I agree. I can't stand every sentence ending as if it's a question. As if there's such a lack of confidence in what someone is saying that they are seeking affirmation for each statement.
Great presentation! I'm going to show this to my daughter. She's 21 now and wants to carry but I told her not until she is proficient with a weapon and understands the responsibility that comes with carrying a gun. This is one of the things she has a little bit of an issue with still. Thank you!!
Well done Amy. I’m a 64 year old guy and thought the way you explained this topic was quite precise and VERY helpful. I’m a rather new-ish gun owner and watch copious amounts of cc UA-cam videos. The instructions you gave were very clear . You requested other topic suggestions. Since you have a gift for instruction. Maybe a video basic primer on pistol tear down and re assembly. ???
Thank you for your thorough video. It's greatly appreciated. The majority of the videos I've come across have been large men showing how to use a handgun. I'm a small female and appreciate seeing someone about my size doing it.
Thanks for doing this video. I like how you speak like a normal person while teaching a skill. I forwarded it to my wife so she can work on that specific issue.
Great video Amy. I’m an instructor as well. Great to see more women teaching. I think it’s going to help the industry. I’m gonna start referring to your video with some of the women I teach.
Excellent video! One thing I usually add when teaching people struggling with racking the slide is to tell them to get aggressive with the firearm, you won't hurt it. Sometimes that helps the little light go on in their heads not to play paddy-cake with it!
I have to admit, I thought this was gonna be another ‘pretty face gun-Tuber’ vid, but your delivery, pace, content and demeanor were FANTASTIC, very approachable and informative. I’m forwarding this to my wife and new-shooter family members. GREAT video.
I just sent a link to all her videos to my husband and wife friends in Tallahassee . They are 65 and 67 and just got their permits and are shopping for pistols.
so great to see someone who ACTUALLY practises gun safety. Im so tired of seeing these so called gun tubers on youtube who show its empty rack the slide and then start waving it around as if its a prop or its ww3 or something. ALWAYS act like its loaded, then means always!!
Bloody easy! I’m approaching 70 and struggled racking my 365. 4th time racking it’s already easy. Your trick doing it cross body is the ticket! Thank you!!!!
Good lesson for many . I sold firearms after a 32 year career in law enforcement . Many women and even some guys, have issues with charging a semi automatic pistol . Many times I had to suggest to the husband/boyfriend, that instead of buying a semi auto for his lady, that they'd consider buying a small j frame revolver, because of the charging issue . Thing to remember: If she can't charge the pistol, how in the world is she going to clear a " Critical Malfunction" , when it occurs ? Most people don't even know what a critical malfunction is, much less than how to clear one . Amy, that could be a subject you would want to put in a video . I started in LE back in the 1970's, when all LE was using revolvers . In my state, when we were transitioning to semi auto pistols, the state required us to attend a 32 hour semi transition class, to learn all the nuances involved with semi auto pistols . It was time well worth it .
While I appreciate your input, this is exactly what I advice/teach against. A man should never be the one to decide what pistol a woman protects her life with. Also, with proper training and technique, I have NEVER had a woman who was unable to successful rack a slide. Once the correct technique that’s works best for that individual is learned, then the responsible next move is personally finding the right firearm for them. I just did a video on this topic, actually. I mean NO disrespect and I thank you for your years of service. I come from years of very successful experience instructing women from a very different angle. I was raised by a police sergeant, firearms instructor and SWAT team leader.
Amy could be a model. She is perfect! And to think how good she is in her ability to teach. Amy has my undivided attention. At 72 what a treat it is for me to watch her and educate myself at the same time.
Great video, Amy! I was so worried about rack issues that I bought a revolver as my first gun and have struggled with it ever since. Just bought my first semi-auto pistol and I'm loving it! Granted, I bought the S&W Shield EZ, which is MARKETED as an easy gun to rack. But I've had no issues with it AT ALL, and I'm thrilled to see a video going over this. I especially like the 'rack from the side' technique, as it lets you get so much closer to the gun and do it properly! Now that it's easier for me, I keep wondering why I struggled at all!
