Thank you for explaining in just a few moments what no one else could explain in their long-winded 15 minute videos! I'm a new gun owner learning my way around the basics, and this video made it very clear and simple to understand. That's all I wanted. Thank you very much. I'm subscribing as of now.
@@DallasBrown-i1cI know this comment was from a long time ago but if you haven’t figured it out yet, it’s because you most likely have a heavier duty recoil spring. Most glocks and other brands have strong recoil spring’s made to hand +p ammo. If you don’t use any of that try to find a lighter recoil spring from a gunsmith or your manufacturer site
I like short and to the point videos. But if there are longer videos, i like "chapter/time stamp" selections you can move to. Bypass info you may know and work to the info needed. Rant over, just thank you for the info😊
When I brought my first Glock home, I worked the slide release and mag ejection until my fingers on both hands were sore because I wanted to practice right and left handed. Took it to the range and noticed all of it was so much easier.
Once a Glock is broken in it's absolutely butter smooth, my Glock 45 gen 5 is smooth as silk and the ambi slide release is perfect. However my Glock 43 I use for concealed carry is a pain in my butt. The slide release almost never works and I often have to slingshot the slide which isn't very quick for reloads not to mention the lack of an ambi slide release on the 43 make it just a pain

Excellent video. I'm a new gun owner and this has explained exactly what I've been searching for. It also doesn't hurt that the video is straight to the point. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I'm' new to handguns, AND I have arthritis. Just bought a Sig 365 that I could not push the slide lock down and was beginning to stress out. Your video was SO incredibly helpful!

I’m not new to guns, and my P365XL lock is so tight I can barely get a magazine in it with the slide forward. It’s gotta be a sig thing. Never had this issue with S&W, Springfield, and other manufacturers
Steve...us military guys are taught to use the slide release. I read all the magazines growing up and the guy that seen me manually racking back almost kicked me off the range saying "this isn't the fucking hood! You ain't no gangster!!" I could outshoot him daily. And I'm a computer tech. He was a gunsmith hahaha
I appreciate this. I bought a gun today for the first time and when i noticed i couldnt push the slide stop lever down with my thumb i looked at the owners manual which only explained the issue from the perspective of a loaded gun and not an unloaded one. I figured there would be a youtube video explaining it. Thanks for clearing it up.
What an amazing quick to the point, no long winded build up perfect. Just bought a Sig 226 Legion and literally almost took it back same day because I could not push the slide release.
Good , accurate info. Some other YT channels (including a video on this channel) try to tell us that we are not supposed to ever push down on the slide lock lever. But that actually depends on the gun. Several pistol manufactures mention in their owners manual that you can optionally push down on the slide lock lever to release the slide forward without having to pull the slide back. For example, page 39 of the Sig P365 manual says: "Release the slide by either: a. Pressing down on slide catch lever, releasing slide forward and chambering a cartridge. b. Pulling back slightly on slide and then releasing it to chamber a cartridge"
excellent video. very clear and concise. Your skills as a teacher are the best. Very articulate way to explain and good explanations. Good work with the camera. Please do more of these videos. Thanks.
This was super helpful. I’m new to all this. I was trying to get familiar and was wondering why the slide release was so stiff on my CZ Rami. Good to know it’ll be much easier with a loaded magazine inside.
Thank you for explaining how that slide lock yes as the new gun owner I was struggling trying to push down on the slide release button was an empty magazine it wasn't until I saw your video and how would actually thank you so much.
Keep doing these guys!! Great job👍 A quick tips playlist would have been awesome for me when I was first learning about firearms. It seems like almost everyone covers the same things but these are the kind of questions I had about 10 years ago that nobody talked about. Killer idea.
TY!! As a lefty looking for options, I walked away from a piece I couldn't release the slide on. An empty mag was in and you're right, better to use gross than fine motor skills. Thank you!!
This was AWESOME!!! My wife and I are new to guns and we couldn't understand why it was such a pain in the ..... to manipulate that button. Great explanation! Thank you!
Finally, I understand. It's been incredibly frustrating as a new gun owner trying to use the slide lock and use it to release the slide. Also, it's nearly impossible to move the lever no matter what.
Technically, it is a slide catch and when Browning invented it, he put knurling on the top to make it easier to push down on. Even Glock's own manual says that using the slide catch to release the slide is acceptable. Glock even makes extended slide catches for people who want to use it. This video is BS. Both are equally valid and using the slide catch is just faster. There are no advantages to doing something that is slower.
Thank you very much!!! i just bought a new gun and was discovering it at home, when i came to this "problem" ...i tought i was doing something wrong....THANK YOU!!

