as to what it is but why does RA attack its own joints? Why on earth would this happen. Thank you
I went out with a friend, who told me that my arms was swollen at first I thought it was fat, but as time went on I realized that the swollen face wasnt the only symptoms I saw. The ankles feet and legs got swollen. But with the help of Dr Iyhere everyth
Hey doc I’ve been waking up with my hands asleep the last three weeks and for about four months my hands and joints in my hand feel tight but I have been weight training nearly everyday which is new in the last six months. What do you Also thanks for the info
A clinical evaluation is needed. Then possibly diagnostic ultrasound and EMG studies to determine your diagnosis.
Thanks for simple and clear video .Can you make simple video for test recommend in this video with result s needed .
Thank you for the message. Good idea re topic to discuss. We will work on it.
I have pain after use and have been having it in my hands and sometimes swelling. They ruled out lupus and Lyme disease. They said it was RA based on labs because there was inflammation in my blood but I don’t know if I should seek a second opinion
It can’t hurt to get a second opinion.
If it is RA, make sure to not wait too long before starting treatment.
Yes. But my doc says it’s anxiety. 😒
Yup...or just in my head! RA factors did NOT show in blood work, but every day I seem to find something new...a nodule, new pain, swelling, pain but no swelling...❤😔
@@Eowyn3Pride when a doc can’t evaluate your symptoms they always say “it’s in your head”
I have weakness of my grip and a deep pain in my finger joints to the point they hurt just in resting and stiffness moving them pro dominantly in my left hand I haven’t noticed any swelling , also have pain in my both wrist if I try a push up. Any advice Dr?
I think he would recommend getting it checked by a RA professional, based on his other answers in the comments and what you’re describing
Especially if it is worse in the morning and gets better during the day
Evaluation by a Rheumatologist utilizing ultrasound to visualize the affected joints is strongly recommended.
I have all these issues but RA was ruled out. But very bad arthritis in hands and fingers and wrists. I was told be a professor of Rheumatology there is no such test for RA. This really confused me as I thought it would show up in blood tests. I can’t find anything that helps. And lie awake sometimes in pain at night.
There isn’t one test that rules in or out RA. But if you have active inflammation in the hands on exam or ultrasound, that is fairly specific for RA.
Gabapentin works ,
Hello, I have been diagnosed with seronegative RA .
The constant pain is in my right hand and fingers.
I have aches in my left when i work with no support under my elbows.
my pain seems to be better at rest . If i do anything using my hands i'll regret it for a week .
I did both US and MRI , no inflammation but showed a traumatic injury along with synovial hypertrophy.
Every blood test is negative and no family history of autoimmune conditions .
I could be worse at any time of the day but my RA still put me on a 4 months trial of MTX .
I don't feel like i have RA ( no tiredness at all ) and i feel like a pulling in my muscles .
how should i proceed.
Sounds like you need a formal second opinion. If your objective findings are not consistent with RA, you may have a different condition causing your pains.
I had thyroid’s removed 1997 in the military. I’ve developed rheumatoid arthritis a year ago. Are both conditions related?
Probably not. However it’s not uncommon for people to have multiple autoimmune conditions throughout their lifetime.
I’ve had long Covid shortness of breath for 3 years! A couple weeks ago I came home from work and my ankles were swollen with fluid with lumps in front of them. After elevation they went down. Then my knees began killing me, then elbows and my hands are hurting all day and all night at rest and during activity! I had an RA factor of 14 and see rate and ESR good. I’m scared any suggestions? Thank you very informative video.. ❤
I have all the classic symptoms in my right hand, however, it is not equal to that of my left hand which has some pain but much less significant. the right hand fingers are slightly fatter than the left hand fingers but there is no swelling in the joint areas. The pain is sharp and severe only when I have direct contact by pressing hard on the joint, especially the joint where the fingers start. This has been going on for several months with no change. It started very suddenly after being mildly sick for more two weeks. I have to assume the catalyst was viral but that's just an uneducated guess.
Every single morning I have to physically bend/curl my right hand fingers (using my left hand) one by one to subside the stiffness... and it's a 10-15 minute process. If I curl the fingers too quickly they get stuck in that position. Then I force all four fingers to make a fist by pushing them against a surface. This part is painless but the fingers are still very resistant when they all curl up at the same time. This is finally followed up by squeezing a stress ball in various ways. By the n I'm able to use my right hand without pain. It sucks that this is a the new reality in my days ahead as I've been blessed not to have any chronic health conditions all my life. I hope there is a treatment that works down the road, I need to be able to use my right hand to make a living and to enjoy recreational activities. I can't imagine what it will be like with non-functional fingers.