Good video instructions on racking the slide. Amy , it’s nice to see more young and older women getting to be range officers. Most important is the safety of these presentations given to myself and others.
Best instructional video on how to rack a slide anywhere. This will be helpful to anyone who may have some problems with grip strength. One big negative is Amy was a bit distracting.
Bought a ruger 380 the other week, and what your saying couldn't be more true. I thought something was wrong with the slide because it was jamming often. I went back to the store and that's what the gun Smith told me to do. Thanks for your video it was right on target.
Great tutorial. I struggled with teaching my wife and daughter how to rack slides since I have the strength to rack it in many different ways. My way just didn't work for them. I'll show them this video and have them give it a whirl with my Sig P365 (XL version).
Hi. I just want to say the advice Amy gave was great and is essential. For a concealed carrier and using an auto as you carry, I just want to say this. You are not going to carry without your firearm ready to shoot. The only time you will rack it is when you put a fresh clip in, rack it and there will be a round in chamber ready to fire. An auto will remain open breach when the clip is empty. You then drop the empty clip, put a new one in and depending on your firearm, there is a tang you press down on to re chamber. I have a few... some with manual safety others with grip and trigger safety. I even have a police issue with a double pull panic trigger so you don't accidentally fire in a panic. This is just what I have learned from many years. I will at times carry my body guard revolver which is a pull the trigger and your going, no safety. SO, thanks for the education...for letting information flow.
I’m your newest Sub! Thank you for sharing this informative video. I’m having a harder time than I think I should, racking my new P365. I’ll keep practicing your technique, in a safe manner.
Excellent, Amy. A full rack of the slide helps ensure it returns to battery (avoiding the malfunction you mentioned). Under high stress we tend to forget/suck at fine motor skills. So practicing gross motor skills (as you demonstrated) helps everyone’s muscle memory for a defensive situation. And that olive drab 365 is niiiice.
Excellent presentation and thank you. I don't conceal-carry yet but have a 9mm SIG P226 at my bedside. I'm elderly and have debilitating thumb arthritis to the point that reliably racking the P226 is, well, dicey to say the least and even clearing the rare stove-pipe on the SIG has become a literal pain so don't shot it much anymore. Carrying a P226 is like installing a Howitzer on your belt so that's a no-go. I would consider trading it in on a P365 for both home and carry if it is easier to rack than the P226. Thanks!
Very nice job. Alot of people automatically think they know it all and u see them ease the slide down after they pull it back. Very nice and informative video.
Great tips. When I first got my Ruger SR9C 9mm I could NOT rack it. Just kept at it, with a lot of slide bites, and finally got it. I pulled it out just now to try it and realized I was doing what you suggest.
I know this is an older video. But I want to thank you for going over firearms safety first. Reminding the ones who know and teaching the ones who don’t. I like the color and mods on your P365.
This is great. I’ve gotten my mom to go shooting with my p365 but she still has trouble. You’re video helped me with technique so I’m sure it will help her. Thanks :)
When I first bought my Sig, I left the rack open overnight in the safe to help "break in" the spring a little bit. Not because I had a hard time racking the slide, but more because I was struggling to lock it open as a left-handed shooter having to use my right hand to do it. My coordination not being there (because I'm a leftie), combined with the spring being SUPER tight, fuggedaboutit. Now, I can lock that thing open no problem.
I'm running into the same issues being a lefty. Everything is set up for the right-handed person and it's impossible to get a hold of the lock mechanism to lock the slide back. I also could never find a magazine release that I could make function. So I buy the sig Sauer p365 XL and have them switch the mag release to the right side and I discovered that since I fractured my thumb decades ago I can't reach it anyway! Maybe too old to try to train myself to fire with the right hand because I can reach the mag release with the right thumb but not the left. Maybe I'll just go cowboy and put the sig on my left hip and the Glock 26 on my right. If it was good enough for a Wild Bill Hickok it's good enough for me.
