At 6:53, that boss HAS to be inspired by the Chinese Lion Dance. If you look close, you can see a hand reach out and close the jaw of the lion head, and at 7:00 you can see that the body is not multiple animals connected together, but two guys hunched over, one standing on the other's shoulders
It appears like Messmer is wielding Bloodflame, like Mohg, but his armor is extremely reminiscent of the Drake Knight armor set, possibly hinting at some sort of connection to Dragon Communion. At first I thought he was Miquella, with the Bloodflame powers being because of Mohg’s influence, but they seem to not be the same. Unless there are somehow two Miquellas, one who is bodiless and one corrupted by Mohg.
Damn I didn’t think Miquella could be under Mohg’s influence that explains the bloodflame. I definitely think it’s him tho just corrupted like you said or the form he took when he arrived. He did have to discard his body, godly nature and linage to exist in this Shadow Realm
@astercat49 I also agree Melina is the 3rd sibling. I mean it's too much of a coincidence for her not to be. She was born at the foot of the erdtree with her mother inside it, that can only be Marika.

With the first dual wielding character, it looks like they are reverse gripping those swords, so that's something new. Messner is Godwyn’s forgotten/exiled twin. Marika always had twins, but for some reason Godwyn never was one and he was never an Omen. Messner is exiled there for doing something bad in the Lands Between. She didn’t throw him into sewers though because he’s so pretty. Marika went to the shadow lands had twins with that fellow in the portrait. The Tarnished is “bereft of light” according to Messner because he’s no Godwyn which he was forsaken in shadow for. He is possibly the figure Miquella is looking for in the DLC. He wants something of his brother Godwyn who was so kind to him. Unfortunately, it’s Messner. My main problem with this theory is the Impaler moniker. So far, the only massive impaling incident is the mountain top giants, but that’s around the time Marika was speculatively cursed as Radagon by the giants.
I feel like the lion head fight at 6:55 is a twist on the hoarah loux boss fight, more like a death blighted version of the beast Serosh that he suppresses his lust of battle with.Especially with the way it steps forward like the start of the second phase.
It does say that the wondering mausoleums hold the remains of other children Marika had so her having kids that are unknown to the everyone doesn't surprise me. Maybe messemer is her first born ever and she left him in the shadow realm when she went to become the queen of the golden order and that's why he's so mad maybe. Ether way I'm just glad to get more Elden Ring content from this channel :3
That would make sense by his dialouge saying how his mother is with someone that is "bereft" of light, which would make sense if he's talking about Godfrey, maybe the warriors like Godfrey and nepheli are from the land of shadow
Your mention with the frenzied flame, seems to be a point why messmer could be exiled if he got exiled at all. in a few shots his right eye has a yellow glow, much like you yourself after you met the three fingers.
The enemy with the giant lion's head reminds me of the lion dance you often see performed around Chinese New Year. Kinda looks like it could be grafted, or like there could be a warrior or two inside fighting while carrying it, or possibly some combination of both. Like some grafted living weapon that can be worn or carried and used as armor or something. Just some other miscellany: Messmer looks like he's combining a lot of different abilities from a lot of different factions. He seems to have combined himself with serpents in a very different way from Rykard, and based off of the wings, he seems to have done advanced dragon communion. As well, the crimson flames and the thorns coiling around in the palm of his hand connect him to the Bloodstar and Formless Mother, which brings him into assocation with Mohg and the Thorn Sorcerers, which in turn are affiliated with Fire Monks. The Fire Monks have a connection with Fire Giants, as well. So Messmer is looking like a champion of all the great old adversaries of the Golden Order. His spear also vaguely reminds me of the Helphen Steeple, which is a "Greatsword patterned after the black steeple of the Helphen, the lampwood which guides the dead of the spirit world." I'm curious if the twisted, dark tree we see standing in the Erdtree's place is the Helphen, and if so, what that could indicate about this realm of shadow the DLC is set in. This could be the place where the souls or spirits of the demigods laid to rest in each Wandering Mausoleum came to reside.
Damn good theory about the Helphen. Maybe Godwyn’s death bight could causing it to be created. But that doesn’t explain the golden sap in the exposed insides of the twisted Erdtree

I have a weird theory and the theory would be that we will get in the future another DLC because of the pre-order gesture it’s the second Ring gesture we got from a pre-order. We got one to the sky (Main Game) and the other to the right (SotE) the only one that is missing would be the one to the left which would create the Elden Ring PS: we are going to ignore the Ring in the middle
Nah, it’s likely the bastard son of Radagon, and a brother to Miquella. The 3 kids 1 Miquella, Melania and Messmer, all start with the letter M. Also, Miquella’s duel personality is already St Trina which focuses on sleep/purple, of which a lot of sleep references are present in this trailer. Miquella being Messmer is too basic for Fromsoft
The thing about this is that the Land of Shadow is said to be "purged in an unsung battle, set ablaze by Messmer's flame." Miquella has no connection to flame abilities and since we know this is happening at the same time as the events in game, Miquella would not have been able to set an entire hidden realm ablaze. This was one of my first thoughts too, though, that this is Miquella becoming a secret boss after finding out that we killed Malenia, but I don't think it hold up given the strong amount of evidence that Messmer is his own person who's hidden from the Lands Between.
