    That last thing Ben Shapiro said is 100% accurate. You can't tell someone they have no chance of bettering their lives and expect them to better their lives. I have a black cousin by adoption who was kicked out of his house as a young teenager because his mother couldn't afford to take care of him anymore. He's been shot as an innocent bystander by a gang and left for dead. Luckily there was one concerned neighbor who called the police along with an ambulance. He's not running around crying about how he's been victimized his whole life. He spends his free time writing songs about finding strength. I go to the City College of New York. It has the 2nd highest percentage of students living in poverty in the country, but the highest graduation rate of students living in poverty in the country. This is because of the Colin Powell School for Civic And Global Leadership at the university in which there are many conservative professors who are racial minorities. These professors try to teach individual responsibility and self-advocation in class. Downtrodden people need to develop a strong sense of self to succeed. It's much easier, cheaper, and more successful than welfare

    • @delilahjones6496
      @delilahjones6496 Рік тому +1

      Exactly. If people who come from poverty-stricken backgrounds or backgrounds where their homelife was hell, the last thing you want to do is teach them that they are a victim, or it's because of their race and there's nothing they can do to better themselves. I work with all kinds of students, including minority students, busy getting their PhDs and MDs, and nobody is holding their hand and helping them through all their hard courses, they don't have a victim mentality, they are succeeding because they want this and they earn it through hard work. Nobody is holding them back because of their skin color. In a few years, they'll be scientists and doctors.

    I'm white, and didn't have an easy childhood. Dad died very young without life insurance, mom mentally ill, moved constantly from one domestic gig to another, converted garages, strange room mates, and other rotten stuff I wont mention here. I barely went to school, and no one really looked out for me or kicked my ass in gear. Now that I'm older and wiser, I look back on those days and the most damaging part was the *pity* I received from my mom and other family members. ("Of course you failed all your classes... you've been through so much") No expectations of me. I learned to use my hardships as an excuse. Took years to unlearn that. Still working on it.

    This has actually happened to me. I lived in a dorm with several girls, and one of the girls had the same name as me. She was talking to another girl while I was in the same room about how it made her feel less unique, and the other girl, to make her feel better, asked if she could call me by my middle name instead.
    I was really offended because although I sympathized I don't think I should have to change /my/ identity to make someone else feel unique and I couldn't believe I was even being asked that. o_O' It was like a slap to the face... to be probably kind of dramatic, but it hurt my feelings.

    It's fascinating to me to see pure logic and reason, truly pure reason, impact and dissolve the entire standpoint these questioners are coming from, either forcing them to have to completely rethink their whole argument or go away shaking their heads and then promptly putting them back in the sand again. Their whole basis and ground of reasoning that they've built their infallible arguments upon is infallible itself, so when it crumbles their arguments crumble. They've based their beliefs on proverbial "laws of physics" that doesn't exist. It makes sense in some alternate universe where these "laws of physics" are true, but in this universe once those laws are scrutinized and put to the test and questioned at their finest points they fail utterly and everything built on them is demolished. It's amazing how many people grow up believing these false laws and haven't even thought of questioning them.

    I've heard Ben's argument before and it sounds like the problem is not empathy, but _narrow_ empathy. Seems like the solution is to have enough empathy for ALL sides, but then enough emotional control to then weigh the consequences to all of those sides and determine what policy will cause the least unnecessary harm overall.

  • @DarthBalsamic
    @DarthBalsamic 7 років тому +2

    I don't truly believe these people who ask these questions have fully thought through the depth of these questions. Furthermore you can't lead, at lease policy-wise, with empathy and sympathy while ignoring prudence, truth, and basic common sense--that makes for messy policy and government. You must have an overall view as opposed to one empathic view of one group or community. You can't make decisions that way on that level. The thing about victimhood is that if you don't handle and/or let go of it properly it becomes pride and selfishness which benefits nobody. I'm happy Shapiro understands that.

    After watching a few of these Q and As from Ferris State I'm thinking 18-22 year olds are dumber than a generation ago. Ben will say something and they continue to say the same argument that he just destroyed. Like they had something to say and he proved them wrong and they didn't know what else to do so they just continued on with their point. Very sad.