Just discovered you Amy. I’m raising my teen daughter to be a proud 2A American and concealed carrier when she is of age. I REALLY appreciate your video here as this is a challenge for her and for me trying to teach proper technique. Thankfully we don’t have an issue with the M&P EZ Shield, but I want her proficient with various 9mm’s which require proper rack technique. Keep these videos coming as they relate well to the wives, daughters, & sisters etc. From one Texan to another, Wish you much success!

Two good habits to form: 1) Every time you first pick up a semiauto handgun automatically check the chamber and magazine. No matter what. 2) Spend time just holding the (unloaded) firearm with your finger off the trigger in the same place. Until you automatically place your finger their without thinking whenever you pick up the firearm.
Appreciate you in those tips I'm looking to get my first handgun and haven't shot yet before is there anything you would recommend I'm definitely gonna rent a p365xl but open to options
This should do the trick! It was a revelation to me when I was learning and seemed unable to move the slide that I could push and pull at the same time. Your lesson made it crystallize. I'm going to try some of my husband's handguns that were too hard to rack before and see if I can expand my options. Thanks!
Great job for a first time tutorial! Watching this and seeing how detailed you were with not only the title subject and with the basic rules, I have to wonder what the people who clicked "dislike" had an issue with. Really odd.
Retired Special Forces Team Sergeant here. Amy this was a clear, concise, instructional training video. The most important aspects were, you did not assume prior knowledge of your students. One of the biggest problems I see in weapons training on UA-cam is the assumption that your student knows what you are talking about, and therefore using language that is fine among your buddies but sails above the heads of many gun owners. KISS keep it simple stupid. I was a weapons sergeant before becoming a Team Sergeant, and yes we shot every foreign and domestic weapon that was in the SF arms room at the Q course and disassembled them and maintained them. But I am NOT an expert on weapons, I have had civilians ask me how many grains of powder for a certain caliber, or something similar, I have NO idea. You are issued ammo or you pick it up off the battlefield. The point is when instructing firearms, NEVER assume your audience knows ANYTHING. Start from scratch, in this case you went over safety rules, and made it clear why you were doing that. Who, what, where, why and how. You showed your injury, so important, be humble and approachable as an instructor. You want to go thru basic training, join the military. And then last but not least you did repetitive training with feedback on what you were doing, over and over again, this is the most critical element of teaching. Don't tell your students 10 things and then expect them to get any of it right. In my experience "muscle memory" (the ability to do something without thinking about it) takes a week or more and then constant practice. So EVERY day after work come home and set aside some time to practice your new found skill by this excellent instructor. Then next week practice another skill....just one....like inserting the magazine. We all owe it to the new gun owners 7 million sold, to be good stewards of our knowledge and pass it on, because if we do not, somebody out there is going to shoot themselves or a family member. In my 22 years I can relate numerous unintended firearm discharges and many were done with personnel that had fired thousands and thousands of rounds. I guarantee anyone in the Special Forces/Special Operations community will tell you the same thing. Outstanding video, top notch instructor. De Oppresso Liber
@@JohnDoeEagle1 Thanks JD, I didn't know that. I'll file that away for future reference. Have a great rest of your week. Side note: the only time I ever handloaded rounds was in SOTIC and if I remember correctly it was 20 rounds that we used the next day on the range and it did kick the ass of our normal match grade ammo that we were using. So much respect to all you hand loaders out there.
Nice to see a good clear video on technique and emphasising safety upmost. Please do more off these. Would love to see you do some on different draw techniques for competition use and on reloads for compacts and normal size pistols too
Or you can do what most people do practice in real life instead of watching stupid UA-cam videos. If you don’t know how to rack a slide, then you shouldn’t on a gun.
Great instructional video. I tried doing it across my chest, but with artificial shoulders I don't have the strength. I can do it pushing away from my body so that's what I'll be practicing.
