I really like the tactic they deployed here. Officers responded to the area of Cave Creek and Deer Valley Roads at around 2:30 p.m. for a vehicle that was blocking the roadway. They located an adult male passed out in a vehicle blocking traffic in the roadway. Officers observed weapons and what appeared to be drugs inside the vehicle as well. When the driver woke up, he rammed his car back and forth in to the police cars, and was eventually able to drive off. Officers did not pursue the car, but a police helicopter was used to keep surveillance on the car, while detectives from Phoenix Police's tactical support bureau responded. The vehicle was eventually grappled and stopped near 48th Street and the I-10. Less-lethal munitions and a police K-9 were utilized to safely take the driver of the vehicle into custody.

The police should be commended for their ability not just the grappler but the way they handled this whole chase. Very low key low pressure on the criminal. You cornered him but not right on him, gave him enough room to feel he was still in control. It's the only reason this guy wasn't flying down the road and stopped at the light later. It took a lot of patients and training by the police to be able to pull this off this well. We need more funding for our police and training. So people don't get hurt and yes even the criminal.
Not every law enforcement vehicle needs one. They are dispatched upon request and it would not make sense to the taxpayer to fit every vehicle with one of these.

This a very safe and useful tool that I would not mind more departments using. There are a lot of steps police departments need to take to make traffic stops and pursuit safer. This is one of them.
Yeah I just don't think PITs are safe. They are often done in traffic, and it puts people at risk. The UK are able to do flawless box ins almsot every time, why can't the US
At slow speeds this is fine, but it completely locks up the rear axle, which means you lose all control of the vehicle, as you are skidding on rubber. So, great tool for slow speed.
This day of technology you would think that they have a electric probe or stun gun type device to pop the car into "off" mode kill the engine then force the purp into a foot chase thinking would be much better than what I see done today at 90 mph or unloading firearms into populated areas?? Nice job to officers 👏 they do best with what tools they are given.
I remember seeing the inventor of The Grabbler when he first brought it to the attention of police in Arizona (I think that’s where he lives). I don’t know if any other police departments in other states have purchased it but I think every department in every state should have at least 2 police vehicles equipped with The Grabbler. I believe it would save many innocent people from being severely injured and save lives. Even if it saved one life, it’s worth it.
The grappler is just a damned miracle tool for how safe and flawless it works. It should be mandatory equipment everywhere on earth, since it rendered the pit maneuver wildly unsafe and inadequate the instant it came into existence.
Soon all the cars will have an electronic override, which will kill the engine. That the government will use. Plus chips in everyone head, just listen to the WEF, and get their plans. Sad, but true.

The ability to stop cars safely is an amazing advance in stopping evading suspects safely. Good police work by the way. They took their time and waited patiently until the moment was perfect and moved in with great coordination and decisiveness. They took their time and coordinated mustering to the vehicle and apprehending him. This is how all police work should be done. Deliberately, thoughtfully and with as little risk as possible.
So in my area why had a guy run, and cop pit maneuvered them before that could pull into Walmart parking lot, they hit a light pole and flipped, murder suspect took his life. The police got bashed for how the did their job but people have to understand the only way they could have done this chase as safe as they did was the helicopter, if not for it, the car would’ve escaped.
it wasnt a bullet, you can see the large smoke trail. They launched two. Its an accesory to their rifle that can launch canisters. As the comment suggested after you, im pretty sure its tear gas
I wish our police department here in Los angeles would handle end of pursuits this way. They didn't waste an hour or longer with the standoffs and when it came time to take him out of the vehicle they dragged his ass out with the help of the K9, and they didn't have to put a knee to his neck while handcuffing him either. All done quickly and efficiently. Didn't have to inconvenience rush hour traffic either. Well done Phoneix PD.
It's not like that wouldn't be a good idea. but Honestly no..... THE LAPD would just find some way to miss use it like their tax funded bomb disposal truck.

