- At 5:40 p.m., officers spotted Bresnahan driving near Dale Mabry Highway and Spruce Street and began following him. Eight minutes later, he pointed the gun at the officers, who then chased him, Bercaw said. Officers attempted to stop the chase using spike strips, but Bresnahan drove around them. The pursuit was headed northbound on Florida Avenue when he crashed into a blue car - occupied by both a driver and passenger - near the intersection of Gladys Street. According to Bercaw, immediately after the crash, Bresnahan opened fire on TPD officers. Eighteen officers returned fire, striking and killing the man.
'Multiple shots fired' perhaps the understatement of the year.

@@barowt The two people in the sedan were not injured in the firefight. Michael Bresnahan had stabbed his wife 13 times, when she would not leave a woman's shelter with him. Bresnahan took the three kids, 2, 5, & 6, who witnessed the stabbing to his brother's house where he stole his AK-47. Leaving the kids at the brother's house, he went on the chase until the crash. Apparently he died of a self-inflicted gunshot, but nothing was said if he had been mortally wounded by police as well. The wife survived, but with serious injuries.

She's lucky to be alive. Cops were out for blood. She could have easily been hit by their shots. This is why many jurisdictions don't allow police vehicles to chase suspects. It endangers everyone.

That was me in semi truck at 10:07. He turned left to avoid them spike strips. He was going so slow. This definitely wasn't a high speed chase.

These weren't news choppers, they were the local PD and SO. Their recordings are public record and subject to release like just about everything else.
It looks like one officer A Dd a round into the crosswalk that started the shooting incident and everyone else opened up and threw public safety right out the window.

I do a lot of work for office buildings in Tampa and recognized 1 Dale Mabry from working with Ideal Image and then Saint Leo in the cigar factory next to 275 on Howard. We actually moved them into that building

For the most part, no shots hit the car with the lady in it from the police, all into the SUV. There may have been one shot in the back window of the sedan. However, it could be the suspect or one officer. If it was that officer, where he was standing could not have possibly gone near where the lady was in the car.

@@Chancentranethat was not crossfire, they were angled away from each other. Notice how they were on opposite sides of the road, or did you think “their cars are in the road they must be glued to the seats and still inside!” Not a single shot went by or into the cars.
Also, the suspect took his life, but was absolutely hit by the officer’s bullets and may have still been alive when he was shot again as the autopsy reported. Are you always this ignorant? 😂 Read the report, wonderful display of police work!

THAT was so crazy! OMG. How scary it must have been for the passenger that had to survive throughout the entire shootout. That's way more action than we get here in California. Here, we're used to car chases and cars crashing or once in a blue moon there's a shootout but nothing this terrifying. Holy smokes!
I also have to point out how the camera was recording this whole thing. It looked like something out of a video game. We have steady cams and zoom in and out ALOT lol.
Both of the helicopters you saw footage from here are using FLIR systems that are gyro-stabilized. The zoom capabilities of these systems are significantly greater than what you saw in this video.