It's funny how us men are biology tuned to female visual ques. This woman honestly ticks all boxes off the post. As someone else said, her facial features and smile is magnetic. Even her arms are beautiful.
Dude I looove that gun!!! That’s a nice color too. The only thing is I need the 12-15 rd clip the 10 just seems super small and I feel uncomfortable shooting it. What about red beams or optic options for this pistol?
I use this as my EDC, so I personally won’t be adding any options. Have you tried the P365XL? Higher capacity mags and in my opinion, more comfortable to hold.
you are a really pretty young lady. and thank you for showing my wife this technique. She went "OMG, that is so easy now." I wasn't smart enough to know this how you correctly rack a slide.
I just checked your UA-cam page for where your from and of course Amy is from Texas! I'm from New Hampshire where the women are not as tactical, Lol. Might have to move to Texas!
@@TapRackPewAmy please keep doing the videos, my wife took over my computer and was upset that there wasnt more to watch, She also loved the fact that your a fellow Texan! thanks again
@@TapRackPewAmy yes Ma’am, she always say to me that there’s not enough stuff geared towards women and their EDC. Women’s clothes are tight and they don’t have real pockets. It’s hard for her to figure out how to conceal with sacrificing that. So she started to carry a purse with her gun but she doesn’t like that. Hope that helps some.
Awesome job Amy!! Keep up the great work!! I’ve done several videos and I still struggle with getting all my thoughts on tape and and getting it all edited. You made it look easy!! 👊🏻👍🏻😉

Hi. I just want to say the advice Amy gave was great and is essential. For a concealed carrier and using an auto as you carry, I just want to say this. This is just what I have learned from many years. I will at times carry my body guard revolver which is a pull the trigger and your going, no safety. SO, thanks for the education...for letting information flow.

Been teaching for a while and that was broken down into really well communicated detail. I am stealing some of that for sure. Thx.
This should do the trick! It was a revelation to me when I was learning and seemed unable to move the slide that I could push and pull at the same time. Your lesson made it crystallize. I'm going to try some of my husband's handguns that were too hard to rack before and see if I can expand my options. Thanks!
Awesome, Amy!
I could watch anything you post, keep the good work.
Amy is pretty solid from what I saw. Outstanding informative video for the basics. We need more women trainers for the women in the 2A community.
Great technique and tips. My wife has difficulty racking my Ruger SR9C, so plan to use this video with her.
Always love your videos Amy. I have the P365 as well it’s my favorite pistol. Love how you take the time to share your knowledge.
Thanks, Billy!
My P365 is my favorite handgun.
Excellent video. Do you plan to make more or have another channel that helps with more training?
She does not reply ....
Maybe now she will that i called her out ... we will see
Great job for a first time tutorial! Watching this and seeing how detailed you were with not only the title subject and with the basic rules, I have to wonder what the people who clicked "dislike" had an issue with. Really odd.
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Fantastic video. A must see for all newbies... And now I want to paint my P365 olive green!
Haha thank you!!
I injured my wrist on sports so my grip has weakened. I am glad to find your channel. Knowing the push is the key to racking. Thnx! (new sub edited)
Use a stress ball for wrist grip strength
Great video! Love the color on that 365, what is it? Cerakote has too many variations of OD Green/Foliage. Thanks much!
It was ordered to be sage and got this haha
It’s just an OD green. I know it’s hard though since the colors vary so much.
And thank you for the support!
@@TapRackPewAmy Hey! Sorry I went MIA, but thanks for the response! Sage would look great too, and I thought that's what I was looking at anyway.
I'm not sure if this is a P365 kit but I hope she has a video about this set up. 😓🙏🏼
Excellent ....I'm forwarding this to my Lady!
🙏🏼
Thank you for the different perspective that makes sense! Awesome lesson with safety also! You Rock, Amy! Well done 👍
THANK YOU!
How amazing, Amy! You are a natural at teaching.