The Grappler Police Bumper was created by a Peoria man who was frustrated by the number of innocent people getting injured or killed during high-speed pursuits. The inventor reasoned: "The options right now are getting in front of a suspect vehicle to deploy tire spikes or using the pit maneuver or some type of smash up derby style process to stop a vehicle and the officer many times is pinned against a suspect vehicle," said Leonard Stock. The Grappler Police Bumper works by using a heavy-duty nylon net that can be lowered from the front of the pursuing police vehicle with the touch of a button to snag the rear tire of the suspect vehicle, wrapping around the axle. Within a few seconds, the case comes to a controlled stop without the officer having to force a collision. "You know, you hear a noise you're not used to, and it just basically feels like you lose power," said Stock. "It just slows you down fairly immediately." "Being able to end a pursuit in a much more controlled fashion has huge value for law enforcement and for the safety of the community as a whole," said Lon Bartel, President of the Peoria Police Officer's Association.

This is such a smarter way to deal with "car chases". Unlike LA where it's almost a spectator sport here it brought to an end with very little drama and the public didn't look like it was in any more danger than the perpetrator presented on his own.
Los Angeles can take a lesson from these guys, they kept it calm and didnt cause the guy to panic and get wild, they just patiently followed until he was away from civilians, then immobilized him in a non-spectacular fashion. Its kind of nice to see police actually PROTECTING and serving.

Why doesn't California use the grappler??? 90% of car chases happen in California, and this seems like an extremely safe, efficient, and effective way to end a car chase.
The chase started because bystanders found him passed out in his car in the middle of the road with a gun and knife in arm's reach. When police arrived he woke up and rammed the patrol cars to escape. When searched they found narcotics in his car. What a smooth way to end something that started so crazy-like.

I remember seeing it too. Back then, most people seemed to think it was a stupid idea that would never work. Oh how the turn tables.

Grappling hook has been out for a while but hardly used. Now after watching this video I hope they will use the Grappling hook more often.
This day of technology you would think that they have a electric probe or stun gun type device to pop the car into "off" mode kill the engine then force the purp into a foot chase thinking would be much better than what I see done today at 90 mph or unloading firearms into populated areas?? The grappler is just a damned miracle tool for how safe and flawless it works. It should be mandatory equipment everywhere on earth, since it rendered the pit maneuver wildly unsafe and inadequate the instant it came into existence.

The ability to stop cars safely is an amazing advance in stopping evading suspects safely. It, along with air coverage, also allowed this to occur as a low speed chase, through a packed freeway, that ended with NO ONE harmed at the end, or along the way.
"It just slows you down fairly immediately."
"Being able to end a pursuit in a much more controlled fashion has huge value for law enforcement and for the safety of the community as a whole," said Lon Bartel, President of the Peoria Police Officer's Association.
Even just those nylon "nets" that shoot out from under the cop's bumper and get caught up in the fleeing cars rear wheels work well.

so sick of her repeating statements over and over and over
For those wondering he “reportedly fell asleep in traffic while having drugs and weapons in the car. When police attempted to detain him, he rammed their vehicles and initiated a chase”