Messmer may possibly have dragon communion connections. Also he may be the lost son of Radagon and Marika, the woman he is talking about as his mother may be Marika. Perhaps they had a falling out
Just noticed now how the cocoon rests upon a tablelike object that is shaped like the pelvis. There's clearly a strong resembles to the ramus. This makes we wonder if the cacoon is surposed to be the uterus.
I hope that completing the DLC gives us a way to save Melina that doesn't turn her into an enemy. I always felt like that should be a possible route. ie perhaps Messmar drops an item that allows us to burn the roots without the kiln and by doing so grants an ending and a new skybox for postgame.
The shield at the end looks like it has blades on both ends; a shielded twinblade? They show a running stab animation which gets cancelled by Mesmer's grab attack. Reminds me of something I remember long ago that celts used to use special bladed shields for duels, so might explain the weird weapon/shield. Very cool though!
Anyone notice that the guy in the painting looks like the same person as the guy with the spiky thing in him? Same face and clasp on the cloak. I'm thinking frenzy, but not sure
We could be going back in time when Miquella was alive(?). Back in time far enough, the Erdtree was still in its Primordial form before the change to base Elden Ring Erdtree, "when all life was blended together." Also explains why Messmer isn't mentioned in base Elden Ring, like the Nameless King of DS3, he "died/disappeared" before the Order was established.
Definitely thinking the dlc takes place in the land of the dead. Miquella gave up his flesh to get there. There are ghostly tomb stones everywhere. That cloth hanging from the tree could symbolize a burial shroud. We know Marika removed the rune of death from the ring, but we don't have too much information on how that went, the line of " unsung war" could be referring to that. Mesmer also reminds me a bit of hades, In that he's the black sheep of the family that the other gods don't talk about.
Whatever this new land is it definitely is still in under the old era before the Golden Order. A lot of beast combinations shown give off age of Dragon Lord Placidusax, a tree before the Erdtree that includes aspects of the Crucible and a Primordial Elden Ring
The color scheme for the butterfly AOE attack reminds me of the bewitching branch from standard game. Maybe they could both be related to Miquella since the bewitching branch mentions him in the description.
my thoughts based on stuff i remember and stuff ive seen other people say. we know Miquella and St Trina are one. Messmer feels like it has connotations of mesmerize. we know Mohg was messing with Miquella. Messmer here seems to use blood flame and his arms are similar to Miquellas in the egg. I think Messmers spear here also has a similar design to Mohgs trident/spear. Lastly we know the Marika/Radagon thing, so i believe this Messmer is a similar split off from Miquella. the snake here like Rykards represents sin, Miquella/Messmers sin of embracing the Formless Mother and turning from Grace and the Erdtree since Miquella is so closely part of the Haligtree.
I'm thinking that the butterfly incantation is actually a Bewitching incantation, cus the coloration is too bright and vibrant to be sleep, but too pink to be scarlet rot.
Ok hear me out for a sec. I think eveyone is wrong about it being mid game DLC. Mohg held Micheullas hand when you first meet him in the main game and it did not seem to tranport him to the shadow realm. My theory is that you have to become the elden lord before that effect happens. Plus you even say he is awaiting his promised elden lord.
The larger NPC by the pot has armor that made me instantly think of havel. So I hope this means we get an armor set that trumps the bull goat set. Also the fact he is near a pot/jar and in elden ring it the jar shard that increases equip load where in past games it was havels ring.
I was quite surprised with the positive reception. I thought more people would be frustrated that after 2 years we still have to wait a few months for the dlc. I expected the release to be a few weeks out at most. I also didn't think anyone still cares about the story 2 years later.
Brilliant video. How is that slug creature's grab attack considered a command grab though? That's an FGC thing when you can universally grab, but a character has a unique command grab (that can't be blocked) and is input using a series of directions and a button (or "command") as opposed to however a normal grab is input.
I think Mesmer is more the meaning hypnotic or irresistible attraction. Almost like the tarnished themself...red hair, a spear that looks like the Mohg, snakes like the Rykard, a helm like Malenia, unsure about the bat wings, , The magic he uses seems to be darkness first, then blood, then fire, and then radiant magic inside the flame, ending in what seems to be madness like burning the erdtree...but he seems to mimic them all in some way in power? Maybe he has been banished for the use of all great runes at once, and he was sealed away? And the lion person thing, it looks like a person wearing an animal skin to me at least like a costume. the mouth and eyes make me think it how sunken in the eyes are from the animal eye slits. Maybe a disfigured individual wearing a costume, hitting half HP they cast away the costume and show themselves and use magic?