Can RA happen even in just one knuckle on that hand ? I notice it's swollen , stiff and painful in the morning. It's been going on months now. Simply curious I know you can't diagnose on here 😅
Yes definitely.
See a Rheumatologist. Get an ultrasound of the hand done. And figure out whether you have inflammation in the joint.
Past 2wks started having thumb pain its in the base joint and in the tendon as far as 3ins from wrist. Slightly swollen any ideas what this is?
It’s difficult to make a diagnosis without a proper evaluation. But your pains could be inflammatory arthritis or instability causing osteoarthritis and tendinitis.
I have no pain or swelling or any symptoms but i have fingers that are not straight or fairly larger in joints and hyper-mobile in pip joints is this sign of Ra ? Please answer me i’m so scared rn
Not necessarily RA. Could be degenerative arthritis.
Im having ra systems dr did blood work CRP was 17.1.. sed rate is also high ck level low could this be ra? Also have swelling pain between the same knuckles on both hands please respond back ty i do see RA DR SOON
Wish you the best. Hopefully your physician can assist in controlling your condition.
Hey doc i used to have this pain in my bones (especially joints) without swelling almost 3 months ago. I visited a doctor and he said i might have arthritis (i am 18) , but he just prescribed me some vit D and calcium tablets. And surprisingly in just a span of 1 week the pain vanished. I have no swelling or stiffness. But i am getting those psin again past a few days. Can you please explain?
A classic symptom of low vitamin d is generalized pain. Glad to hear that was corrected and your pain has improved.
If your pain is returning, re evaluation is necessary to determine if there are any other issues.
Try carnivore or the Lion diet for two months.
I’m 26. I have significant pain in my left wrist with reduced range of motion but no swelling or warmth. I’ve seen one rheumatologist who told me it’s just arthralgia related to psoriasis. I do have a ganglion cyst in my left wrist but nobody wants to aspirate it. I’ve had the pain almost everyday for the last few months and it wakes me up at night. I’ve tried a splint, NSAIDS, stretches etc but nothing is working.
I also have intermittent knee pain, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, IBS, dry eyes, psoriasis, dermagraphism and hyper mobility. I’ve had an X-ray of my wrist which has come back as normal. Any suggestions?
Inflammation in the wrist resulting in a ganglion cyst in someone that has psoriasis could be psoriatic arthritis.
You may benefit from a second opinion from another rheumatologist.
Try to change your diet and life style and notice the diffrance
Gut health is related to so many disorders in the body
Carnivore diet!
I’m 25 and have the exact same symptoms but don’t have a cyst
I woke up and my right ring finger felt weird because it is swollen. And now its evening I think it became worse. My joint does not hurt and if i pinch it, it slightly hurts 😭😭
I have involuntary painful movements in my fingers and toes, wondering if this is a symptom of arthritis?
Possibly.
Evaluation by a rheumatologist and ultrasound examination would be very helpful in your case.

Hi there, I have had pain in my hands for about 4/5 weeks. My mother has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I also have had some pain in my shoulders and elbows, but not all the time. I only feel pain when I am using my body. I work with my hands and do weights a lot , but when the pain comes it is usually on both sides. It is not worse in the mornings and it is worse with use. There is one swelling on me right hand middle finger knuckle that has been there for weeks. I'm totally confused about what I have because I have some of the symptoms and some I don't. The pain also is not unbearable, more of an annoyance and inconvenience than debilitating. Any one provide any clarity?