Thanks, just bought my first semi auto handgun and was unaware of why the slide would not slingshot back unless the slide release was operated (at a high amount of pressure). Now I know why!
This was extremely helpful - I just bought a Taurus Spectrum 380 that keeps locking the slide to the rear with an empty magazine. Now I know why! I am expecting it to work with a loaded mag, something I'll wait to try at the range. Thanks again!
When performing a reload on my P365/24/7.. I rest my thumb on the slide release, when I smack the magazine in with left palm I apply a downward pressure on the release. As soon as the magazine seats the slide drops immediately. It has works flawlessly and makes reloads very efficient and quick.
Just got me my first firearm yesterday never owned a gun before. It’s the VP9. I saw a UA-cam video of someone doing that. I got a new Beretta APX A1 Compact and the Slide Release is very hard to push down, except when I insert a loaded magazine, then is very easy to push the release down and at the same time it will load a round in the chamber. For safety, I practice this a lot using Dummy Rounds, not real bullets

Great video i will no longer be using that lever and it will only be used to release the slide on an empty mag.that explains for me why glock makes you pull on the slide to release the slide on a full mag
No I've tried my CZ P10C with a full 15 round magazine. It still did not allow the slide release to move easily I had to put one finger on the slide release on each side to pull it down as it's ambidextrous but I could not get enough leverage on one side to pull it down and I've been a soldier and fired up a retina 9 mm for years
Got a Glock 45 mos and straight out of the box the slide release worked flawlessly even on an empty mag, was firm enough that it didn't accidentally release the slide but I could easily work the ambidextrous slide just fine. Recently got a Glock 43 to conceal carry and the slide lock is almost impossible to push on an empty mag and often requires a weird grip so I can use two fingers to press, on a loaded mag I still find it extremely difficult to manipulate often requiring so much force that it's simply easier to slingshot the slide with my other hand.
I did indeed you enjoy your presentation and liked your demeanor. As an NRA instructor I strive to provide excellent instruction myself and if I find anything in my video presentations that are not on point I try to correct it. Please be advised you did sweep yourself with the muzzle of that firearm a few times during your presentation. Just constructive criticism. Stay safe out there Patriot.
My CZ seems to work a lot better with a mag inserted. Without the mag I have to reach under with my right finger (left hand shooter). I still don't understand sling-shotting. Not only are you asking for malfunctions, but I prefer using my finger which is already in close proximity to the slide release immediately after reloading. It's definitely helped me while qualifying on pistols. Maybe I'm more used to shooting ARs which don't let you charge them when the bolt is already locked. You have to push the button.
LOL, I walked into the gun store ready to buy my first handgun, (Glock based on all the reviews), left the store in disappointment because I thought the slide release was too small/difficult for me. I'm a little salty the employee couldn't/wouldn't explain this to me, but at least I know now. Heading back in a couple days!
Excellent video with a well thought out explanation on the operation of the slide stop. Without interjecting your opinion on whether one should use the stop lever or rack the slide after a reload! Very educational! Keep up the great vids!

With a locked-open slide, what does the slide do when a loaded magazine is inserted? I have seen two scenarios. 1. The slide goes forward and the pistol goes into battery. 2. The slide doesn’t go into battery and the slingshot method is used to put the pistol into battery. Which one or both is the desired scenario?