The lady on the throne at 4:29 looks like a young Renalla @ the academy. And this Messner character definitely has Malenias hair, but with the snake symbol may he be a child if Rykard??
Miquella divulged himself of his flesh to get to the land of shadow kinda like Rani. This I'd expect that ge left behind his great rune and his ties to the two finger which might also include his eternal youth ability. Maybe miquella planned to be kidnapped by Mohg
My mind is whirling with possible theories and going rabid just as much as the other theorists are. For one, I'm actually noticing a theme with a majority of these bosses or enemies having horns and its got me thinking; Are we going to be encountering more omens? Are the Land of the Shadows where they have been banished? Was Messmir banished because he held the flame on par to or gifted/cursed by the Fell God (Thinking of the Giant's flame) that automatically marked him as a threat to The Order? Along with that, Messmir's ideals seem similar to that of Morgott the Omen King (Not wanting a tarnished to succeed), so I'm wondering if the two were allies along with being siblings. I feel its the case since Messmir is seen sitting in what looked to be Morgott's seat, and possibly Messmir being an Omen himself. I also wonder if he had a hand of influence in Rykard's upbringing, as a younger sibling looks up to and older one. I think this since Rykard has an affinity to serpents, fire, and insisting that his crew are on par of that of family. Oooo so many questions! I cant wait!!!!
Hello mates, here is TWO Secrets you´ve MISSED! At 3:05, the shot where you see the whole erdtree and the city, if you look closely at the bottom of the highest tower in the center youll see a glowing red dot standing on the ground level. Might this be the burning cage boss we fight later on? ALSO! This blew my mind! you know that Miquela (spelling) also has a glowing white/golden thing going on? well look at the bottom at the Erdtree? See that white glow? "MIND-BLOWN" // Babou aka Bhagera ;)
So no one is going to talk about the back handspring dodge the character makes in the clip of the fight against Messemer? No one gonna talk about the OG Dark Souls 1 Wood Grain Ring Back Handspring ANIMATION!?!?!?!?!? C'mon MAAAAAN! lol
I wonder if the guy with the heavy armor set is the same knight you fought in dark souls 3? I can’t remember his name but he was really tough and you fought him on the nameless knight stage. I forgot what weapon he dropped but I remember that he was harder than I would have liked.
Boy, I sure hope that lion boss doesn't have a second stage where it's revealed to be two enemies, and now you have to fight both of them, that would be just terrible and I definitely don't want that to happen
1 is this an "opposite" realm or a remnant (beside) world. 2 is messmer not Michela but fed by omen or mohgs gods blood instead of his original source? 3 is rikard involved in this trailer in any way?
Looks tied to the miquellas golden shadows eclipse stuff. Miquellas Lilly are near the enemies who are grafted with that gold shadow.Cause gotta be links to the omen cursed blood the lion has omen horns everywhere so maybe miquella open up an elder god he had to keep trapped or something when looking around the lands between looking for magic and incantations to equalize the influence of outer gods he messed with tampered with any power he could bend to his needs. Maybe he did the ranni kill yourself to lose host status for elder god influence and did some dream shit. Fuck I just want more miquella stuff 😢
I’m really hoping the blonde loin guy is godwyn, that death breath and gold lightning makes me suspicious! Also the smouldering butterflies are for Messmar??
I completely disagree that this dlc takes place BEFORE the ending of the game, due to the fact on the website it says that Miquella awaits a “Lord” therefore implying that u most likely hv already achieved lordship at this point in the game cause ur going to see Miquella.
I know some people have already made a likness to the boss at 7 minutes in looking like a Chinese Dragon. But the DLC is also being released in the Chinese year of the Dragon. Is there more to this perhaps?
Maybe this Melania's true twin and Miquella is her favorite becasue he is the youngest and purest demigod or..... messemer is the result of mohg taking miquella and his dream became the shadow realm once the cocoon was cracked

I hope that completing the DLC gives us a way to save Melina that doesn't turn her into an enemy. I always felt like that should be a possible route. ie perhaps Messmar drops an item that allows us to burn the roots without the kiln and by doing so grants an ending and a new skybox for postgame.
So... The Land of Shadow, The Land Between, and...The Land of Light? 2nd DLC coming?
The shield at the end looks like it has blades on both ends; a shielded twinblade? They show a running stab animation which gets cancelled by Mesmer's grab attack.
Reminds me of something I remember long ago that celts used to use special bladed shields for duels, so might explain the weird weapon/shield. Very cool though!
