Hi friends! I have new merch out now if you wanna take a look and be stylish with me :) shopmalinda.com/ Thank you for all the folksy love these days!! I'm working on a folk EP that should be out soon. :D
My dad read me the LOTR books when I was younger. When the movies came out we were so excited. We watched them all in the theatre together and then got the dvds for each other for holidays. He passed away at the end of last month. I miss him. This is a beautiful tribute to him, Malinda. Thank you. 💔💙
Sorry for your loss. Remember you will see him again in the West. Bilbo's Last Song Day is ended, dim my eyes, but journey long before me lies. Farewell, friends! I hear the call. The ship's beside the stony wall. Foam is white and waves are grey; beyond the sunset leads my way. Foam is salt, the wind is free; I hear the rising of the Sea. Farewell, friends! The sails are set, the wind is east, the moorings fret. Shadows long before me lie, beneath the ever-bending sky, but islands lie behind the Sun that I shall raise ere all is done; lands there are to west of West, where night is quiet and sleep is rest. Guided by the Lonely Star, beyond the utmost harbour-bar, I'll find the havens fair and free, and beaches of the Starlit Sea. Ship, my ship! I seek the West, and fields and mountains ever blest. Farewell to Middle-earth at last. I see the Star above my mast!
This is definitely singing to my Irish roots, it's like my gran singing to me when I was a little one. It's like coming home to a nice warm blanket, and a warm embrace.
After having listened to this song from a vast number of low-pitch covers, this is the first time that I listen to this song from a woman's voice. In my humble opinion, what this female's cover transmits, is just pureness full of calm. Greetings from Mexico.
@@Raerae5121 Yes... I think that any voice's tone depends on the person's mood. But I agree that any kindly voice girl sounds better than a man's voice... but in some circumstances. Thank you for your comment. My best wishes for you happy Chirstmas holidays. Greetings from Mexico.
There was another female vocalist several years ago who did the entire song, and beautifully at that. Her account recently disappeared. It was pretty much all personal/fun items from back in the days when UA-cam was just for fun, so it probably got shut down by one company or another getting mad that she showed a game or something.
I have heard this song sung by men, by men and dwarves, and in the Dwarven tongue (kinda). This is the first I've heard it sung by an Elf. And I am truly humbled.
Old Tom bombadil is a merry fellow, bright blue his jacket and his boots are yellow. None have ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master, his songs are stronger and his feet are faster
Amazing! Here’s a quote for you from Thorin himself: “There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
I think I saw someone comment that already, but I feel like this is how it would sound like if this song was performed by an elvish singer, instead of dwarves. Have you thought about covering some more Tolkien songs, either from the movies or the books? Because I am sure I would not be the only one who would love that to death!
Agree. Cant get too much elvish-tolkien songs. Its a ever burning itch that wont call to hearth and hall and leave the break of day. "May it be" & "Into the west" ...
We have a lake near us that gets foggy at certain times of the year. I'm gonna go play this on some foggy moonlit night by the lake. Hopefully some randoms hear it. Hard to pinpoint sound in fog
It's not often that this happens, but your voice took my breath away and made me cry. You have one of the most amazing voices that I've heard in a very long time. Non sono un musicista ma mi affascinano le belle voci , quella di Malinda è un caso a sé , mi incanta in modo unico e mi fa lo stesso effetto ogni volta che ascolto un suo brano anche più volte , è come una specie di magia
OK. This sounds like it was written! In the books these songs were meant to be old and mysterious because they are singing about things long since past. This is exactly the vibe that you gave it! Its kinda ghostly and sound like the background music for walking through a forgotten ruin. Just beautiful.
I'm curious why more people don't cover the entire song instead of just the two verses they did in the theatrical release of the movie. I'd love to hear you cover the dozen or more verses in the original book/supporting material.
Well that's likely cuz the movie only did those two. If they went through the entire thing, it wouldn't be exactly accurate of a cover. If they wrote their own version, like what the aforementioned band did, then I believe people that covered that version would cover the entire thing (MALINDA is just built genetically different).
@@realBlueMoonMusic On the contrary, I think it would be more accurate to cover the entire song, whether you count the published verses that made it into the book, or the additional verses that Clamavi de Profundis covered from Tolkein's unpublished notes, either would be more accurate. If a contemporary artist wrote a 6 minute song, and only a minute and 20 seconds of it was licensed for a movie, you wouldn't call it a "more accurate" cover if someone only sang those 80 seconds.
A few weeks ago I was in the mountains by myself on a ridge sitting there listening to this song with my longbow in my lap (was out stump shooting and hiking for the day and doing photography) and drinking some tea. Your music accompanies the solitude and solace of the purity of the mountains. Thank you for that.
Sounds Like two big armies in the middle age are facing Off each other and waiting for the storm of the Battle begins while the ravens are flying over this scenery
Both your singing and that of the dwarves in the movie are superb, the highest adjective to praise something I know. Thank you very much, Malinda. I wish I'd come across this video years ago.