    • @iorekby
      @iorekby 6 років тому +1

      I've watched a few of them in the last couple of weeks and I agree. It really doesn't reflect well on Ferris State regarding the quality of students they are attracting or the way the college is educating them. I know it's Ben Shapiro they are up against, but the fact that from these videos the students weren't able to make arguments that were logically coherent, nor were able to adapt in regard to responses that dismantled their prepositions shows a lack of deep thought and adroitness that attending a university should really build in a student.

Speaking as a left-wing liberal, I personally would love to see Ben actually enter our political system instead of staying a commentator. He could really put a new face on the GOP that's more approachable, with more fact/logic based arguments, and I think the conservatives really need someone like that right now.

    Minimum wage in America remains at $7.25 / per hour. I am issuing a challenge to Ben Shapiro. Try living on a minimum wage income for 1 year -- and THEN re-consider and re-answer the truly excellent question about empathy that you essentially minimized and dodged. I know that Ben will not accept this challenge because he is consciously and willfully blind to what he does not want to see. And we live in a world that makes it perfectly acceptable to be consciously and willfully blind to brutally unfair inequalities. Prove me wrong Ben ?

  • @TickleMeElmo55

    It is a common tactic of those who sympathize w/ the "victims" to say to their opponents to put themselves in their shoes since they aren't a person of color. This tactic tries to do the following: Portray the "victims" as actual victims and make the (white) opponent feel guilty (but in an unfair and intellectually shallow way).
    Also to "know what it's like to be gay, black and to be discriminated" is ironic because there's a trend on The Left that says straight whites cannot possible know what it is to be a "non-white, non-binary, not straight" person. It's all about feelings and usually such feelings that minorities express when they talk about oppression these days are mostly projection. It's about the feel, not what actually happened or if their perspective is tainted by bias and therefore inaccurate about X situation.

      *Yeah, you can. Just bring facts. Just because he keeps babbling on and knows how to manipulate a situation into making it seem like he’s right doesn’t mean that he’s won the argument. For example, bring out a definition of “empathy” and that’s enough proof that he’s wrong. He seeks leverage through other abusers like him to support his “arguments”. He’s more of a “look at me, I have groups of ‘intellectuals’ that promote nonsense like I do, so that automatically means that it’s valid”. Just because a bunch of people with university degrees are spewing nonsense doesn’t mean that they’re correct. I don’t understand why it’s hard for you idiots to understand this.*

    While watching clips with Ben Shapiro, I am noticing a pattern.
    The people that pose questions to Ben Shapiro start out with good intentions (they don't mean it bad), but Ben Shapiro pushes on, until one realises that what said people are saying is... well, absurd, and that Ben Shapiro is correct.

    • @chummycharmander962
      @chummycharmander962 Рік тому +1

      Because Ben Shapiro is correct, and when it comes to intentions most people stand up with a intent to "expose" him or prove their opinions as facts

    There is no white privilege, I'm white and I've never felt or received any privilege at all. I've worked hard for everything I have and in fact been rejected for work bc they had to fill positions with levels of minority... where's my privilege? When and where do I go to pick up my privilege check?

    Shapiro's logic is staggering. My friends regard me as well spoken and reasoned (and I store a lot of facts in my head), but I don't have a fraction of his capacity to cite case law, research studies and political precedent to the degree he does. Maybe Daily Wire will take me on as an intern?

  • @jingijazz9480

    For me, as a white male, i enjoy pasta perhaps two or three times a week. As a white male, i dont eat so much Rice...not as much as an Asian male would anyway. If i pût myself in the shoes of an Asian male, i could envision my diet having a surplus of Rice. As a white male, i can see myself in the shoes of an Asian male. I would buy less pasta is my dietory conclusion

    • @chummycharmander962
      @chummycharmander962 Рік тому +1

      And as an Asian, you have a good point. I do envision being a White Male sometimes and imagine eating hot dogs and burgers, but I grew up as Asian and you can't EVER understand what my perspective as an Asian is like.
      Just like Ben said, everyone has a different perspective, and you can't imagine being someone else but someone else can't imagine to be you
