A four-armed humanoid should have four pectoral muscles, four "bosoms" (whether male or female), and four scapulae, as well as all the other musculoskeletal bric-a-brac. That is, unless they're an arthropod. So basically one upper torso on top of another. The original Unreal got it right. 9:44 Cool (heh) and clever effects shot, but the pellets wouldn't be spreading like that. In fact, not only would they not be spreading at all, but every single pellet would still be contained in the wad. Still, I give them style points for originality. 24:08 How and why are they now symmetrical? Before, he had a bit more of a left stump. Yes, in the game, they're symmetrical, but this movie made it a point to show that his right arm was gone up to the shoulder joint (because of the way he fell), whereas there was still a bit of a left stump. 24:22 That's a good point. That's a detail that's often overlooked in cyborg fiction.
Man, this movie was, as you say, so close to good... Nailed Sonya, Sub Zero, Liu Kang, Kano and so many others. Then we had our protagonist being an exported create-a-fighter from a recent UFC videogame, and they completely botched Scorpion. He moved great, but the literal fire demon of rage sounded like he'd just come from the Realm of Valium Overdoses.
I honesty like this film but yeah the film does have a lot more problems that hurt the final cut of the film, like having Cole Young as the protagonist when it should have been Johnny Cage and the "Arcana" (God that's so stupid) being the reason why the fighters getting their superpowers instead have chi for Liu Kang and Kung Lao and having mechanical/ cybernetic upgrades for Jax, Sonya & Kano or having Outworld being the reason why some of the fighters getting powers like MK9 as well as setting the film before the actual tournament but hey at least it's not like the Resident Evil films, well past Resident Evil Apocalypse.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME because I’m a mortal Kombat fan who likes the story of games also includes the gory violence and the film delivered (to an extent) but I like said it’s does have its cons but the pros outweigh the cons for me. Why does Hollywood have so much trouble making a movie based on a game about a fighting tournament have any of it take place at an actual fighting tournament?
Yeah, Cole's armor was nuts, it looked like it transferred the kinetic energy of hits he took into energy for his attacks. And given the fact that Goro couldn't overpower the armor with his strength I don't know if there's a MK character that could.
MK actually always had a decent amount of care for its stories and lore since 1. It was a leader in story (telling) for fighting games in general today and even back in the first iteration with prologues and ending text dialogue which you didn't really see many other games at the time especially in arcades. The other co creator of MK John Tobias is also a comic book artist so he wanted to make backstories and lore for all the characters and settings which he did until his departure from Midway. He even has an unpublished story for where and what would've happened post MK4 had he stayed making MK games. The thing they don't really care about especially these days but even back then was consistent backstories and details on various characters and lore stuff. They seemed to always reimagine the backstories or smaller details back then and what stays typically is what is popular, like Australian Kano. Kano was originally imagined as Japanese American but the 1st movie Kano did such a fun portrayal of Kano as Aussie it became mainstay.
Mortal Kombat Annihilation was a master piece, I'll not hear a word otherwise. Few things more enjoyable than this selection for movie night with friends, and just Bagging on it the whole time.
It's pretty sad that MK lost it's identity. The content coming from the unholy alliance between WB/NRS out of greed has caused the franchise to turn into a steaming pile of dragon poop. The creators only expect people to consume the poop just for the sake of consuming. You'll either adapt to the mediocrity or they'll find ''new fans''.

Its an OK movie but the Cole Character is just NOPE LOL. The symbol thing with the birthmark to me was just dumb. An when the trailers first came out it made you think Scorpion would really be seen a lot in the movie but other than the start an ending thats pretty much it hopefully the sequel will be better. Old school MK movie is the Best in my Opinion Great Vid
Reptile the Ninja and Reptile the reptile are two different characters. They changed his look in MK 3 but fans didn't like it so they later retconed it that they were two different creatures and went back to classic Reptile in later games. The Reptile in the movie is ment to be the Reptile from MK 3.
Reptile's appearance didn't drastically change until MK4. He took on the "lizard-man" look in MK5 and kept it until Armageddon. MK9 changed it again to look more like a hybrid between creature and human ninja more akin to the MK4 design. Reptile has always been Syzoth as we know him now in different developmental stages.
@@StCerberusEngel ah too many games hard to remember what all the changes are😔. Though I do remember someone saying there were two people with the name reptile one being not very popular hence why they used him as a throw away villain for this movie...then again they also treated goro like a throw away villain too for some reason.
@@trueblaze84 I think you might be referring to Sub-Zero. There are two Sub-Zeros: the older brother Bi Han, who died in MK1, and Kuai Liang, who first appeared in MK2 and had a major unmasked redesign in MK3.
Omg im so happy to see someone else acknowledging that kano was WAY over done! Everyine else claims he saved the movie. In truth NOTHING saves this movie. It has NO redeeming qualities.