Hi ,

@@Babujack360 yes, the pain in my shoulders and elbows was due to going to the gym too much and I fixed it by going to physio. The pain on my hands has gone away by itself, there is sometimes some pain in one finger only but it is very mild
This pain took months to disappear. I work woth my hands and when the pain came I was doing lots of work, I tried to rest my hands as much as possible and I think this helped. I also think the way I was holding my fingers when using my mobile phone was contributing to the problem.
My ra was 14 i have arthritis in my left hip ...i think i have ra just not showing yet. But he's sending me for therapy i don't think i have osteoarthritis i have swelling and pain. Will xray show it in my hand?
X-rays do not show inflammation. For peripheral joints, ultrasound is a great study to evaluate for inflammation.
3 blood tests in a week confirmed my ra, had to get fluid drawn from my knee about 600 ml to be precise, we are giving the doctors one more chance since they keep asking for random diagnostics like bone marrow aspiration and biopsy that arent needed at all, its so annoying because they started prednisolone treatment only after we denied the bone marrow aspiration and biopsy
Sorry to hear about the difficulty you’re experiencing.

Is it possible that if I have pain in three fingers as soon as I wake up but leaves minutes after I wake that it could be something else?
Yes. Get checked out, always look for objective evidence of what is causing your pain. Ultrasound is a great imaging modality to evaluate hand pain.

I have severe hand joint pain from severe days but my X-ray report came normal does it mean I don’t have rheumatoid arthritis?
Not necessarily. Ultrasound looks for inflammation. X-rays show bone damage which occurs later in RA, not at an early stage.

I have signs of both OA and RA but bloods and scans and xray are fine
Ultrasound or MRI can help confirm or deny the presence of active inflammation in your affected joint.

We normally check an ultrasound of the hand to make sure there is no inflammation as well.
Can you have RA without labs confirming it?
Yes. 50% of people with early RA are antibody negative. Long term 25% are antibody negative.
Can simply having thyroid disfunction cause joint pain?
Yes it can
What test to go for???
Labs, exam, and ultrasound
One finger is swelling and i feel warmth one day. Is it RA?
Possibly. See a Rheumatologist and have them evaluate.
My right index finger knuckle (farthest from finger tip) has been enlarged for a few years and seems to flair up with slight warmth and pain when touched. Same knuckle on my left hand started doing it a few months ago. It isn't as big yet. My Chiropractor recommend Arnica Gel or Cream. I put it on and it reduces the size and takes almost all the pain away. I am about to do a Liver & Gallbladder cleans and I have made changes to my diet, so I hope to soon reverse this issue. Good luck.
I’m only 18 and i have like a burning pain in my hands and in the base of my thumbs idk if it’s arthritis. I’m scared when i see some hands of people deform :( how can i prevent this?
You could have a number of different things. Get evaluated by a physician who is an expert in musculoskeletal conditions to get some answers.
Gabapentin works with that
I have pain in wrist or thumb finger or elbow or shoulder on both sides of a body...pain gets one one time on one one part of a body...I don't any medcine ..pain will go off totally in 3 days....please may I know what is this??
Impossible to say just over the internet.
Get evaluated by a Rheumatologist, have an ultrasound evaluation of the joints done. Then you will be able to more clearly determine a diagnosis.
How are you now? I have the same symptoms
Gabapentin works
You mentioned thyroid numbers being off…can thyroid issues cause inflammation and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis?
Thyroid problems do not cause inflammation, but they can cause pain.
@@ChicagoArthritis can low thryoid and thryoid issues cause arthritis?
yep
Hypothyroidism can cause pain, not arthritis.
How can I get a test for that
Labs and ultrasound can be ordered by your physician. Interpretation should be done by a Rheumatologist.
Which physician to consult for osteoarthritis? Is it Rheumatologist or orthopedics? Hospital put my friend (stage 2 OA) to the orthopedic doctor.
Pain, numbness and electrical firing in my hands but no swelling ?
Get checked out for a neurologic cause for your pain.
Gabapentin works with that too
My test blood ACCP..positif..but RF negetif, uric acid higher..how doctor?
You may have a risk of developing Rheumatoid arthritis per your labs. Get evaluated by a rheumatologist to see if you have active joint inflammation that requires treatment.
plz help me my sister is suffering from rhemotied arthritis her whole joints muscles nervers all are effected we try all medications and also treated her with stem cell but her pain is very high and not undercontrol....

