A soldier who is given accolades he doesn't want for an exaggerated deed and finds himself in a position where he must rise to the occasion and grow into the mask to serve a noble cause much larger than himself. When you boil it down, Li Nalas' character arc is almost Cardassian.
30:30 I was really confused why Hillary Clinton was in Star Trek when I first saw that episode. Then I was proven right Vedic Winn is literally space Hillary Clinton, with less dead bodies and unnecessary wars in Winn’s closet.
I don't see how, other than turning her back on what she claims she believes in a quest for absolute power. Oh, and taking a back seat to a more popular black messiah. And...wow, she is Hillary!!
31:00 Heh, not to mention that she was Nurse Ratched in "One who flew over the cuckoo's nest". If anything, she's great at portraying characters you love to hate.
What are the odds I just thought of exactly the same thing and then saw this? Actually not much else rhymes well with spoon... Goon, festoon, loon? Maybe the odds were pretty good
I watched this show as a teen in the 90s, and liked it. As an adult in my 40s, I love it. This is the best Star Trek show by far. Yes, better than my beloved TNG.
When they're talking about Quark "hearing" something, I'm reminded of the scene where Quark tries to file a noise complaint to Odo about Odo. I believe one of the parts went like this: Odo: After you complained I transformed into a Rafaelian Mouse. Quark: I know. All those little feet running across the floor back and forth. Kira: You could hear that? Quark points to his ears "Hello?!" ... so it's not out of the realm of possibility for Quark to hear something being said... on the promenade... during some downtime... or when the plot calls for it.
this was the best this series ever got. I thought the whole series was going to be examining the aftermath of war, but devolved into large scale war with the dominion.
This I think was when they realised they NEEDED to get out of TNG's shadow. Both the creators and actors worked well for the fans, and it led to the Dominion Wars and very memorable portrayals of Quark, Garak, and Bashir.
One of my favorite scenes is when Kira is pitching the rescue mission to Sisko. She's clearly in a rush and he takes his time to order his food and drink separately.
I’d forgotten about the PROVISIONAL Bajoran Government! Reminds me of the Provisional Confederate States Army, which was Provisional until it ceased to exist, along with the Confederate States.
Hey Razorfist, Thanks to you and Terrangel for all of your videos and hard work on them. Keep up the great work! Also, major props to using the "original commercials" for these episodes as it adds a bit more flavor!
Deep Space Nine was so awesome. Just upset i waited till 2018 to watch the series but i guess thats good because i watched the entire series in 2 weeks. I love these DS9 videos. Keep up the great work my friend.
Wait... what? How did I not notice that you did film commentary? I love your political rants and DS9 is by far my favorite star trek with Orville a distant second. DS9 seems to be getting a much deserved second wind of attention. Keep up the great work. Quark and Garak are the best. D:
These three episodes are fantastic... but I always hated how they never followed up with it. Jaro is outed as the head of The Circle _and_ proven to be in bed with the Cardassians, and... he's never seen or mentioned again. It seems The Circle vanishes instantly and takes almost all of the anti-alien sentiment with it. The instability of the Provisional Government is pretty much never mentioned again either. While they do explore the machinations of religious leaders like Vedek Winn, it seems the rest of these episodes' tensions disappeared the moment it was over, and that is a damn shame. As a side note, you should have Mormegil on the show more often. He's very articulate and you play off each other well.
On a new re-watch right currently and I just watched these, I forgot how good this three-parter is! Have to admit my replays tend to favor season 4 and on (especially season 6) but I agree with you that season 2 is underrated. This was a killer review, cheers!
Disagree about Bashir. He was a green doctor with little field experience when he was assigned to DS9, which was a to put in modern terms, a shit post. He was very eager to get a frontier assignment and make friends. He wasn't what we'd seen on TNG, where every main crew member was professional and seasoned from the get go...even that Irish helmsmen from the first episode turned out to be a war vet. Julian was Harry Kim with more personality. (Or with A personality, actually. After 7 years, what could say about Kim? He was the guy almost killed off, but instead Kes got booted.) The most interesting thing from the genetically enhanced reveal (though not stated as such) was that it explains why Bashir was salutatorian of his class. He deliberately made the wrong answer to either look less perfect or to slightly annoy his folks. When we see inside his head after that Lethian psychic attack, we never learn his secret, because his mind is that compartmentalized. I guess. (And because it wasn't planned from day one.)
24:25 no mention of Dracula and Skeletor? 44:52 this may be one of the few _moral_ laws of acquisition, akin to Russell Crowe’s line in *3:10** to Yuma:* “Even a bad man loves his momma”
Attention Bajoran Workers! Depths of DS9 s2 premieres tonight, be there.....

@@scockery That's some non-linear level thinking there, sir. You're a gentleman and a prophet
Also, less unnecessary wars? The Kai instigated a civil war over soil reclaimators.
Winn was indeed a monster but at least you could have some sympathy for her.

I LOVED the Deadwood reference by the way, it's one of my favorite tv shows of all time - up there with DS9 & Twin Peaks!
This co-host is a nice addition, but guess what: I GOTTA FEEVAH, and the only prescription is more *TERRAN GELL!*

Deep Space Nine is a masterpiece of a show. Star Trek at its absolute best.
Love DS9 my favorite of the Treks

So pumped this is back. Hopefully this will stay up for a little bit before getting relegated to Bitchute.
I'd marathoned the series because of this.
Yea! More, please!
I'd love to see you review some Orville, or eviscerate some STD!
Season 2 had some really underrated episodes.
Yes!! So glad this is back! I love hearing Razors thoughts on my favorite series!

I've been looking forward to this for a while.
Hopefully i'll finish the episode before it's struck for copyright, lol
So cool to see these again. I'm re-watching DS9, episode by episode as they cover them.
Thank you for continuing with this despite the pushback CBS. Can't get enough of the series!

You should lower the ambient space station drone fx below the volume of your commentary. It obscures a lot of your quieter comments.