I did a livestream going over how I would fix most of the problems the movie has. A sequel could fix some of them related to Raiden mostly, with his decision making and tactics. The fighting was atrocious. This is where Annihilation beats this reboot without question. The arcana is confusing on many levels, but this is an element that can be changed to simply mean it's an invitation, not a power unlocker. The unlocked power themselves are confusing. Jax has strong arms but how could the rest of his frail body lift that much? Sonya instantly having her power without training of any kind? It's a broken element. Cole killing Goro is probably the biggest mistake in the movie. If this was meant to close to how the original games were, this simply didn't need to happen. Overall, as a fan of the franchise and a tattoo to prove it, this was a massive disappointment. I hope they fix a lot of issues with the sequel, or I'm done with modern live action MK movies.
You know the writing of a movie is bad when the only way for the protagonist to actually do his job is for the writer to give him the power of LITERAL plot armor.
I hated how they treated goro. Cause playing the games and the lore he was a scary guy being unbearable in all the tournaments. And he gets taken out by a Mary sue 🤦
I enjoyed this movie enough, but having a new character as the protagonist was a misstep in my opinion. 2 different fixes would have been 1) Cole’s powers should have been him become scorpion Or 2) erase cole and make Sonya the main character (with her partner Jax being the one obsessed with the tournament) And when Jax loses his arms, they set out to find Raiden
@@CuidightheachODuinn Probably but it felt like they were setting it up the entire movie. Goro should have succeeded in attacking his family and I think it would have worked.
I would have been ok with that, since they already pointed out he's part of scorpion's blood line. Maybe the death of HIS family would reinvoke the spirit of vengeance, like it did in his ancestors before him. It would cedently explain why in all the tournaments, there's usually a scorpion, outside of the OG scorpion, just being immortal.
7:56 also does it throw anyone else off that the daughter acts and is treated more like a little sister in my opinion then a daughter. Idk just seems off to me
technically the chosen one thing has been around since mk3 where shao khans spell raptured everyone but the "chosen warriors" hence why you get the ninja cop robot zombie roster
I personally couldn't stand this movie. One of my major gripes is they made Cole the main character, and he replaced almost 2 key characters. I mean, really? The 1995 version will always be my favorite .
MK Annihilation is the last adaptation along with Conquest & Defenders Of The Realm (and to a much lesser extent, The Journey Begins) that I actually defend. It’s all downhill from there with Federation Of Martial Arts, Legacy Seasons 1 & 2, this turd, and all 4 of the Legends films including the absolute *worst* out of all these adaptations: *Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms* More of a reason why I’d love to come on for one night as a guest appearance on Live & Wired since I’ve been a fan for a long time, but recently burned out as a fan due to my endless frustration with these modern games/adaptations.
How can you defend Annihilation, that's an abomination and a distaster. So many characters just show up for one scene and then go off and are never seen again for the rest of the movie. Why even have Nightwolf, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, alike in the movie where they add nothing to the story and just up and vanish after their one scene. The movie's effects look awful with THE WORST MONSTER FIGHT EVER IN HISTORY at the end, god those models were ugly. Johnny Cage is killed off right away which is just dumb. Almost everybody was recast to straight up downgrades from the first movie's cast. Shao Khan sounds like he's about to cry everytime he freaking says something. Shinnok is lame, making Raiden and Shao Khan brothers is just beyond stupid. Yes the fights all generally look good but there's so much of it that all the fights blend together into my brain.
This movie has a simple formula is Hanzo or Kano are on screen the movie is great. If anyone else who's from the game is on screen it's tolerable. If Cole Young is on screen then it gets bad. Also I just remember explaining the lore of Mortal Kombat to a friend which convinced her to watch this movie and she was disappointed that half the shit I told her about didn't happen or was never mentioned.

For a second I thought that was Weird Al
I look forward to watching your reviews every week 🤘
@10:25 decker missed a saying of “fatality sub zero wins!” I know Jack doesn’t die in the film but that scene was so calling for it to be said.
Why do you like this movie?
@@GODCONVOYPRIME because I’m a mortal Kombat fan who likes the story of games also includes the gory violence and the film delivered (to an extent) but I like said it’s does have its cons but the pros outweigh the cons for me. Also it’s a video game adaptation into and most of them are dogshit so keep your expectations low
Surprising you were able to resist saying that Subzero Disarmed Jax, especially after calling them weapons.
Professor Decker, back to brighten my day. Long time fan and still love your content!
Exactly how I felt about this movie, well put!
Why does Hollywood have so much trouble making a movie based on a game about a fighting tournament have any of it take place at an actual fighting tournament?
What does it say about the film industry when the 2020's Mario movie is better than the 90's one while the inverse is true for Mortal Kombat?
Yeah, Cole's armor was nuts, it looked like it transferred the kinetic energy of hits he took into energy for his attacks. And given the fact that Goro couldn't overpower the armor with his strength I don't know if there's a MK character that could.
Well sub zero was able to cancel out the energy build up right before scorpion showed up to help.
@@godzillamaster34 maybe because of the whole fire and ice thing between the bloodlines?
