Sum 41's guitarist doesn't get enough love. His riffs are ridiculous.
"All Killer No Filler" is still the greatest album title of all time
Why is that
Danial Because it sounds cool, it rhymes and plus it’s speaks the truth: every song on the album is Killer, and there are no Filler songs.
Real
I was a Does This Look Infected? Fan but I go back and forth between which one I like more
Ummm.. no it’s not.
I love you can see how much these guys play together. They're just jamming away, but when then they absolutely nail two synchronised guitar parts. I love how tight a good band gets.
Brown sound underrated guitar legend. Chuck is Sum41s best album because of him. Pure badass riffing.
Ubermetalhed you are right.... the best album...with their best line up.. N best lyrics... N most badass riffs of Dave..
you're goddamn right piece of des
Ubermetalhed cool riffs but they can’t play lead for shit lmao
Deryck played most of the solo/lead on that album
Does this look infected too...
Riffs played in this video:
1:34 - Caught In A Mosh (Anthrax)
1:59 - Beating Around the Bush (AC/DC)

5:07 - Take Me To The Top (Motley Crue)

thanks, i only knows Black Dog
@@republikritme8651 No problem ;)
7:26 - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Iron Maiden)
@@10Tavo889 Thank you!
Legend
Heavy metal and mullets is how we were raised
Maiden and priest were the gods that we praised…
Cody Clarke that’s how I got into metal.
Fatlip..... 🤘
Cause we like having fun at other peoples expense and cutting people down is just a minor offense then
As a kid was a skid
and no one knew me by name
Am I the only one who’s astonished by dave’s guitar tone? Never thought hotrails could sound this good! A m a z i n g!
Find it kind of funny how Sum 41 is starting to regain traction, where bands that were bigger than them like Green Day and Blink are sort of getting lost in the mix. I love both those bands, but I’m really happy Sum 41 is starting to get recognition again! New song kicks ass !
I don't feel like Green day is getting lost. They released one of their best albums since American Idiot less than 3 years ago and now they are kind of relaxing after so much touring. I am sure they'll be back and stronger than ever soon...Blink however is a much different story.
Blink maybe but green day? Revolution Radio was such an amazing comback from uno dos tres
rev radio was terribly overproduced and flat sounding, and they're so formulaic now (and i'm a huge green day fan). sum 41 lately seem to pick and choose the right balance of all their different phases to come up with what is possibly their most interesting sound to date, derricks vocals are better and the production on the new stuff is so clean in a good way.
How the hell are blink or Green Day losing traction, blink sold 190k and Green Day 90k first week of their last records. I love Sum and can't wait for Order but they're not close to either band lol
@@hertzbergflimflamm357 Dude... think about how much blink and green day used to sell...
7:23 I love how Tom comes in.
You are everywhere lol
I wanna hear more of these guitar harmonies in order in decline XDD
song title?
@@LucasZimmerman I dunno
@@LucasZimmerman hallowed be thy name
Tom is from legendary Canadian punk band Gob. So many hits. Big part of the sound track of my youth, they put out a bunch of solid disks, cheers Tom.
Langley represent hahah
I thought he looked familiar! Love gob, I think I got to see em live once lol
Oh that's where he's from! Looked familiar
I’m not the only one who knew gob… wow
How cool is seeing two of the best Punk Rock guitar players talking about other bands riffs?! They are both such humble dudes and we can see on their faces how happy they are for playing music together. These guys deserve the world, I'm sure people in the future will be talking about how sum 41 riffs changed their lives.
Yeah , changes mine
@LAN Evo like it or not their music is more in tone with Hardcore Punk which inspired thrash metal
Anyone remember their videos played regularly on MTV back in early 2000s ?
Wait, I'm not the only one who remembers music videos on MTV?
Yes remember that
I couldn't bare them at the time
Ah yes, back when the M stood for music
+MIZORAM - Mafaka Hnamte. Yeah?
7:45 pure joy right there :) Amazing video, thank you for making this ❤
I had the greatest honor to speak with Tom face to face during Montebello Rockfest. My band was on a small pontoon boat (transportation between the hotel and the site). I didn't even realize who was on that boat maybe 8 people max). I was just standing up and one guy said "you can have my sit". I then realized it was "Cone" from Sum41 and I was sitting right beside Tom Thacker. I was so caught out of guard that the only thing I could say was "Hello Mr. Gob"! He was very kind and asked me questions about my band and we talked all the way to the site where the stages were. Tom is a very talented but also very humble guy!
That's awesome!
My favorite Riff:
The Hell Song... I have played that riff for hours on end.
