When this came out my mom was recovering from a surgery which resulted in a stroke, she became paralyzed from the left side permanently. As a teen I would walk through fields at night screaming along to this whole album. It helped heal me, still does. There is pure emotion here, pure coddling through it's entire sound. Its going to be alright; follow the sounds and crack the sky.
I love how this song goes around full circle. It goes through 3 different segments until it reaches the one with Brent's verse, then they do Brent's again and play each segment reversed. Very clever song structure imo
@@pascalg16 I'm not saying that Tool has used that exact method, it just sounds like something Tool would do. But since you asked, 7empest is the first that comes to mind. The structure has the same vibe.
Awesome to find out that Brann has a signature 'Ghost' Cymbal named after his intense use of it on this song. The man is a legend and his drumming is absolutely essential to the sound of Mastodon.
Really they are all necessary for the sound to be correct given that 3 of the 4 are world class musicians and vocalists and Bill is a magician on guitar

Man this whole album is straight fire all the way through. Hadn't listened in several years and really I didnt appreciate this as much as I should have when it came out. What the hell was I thinking?
That's Mastodon. Someone gave me Leviathan when it came out and I was like eh that was cool. Then Blood Mountain came out and I bought it cause that's what you did back then. Didn't get it either. A couple months later I drove to Orlando FL (I'm in Miami) and it can take 3-5 hours. I listened to Blood Mountain 4 times. I went back and got everything they ever made. Many of my friends same thing. Hated them at first. Couple months later they were begging to see them live. At the time Leviathan was called one of the most important metal albums of all time because at the time it was considered to be "dying" and it was supposed to save the genre. Did it? Who knows. But it got me in to Progressive metal
I've got the instrumental version. It was my go to smoking album. Really makes you appreciate the whole album that way -- once you come back to the regular version. Try it!
Troy's vocals are so underrated, but this is one of those tracks I think people finally appreciate them. He makes this song WHOLE. I cannot get enough of this album. I lose it at 1:47.
Honestly Idk why they are underrated. When I first got into this band, he was easily my favorite singer of the bunch. Probably the most "metal" vocals out of them. Brent's voice is very unique, and Brann is nice, but man Troy just has the grit
Dude I am so happy last year I traveled to Ashbury park NJ to see this album played live in front of my face. 100% one of my top 5 favor live music experiences
This is sooo amazing. If you watch this in the right frame of mind, the album cover flashes, spins & moves. Thank you Mastodon & mushrooms filled with much magic.
Im ashamed to admit I didnt really get into Mastodon until The Hunter, but im so glad I got to see them do this tour again a few years ago in Coney Island. Its one of my favorite albums and coming out of the show after Coheed with all the fog from the sea all over the place was super sick. The guy who cracked his head open on the boardwalk stairs after the concert that the cops just left there was pretty cool too

i'm actually Karelian and i can say that there is no people here who would be 100% Karelian but everyone here has a karelian ancestor. actually i'm really curious why is this song called like this? how do people from the other side of our planet know about a small region of Russia?
@@wrgang8473 Well, this is a concept album, which tells us a story about a man who is devoid from whole body movement, and travels through astral trips, but on one of those his souls loses contact with his body, and goes to Rasputin times in Russia to get our beloved lover of the Russian Queen (pun intended) helping him to return back into his physical body. Yes, Mastodon does drugs
