This is my favourite 'sounds like ****' video' I could never understand why anyone hates on Sum41... their attitude to music is brilliant... play what you want and play what you like x
No hard feelings! Was just weird cause it's a rule you always seem very serious about so not even having it mentioned there felt odd, but it doesn't make the video bad in any way ^^ just surprising
But if the guy in the band they’re trying to sound like plays someone else’s signature, is the rule called off? Dave plays a Tremonti if I’m not mistaken
@Austin Black but they stated in the Joe Bonamassa video he used a Musicman John Petrucci but they can't use that because no sig for someone else's rig
They actually said in the video (6:50 or so) that the guy they're sounding like plays a Tremonti. If the dude plays a sig and they have one, they have to use it. You can't get closer than the real thing or, in this case, the SE version. Good value on those guitars too. Just an opinion though. Have a wonderful evening!
This is my favourite Sounds Like video you’ve ever done. Not because of the gear or the sound, but because of the banter and the outtakes and the Bea breaking the Matt 😂
Prince is long overdue. They could even have Danish Pete in like they did for the John Mayer video. I'm pretty sure that DP just lives at Andertons nowadays...
I remember being blown away when I first heard Sum 41. I specifically remember the guitar tones on the “Chuck” album being awesome. Actually, their song “The Bitter End” from that same album was one of the first songs I wanted to learn when I started playing guitar and the solo kicked my ass for a while.
hopefully it'll be better than the video on how to sound like "Ultimate Post Rock Rig" cos that sounded nothing like them, the band called Ultimate Post Rock Rig that is which sucks cos Ultimate Post Rock Rig is my favorite band
Love this clip! Well played and informative, as usual. AND great fun!!! Keep it up guys! I could listen to your Sum 41 riffing all night and I don't even like them. :) :)
Great video guys, I loved Sum 41 when I was younger to, it brought back memories. I'd suggest sound like Amon Amarth without busting and Sabaton without busting. Cheers!
I’ve never really considered myself a big Sum 41 fan but this reminded me of so many good drunken nights out and just how catchy those songs are, and you looked like you were having a lot of fun.
I think it would be interesting to see a "sound like video" where you guys sit and dial in the tones for the artist, so we can see how much work you guys put into these videos!
Another great one guys! I play nothing that I would call close to Sum 41, but I'd gladly gig with either of those rigs. I'd just have to turn the gain down a bit. They both sound great and they're both quality. Poor Matt! The room and Bea liked to killed him! That is why you play so well together. You actually enjoy what you do for a living and it shows. Good for you!
@@riccardozamprogno5824 lmao "an album" they have just one song that is some kind of homage to "Battery" and that is it, the song is garbage tbh and im a huge Sum 41 fan
I commented on the last sound like video and said you guys should sound like "Thrice" and/or "Atreyu" and I just so happen to have seen both of them on tour WITH SUM 41, recently. I think it's a sign. You need to do a sound like Atreyu and a Thrice episode, now. The universe has spoken!!
How about "Bush" - the old Sixteen Stone era? What a great fun episode - good to see you still have so much fun! - And what great value rigs you put together today - great sounds.
For Deryck's rig, there's a definite dividing line between Chuck and Underclass Hero. He started using the Tele Thinline for Underclass Hero and seems he's been playing that since then. Prior to that he was using Gibson. He did a track breakdown for Still Waiting and he mentioned on that he was using a '59 Les Paul and an SG. Looking at live videos, it looked like he was mostly using a Les Paul Standard and occasionally an SG. He also used a Gibson Marauder in the In Too Deep music video.
@blakestone75 the rules state you can't use someone else's signature guitar to sound like another guitarist and they broke it, they made the rule up on the Limp Bizkit video
Dave actually played a bunch of PRS double cuts before he switched to a singlecut but I don't remember seeing him with a Tremonti. He did play a custom made singlecut not routed for a neck pickup obviously, it was satin poopy brown with an orange/red competition stripe. Deryck was a Gibson guy but switched to humbucker equiped Teles and ended up with a modded 72 Deluxe, Squier did a signature model of it. Deryck uses a few custom thinlines based on his 'signature' style guitar, live because of his bad back. Though lately he's been seen with a modified version of his old Gibson Marauder without the stickers. For the folks who don't know what a Marauder is, check their Fatlip video

Their newer music isn’t as good as the originals
@@somekindofmonkeyapprentice8697 but it is not bad
As someone who turns 30 tomorrow the nostalgia of All Killer, No Filler riffs is giving me a midlife crisis!
its supposed to make you feel 15! now put your hat backwards and hide those bald Spots!
54 and still listening pal👍
Fun fact: daves PRS is actually an early pre production tremonti
SilentHunter981 and now he uses strats with stacked single coils
@@slayerdude10 He plays a few guitars, including a semi hollow S2 SC, still a PRS guy
He finally has and Artist Custom that ISN'T routed with a neck PU! Of course is a solid off brown colour 😂
Steven Chabot but i see him playing only Stacked Strats now 🤔
PS: For punky nostalgia vibes, Sound Like The Offspring!
Always appreciate the outtakes!

You broke the rule. Then me.
The end of the video makes of for pretty much of what happened this year. Comedy gold.
California vibes? Aren't they Canadian?
Ya... Ajax, Ontario is no California.
Yeah, they're from Ajax
Yeah, but they were a big part of the california punk scene in the late 90s.
i literally came into the comments to post this very thing. haha
How to sound like Sum 41:
Step 1 - way too many Bovine Sex Club shows.
That end is brilliant, I'll like for sure
What happened to the "no someone's sig for someone else's rig" rule?
you beat me to it!
yeah, at least someone else noticed
But if the guy in the band they’re trying to sound like plays someone else’s signature, is the rule called off? Dave plays a Tremonti if I’m not mistaken

SOMEBODY’S SIG FOR SOMEBODY ELSES RIG! Good choice though
Joshua James what if that’s the guitar Dave from Sum 41 actually played though? Would you still be offended?
@_Nickoustic_ he probably would
I think I've seen Dave play a PRS Tremonti though

Absolutely nailed it. So enjoyable listening to these old punk pop riffs. Right in the childhood.
Because someone played Purple Rain when you were at the Bassbreaker I'm gonna just put this out there: PRINCE FOR GODS SAKE!

Also John Mayer in Dead and company
Hands down one of the best videos you all have done. Also had me laughing far too much at the end!

Been waiting for this one for awhile actually
You guys were spot on, definitely one of your best episodes.
This is great. Always loved Sum 41s tones. They're big Soldano ans Bogner fans. Sophistication within an unsophisticated genre.
Oh man hearing these riffs again takes me back. I feel a whole pop punk revival on the horizon for me
Together these contrast so well. Noice work fellas.
One of the best episodes of "sounds like" ever. Bit of humanity at the end was beautiful.😅😂😂
Always forget how killer that Still Waiting riff is.. loving the high school throwback, good vid!
they cut a lot out of the riff out though XD
Ugh this episode was sick! Great job guys.
You know what? This might just be my favourite episode. Absolutely nailed the tones
