  • In part 5, I start working on getting the intake manifolds, new oil lines, and exhaust installed. I also show you how to test the fuel pump and make sure its good to go before installing.
    note: The size of the oil injection hose I used is 3.2mm.

    Just put my Tigershark Daytona 1000 in the water for the first time since I've owned it, had to replace the starter, rebuild the fuel pump and go through the carbs. Would only get up to 45mph but seemed to run smooth, when I got home I pulled the plugs and it was obvious that cylinder #2 wasn't running at all, plug was clean. I started it up and checked for spark, had spark, checked compression, good compression, checked fuel and it was just dumping in. Guess it was flooding out. Pulled center carb back of and found that the pop valve lever hold down screw was worn on one edge and not firmly holding lever down in place allowing needle to stay up. Writing this as I'm letting garage clear of smoke but seems to be running on all 3 now so anxious to see how much better than 45 she will do now. I think it's somewhat impressive that it could even do that on just 2 of 3 cylinders....

      My issue of Personal Watercraft Illustrated had these skis topping out around 57-58MPH. I haven't ridden one of these yet but can't wait to get mine going. I'm not surprised it was able to do 45 while being down a cylinder, these are torquey engines. Good luck with the ski!

    Good job with getting new oil line! Thats what kills these engines! The lines get brittle and break and oil never makes it to the intake....Boom

      Thanks Alex I hear ya! This is my first Tigershark that I have worked on. Things are a little different from the Sea Doo's I normally touch, but it's been a fun learning experience. I have always had a soft sport for these Daytona 1000's but never pulled the trigger on one until this freebie came up. Hopefully I can return this beast to it's former glory.

    Quick question. On top of the flywheel housing there is a black cap for what I think is lubricant of some kind. (Go to the port side of the ski and there should be a rubber cap just to the left of the first cylinder) do you have any idea what type of fluid goes into that compartment? I have a 99' eleven hundred triple.

      No oil goes in there!!! That is an inspection hole for the stator.

      Hi Ryan, I haven't had a chance to put together the new video just yet. I should have part 6 up in a week or two. Congrats on the Tigershark and enjoy it!

      Awesome! Thanks! I'm loving it so far! I didn't get mine for free, but for $100 on a good trailer and then investing in a new battery and some fluid changes, I can't complain! It's been great so far. Can't wait for the video!!

    I have a 1997 Tigershark Monte Carlo 1000 that I bought new. Now I have retired I was wanting to get it going. I don't think it has 100 hours on it. I had to repair carburetors and replace the 3 pistons. Now it starts great but in a few seconds it runs wide open. They tell me it has air leak. I have replaced fuel pump, fuel lines, fuel filter, taken carbs and intake off to make sure the gaskets are ok. SBT said it could be reed switches, I replaced them another $100.00. A mechanic told me that was reduclius. He said to spray starter fluid on gaskets, that didn't help but some I can't get to. Any suggestions. Thanks

      What you're experiencing is called a "run away" condition. They are absolutely right, I think you have an air leak somewhere. The hard part is finding that air leak. Did you only rebuild the top end of the engine? If so, and you're confident that you did it right, then maybe the leak is coming from the crankcase? Below is a link to more information on the subject. Hope this helps!

    Hi. Could you do a video explaining hwo the water system works? I have a 770 but none of the water lines are there and I can't quite figure it out.

      I have decided to no longer do anymore jet ski related videos. The likes and views this series has received proves there aren't too many Tigershark fans left. It was a fun project, but it wasn't very popular series. Have you joined the facebook Tigershark repair forum? I don't own a 770 so I can't help you, but i'm sure there are some guys on there that can. Good luck!

    Where did you get ur bottom end rebuild assuming you rebuilt it

    • @DIYDanCars
      @DIYDanCars  4 роки тому +1

      I didn't rebuild the bottom end. However I have had good luck with SBT crankshafts for my other skis. I have one of their cranks in my XP800 that will often see 7000RPMs and its still holding up after 4 seasons.

    I also have a couple questions as i am hopefully getting the same machine soon. What is your pop off specs? And what is the ID of the oil line you replaced to each intake?

    • @DIYDanCars
      @DIYDanCars  7 років тому

      My manual is telling me the pop off pressure for my 97' Daytona 1000 is 29psi. The oil injection hose I used is size 3.2mm. I also always mix 12oz of oil with my fuel even if it's oil injected, this gives me a safety blanket just in case if anything happens. I have been doing this for years in my Sea Doo's, so far so good. Good luck in the search!

      DIY Dan Thanks Dan! Ive actually located a potential trade for one! We'll see what happens, its a trade for a Seadoo HX for the 1000cc like you have. Problem I have is the HX is all rebuilt by me, and the history of this tigershark is questionable. Decisions decisions. Cant wait to see the rest of the videos in the series!

      Thanks! I have a 96 Sea Doo HX as well. Great ski too! You have a tough choice as both are good in their own right. Just make sure you can lake test it before you hand over the keys. Good luck!

      DIY Dan well dan looks like I wont be getting a tigershark anytime soon. Drive an hour to look at it... its only running on 2 cylinders. I guess running condition is a loose term these days lol

      Oh man that sucks! What a waste of time! I hate it when sellers play games like that. Good news is there are plenty of good Daytona 1000's out there. Take your time and sooner or later you will find a good one. Good luck in the hunt Alex!
