      @@houghwhite411yes but building on this work and replacing it with a modern part or scavenged sensors from old cameras is less work than starting from scratch.
      Nice project !

      @@Krmpfpksgood luck getting this to work with a different sensor that doesn't have a datasheet

    • @Krmpfpks
      @Krmpfpks 2 місяці тому +13

      @@gordon1201 Without a datasheet it will be extremely hard reverse engineering. But I think the data sheets are out there for at least some sensors, even if some might be in a grey area to get. Either way, this is probably out of reach for my skills, I‘m a software dev by trade and only a hobbyist in electronics. It would probably take me thousands of hours (and lots of money) to learn the necessary skills and actually do it. I only have a 200Mhz oscilloscope for a start…

    • @BrunoTorrente
      @BrunoTorrente 2 місяці тому

      @@houghwhite411 My opinion is that it would be easier to talk ANDANTA (or another "smaller" company) into releasing a data sheet, especially if the people from Apertus AXIOM (an open source cinema camera) join forces to talk to the company, especially since they have connections with the magiclantern guys.
      Imagine a 16k x 9k - 144MP sensor (it doesn't hurt to dream) in the AXIOM Cinema, and smaller 4k or 8k sensors for projects like this.

    This should be sold as a DIY kit. There are photographers that would be more than happy to have something they put toghether.

    • @wasir3703
      @wasir3703 7 днів тому +3

      This thing probably cost in the realms of a Hasselblad seeing the use of expensive FPGAs, the sensors, the custom BGA boards with controlled impedance and ENIG whose fabrication costs probably alone go into thousands, PCBA dual sided for 3 boards.
      Forget Hasselblad, this project probably cost more than that. People would peobably actually buy a Hasselblad when they see the price of this prototype.
      It's probably more like a muscle car tuning project for electrical engineers where they splurge their money over the weekends rather than commercializing it.

    Oh my god, each little mechanical piece must've taken weeks to design, and many iterations. And then there's the FPGA processor and its circuit board, probably a few months and lots of money on just that thing. And then there's the software. Also probably another few months on just that. In total this is easily several years worth of work, spanning many different technical domains! This is one of the most serious and dedicated hobby projects I've ever seen! Well done!

    What am absolute legend. I can see this as being a genuine future of digital boutique cameras. I, for one, would absolutely pay a premium for the opportunity to pick my own components and lens mount, etc and be able to assemble the camera on my own. With a modular design, it would allow the ability to swap individual parts as time goes on rather than getting a whole new camera.
    Wow, this is just mind blowing, great work and thanks for sharing!

    First of all, it's a crazy amount of work you've put into this and I'm here for it. Inspiring project.
    I've always loved look of CCD sensors, and although I shoot with an A7IV these days, my favorite camera, I've ever owned at least, was the Nikon D80. The sensor on that was just so good. I've always wanted a full frame CCD monochrome camera, and the idea of a version without the IR filter is also appealing. I'll keep an eye on this project just to see where it lands.
    I'll never buy a pick and place machine, so hopefully someone will eventually offer component kits. 🔥

    Open-source camera like this MUST have a retro-like quality, almost grungy, that would make it a perfect fit for people like me passionated with old-look photos.