Same here, i play the intro riff as a warm up
The first song that makes me pick up a guitar
I remember Tom from Gob. Walked right by him and Theo (of Gob) coming out of Subeez in Vancouver YEARS ago.
Hasn’t brownsound aged at all? I’ve been listening to sum41 since I was 15, and brownsound still look like someone in his 20s. I’m 34 now.
SUM 41s' Metallica medley tribute (MTV ICON) is still rad.
Eh, it was passable. The master of puppets solo wasn't down 100%..
As much as I hate to say it the best cover that show was Limp Bizkit's. Boo I know..
@@stupidazzo5404 korn was bettrr
Their medley with Tommy Lee and Rob Halford was way better!
@@stupidazzo5404 yeah limp bizkit had the best one. Loved how they not only played the song but also gave it a nu metal twist
The Metallica medley they did on Sirius was good.
Almost cried when they played Maiden, that Acacia Avenue riff is one of the greatest riffs ever created!
I wasn't expecting them to do the dual guitar harmonies in that Maiden riff. They nailed it. Sounded fucking great.
These guys are excellent guitar players. Seen them live a few weeks back and they put on a great live show.
Dude nails it when talking about the swing in Pantera’s tunes.
Chuck is a highly underrated album. Highly recommend!
I’ve really liked how sum 41 has really good guitar players and then Dave came back and they have 2 lead players now so cool for a punk influenced band to have shreders
I’m going to miss Sum 41 for life after they break up they were my favourite band growing up I’ll always remember them
They call him Brownsound because he is brown and he makes sound.
Ok?
@@randyrrs7028 These are the reasons they call him Brownsound.
@@randyrrs7028 ua-cam.com/video/6LVuFHT3MSk/v-deo.html 17:13
SOrry, but the Pleasure is all mine.
I'm glad you know that
Sum 41 really, influence me To metal. I love them
Saw you guys at Memphis in May. I showed up waay early to get close to the stage. Brownsound pointed at me. I ONLY bought tickets to Memphis in May for you guys and you killed it.
I've just started to learn Guitar for the first time, and watching this video is not only inspiring, but I appreciate the skill to do these Riffs.
The guitars sounds amazing which is rare for these kinda segments...kudos to the setup for this program
These two are pure killers, sum 41 most underrated band
"Dimebag had a magic in his playing".... yep, i undestand what you are saying brother. Dime was one of a kind
and yet he plays the cowboys from riff wrong its on the 12 fret, not 5. so he just not learn by ear but tab from net
@@mindfear1891 the main Cowboys From Hell riff is not on the 12th fret, is that what you are talking about? i think the guy in the video is playing the main Cowboys From Hell Riff after the intro not the beginning intro Cowboys from Hell riff which starts on the low E string at the 12th, and if he is he is playing the main CFH riff in the wrong place, the main CFH riff is at the E chord position and starts with an open E, Dimebag may have tuned a little differently though, i know he did on some songs
@@johnanderson-wo7mi daves guitar is in Eb tuning
Sum 41 was the first gig I ever went to back in 2003 in Nottingham :) they blew my tiny mind :)
Yaaaay! Notts/East Midlands crew 😂👊
Nottingham Rock city?
@@LittaDNB hell yeah!
Jamil Abdulrahman great venue. I saw RX bandits and Fenix TX there! Superb.
They were my first gig in Nottingham in 2017! Haha. I saw them again a few weeks ago and I can confirm that they are without question the best live band
I just love how they played Iron Maiden.
Dimir cutpurse!! Lol
They harmonized well !
I love that you mentioned Battletoads. It's always been my fave game but NOBODY else has ever heard of it. Such a random detail to put into your story, Dave, but it made it so much more authentic.
And now I can place exactly when you first picked up a guitar
After that last video I was hoping there would be more. Love hearing these guys talk music.
I love the 3 songs from their new album so far. Really excited for the drop. Loved these guys in high school, first real song I learned was the Hell Song.
Just gained a little more respect for these 2. What a great list of favourite riffs. Loved to see maiden in there!
Sum 41 always kills it. I’ve grown up a huge fan of metal and of punk/ pop punk stuff, And I was afraid the comment section was going to be super toxic and elitist but I’m pleasantly surprised and elated to see everyone’s just enjoying music that’s real. Too many people bashing good music just because it’s not as heavy as some other stuff.
They saved themselves with having metal influences if not they would have been shitted on , trust me .
So cool and interesting to see these famous guitarists basically geek out over riffs when I (someone with little to no music skills) will think how amazing the riffs from Sum 41 are.
