49yr old here. I was actually at this show. BMX was my life. Being from Toledo, OH, only had about 5possible months to shred. We had an amazing trail network where we'd play wicked games of "bike tag".
These are the guys that would come to your elementary school for an assembly demo, leave tire scuffs all over the gym floor, bunny hop a few teachers, and say stuff like, "DON'T POP PILLS -- POP WHEELIES, KIDS." A simpler time indeed.
Wow does this bring back memories. I was there. Grew up in Toledo and hung out at Reggie's bike shop regularly. Got my first haro master there. Flatland was my jam. I was 12 going on 13. Best years ever.
As a 50 year old, the best bit for me being a kid was dreaming of improving my bmx or getting a decent one...CW , GT, HARO, SKYWAYS, ARAYA, diacompe, ukai, tuff neck, the list goes on , the excitement to buy something was beautiful
The long wheelbase and generous head tube angle on these bikes is what caught my attention. Designs in the modern era have gotten much more squat looking. I could only do a fraction of these moves myself, but it was a super fun time to be a kid.
They've come a long way with the geometry and overall specs of these things, I actually bought a new one a year ago after not riding for 25 or so years just to have fun on
I was 16 when this was filmed. As a teenage boy there was nothing bigger than BMX at that time in the 80s. Kids literally could make millions if they got sponsored riding a bicycle.
This is so awesome. 1987 was pretty much the sweet spot year for me with BMX freestyle. I could imagine all those kids in the crowd loving this and going home and getting on their bikes till the sun went down. As simple as those tricks look today, they were tough to get down. I had the magazines with the how-to's and the videos 101 Freestyle Tricks parts 1 and 2! Only ever landed a boomerang and decade once or twice.

Martin always an incredible showman something I would myself borrow when I did my 14 to 15 intermediate flat land routines in central Florida in the AFA in 1988. Saw him and Eddie Fiola Team GT a couple of times and team Dyno, and Dave Volker is a thrasher! He was doing 4 foot wall rides with a small ramp with us locals and broke his forks at PJ Cycle Center Lake Mary in Summer 1988. I see a couple of other 51 year olds on this comment page it's awesome to see us old timer BMXers are out there still, I ride an electric mountain bike that's similar to my 1988 Haro Master I got after my day glo orange 1986 GT Pro Performer, my first real freestyle bike that Martin and Eddie autographed on the down tube.
Wow! This takes me back. I saw them either in 86 or 88. Two different shows though. GT came with Martin Aparijo and Eddie Fiola.. And Dyno came with Dave Voelker and someone else. I had my mom get Eddie's autograph for me. They had a launch ramp too and Dave was flying off that thing.
Martin aparijo 13:29 for a brief time was one the best flatland riders in the world, I was a haro guy, 1984 the haro sport blew me away, next year my parents bought me a haro team sport blue and green . I read my first issue of freestylin magazine I was hooked from that day forward

@@davidpearson6346 the tricks skateboarders and BMX guys are doing now are way more technically difficult than these old tricks.
