That southern twang mixed with proggy goodness, it's like a drug ya didn't know you needed.
Dude lol I've been up, up for 3 days. I needed this drug and I most definitely am coming down a little easier to this masterpiece of a song.
Put a genuine smile on my face!
@@cleepatron8billion210 dude, from a fellow mastodon fan, please if your doing meth, stop man. It will only hurt you.
Blew my mind
Well said! (About the Twang ‘n Prog)
Brent’s vocals have matured so much damn..
I was really hoping for more Brent on the album. He has such a sweet deep twang.
same here bro! That was my only problem with the album tbh. Was hoping for some more “Precious Stones” type of songs. Was so dirty
They’re dank
What you meant to say is that the producers have gotten better at cleaning up his vocals.
There. I fixed that comment for you :D
Brent's tone is absolutely sick.
Sounds heavily produced to me.
@@cuylshepherdton7437 actually quite dynamic, if it was over-produced it would be fairly flat.
@@thebronzepill7892 Funny that Brent can never sound anything like this live. Like ever. If you can't hear that they have some kind of effect on his voice to make it sound better then I don't know what to tell you. Then again I'm talking about his voice, not his guitar work.
@@cuylshepherdton7437 lol every professionally recorded album has “effects” to make the voice sound better. reverb, delay, double tracking, and yes even pitch correction oftentimes. who cares? obviously they want the original recording to be the best version it can be.
@@cuylshepherdton7437it's called reverb/echo/layering. Hello metal elitist, check your ego out the door.
Brent's voice>>>> i can't stop listening to this song
It's sooooo good
I'm hooked on the entire album. I just started listening a few weeks ago. Masterpiece.
I've added some 0s to the play count.
Brent's voice, finally!! Don't get me wrong, I like them all, but his voice simply has something magical, love it so much! :)
Agreed. It’s the most interesting sounding and fits their music the best but I do like all 3. No complaints because I like when they switch it up. They can make more unique melodies with the multiple vocals.
I agree with you both. anyway, why in this new albums he sings so little?
Has Ozzy overtones
Totally agree... his voice is unique.
Love Brent and was the same with kiss, frehley starting singing and i was like that voice brents the same so distinctive and calming.
[Lyrics]
I'm out of my mind
Pictures of past lives
Trapped in a memory
In fragments of time
The way things used to be
Find a better way to get back home
Reaching for something new
That's just not there anymore 'cause you know that it's gone
You slip away to the distance
Pass a crack of light in the floor
I hear the sound of mischief
As the promising light shines some more
I paid you in fool's gold, and I don't owe you anymore
And I deserve nothing I find like a mountain of pain on the floor
Losing ground
Taken by a prophecy
Siren sounds
Calling for your sanctity
Wipe away
The blood from your face
All I see is our demise
Headed for the blackened skies
And I need more time
I still hear
The beast is breathing
Should I fall
Upon my sword?
Make sure they know
That I fought for them
Make sure they know
They know I tried
I scraped and clawed
I gave my all
Stars in the distance
Oh, how they tell a story of my life
And tell us to beware
Repeating the past
Nature is nocturnal and that is that
I spend my days underground
Covered in ash and smothered in dirt
And you know how it hurts this little clown
Pay no attention to the sound of the beast
'Cause you know it can't hurt you when you're with me
Awesome thanks!!!!
..... Would you by chance happen to have the lyrics to their #1 hit....... "Pendulous Skin?"
@@marct.hernandez9129
Pendulous Skin
Yeah
Float away
Known so low
You run away
Desolate us
Desolate all
No love is lost
You know we're weightless
Climb
Under my wing
Climb
Known so low
You run away
Desolate us
Desolate all
No love is lost
You know we're weightless
Climb
Under my wing
Climb
Known so low
You run away
Desolate us
Desolate all
Grown so slow
You run away
Desolate us
I'm sailing away
@@marct.hernandez9129 if you buy the albums, the sleeves have all the lyrics
Brent's voice is a beer, Troy's voice is a steak, and Brann's voice is mashed potatoes
I love a good dinner
This comment is remarkably profound and accurate...
You had me until mashed potatoes 😂😂😂
Don't forget Bill as the side of asparagus spears
@@jinsakai9729 I needed something smooth and creamy...maybe I should have said ice cream?
@@profile_01 I see Bill more as steamed broccoli with butter. Mmm, oo-lala.
