My Daytona 1000 hauls the tail . GPS at 73.7 mph. Only mods are a custom designed and built cool air intake I did and carb rejets for pre mixing rather than auto oiling.

What jetting did you go with for the pre mix I'm rebuilding my Daytona 1000 now

My father and I just rebuild the same exact ski that we also go for free. We did an entire engine rebuild and man I am impressed at how well our ski runs. We occasionally used your videos to get us through it in about a two month period whenever we got stuck lol. Great series

That's awesome Jake! That's so cool you were able to save one of these old beasts too!

Sweet to see this thing finally on the water! I never did end up finding one, but its good to know they’re out there! That xp800 is awesome, maybe someday ill take my 97 spx to that level.

Thanks Alex! I had a poster of a 95 XP 800 on my wall when I was kid and have always wanted one. Fast forward 15 years and I finally bought one. Keep searching craigslist for Tigersharks, who knows, you might find a free one in your area!? Happy Hunting! :)

Great series, Dan. You've inspired me to start checking Craigslist for a project ski. Keep the videos on the Cayenne coming whether they be quick updates on how great it is running or more involved repairs. I have a 2011 S and love it. Mike

Awesome videos Dan! I'm not rebuilding a ski but have a 99 gsx rfi that is having starting issues after girlfriend flooded hull. These videos gave me a lot better understanding of how things are laid out and will be helpful in my troubleshooting with multimeter this weekend. Thank You! and Jim P is an ass, just had to say it...

Flooded the hull?! Yikes! Good luck with the GSX RFI. Those are fun skis when running right.

DIY Dan yep yikes! She tried to start with it full and half sunk. Think there is a corroded connection somewhere. Replaced rectifier and battery, as last year got the "12v low" message. Ran great this year until the girls flipped. Bumped seat handle while trying to reboard and flipped again... Now it starts if I charge it. Bring it back in and it won't restart. Tries for a few cranks and goes to either "maint" or "hi temp" with a click. Try and try again sometimes it over comes and actually starts. Gotta find the voltage drop with meter.
And I watched the whole rebuild at work last night 😎

Those GSX RFI's are painful to troubleshoot too. ;) A friend of mine has one and I don't think we would of been able to fix it without the dealer tool (I bought one on eBay). I was surprised at how many additional faults it had that the info gauge failed to tell us about. If you know someone with a dealer tool, definitely have them scan it for you. Hope you get it sorted before the summer is over! Good luck!

I just got a tigershark of my own, 200 bucks for a ‘96 monte carlo 900. Engine runs great but the jet pump is apart with no bearings. Parts for these cost about as much as gold so i was considering parting it out, BUT your videos made me want to just fix and make it my own. Less financially sound but i’m sure i’ll have more fun than shipping out a bunch of ebay boxes...

Good to hear! Bearing kits for your jet pump should be pretty cheap. I paid less than $30 for mine.

Great video and rebuild! any tips to telling if one is salvageable?

    • @DIYDanCars

Thanks Daniel! Nice name too! Unfortunately with these it's all about luck. Most of the time mechanics will diagnose these skis as having a bad engine when in fact it's just the starter and bendix that are locked up preventing the engine from turning over. There is a rubber accordion looking thing underneath the carburetors that is known to crack and tear with age. When this happens, it let's water into the magneto cover and ruins the starter and bendix. Another thing that can happen is the jet pump bearings go bad from lack of maintenance and this will also make it appear that the engine is locked up. Hope this helps!

Hi Dan, super helpful videos! nice job on the tigershark. I just acquired the same one myself. So the NGK BR9EYA plugs are proper plugs for this?

    • @DIYDanCars
      @DIYDanCars  4 роки тому +1

Yep, those are the correct plugs for a Daytona 1000 or TS1000R.
