I bought an Olive and Dark Oak M23, along with the matching Dark Oak Shoulder bag. My son has since 'claimed' my Olive M23 and Olive waxed canvas Kit Bag as his travel set. I am giving my 21L GR1 Samurai a rest and using the Dark Oak M23 as a daily. So far I am really loving the extra organization and I absolutely love that the front pocket on the M23 has its own volume and is actually usable. I keep am IFAK there is a wire dopp for quick access. The GR1 slant pocket is so limited in use. As for the shoulder bag, I love the look, but prefer the layout of my original cordura shoulder bag.
GORUCK always making cool looking packs. By far this is my favorite one. I love the dark oak color; I might just have to pick up the Cordura version in all black when that one comes out.
I really wish they would add an external zipper on the back of the top flap. Fully opening the bag to access items in that top flap mesh pocket is annoying.
Already ordered the olive. I agree that the black buckles on the dark oak stand out a bit which made me lean towards the olive since it has the black webbing. Thanks for the review!
I went for it but won’t see it for a few weeks till I can pick it up in the US. Dark oak after hearing you mention how nice it was in a review of something recently. Seems like a good fit for the M23 design to me, very classic looking. Do these waxed canvas bags do ok in the outdoors?
Oh, I figured out you can pull the shoulder strap off and put it back on the other side of the middle adjustment buckle so you can fully extend the strap to fit.
The problem is that the Heritage line is inconsistent. The waxed canvass shoulder bags were originally marketed as Heritage, but aren't now. And when you later put out "heritage" kit bags with leather bottoms and accents somewhat similar to the heritage GRs, it causes confusion. So I totally it when people are confused.
Yep. It’s a little confusing so I try to be clear. But anything listed as just “Waxed Canvas” is MiV and “Heritage” is MiUSA. At least so far that’s true
This confused me as well. I have 8 Heritage products from GoRuck, and 4 waxed canvas products from them. I always thought that Heritage meant MIUSA. With that, the MIV waxed canvas M23s and shoulder bag are advertised as 'waxed canvas', but both say 'heritage' on the tag inside. I am perfectly fine with 2 different lines, and would prefer the Heritage namesake be kept for MIUSA stuff.
Just got the Olive Green M23 from the D Day gear drop and wow... It might be my favorite ruck. New to your channel and looking forward to seeing some load outs. Also... Boiler up!
The waxed canvas M23 feels so much better than the Robic, and will develop an amazing looking patina over time. I would recommend the Waxed Canvas version.
I have the robic version, haven't pressed the button to get the waxed version in black or dark oak. But, looking at it, i don't think they could add a leather bottom since the front and bottom are one piece.
Any opinion on the M23 21L in the black waxed cotton? I read one review that it attracted dirt/lint. I like the black the most but hard to tell if it’s going to be a dirt catcher.
I don't have a negative comment on any of my waxed canvas bags and it's my favorite material. That all said, if your main qualifier is the dirt aspect there is a slight tendency to attract dust compared to others. But it brushes clean without any problem. For me I prefer the feel
Tough to choose between the GR1 Heritage and the M23. But the GR1 is $100+ more. I wish the M23 was made in America because it’s so much more functionally complete vs. the GR1. Damn Goruck!!
@@JBOutside1 would LOVE your honest opinion on this. Maybe a great next comparison. Trying to decide between the Boundary Supply Errant vs. the Goruck M23 in black waxed cotton. I know very different material but just would love your opinion on functionality, look, feel, quality. Thank you!
My preference would be waxed canvas first, then 500D. Both feel better personally compared to the ripstop. And I don’t have any ideas when the M24 would be released and what it would even look like
how's the water repellent property of the wax canvas in the long run? does it require treatment? i might be too lazy to do that myself,, or maybe the 500D the same? @@JBOutside1

Good stuff. Dang kids. But at least they’re rolling in style!
Haven’t had any issues with the G-hooks on the M22, but I’ve hated every Fidlock I’ve ever encountered on a bag or pouch.
Gotcha
got mine and I like it.. the 26l looked huge, glad I went with the 21l
Yep. The 26L bag is a lot more than 26L
Agreed. I had the 26L robic and ended up selling it, as it felt was larger than 26L and wore larger than any of my 26L GR1s
@@joegonzales9053 the 26L M23 in waxed canvas doesn't feel as large as the robic, but both feel larger than a 26L GR1.

Nice...totally agree
Thanks for the video. Got the Olive Waxed Canvas M23 first day. Love it. Never liked that Ripstop material, looks cheap and flimsy to me
Great to hear!
I really wish they would add an external zipper on the back of the top flap. Fully opening the bag to access items in that top flap mesh pocket is annoying.
Interesting
That’s how mystery ranch does it. Ideal solution for sure.

You bet! I still prefer the Dark Oak personally
How does the grey interior look on the olive?
If it didnt have the 210 back i wouldve picked one up! Wish the whole thing was waxed canvas
Ok…I can see that. I like the 210 personally

Yes they do great

Hoping for a waxed canvas double compartment bullet, fingers crossed.
Me too!! (I’ve asked)
@@JBOutside1 Curious, what did they say? I could go for a Slate double compartment bullet for sure!

the Claymore still listed as a heritage?@@JBOutside1
First thoughts were leather on the bottom but anything to make it lighter is better especially the shoulder bag. No leather bottoms.
Yep
Ich habe meinen in dark oak vor zwei Tagen nach Deutschland bekommen. Ein klasse Rucksack.
Froh, dass Sie es mögen! Ich hoffe, es funktioniert gut für Sie
I like the dark oak and the black one. I do want to see the 500D version.
👊🏻
Great video. The black buckles are a deal breaker though.
I can see that
I like these bags but I still prefer the GR1 style bags, simple and straightforward clamshell, everything visible on opening without searching.
I can see that.

Nice Dan! You'll love it. Welcome and BOILER UP
If you ever find yourself in Eugene, Oregon hit me up for a ruck and some good beers!
Great video. Whats your take on this over the 500D? Would love to see a video with all 3.
No real preference...as I think it's a personal choice. My favorites are the Heritage designs of this series
So tempted but I'm already have the M22 and ripstop M23 so I struggle justifying a 3rd Goruck top loader
Yeah, tough call but I would try and swap out the ripstop for this one if it were me.
The waxed canvas M23 feels so much better than the Robic, and will develop an amazing looking patina over time. I would recommend the Waxed Canvas version.

Also true. 👊🏻
This vs gr1 heritage. Loadout and you prefer for edc?
Both awesome. Pack differently. My previous M23 and M22 videos have packout comparisons
the JB tag/strap gave away 🧑✈️ ✈️ before you talked about it 😂
😜
How about comparing M23 (21L) vs GR1 (26L)
It seems the M23 loads more than what it says
The M23 is definitely a bigger bag. I compared the GR1 in my original M22 videos

@@Lion-qi8ej I’ve done a video on the Errant. Interesting bag and company with some good designs.
I saw your video where you changed the buckles on the M22 would it be difficult to change the buckles on the M23 ?
Tougher for sure. I’m not 100% sure but I’m pretty sure those buckles are not “split bar” and you’d have to detach the strap and resew it
@@JBOutside1 Gotcha I saw someone that change them to coyote cobra buckles I thought it might be a simple mod. Thanks for the reply.

Ordered one in 500D BLK.
Nice!
Does that flat nylon back not make it massively sweaty?
Better than waxed canvas
@@JBOutside1 really? I’d have thought the opposite. So this is less sweaty than a Grififn?