I love that everyone gets to be themselves somewhere on this album. I want to feel this way with some people.
Wanna know a secret? If you be yourself then eventually you will push away all the naysayers and you will eventually find people that respect you for who you really are. You attract what you are, so be what you love. It's a law of the universe bro. You create it all.
@@brandoncallaway8835 I’ve gotten fairly popular by just being myself. Thanks for the tip for anyone who feels like they aren’t worthy for who they are!
This is our generations, Pink Floyd and then so much more. Dirty B. Hinds keeps blowing my mind. Never heard an Orange sound like that.
More like Black Sabbath.
@@pascalg16 I think they are so much more musically complex, than Sabbath. They could be the "Allman Brothers" of metal, with three vocalist and one drummer who sounds like two or three.
@@nickphillips1721 I can't compare Mastodon to any classic band.
I can say that Tool is the King Crimson of Metal, and Opeth are the Pink Floyd of Prog Death, but Mastodon are too unique to have a comparison.
@@pascalg16 I always felt Soundgarden, Type o Negative and COC were the Sabbaths.
@@pascalg16 I agree. They are amazingly original.
My god..every album pushes deeper and deeper.. these guys make emotions..never the same album over and over. Well done fellas
Brents vocals are so fucking great.
Wish there was more on this album
@@jinsakai9729 It's my biggest complaint about the album. Brent is the most interesting and natural sounding singer in Mastodon. I'd listen to a whole album with just him.
Other bands: As we get older, our vocalists lose the higher notes
Mastodon: Hold our vocal cords
And many beers 😂 love these guys!
Pendulous Skin’s sibling. Love it
Fuckin A!!!
Big time 🔥🔥
Someone finally said it
A metal blues song is one of the most brilliant ideas in history.
Hahaha listen to EYEHATEGOD
You need to get out more 😂
This comment makes no sense as the whole genre of rock roots to the Mississippi Delta.
I knew it was gonna be a dirty bhinds track just by the opening lick ...
Some parts have Pendulous Skin vibes. Sick. Emperor of Sand took a lot of listens to grow on me but i'm already loving this record so far! (still 10 more to go. Hope it gets even better or maintains the quality)
Edit: It did
Pendulous skin is my favourite Mastodon track, and I totally heard it immediately.
Gives me Cold Dark Place vibes too.
I came here to comment this, its like this song could be a sequel to Blood Mountain or something
Agree. Pendulous Skin popped right away in my mind, after the 18 seconds mark..
Brent please make an entire album like this!!!!
heard of cold dark place? :)
I imagine that this is the song that Brent sings to the passing trains.
HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING I LOVE WHEN BRENT COMPOSES
I love the ethereal sounding guitar chords in this track. Brent and Bill's plucking makes me feel like I'm having an acid trip in the Wild West.
I paid you in Fool's Gold and I don't owe you anymore. 🎵
🔥
I fucking love Brent. This gives me more of the Cold Dark Place vibes I've been craving for years.
They could do an entire album in a Cold Dark Place style and I would love it
That EP is magical, and this is definitely giving me that vibe.
This song hits hard, when I read the lyrics, it makes me feel understood. longing for times long gone, yearning to get them back.
1hr 26mins of songs that are just as golden as this. Mastodon made Christmas come early
Christmas wasnt the only thing that came early...
Strong Brent signature all over this one
With a title like the beast, I was expecting something a lot heavier but this was refreshing and absolutely delightful. This band man 😍
The beginning with Brent singing is almost perfect…. Then they go into a prog type feel, and a great guitar solo…..then the final verse with Brent is pretty much perfect song writing. And I’m not even a huge Mastadon fan.
Honestly the final verse is almost perfect…… just had to say that.
Mastodon*
There's really something about the verse music & vocal melody that's resonates a lot with me, like a desperate bittesweet aura.
Its crazy these guys only started singing cause they couldn't find a good singer replacement when their first singer (Eric Saner) quit...
And now 3 of them have become incredible singers.
This song is one of Mastodon's greatest songs ever written. It has the adjective "Flawless" written all over. Amazing composition.
Stunning
Once again and maybe the best example of Brent being the heart and soul of this band. Everything that's Brent led is unique.
having listened to metal/rock for the better part of 5 decades, i thank the gods that Brann has graced us with his voice!!!!!!!!
I love how all of their voices have developed into something so amazing.
I can't get over this song, the more I listen to it the more I love it. Its absolutely fantastic, possibly one of my favorite songs of all time. They really knocked it out of the park with this album.
