Hey pilots! Tricker here and I want to welcome you to my channel on combat aviation. I'm a real world pilot in the Airbus 319/320/321 series and I enjoy DCS World, Falcon BMS, Falcon 4.0, IL-2 Sturmovik, X-plane 11, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
If you want to fly WWII aircraft over Normandy and the English Channel, then DCS World WWII is for you and they have plenty of aircraft to choose from such as the BF-109, FW-190, Spitfire, P-47 Thunderbolt, and P-51 Mustang. If you enjoy modern aerial combat then you want to focus more on DCS World products such as the F-16, A-10C Warthog, AH-64D Apache, F-15, F-14, JF-17, SU-27, Mirage, Mig-29, F-18 Hornet, Mi-8, Mi-24 Hind, Uh-1 Huey, Ka-50, F-5, Mig-21, AV-8b Harrier, and the F-4 Phantom. Some of the mods that are out there for DCS World are the F-22 Raptor, SU-57, A-4 Skyhawk, Rafale, and Gripen.
I enjoy other games such as Total War, Battlefield, War Thunder, Escape from Tarkov, as well as Squad.

I'm hoping once they are able to get the multithreading sorted, it will unlock more stuff for them to be able to do with in-game physics and the like. A basket that actually moves around with a combination of wind, turbulence and then the disturbed air off the nose of your own plane would be wild.
I won't enjoy how much worse it makes me at something I'm already garbage at, but it will be awesome to see.

Part of me thinks the 4090 and Varjo probably had a big effect on your overall experience but then I remembered that even a 4090 can still struggle a bit in DCS if you play in VR so.... MAN, I DO HOPE A CONSUMER VERSION OF NOR GETS RELEASED. 🙃

All of this would be fixed if DCS would tackle the issues immediately which seems as if 2023 will now host their stab at it...Lets hope we don't continue this same behavior into 2024 or let me just say that ED may be leaving themselves open to "competitive market results"

Also remember that SteamVR is a broken pile of trash, you can have a 13900k and a 4090 + 32GB of DDR5 and still get trash performance just from SteamVR alone.
OpenXR was the best thing I ever did for my DCS VR experience.

Thanks Tricker for sharing your experience with us and being honest about it.
I have seen way to many videos here on the Tube about "This is the DCS killer", full of rambling and speculation about the NOR platform based on the trailer Metrea posted. Based on this video this is a technology that will not be in our grubby hands in "two weeks™" or "anytime soon™".
But still, I do hope that this will give Eagle Dynamics a kick in the butt to up the ante.

This is in particular that such technology is used in military and defense contractor settings, so odds are this is not open to the public or any country can just negotiate, unlike DCS which have seen use by militaries to a degree but also open to the public consumer.

I will be literally speechless if NOR is available to consumers EVER. Lots of things that would probably need to happen for that to even be possible, and I don't know if there are any serious incentives to make it so. The rule of thumb for software is that whatever you think your plan is, take it and double the complexity, cost and length of the project... and you will probably still not meet your goals. 😅 For government-contract work? 5x it and then lower your expectations some more (not to mention all the red tape you'll have wrapped around you). 🙃
Although I will say, things are changing in the world of software. People who have been able to hop onto these new trends and waves have been able to achieve what other more monolithic companies could only dream of, and in half the time with twice the quality. It's just that people like this that REALLY know their stuff are literally called "unicorns," and for good reason. I have only a handful of these skills and I haven't gone looking for work in 5 years. It comes to me and it's a competition for my attention. That's not because I'm awesome, I'm a raccoon compared to some of these mythical beasts; it's just because there's ridiculous demand right now where companies see what's possible, but they just can't find the talent to do it.
Maybe NOR found the talent to do it, but let's expect that it will never happen, for our own sanity. 🫡

Figures it's not coming to consumer market, hopefully though knowing what a potential competitor has on the back burners for a potential public release in the future might give ED a kick into releasing Vulkan. I really struggle to understand how Vulkan has not been their top priority, the current engine is so massively limited by modern standards. Hopefully with Vulcan they also fix the memory "leaks" (simply not clearing memory #lazycoding) as well.
DCS is getting better, ish, but so slowly. I get ED probably doesn't have an amazing budget, certainly not anything like NOR has, but with all the recent content they must have a decent pot to commit resources to Vulkan.

    • @DannyP159
      @DannyP159 Рік тому +5

You realise for Vulkan, they require a complete overhaul of the core. Like you can't just plug n play. I'm one for getting tired of the same old shit with ED, but for people to think that it's not their top priority I personally think is unfair. You cannot throw loads of developers at this kind of task and it just be done faster, it simply does not work like that. For these kinda core updates you need an extreme wealth of technical knowledge and experience as it is the base that the entire game exists on.
Yes ED fucked up, big time, in the past with not keeping an eye on their tech debt. In the past they even stated that multithreading wouldn't be worth it (bullshit obviously). But we are slowly getting there.
Also, vulkan is not a silver bullet that will solve all issues. In fact, multi threading is far more important for the games performance as a whole, rather than just frame rate.

it's an extra job. then it must be said that it is already quite a niche genre and this niche is already covered in large part by DCS. and I don't know how many DCS players would move considering that they have to buy back new modules and only players with powerful PC would be able to play... and people too used to DCS would not even consider that.
the economic return could be very little objectively or compared to what they would get from the government

DCS is still the King, but there is now some challengers. With the amount of money I have invested into DCS, it will take a shit load of coolness to get me to change over. But change over I will if there's a reason. And if Eagle Dynamics feels threatened to lose a large share of the market, they will really step up their game. Arma is also lurking in the weeds ready to jump.

Let me get this straight: they invite you to try out a next-gen combat simulator which potentially is mind-blowing. After an awesome experience you're told they're DoD contractors and it's highly unlikely (if ever) they'll release it to the general consumer.
Simply put, they gave you the apple, only to snatch it away.
So you decide to upload a video about your own experience, only to confirm to us said inevitably. Honestly, what was the point of that?
Inviting someone to try a product only to be told they could never have it is pure pompous behaviour. Worse are streamers who boast about being able to try said product due to some fanciful invitation, only to remind everyone else afterwards that we'll never get our hands on it anyway. The best part of it is, most of their followers then thank them for it!
    It just seems so ridiculous.