Honestly this could not have landed at a better time. My week really did need that pick me up.
Thanks.
Mortal Kombat Annihilation was a master piece, I'll not hear a word otherwise. Few things more enjoyable than this selection for movie night with friends, and just Bagging on it the whole time.
You recommended a Dead Meat video. This can only mean one thing...an eventual crossover between you, Dead Meat, & FoundFlix. Oh how amazing that'd be!
Cole gains litral plot armor as a power.
Glad to see you still putting out content.
They did Melena dirty . Kinda odd to have Jade and Kitana in the sequel without her.
Toasty! (in the classic sing-song!)
Kano was the best part of this movie. Johnny better be just as good

7:18. Do NOT be drinking water when Decker speaks about Tonya. Thankfully I salvaged things before the laughter stopped.
7:50 Well to be fair "FRIENDSHIP! FRIENDSHIP?" is important part of MK, even MK11.
Kano is why I like the movie and I hope to see him back with the red robot eye
"Jax is boxing in the Special Olympics" is crazy lmao
Its an OK movie but the Cole Character is just NOPE LOL. The symbol thing with the birthmark to me was just dumb. An when the trailers first came out it made you think Scorpion would really be seen a lot in the movie but other than the start an ending thats pretty much it hopefully the sequel will be better. Old school MK movie is the Best in my Opinion Great Vid
Just noticed that at the end when Sub Zero rips off his armor it was a literal transition from Sub Zero to Noob Sabot.
Nothing gets by you, huh
Why do people insist on supporting crap are they just stupid?
I hope they fix a lot of issues with the sequel, or I'm done with modern live action MK movies.
not a good film, Kano is the standout, the beginning is solid, couple fights are good and the gore/fatalities are accurate. the sequel will be better.
You know the writing of a movie is bad when the only way for the protagonist to actually do his job is for the writer to give him the power of LITERAL plot armor.
And even then, he still needs help.
Idk why we even needed Cole in this movie, as if MK somehow has a shortage of rich characters lol
Fun Fact : 95 movie is WAYYY better
Coles power was literally plot armor.
Dude that toasty was chef's kiss 😂
1:57 DID YOU JUST SAY HANZO HAYASHI? SIR SHAME ON YOU.
27:13 Whats With the Mission Impossible sounding tune? lol
can you review hatchet 4 and screams 5 & 6? i'd love to see your opinions on them! great work as always, decker!
I hated how they treated goro. Cause playing the games and the lore he was a scary guy being unbearable in all the tournaments. And he gets taken out by a Mary sue 🤦
I suck at fighting games, so never got into the MK games. BUT WHAT'S THIS?! I was entertained watching this movie... and this review.
I enjoyed this movie enough, but having a new character as the protagonist was a misstep in my opinion.
2 different fixes would have been
1) Cole’s powers should have been him become scorpion
Or
2) erase cole and make Sonya the main character (with her partner Jax being the one obsessed with the tournament)
And when Jax loses his arms, they set out to find Raiden
The opening scene of this movie instilled so much promise for a reboot to the franchise, then I watched the rest of the movie. And it was BAAAAAAAAD.
Lol "it's not a tattoo, I've had this birthmark since I was born"
Dude! I've got assmark too!
From exciting cave, into another exciting cave, then a foggy place, and a dark place...
Given the context, " 'Kink' in their armor" was an excellent choice of wording😉
Cole Young should have become Scorpion. That alone would have fixed the movie for me.
Maybe he will….
That would have pissed off many more.
That would have worked so much better than this "the best offense is a good defense" crap the movie tries to pull.
You had me at “Mortal Kombat”
7:56 also does it throw anyone else off that the daughter acts and is treated more like a little sister in my opinion then a daughter. Idk just seems off to me
When I saw the movie I thought that it was his sister tbh
@@drunkdogwithagun468 bro same here.
Oh God yes Mortal Kombat 2021 review? Put it into my veins
technically the chosen one thing has been around since mk3 where shao khans spell raptured everyone but the "chosen warriors" hence why you get the ninja cop robot zombie roster
I personally couldn't stand this movie. One of my major gripes is they made Cole the main character, and he replaced almost 2 key characters. I mean, really? The 1995 version will always be my favorite .
Haven’t tapped in here in a while - glad to see the internet personality with the best hair is still doing his thing.
I miss the old sofa :P
The original is one o me favorites. I never saw this one and probly won't. Great review 🤘y'all have a badass day🤘
MK Annihilation is the last adaptation along with Conquest & Defenders Of The Realm (and to a much lesser extent, The Journey Begins) that I actually defend. It’s all downhill from there with Federation Of Martial Arts, Legacy Seasons 1 & 2, this turd, and all 4 of the Legends films including the absolute *worst* out of all these adaptations:
*Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms*
More of a reason why I’d love to come on for one night as a guest appearance on Live & Wired since I’ve been a fan for a long time, but recently burned out as a fan due to my endless frustration with these modern games/adaptations.