There's not a single song I don't like from them every album is one banger after another. They're one of my favorite bands 🔥💯
I think it's amazing that the drummer can sing and play the drums at the same time. I couldn't even imagine playing the drums that well an sing at the same time. That is the definition of talent. There should be a picture of the drummer in the dictionary next to the definition of talent. There's nothing better than that talented. I think as a community people should respect more people who have raw talent like that whether it's music, sports or art. ALOT of people are overlooked that deserve more respect than they have and they still keep going making life happen for them. That's what motivates me every day to be a good person and be honored to even hear as good of music as they make every day. Every day above ground is a good day and another chance to make your life better than yesterday. Clinging to the past will get you nowhere but worse than you ever were. I'm grateful my eyes even open in the morning let alone hearing the music Mastodon makes. I cherish every minute I have of my life.
@@gordonwhitehouse3353they are not like slipknot LOL. They are much better than that my dude. Don’t disrespect mastodon like that
@@vigilr6595 I don't think you understood what I was saying LOL
Man, this just came out a few hours ago and it's already a classic!
truly a pleasant surprise! the tones of the guitars, the emotion in the vocals, the maturity and control of the drums... everything vibes so well. great work!
Brent should sing more
He sounds great here
Mastodon has aged like the finest wine. Utterly splendid.
This one got me choked up the first time i heard it. Unreal
The stars in the distance. Oh they tell a story in my life…..
Just perfect.
EVERYONE STAY CALM, IT'S HAPPENING!
I'M FUCKING CALM!!! YOU STAY CALM!!!
This and More Than I Could Chew are 2 of the best Mastodon songs ever
This is like a warm blanket and a nice glass of whiskey on a cold night. Easily my favorite song from this album
Hm remindss me a bit of that hobo i saw today on the side of the freeway in Atlanta!
Gives off Pendulous skin vibes i like it
Roses are red
Brent are blues
🙃🔥🎼
I've had worst setback in my life this year. Thankfully, Mastodon is here to make things better, I love you guys 🤘🏻
Same here. Hope all is well
It's gonna be alright guys. We've gotten this far, let's see how much further we can go
Like the tide, life is all ebb and flow. Trouble always on its way, just roll with it, It’s those experiences that shape you.
Same brother... this is like a drug to me! So amazing! Love this... hope everythings gets better
Aye, you hang in there, my friend. Something beautiful is headed your way. Nothing but love 🎵🤘🙂
I’m getting some Cornell vibes from Brent’s vocals. Love it.
I'm not. But cool if you are.
I immediately got Call Me a Dog vibes off this, you’re not alone. Love it as well.
@@momlife5595 Yes! Call me a Dog!
A little.
@@momlife5595Yeah! That one.
Best I’ve heard off the new album.
I agree.
Can’t argue with that.
It might be that the first Mastodon song I heard (and saw the mv), that was Oblivion, kinda set the tone back then, but I somehow always feel like flying into distant worlds full of wonder and weirdness in a tiny little spaceship when listening to them.
I have no idea how and why this works but I sure as hell wont complain.
I love this song.
Fuckin' A right you do.
My favorite guitar track om this album so far
Brent singing is mastodon to me. He’s a unique dude, there’s only one Brent hinds
I really actually feel relieved for hearing this dude's voice after 4 songs. I like Troy and Brann, they're awesome, but... Well, Brent is still Mastodon's trademark kind of.
This is quickly becoming my favorite track on this album of pure wonder.
I can't get enough. 🖤
4:03 :( so beautiful it makes me sad. Brent is one of the absolute best lead guitarists ever.
It's not even Brent lol, but I agree
Guitar solo by Marcus King
Song literally saved my life this past winter, whatever it is it's what I needed to hear.
2:47 And again, we see the influence of Frame by frame's 7/8 riff at this part
A song that I used to skip, then fell in love with later😁
Maaaan i cant get enough of that intro damn
For my money this is the best song on that record. So honest. Brent really brings the most heart to the band.
I'm still processing this massive album, but this is my favourite track so far.
Got that Pendulous skin vibe there🔥
this song is SO brent hinds I can't even believe it!
AND I LOVE IT!
I can't wait for the Brent Hinds and Matt Pike project to come out. Brent says he saved a lot of ideas for that album.
