Erich Burger Flatland Riding 20 months back on a bike 9 14 22 End of Summer Session
Had a really great session today. Pulled all the tricks i wanted. The cross training is really showing up in my riding. Things are more controlled and I'm rolling longer.
Every session I pick a cpl tricks to focus on, Today was funky chickens and they really started to click for me.
So stoked on that as I never learned scuffing back in the 80s.
Also started coasting my steam rollers.
The Yellow Jackets would not leave me alone!!!
I don't like to kill wildlife but had to put the WWE smack down on one.
And I'm really getting close to Dbl Decades. My hope is that I start pulling them in the next cpl sessions. I would like to pull one off before the end of summer.
Also In 20 months I went from 255lbs to 233 1/2!!! God I love Flatland

I gave myself a challenge today. being that I'm about a year and a half back on a bike. I decided to see if I could pull every trick I've learned since I got back on. Aside from a few tricks that trash my joints Megaspins, Grasshoppers, Rock Walks. I pulled everything but a whiplash. I did pull off a nice rope-a-roni and a better Cherry Picker but the camera battery died. Rick spent most of his...

Martin always an incredible showman something I would myself borrow when I did my 14 to 15 intermediate flat land routines in central Florida in the AFA in 1988. Saw him and Eddie Fiola Team GT a couple of times and team Dyno, and Dave Volker is a thrasher! He was doing 4 foot wall rides with a small ramp with us locals and broke his forks at PJ Cycle Center Lake Mary in Summer 1988. I see a couple of other 51 year olds on this comment page it's awesome to see us old timer BMXers are out there still, I ride an electric mountain bike that's similar to my 1988 Haro Master I got after my day glo orange 1986 GT Pro Performer, my first real freestyle bike that Martin and Eddie autographed on the down tube.

Very awesome video. Love the progression!! I used to do tricks on my 96 Dyno Compe and then 98 Compe until 1998 I got my license.. gearing on flat land trick bikes are different now I see. What bike would you recommend? I still have my Dyno’s…

Well with anything vintage you'll face a few issues, they don't stay dialed, it's pricey to find replacement parts, and depending on their condition and the year and model they can be worth quite a bit. Also, anything pre 2000s' the geometry is pretty suspect for solid riding progression. Although not impossible. But vintage bikes require a ton of maintenance, on and almost daily basis. The new retro designs are pretty awesome. They're dialed and they stay dialed for quite a while. Also, the geometry is pretty awesome on the bikes these days. Haro and GT have both made repops as they call them. That's what I'm riding a 2021 Haro "Lineage" Master. mine is based on the 1988 Master design with a bunch of new design components. from time to time you can find the Haro repops used. Currently, there are two new Haro lineage models, a 2023 ground Master and the Haro 2022 40th anniversary Bob Haro Freestyler based on the original Haro Freestyler. There are complete models available and Frame & Fork sets on FlatlandFuel.com I'm not sure if there are any GT Pro Performers left? That was GT's repop version. Most are sold out. And I know they are currently working on a Hutch Trickstar Repop. Also for some serious $$$ you can drop for the Redline RL20II reissues. These are identical to the originals in every way. More of a collector's bike with their slim dropouts and classic design. Good Luck, I'm still riding and it's awesome.

Well I give you a heads up. From day oneI was doing Yoga, Then I added calisthenics, Then I added 15 lb dumbbell training. I started with very small steps with everything. The first month I only rode for about 15 to 40 minutes. Then realized I needed a solid warm up before riding and I needed to add some muscle. So I started with 5 minute warm ups and only 5 reps of weight training. & I've been progressively eating cleaner. It took me about 6 months to be able to ride into and out of a cherry picker. And any hopping tricks are way harder now. Just because of the cardio involved. For me this was a lifestyle change from the start I was down to do what ever I needed to keep riding and progressing. I only attempted tricks that I felt I was ready for. The head game is crazy at our age. I',ve dropped around 25lbs in 2 years and I now ride 3 to 4 days a week 3 to 4 hour sessions. But you can do it if you want to? You just have to own it. I will say the single biggest factor to my progression was warming up my legs before every session with the stair climb you see at the end. I do that every time I get down there. 1 up 1 down, 2 up 2 down and on and on up to 15 steps. When you feel your legs burning you're good to go. As an older rider you want to break a light sweat over your entire body before you ride or you WILL pull muscles and tear tissue. The one time I didn't warm up first, I pulled my calf muscle and was out for about 5 weeks. That was about 2 months in. I have never skipped the warm up since. Also your legs generate testosterone, So the more you work your legs, the more aggressive you'll be about pulling tricks off. Good luck, Hopefully we get a chance to session together?

Thank you. My wife was thrilled to read this. She has been trying to get me to do yoga for a while now. I would very much like to ride with you guys. ALBES was my candy store. It was such a huge part of my life and never had the means to build the bike I wanted to back then. So now I'm paying 20 times the price lol but very happy to be able to do so. Stay RAD.