I'm not telling you what to do cause I'm not a doctor. But I've heard from a few people that taking colloidal gold has been helpful for them. Look it up.
Definitely get evaluated by a Rheumatologist. A second opinion can be very helpful if her condition is not improving.

My five fingers on my right hand hurt an numbs up whenever I'm writing, or doing anything
Sorry to hear that.
Determine whether your pains are nerve, joint, or tendon related. Then that should direct treatment approach
when there is no inflammation then what's the problem but finger joint pain ??
Could be osteoarthritis, tendon/ligament injury, instability, nerve related issue, or a systemic problem.

Sorry to hear about your pain. Without formally evaluating you and your prior testing it is not possible to give you a specific diagnosis.
I am feeling the same thing. It started 20 days ago my pain is weird it comes for 5-10 secs and goes away on it’s own. It’s in my joints rib bones my tests were all negative and there is no swelling for RA so doctor gave me Vitamin D and calcium meds
@@shenainmalik9426 hi, i have similar symptoms to you and im not sure yet of what i have going on either. My pains come and go for a few seconds and dont have any morning pain.
Informative but would like to have heard common treatment plans
While we reserve specifics for individual patients, we will create some videos on how we approach treating common ailments.
Thank you for the suggestion.

I have pain in my joints fingers wrists toes and rib bones it’s like a wave of pain it comes for 5-10 secs and then goes away on it’s own. I thought of RA so I got my ESR and anti CCP tests which came out to be negative. So I went to an orthopedic he checked my joints to see if there was any swelling or not but there was not so he asked me about my Vitamin D levels I told him it was 28 so he gave me calcium and Vitamin D pills for 3 months and said it was just that. But my vitamin D levels have been dropped down till 5 too I never felt such pain in my joints and all the tests are negative but I am still so scared. How does RA pain feel like? Does it feel like exactly like I am saying?
Definitely correct your vitamin D.
Unless you have a broken bone you’re better off being evaluated by a Rheumatologist than a Orthopedic surgeon for your issue.
Could rheumatoid arthritis affects only one side of the body for symptoms over 2 years?
Yes definitely.
Save your money and time.
CHANGE YOUR DIET.
Eliminate ALL sugars and starches (carbohydrates) and seed oils and margarine from your diet. Research and do keto and intermittent fasting - that is you ditch breakfast. After you eat "clean" for a couple of months start practicing longer (water only) fasts, starting with a day or two. YOU WILL NOT BE HUNGRY if you have eliminated the sugar and starches.
You're welcome!
Dirt, exercise, and improving your overall metabolic health are all useful when it comes to inflammatory arthritis. But the vast majority of people with rheumatoid arthritis need additional medical treatment.
In addition, delaying treatment if you have severely active inflamed joints will very likely lead to permanent damage in the joints.
Thank you that’s what I needed straight to the point. God bless

If you have RA, see a rheumatologist and start appropriate treatment.
The knuckles on my baby fingers are deformed now!
Thought he is Billy Bob Thornton lol
It's honestly inexcusable how lazy and outdated many Rheumatology offices are. Most don't offer ultrasounds and if you have seronegative Rheumatoid you might as well just give up, cause they don't take any extra steps to find out. It gets to a point where you have to basically demand them and then they finally find out your suspicions were right after 4 years later.
I'd like my 4 years of cartilage degeneration back from their negligence. I'd also like the $10,000s I paid back for wasting my time, just to have some doctor blow me off. There is really no punishment for such a failure and the patient just suffers. Honestly start recording your doctors so if they dismiss you on things that are later proven to be true you can hold them accountable.

The rheumatologist told me I am too young to have RA. I am almost 60. He said there was nothing he can do for me. Yet he told me he wanted to give me xrays of 17 different areas. Doesn't he sound like a quack that only is working for the money and not caring about helping people?
Hard to say. But RA occurs in all age groups and should not rule out that diagnosis. Consider a second opinion.