Bruh am I the only one in love with this album? They really stepped it up on this one. It’s like cold dark place turns up 10 notches. Coming from a guy who first heard mastodon on headbangers ball 2006 and have grown through all their albums and this one is so beautiful
That and I remember adult swim playing a clip of oblivion as a promotion for crack the skye
Nope
@@hastyhillfarmand4x480sounds like something Adult Swim would do
I've only listened to this song twice now but I feel like I've known it for ever. Wonderful.
This whole album was incredible
This is now my favorite soft song by Mastodon.
Thank you mastodon!
This one is like a fusion between some parts of Hearts Alive and Jaguar God with the fresh air of a great southern rock. Who could imagine that Mastodon would do something like that? Im amazed!!
More like who couldn't
Don't forget Pendulous Skin
Vocals like the smoothest whisky only dreams can muster - this song is a masterpiece.
The middle section is SO Blood Mountain. Imagine Troy singing it, I think he’d nail it
It will never happen, but I would love to see Mastodon and Chris Stapleton do a collaboration on this song. This is the cross genre song the world needs right now!
The Beast is loose
Damn straight. I ain't gonna be the one to cage it.
I wish I could thumbs up this twice or more.
Brent got a southern soulful voice
I love all Mastodon records, but the quintessential, dark oceanic eerie vibe has been slightly missing in the past couple records. But this... this is everything Mastodon represents.
Purely magical.
Just listened to this song for the first time. I had goosebumps the entire time. Shit. What an amazing song! Best new rock song I've heard in a long time. Mastodon have outdone themselves. Bravo guys!
cold dark place vibes off this one, yet another banger
I smoked a fat joint closed my eyes and listened to this song and it took me on a journey 🔥🤘💯
That’s nice.
This album is so unique and bad ass.
I think this song might be a parallel with 'the beast' mentioned in Toe to Toes.
Until now Jaguar God was - in my humble opinion - one of the best metal songs of all time. I have never thought that Mastodon can once again write something SO epic, because I am usually used to get something really big from bands and then it is like "meh"... The album is so satisfying, and this song is just a freaking mindblower.
Did you listen to The Last Baron yet?
@@iann23 Or The Czar?
Jaguar God is so good.
Jaguar God is their best song in my opinion.
This is possibly the best piece of work Mastodon has written in over 10 years.
This also needs an instrumental version Immediately
That Hearts Alive bridge lick around the 2 minute mark! Damn I love it when they revisit their past album moments in new ways!
That's my favorite part of this song
The southern sweetness of the opening and Brent’s vocals are just one of the many MANY highlights of this album!
Way to go guys! This is crushing and sooo good.
What a great album so far and I will be surprised and shocked at the same time with much all the band has improved and they work so well together.
Best song of the album by far!
This sounds like an unreleased track from Cold Dark Place and I love it
i feel like the first seventeen seconds of this song alone tell an amazing story, great song and phenomenal album
Alright so listening to a few songs and hearing this one BRENT NEEDS TO TAKE HOLD OF MASTODON LOL HES GOT HIS VIBE GOING ALL THE TIME YOU CAN HEAR IT ALL OVER THIS ONE AND JUST BY THE BEGINNING YOU.CAN TELL ITS GANA BE A SLAPPER . MASTODON MAKES THE BEST SONGS WHEN BRENT IS LEADING
cowritten by marcus king
This song just never ceases to fuck me up
To me, it's the solo part of this song that hits me. What is this the lyrics without the music,'just lyrics' but the music without the lyrics it's 'Music'.
This track is so good
YES! this song is so f-ing awsome! Mastodon RULES!
This is one of the best songs on the album. Brann pulls off a shuffle expertly, not very easy to do. Is this the first time a B bender has been used on an album?
I think hes using the big Gretsch with a whammy bar.
@@RobbieFitzgerald hmm. Could be. When I listen to it I hear one note bend, not the whole chord, a whammy would dip the whole chord. I have to look at tabs and see. I am getting old and my ears aren’t as good, and now that I think about it there a bends on the Gstring 🤷♂️
@@portal432 It could be. I need to find my good earbuds to hear it better.
I thought b bender as well
@@mikewicks9563I actually had a guitar lesson with Brent about a month ago, this tour he was doing lessons for $200. I asked him and he said it’s a combo of actually bending the string and using the string behind the saddle.
Lesson was worth it even though Brent is a guitar player and not a teacher. He was also stoned, or at least he claimed he was. It was nice to ask him questions about composition stuff on CTS
