You need a treadmill to simulate the long walk of shame to go pick the plane out of the simulated grass. :)

Lobbying congress is the most powerful tool. I'm honestly really surprised the RC industry hasn't formed a unified lobby group. Perhaps Flite Test could spearhead such an endeavor, since they seem to be the most known public face of the hobby at the moment. They're also uncannily wholesome, even the most degenerate congress critter couldn't say no to those Josh Bixler puppy eyes.

250g is the magic loophole, for now. If we somehow managed to get that raised to 500g, we'd be pretty much where we are now- rec pilots who aren't really causing (much) harm and being basically unregulated.

What's the point of setting up those rules when they don't prevent people acquiring the equipment and only helps enforcing regulation on the people complying. But then again, this would be FTC regulations, not the FAA.

I don’t think it will ever completely die. There will always be people that care enough about it. It’s likely the recent growth of the hobby will stagnate at the very least. The licensing regulations coming in to play in 2017 is what made me quit till a year ago. Why can’t I just go to the field down the road, and fly a few packs? For it to grow exponentially we need young kids getting in to it. You need to be 14 to fly anything legally over 250g I think?? Kids are the future of everything. Fpv or not. If these regulations were in place when I was a kid I would never have started. I don’t blame you for staying inside instead of going out to fly. One of my fears with it is to get in negative confrontations with someone, or fined. Does anyone follow all rules all the time? Probably not. It’s nearly impossible. Even people walking by you. What are you going to do when you need to land? Land 100 feet away then walk out to get it? Yeh… not happy about all this, but I’ll still be out ripping packs for the foreseeable future!

oldguyFPV says; The FAA, thru Remote ID, is unconstitutionally appropriating the use of private property, by denying the landowner, the full enjoyment and exclusive control of the immediate reaches of the enveloping atmosphere of their land. “We have said that the airspace is a public highway. Yet it is obvious that, if the landowner is to have full enjoyment of the land, he must have exclusive control of the immediate reaches of the enveloping atmosphere. . . . . The landowner owns at least as much of the space above the ground as the can occupy or use in connection with the land.” United States v. Causby, 328 U.S. 256 (1946)
If a private land owner chooses to fly an rc model within the “privately” owned air space of his land, the FAA cannot arbitrarily, through its, so called, rule making authority, nullify a citizen's real, or other property rights, that are directly connected to his property and its “private” airspace, i.e., flying a model aircraft. No constitutionally protected right can be relinquished without due process of law. Furthermore, the FAA cannot use its Remote ID, to unconstitutionally force a land owner to wave his 4th Amendment right against unreasonable searches and seizure, and his 5th Amendment right against being forced to witness against himself. While lawfully using airspace in direct connection with private land, FAA Remote ID tracking, surveillance, and the collection of a private citizen’s personal data, without probable cause and/ or a 4th Amendment warrant, data that can, and will be used against him in a court of law, is unconstitutional!
I believe, that this applies to human personal space as well. That space that surrounds each person occupying a public space. Those persons have a right to use as much of the space above the ground as they can occupy or use in connection with that public space, as long as it can be done without violating another person’s life, liberty, or property.

Unfortunately, like the United States and Canada, Europe and France in particular are also victims of limitations that make the practice of FPV more and more difficult. remote identification is one of its restrictions, as well as the presence of an observer next to the pilot. this observer must be able to warn the pilot in case of danger and therefore he must constantly keep the drone in view. the long range is doomed. of course there will always be rebels to flout the rules, but when one or two are heavily punished for leading by example, then the majority will fall into line. i love simulation games , but that will never replace the pleasure of meeting up with friends and flying together.

It's truly a real shame how this hobby has been jumped on and seemingly could be almost eliminated because of what clearly seems to be over regulation.

They sure can shut a hobby down. If there is a threat to harm life or property. National Security. BUT if there’s money to be made then things become negotiable. Case in point. The legal sale of cigarettes or anything thing else that’s taxable revenue

Great video if I followed the rules I would never get to fly I have no one to fly with been flying fpv solo for four years. I fly in areas that have a good view and don't have people walking through.

Unfortunately the drone community couldn’t self police like the RC plane guys have for the past 50 years.
I’m a pilot and I have almost struck drones at 500’, 1000’, and higher. Just last week someone was flying an fpv drone over the runway and around the airport I work at, while a plane was on base, about to turn final.
A small number of bad apples ruined such an awesome hobby for so many of us, and I am so sad to see this happen. Unfortunately I believe it is needed, if I struck a drone in the plane I fly (made mostly of fabric) I would have a very bad day. A drone ingested into a jet engine would be a very bad day for many people.

I don't understand why manned craft can't stay above say 2000 feet. I don't understand why unmanned craft have to to be kept in a very small corner of the air space.
Oh yes, actually I do understand. Its not about safety. Its about money and political power.
(But I still have complete contempt for anyone endangering manned flight)

Ive pretty much moved on, the threats and hoops to jump and extra cost just so I can fly a couple of flights a month is not worth it. The hobby is already expensive enough as is. I wont register or get remote id, but I'll probably only fly a few times a year now in the middle of nowhere so I can remember what true freedom feels like.

I see it as largely a visibility problem. The more that flying is seen it magnifies the perceived risk. FPV and later DJI drones brought the sharing of flying videos to the wider public and thus under the microscope of knee jerk politicians and regulators. Well this can be avoided by not being visible, like the old days of RC flying. Out of sight and mind and for myself not posting videos on line at all, flying in lonely quiet spots away from people (for the sake of flying). What bothers me the most is if it impacts park flying for newbies wanting to try RC flying, using safe foamies or toothpick quads in city parks and farmer fields. Those places are more visible and subject to complaints, and now regulators may be too eager to flex on them out of all proportion to the real risk. Anyways I keep recommending Nanogoblin, it;s my main flying thing.

You know, I like the format you used to convey your message here. It is different and I stayed for the whole message. Don't always do that with all of these remote ID vids that are out. A damn shame to see remote ID being sold on safety when that really is not what it is about. What is this about anyway, has the truth of remote id been hidden? If you look around the world and the heavy handedness from regulators in many country's on this issue, it appears that it has been a plan all along. Was there a meeting someplace where the G7 (or whatever committee's got together) and the different country's all then agreed to legislate to eliminate this hobby? Kind of seems like there is a bunch of collusion here that has not been shared with the public Or have the lobbyists done such a good job for the private interests that it was an easy sell for governments to shut down a hobby with an impeccable safety record? I guess to summarize, I am not a conspiracy theorist but I have to ask, "is something else going on"? Oh BTW, I will keep flying roughly 300 hrs per year, 99% percent of that FPV and the only harm that will happen is to my aircraft due to my poor piloting skills.🤪