It is all about IT. The music industry is littered with singers that are pitch perfect. What separates the real ones from the wanna be's is the emotion that you can express in your voice and take listeners on a musical journey. You got this Girl. You have IT.
Finding this artist...I feel like I've found a rare piece of art that only a select few have been able to experience. She is an amazing one of a kind. 💕
Oh heavens. Heavenly days. I usually prefer a male chorus to sing this, but this rendition gave me 'le frisson'. I was SO glad there wasn't too much vibrato! Many sopranos think good singing must include as many wavery sloppy pitch notes as they can get away with. Excellent. Excellent.
The title sounds dubious (taking the deep, Earth-element Dwarven song and making it Water-element and feminine), but HOLY SHIT, DOES IT EVER WORK!!! Isn't Amazon or Apple or someone making a new LOTR series or some such? They need you on their soundtrack. _Need_ you.
Okay...what? Wait... Oh. Wow. This performance is just beautiful. It is, once again, not quite what you'd expect, but it works on a number of levels. The female voice brings forward the story-telling dimension, and adds an aura of faerie mystery to the melody. It calls a timeless longing into the present moment. Thank you for this, Malinda. And yes, I'd really love to hear you do the rest of the tunes from LotR: Aragorn's song, the Lament for Gandalf, even Pippin's "Edge of Night." It's an odd genre to explore, but if anyone could do something really new and fascinating with it, it would be Malinda.

Amazingly beautiful. It became different from the original song, it gained a more "found memory" tone to it, one that the defeat was already accepted, but still a bit too bitter to forget. In my honest opinion, the lack of bass in it, makes it lose all the sorrow and sadness in it. It is not a song, it is a memory and grief, put together in musical notes, where the bitterness of defeat is still very much present and alive, as the day Smaug have destroyed the Erebor.
Damn, that chromatic embellishment at 1:02 was absolutely fire. Really fitting in this style, your harmonic minor embellishments really pull from ancient Aegean music where mermaid myths originally come from. Wow. Also the pedal tone contrasted by your incredibly clear and vibrant vocal tone, this was insane. Great job!

Hello! Malinda I'm sure you get a lot of sweet, long messages (and you deserve them!) But I thought that might be a lil tedious at times so I'll keep it short: Everyone says how your voice is amazing, it is, but what's more than a match for it is your high spirits! It makes me smile watching you sing.😊❤
Tolkien was heavily inspired by Norse myths. The dragon sitting on its hoard comes from beowulf, and the names of all 13 Dwarfs plus Gandalf come from the Edda. Also, the way Gandalf is described is also a disguise Odin often used.
Im so happy you made this. Im doing a DnD campaign, and I have a dwarf player. If he dies, and goes to the afterlife, his childhood memory comes back, as his mother sang this at bedtime. Love it, Thank you again! Wish you a good health, and happy times!
Upon more listening, I just realized, this is what it would sound like, when the elves would attempt to sing the dwarves song. It totally fits the movie. And it sounds like you're in it. (The Hobbit, that is, because this is from The Hobbit)
Very soul searing and also with a soul cleansing sound. You bring back the traditional Irish folk sound that many have forgotten about! Please don’t ever stop making music. I wondered what "siren" and "mermaid"-y should mean.
As I listened to this song, a cold shiver ran down my spine.
Now I know...
Very sireny indeed! Much love and more power to you!
This is an incredible version! I've been on a Tolkien binge as of recent and this is a lovely thing to behold
I know this is a Dwarvish song, but it sounds better in Malinda’s Elvish style here. Awesome job, as always!
Very Dark Soul's Twosie--So enchanting!
Very exquisite- so compelling.
Why have I only just discovered this lady's wonderful singing - thank you to the algorhythm!
Your singing puts me in that place, every time I hear it. Like I am standing there epic mountain wind blowing.
This is a weird mix between LOTR vibes and pirate vibes and I love it.
Edit: the word I’m looking for is Norse/Viking vibes
Kinda like celtic vibes
Tolkien was heavily inspired by Norse myths. The dragon sitting on its hoard comes from beowulf, and the names of all 13 Dwarfs plus Gandalf come from the Edda. Also, the way Gandalf is described is also a disguise Odin often used.
Im so happy you made this. Im doing a DnD campaign, and I have a dwarf player. If he dies, and goes to the afterlife, his childhood memory comes back, as his mother sang this at bedtime.
Love it, Thank you again!
Wish you a good health, and happy times!
You are not human, you are an angel
Oh my god!
I was shocked when I heard the first line...she has such a melodious voice😍
Upon more listening, I just realized, this is what it would sound like, when the elves would attempt to sing the dwarves song. It totally fits the movie. And it sounds like you're in it. (The Hobbit, that is, because this is from The Hobbit)
I just love your voice it’s like an Angel singing. You are truly blessed so keep singing. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Magical, transcendent, transporting!
Very soul searing and also with a soul cleansing sound. You bring back the traditional Irish folk sound that many have forgotten about! Please don’t ever stop making music. Hopefully I’ll be able to see you on October 17,2023 when you come to North Carolina. Your music brings out my heritage spirit and a smile to my face as I have tears falling down my face.
