Not trying to nitpick, but I always thought z lyric was "ignorant bliss, impending doom" . I could be wrong about that though. One of the greatest hard rock songs of all time! The fall back to the 4/4 feeling for the chorus is absolute genius. If comfort food was music this would be it.
I remember coming across this song on XM back when it played in the 800's on Direct TV. They had some good ass music around that time & I bought several albums because of the songs I found while listening to that rock/metal/whatever station.
Dude shit, you just unlocked memories buried real fucking deep in my mind. Hell, I still find it a little bit bizarre that Sirius and XM were once competitors.
Yes…yes they really did have some good music taste. I haven’t thought about those music channels for years…I remember it when I was fourteen, and feels so long ago.
It's a testament to how good their music truly is that I can say that I might like Colony of birchmen, Divinations and Sleeping Giant a little bit more, but not by much Oh And Siberian Divide (mostly because it features Cedric Bixler Zavala of Mars Volta fame) I can imagine seeing Mars Volta and Mastodon hanging out together and getting into some crazy antics. Personally I love my Volta a little more than Mastodon, but both groups are capable of combining psychedelic prog rock with metal and jazz among other genres. I'd love to see Volta, Mastodon and Opeth either go on tour or start a side project together. (Oh yeah has everyone heard z news that MV, Deftones and System of a down will be going on tour together?! That's an awesome line up for sure. Take it easy Pals out there

I had a moment on acid to this song. During the guitar solo. I can't explain it,I can remember it, I can't put my finger on what it meant, it's like for one fleeting moment my mind had opened up another world, another universe... I'll never forget that split second.
I like Mastodon, but they ain't Pantera, nor do they sound anything like them. Darrell as a lead guitarist put out more sound than both of these guitarists combined. I do think that the vocals of Mastodon are better than Pantera though.
FALLEN FROM GRAAAAAAAAACE CAUSE I'VE BEEN AWAY TOO LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG
That part goes so fucking hard man it gives me goosebumps and scratches the back of my brain
It's like Rush and Alice and Chains had a baby that absolutely thrashed.
This was the last song I got to sing with my best friend before she died. Thank you Mastodon for writing music as incredible as she was.
If I meet Mastodon someday I'll definitely report your comment to them!

I can't love this song enough...
Mastodon's music continuously mirrors my internal reality, much of which I have trouble vocalizing, until I read their lyrics.
That's the true beauty of lyrics, cause they can be interpreted to mean so many different ways. True subjectivity

but it is prog metal, it is not hard rock.
Can't explain how or why this band was so popular in Vegas but I'm glad it was. Probably one of the better Vegas shows I've been to! Brings me back