Anyone notice that the guy in the painting looks like the same person as the guy with the spiky thing in him? Same face and clasp on the cloak. I'm thinking frenzy, but not sure
Now that you mention it yeah dude that’s a great theory
The thrown daggers look to be weapons they were using; a paired dagger weapon and that's it's ash of war.
swamp of insta-death!? Those black smoke with a glint of yellow remind me of bad time...
the floating castle looks like castkevania
That purple are incantation is probably a Miquella spell. Looks similar to bewitching branch item
I'm thinking that the butterfly incantation is actually a Bewitching incantation, cus the coloration is too bright and vibrant to be sleep, but too pink to be scarlet rot.
It's St. Trina version of Scarlet Aeonia
@@eurongreyjoy2 Bewitching Aeonia
It looks less like the frenzy flame and more like the Briar Spells and the flame monks who blind themselves with thorns
The snakes around him reminds me a lot of Rykard. Wondering if they are connected somehow
I was quite surprised with the positive reception. I thought more people would be frustrated that after 2 years we still have to wait a few months for the dlc.
I expected the release to be a few weeks out at most.
I also didn't think anyone still cares about the story 2 years later.
the lady in blue could be a nox or someone related to the giant skeletons in the underground.
I’m loving the lore of all this already. Messemer and Ranni I’m guessing are half siblings.
That is if he's radagons son
@@timezthecollector6559 I mean the hair is very telling
Too bad Messmer had no line in a single item in elden ring. No hint. Not eaven a "Marika secret" int. So i am scared Messmer is brainwashed Miquella
I hope the large knight in armour with the pot, is infact a jar and it's Alexander in his prime
***MAN AMAZING BREAKDOWN, killer job now im like the most educated person in LA on shadow if erdtree and it feels pretty nice. Ngl
The lady on the throne at 4:29 looks like a young Renalla @ the academy. And this Messner character definitely has Malenias hair, but with the snake symbol may he be a child if Rykard??
Miquella's cocoon arm reminds me of Messmer in a way...
Maybe the snake is co sider a traitor to the erdtree due to Mesmer's actions?
Im sure he isnt in that shadow land for being a nice fellow.
For one, I'm actually noticing a theme with a majority of these bosses or enemies having horns and its got me thinking;
Are we going to be encountering more omens?
Just finished my dragon playthrough. I can't wait for this! Elden Ring is so damn good.
We are back baby
Hello mates, here is TWO Secrets you´ve MISSED! At 3:05, the shot where you see the whole erdtree and the city, if you look closely at the bottom of the highest tower in the center youll see a glowing red dot standing on the ground level. Might this be the burning cage boss we fight later on?
ALSO! This blew my mind! you know that Miquela (spelling) also has a glowing white/golden thing going on? well look at the bottom at the Erdtree? See that white glow? "MIND-BLOWN" // Babou aka Bhagera ;)
I wish i could just sleep and wake up when it comes out
Messmers attack looks a lot like Malikets jump
So no one is going to talk about the back handspring dodge the character makes in the clip of the fight against Messemer? No one gonna talk about the OG Dark Souls 1 Wood Grain Ring Back Handspring ANIMATION!?!?!?!?!? C'mon MAAAAAN! lol
The animal combo boss reminds me of the lion dragon puppets that you usually see in Chinese new year parade’s that have multiple people inside
"Not tied to dragons?" Have you seen the short that vaati made?
That grafted monster looks like a giant Misbegotten, maybe a Misbegotten king.
Welcome back 😊
I love Elden ring even though I’m not very good at it. Really excited for this DLC!
Well we are seemingly getting more crucible incantations so thats great.
Death blight swamp when
Your decomposing horse/man enemy looks like a nucklavee from Scottish folklore.

This image gave me shountucker vibes. If you know you know.
😢
Is this a pre-orderedable ad on
Did anyone see the hat the Kung Fu guy was wearing I WANT IT
Honestly I'm just happy to see Xbox One is getting the DLC. Would have been really upset if they didn't give support to that.
This was my first fromsoft game, how big can we expect the dlc?
Bigger than Limgrave, with an underground area.
That lion is a costume...
Is this only for ps5 or also for ps4?
I know some people have already made a likness to the boss at 7 minutes in looking like a Chinese Dragon. But the DLC is also being released in the Chinese year of the Dragon. Is there more to this perhaps?
Plus the NPC accents have shifted. I heard English and Irish, no Welsh and the female voice at the end sounds like Melina
Maybe this Melania's true twin and Miquella is her favorite becasue he is the youngest and purest demigod or..... messemer is the result of mohg taking miquella and his dream became the shadow realm once the cocoon was cracked
Messmer is Bloodcursed Miquella
It looks so good!!!!!
hype !! Thats everything I wll say for now.