All that for that? That's alot of manpower and whily did they show a pic of some dude and a kid was that related?
@@shanestevens740 lol, yeah, f'ing stupid no? Annoying.
@@shanestevens740 i know right? I can only guess... fox news in arizona, lol. The portend, god willing not.
little silver car looks pretty undamaged for having rammed vehicles.
That grappling hook was slick. All of these chases need to be stopped this way.
Pit maneuvers are really great imo for stopping a chase, but damn, the grappler really needs to be a mandatory attachment for all police vehicles, the thing is amazing.
Maybe not ALL vehicles, because if there is a chase, you only need a dedicated vehicle to pull this off. Every single unit doesn't need it.
It may cost 2-5k to replace the grappler but the amount police dept saved in fuel, resources and unwanted lawsuit are enormous.
I’ve never seen this equipment before. This was the best chase takedown I have ever seen.
I live in California we definitely need one of those grapplers. What a great job
The Dog did a great job also.
You need a truck load of grapplers in LA alone!
@Remmy Are you saying it wouldn’t work or did I misunderstand your comment?
@Remmy The only person with common sense
@Remmy Eh, it doesn't matter really, as it's not really a grappling hook. It's a netting system of nylon ropes that entangle the rear wheel. It basically just locks up the rear of the the car and also keeps it tethered to the police car, so yea, even if you are in a Hellcat, you ain't going nowhere...
@Remmy Yea, the wheel locks up, you can find the video of the test runs of the grappler if you want.
My favorite thing of this whole pursuit was the grappler deployment. How the menacing black silverado was all over him and then passed him like "whatever" and the perp was paying attention to it. While the grappler tahoe came in and snagged his ass. Love it. The work truck with the ladder and everything. Beautiful.
Yeah, PHX is ahead of the game.
Amazing. I remember this being advertised around 10 years ago. It's been in development for a long time. glad to see it finally being used!!!
The Grappler wasl just interviewed today on abc news...Very arrogant and racist..,he told everyone he only works on cars of color....never white cars
He also likes to be called grappy
Fox telling everyone the police have black SUV’s in great numbers, and telling everyone to warn their friends not to use highway and it would be better if he was in the city streets where he would have less traffic? Do they think maybe the drivers friends might be watching their tips also ? What idiots
Nice take down that minimized risks to civilians, and they didn’t kill the suspect. Well done.
crap!!!! the cops should have at least run the cruiser over both of his feet!!!
Cannot help but be impressed by that - imagine what chaos, danger and let's be honest cost... would have ensued without it.
Damn using one of batman's Gadgets is the smartest move in apprehending this criminality.
Loved the K9 eagerly waiting for his big moment to ‘go get’m’ tail wagging, good bit of kit.
@@edithnz8395 The handler was sitting in an exposed position, I'd recommend that the handler for his and his K-9 to remain safe, stay in cover until your time to engage.
Textbook! Well done Phoenix PD! 😎
Great non-lethal way to handle chases. Kudos.
Not only that but when the newscasters said the cop fired at the driver to me it looked like they were actually using tear gas or something like that. If so that’s another example of non lethal force to deescalate the situation without killing or hurting anyone. Every department should work like this.
Glad you approve, it’s my proudest invention
@@craigcampbell1843 Yeah im not sure but it looked like pepper balls
Great job officers and thanks for keeping us safe from crazed criminals
The judicial system will have him back in streets in a couple of years at the latest, no worties
Now if only we had someone to keep us safe from the crazed cop thugs.
So says the cop worshipper

So glad I finally get to see that in action. I saw the demonstration years ago but this is the first real-world use I've seen.
California police should learn from this
"we might have to pull out live on television"
That sounded more wrong then it should of..
Yup
Reporter was beyond annoying.
1. There's a big difference between 'unmarked' and 'undercover.'
2. The Grappler is an amazing innovation in LE technology.
3. They're always a badass until they hear that dog barking. Then it's hands up and "I'll comply!!"
hats off to the law enforcement out there great job thank you for taking bad guys off the streets
It is crazy really when you see how many cars and men it takes to make an arrest 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
High speed chases arnt what they use to be with all the traffic
I did not expect to see you here
Gas is expensive. Low speed chases are more economical.
😂😂😂
eveything is getting lame
what a perfect example on teamwork, communication and deployment. Good Job!!
Thank you, Arizona Police, for demonstrating the proper method to end car chases and end the associated danger to other lawful drivers. Excellent!
AZPDs are rubbish tbh. This was a monumental waste of tax dollars, guaranteed, and when people need a mere officer or two for a disturbance, they are nowhere to be found. Driving on expressways, people are constantly speeding, and nearly unchecked. You are more likely to see an immigration checkpoint than an officer conducting a traffic stop, policing speeds to ensure roadway safety. More like thanks for nothing AZPDs
@@austinholm-mcrae2777 exactly what I want thinking.. what a bootlicker that guy is
Never on mice saw any indication he was being chased other than a chopper following him. No lights or anything. He didn’t seem to be fleeing, just driving.