It's cool to see that even the people we look up to look up to people as well. This video could be me freaking out about how awesome sum 41 are
Some amazing songs that they clearly appreciate. Awesome video
Mr. Crowley! My first ever riff on the guitar was Crazy train.. and iron maiden' s wasted years. This is a fun video guys, thanks for sharing.
Those guys have the same taste in music as me! That’s what I grew up listening to. Anything from Led Zeppelin to Pantera. Thank god for Guitar Hero lol. I was like 13 when I first played it and I got hook into so much music. Went down the rabbit hole and never came out after that
Speaking of riffs, Dave's riff from In Too Deep is one of my faves! I absolutely love the high pitch ones!
Yall did one of the best riffs in, still waiting.
I really.enjoyed watching this especially with these guys!
Loved the guitar harmonies on the Maiden tune!
I love this duo! Tom and Dave need to make more videos together, heck they should have their own YT channel!
So I've always liked em, but he whipped out that AC/DC Beatin' Around the Bush riff...now I'm officially a fan...
Same here man.
With the way the set is designed I low key thought for a minute they were in different rooms lol
Me too. I thought it was two different recordings. Because I’m regarded.
They would be in today's COVID world lol.
I now know for sure I'm old... The guy from Sum 41's beard is going grey. fml.
yeah, people go grey and bald in their 20s. he's really not old.
@LAN Evo I'm 19 and I've been getting grey hair since I was 16 so it's not uncommon
You hush
Hes 38 (think his birthday is coming up though)
Genetics dude. Nothing to do with age oddly enough.
Great video! Need more like this! Gonna go try these riffs on my guitar now
First riff I ever learned was The Four Horsemen by Metallica... Still my favorite song to play 18 years later
Love and respect to all the band members 👍🏼
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Beating around the Bush!!!! Str8 fire ass riff. Can watch these guys talk about riffs all day.
When did John McEnroe join Sum 41?
:D :D :D
Hes the singer from gob rite?i feel stupid askin that question lol
Not many people know who Mr. McEnroe is. The ones watching this video anyway.
@@superunknown2812 I think you're correct
😂
Mandam muito bem! Nossa, Wow!!! Amo esses caras.... Sum 41 é minha banda preferida.... e por falar nisso, amo GOB - a banda do Tom, ouço todos os dias no meu carro (bem alto).
These boys sure know their classics! The bitter end from their Chuck album is really badass: fast and heavy ( came at a time that Metallica let us down)
Was anyone else waiting for them to play any SUM 41 riffs as their favourite ones?))
Seneka Gomez I was but I guess if you play it over and over and over for over 20 years they probably hate them
Ya coz with all respect they don't any worth mentioning or playing their own riff... guys it's just my opinion and am sure some pussy will complain but as a guitar player myself I can't remember of them and am sure hardcore player will admit with my opinion...
Nobody sane of mind.
john thapa fat lip is a hell of a riff to play when you start
@@kisstagals Have you listened to the album Chuck? If not go listen to 88 and The Bitter End. They're actually some really badass songs. Even their new album is awesome and pretty heavy. A lot of their music is actually nothing like the songs they're known for, they're really damn talented musicians.
more of these please!
i LOVE Sum41!
cemetery gates by pantera always had one of my favorite riffs
Science Fiction yes it was but cemetery gates is bad ass as well
Love this type of content.
Beating around the bush is such a badass riff
Oh gosh I want those times back!
"This band called Anthrax" Ha ha ha. Power to you, lads.
I think he's mimicking his kid self reading the nsme.
That also gave me a chuckle.
I absolutely love this
I remember in the 90s getting “guitar magazine” and “guitar world” in the mail and learning riffs. No UA-cam back then.
what a couple of chill dudes
Really awsome thaks
Better than the previous video. They are still learning. Good job boys.
Those 2 playing together was awesome
Love that LPC. The colors are great.
Solid riff choices.
in too deep , the lick you play at the very end Dave , standing by the pool- a classic
Great video
Perfect band to end on 🤘
I want to say thankyou for helping me find beating around the bush. Been looking for it for 5 years. As soon as I heard the riff I was like that's it. That's fucking it.
Killer riff playing guys. Love white Strats, have an artic white HSS start with a Thornbucker Plus and it butter. The custom shop LP is gorgeous too.
Maple neck strats play like butter. Idk what it is but fender got it right. Definitely agree with you.
loved this video
Gosh, Dave is so gorgeous. 💚💚😂😂 And they are amazing. I freaking love Sum 41.
they got such a iconic tone BRUH!
Love the intro music!