Thank you!! 😊🤍
Cannot tell you how much this feedback means to me. Thank you very much!
Also, thank you for your service.
@@TapRackPewAmy You are most welcome and deserving. As far as my service, as my Grandfather told me, "son you volunteered, so you can't b...."!
😆
I will still always show gratitude 🤍🇺🇸
@@JohnDoeEagle1 Thanks JD, I didn't know that. I'll file that away for future reference. Have a great rest of your week. Side note: the only time I ever handloaded rounds was in SOTIC and if I remember correctly it was 20 rounds that we used the next day on the range and it did kick the ass of our normal match grade ammo that we were using. So much respect to all you hand loaders out there.
I always like seeing women making these kind of videos because I think it likely helps other women new to firearms feel more confident in learning.
@@DoYouHaveCRPS unfortunately in the UK that isn't an option
Great instructional video. I tried doing it across my chest, but with artificial shoulders I don't have the strength. I can do it pushing away from my body so that's what I'll be practicing.
Great solid advice!!! Well done!
Thank you! I appreciate it!
It's funny how us men are biology tuned to female visual ques. This woman honestly ticks all boxes off the post. As someone else said, her facial features and smile is magnetic. Even her arms are beautiful.
I agree with everything you said.
When racking, are you always keeping your finger on the slide release? I seem to always lock the slide back when racking. New shooter here, btw.
I was going to ask this same question!!
Great job Amy! An excellent beginner video!
you are a really pretty young lady. and thank you for showing my wife this technique. She went "OMG, that is so easy now." I wasn't smart enough to know this how you correctly rack a slide.
I wouldn’t say you weren’t smart enough! You just already knew what worked for you 😊
I’m so glad this helped her! Made my night.
Never thought about pushing with the right hand. Thanks Amy. Be Well.
It helps tremendously! Thank you 🙂
Best instructional on slide rack ever!!!
I just checked your UA-cam page for where your from and of course Amy is from Texas! I'm from New Hampshire where the women are not as tactical, Lol. Might have to move to Texas!
Great video, very helpful for my wife and son. Is your p365 cerakote'ed? I don't recall seeing one in green before.
Thank you! I’m so glad it could help.
It is a cerakote, yes 🙂
Reminds me so much of my S&W Compact 2.0... great tutorial rack action Amy! Without a doubt good advice!
OUTSTANDING!
Thank you. Good job of explaining something that gives a lot of new semi auto pistol owners some trouble.
Informative and professional. Thank you Amy
Thank you!
thanks for the tip, my wife finally believed me that she CAN rack any slide after watching your video!! thanks so much
That’s SO good to hear!! Thank you!
@@TapRackPewAmy please keep doing the videos, my wife took over my computer and was upset that there wasnt more to watch, She also loved the fact that your a fellow Texan! thanks again
I love this! Is there something specific she would like to see? I have a few in the works. Just need that recoil management.
Perfect! I plan on doing A LOT of these videos.
Awesome job Amy!! Keep up the great work!!
I’ve done several videos and I still struggle with getting all my thoughts on tape and and getting it all edited. You made it look easy!! 👊🏻👍🏻😉
Well thank you!
Her husband is a blessed man...
Thanks for taking the time to instruct us on UA-cam. Your approach to visual learning is excellent! I’m in Illinois and if I ever get my FOID card I hope to obtain a 9mm and can learn a lot from you.
I’m guessing that your dad was a good teacher too !
Thank you for the support!
@@TapRackPewAmy you are welcome !
Thanks Amy for the great help you have given my wife! She has enjoyed training with you!😊
Thank you! Makes me so happy to hear that!
Keep’em coming with the videos.
Where did you get the OD Green Sig? Looks awesome!
Thank you! It’s cerakote 🙂
great video. i have a really stupid question. once you pull it back, can you empty the magazine without pulling back again?
empty the mag ?
Awesome! When will we see you on range?
Hopefully soon!
I could listen to you speak about guns all the time.
Excellent instruction!!
Thank you!
