Genuinely from everything Ive read about LF and TFS's development, it really seems like they started work on the TFS story with their A team and left Lightfall to dry. They've stated how TFS's story development has the largest writing room they've ever done and that they're putting a ton of effort into the story (something they never said about LF lol) so I can only conclude they decided LF was a lost cause and started work on the final shape
The Destiny universe has always had so much potential, and now that adaptations are all the rage right now, it’d be a waste not to bring some part of it to screen.
@@fraserduffy4576 Oh god, please no. Halo, Wheel of Time, Rings of Power, Blood Origins, the list goes on. Live-action adaptations are just doomed to fail. Every once in a blue moon, we get something like Game of Thrones seasons 1-4, but for that, there are 10 that flop. All Hollywood cares about is wokeness, inclusivity and stubbornly changing existing stories for the sake of change and in the process, they lose the identity of whatever they try to "adapt" entirely. I'd rather just not risk it, especially after Halo

The cutscene really showed how angry Eramis is at the traveler. Eramis does not care about the goals of the witness, rather it just wants what has caused her so much pain destroyed. Well done.

That seems to be how the witness operates. It doesn't get you to join it's cause because it has some moral high ground. Rather, it acts like it's helping you get what you think you want. With the Hive, it showed them visions of the syzygy, and granted them the power to survive and take vengeance on those who had wronged them, then further extending that to the traveler, since doing so helps the witness to destroy the light. It helped rhulk to destroy the oppressive government of his home planet, in exchange for rhulks undying loyalty. It promised Calus that he would be the one to see all the universe has to offer, to be the last one living in it. We can even see this in the way that the witness outfits its disciples. Despite having them all adopt the usage of pyramid technology, it seems to be very lenient on how the disciples express themselves through it. Rhulk is vain, and his pyramid is essentially a museum of all his accomplishments. Calus' ship literally has his face plastered on it, front and center, and beyond that, looks completely different to any of the other darkness ships. All this seems to help maintain the idea that the disciples have control of themselves, and are doing what they do not because the witness tells them to, but because they want to. And this is exactly the illusion that the witness wants to portray. It's an infamously manipulative entity, that lies coldly to its followers in order to move them, as if pieces on a board. It doesn't care for them, but the easiest way to keep them in line is to convince them that they are serving themselves, rather than the witness.
@@elitegamer9310 You're absolutely right, but it's also clear that Eramis isn't thinking in the most logical way. She's emotionally a slave to her grief. Think of it this way, if some big savior type came to your planet and offered you everything you ever wanted, but inadvertently dragged you into a war that it knew was following it, and then abandoned you to the consequences, there's definitely a reason to be pissed off at that "savior." The witness probably just manipulated Eramis into believing that it was *solely* the travelers fault, so that she would work in its favor.
I think it's true, we've never been outside the milky way, because there's nothing, just darkness. I believe after the light and dark saga we'll see beyond the milky way
Everything about this cutscene was incredible. The City watching in fear as the Traveler took off. Misraaks begging Eramis not to do this, while she wavers between listening to him and obeying the Witness. Ana’s final moment with Rasputin, and Elsie showing up to comfort her after. And the Witness’ ominous threat at the end. The icing on cake was the call back to the original Destiny poster at 3:27. This was absolutely beautiful.
That moment in the cutscene where the traveler is suspended over Earth is very nostalgic. I was always wondering when it would happen, and it finally did.
Arguably the best seasonal story being immediately followed by the worst expansion story is just the perfect summary of the Destiny Franchise as a whole.
Far Cry 3 Vass' "Definition of Insanity". Release an underwhelming game, try to fix it with mediocre, small, low quality DLCs, fix it with large, high quality DLC, repeat. They did it with D1 Vanilla, Dark Below, House of Wolves and Taken King. They did it again with D2 Vanilla, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken. And again with Beyond Light and its seasons (Arrivals is considered to be peak of D2) and Witch Queen. And once again with Lightfall. Reinstalled the game after this cutscene. After Lightfall campaign deleted it from disc and dropped the game forever. Witch Queen and this cutscene were the last pieces I enjoyed without a doubt. I can't give my time to the company that much insane and out of touch with reality. At least I've got Halo MCC and Mass Effect to play now.
I wouldn't say the worst expansion, Osiris' expansion is probably my least favorite or shadow keep. Was Lightfall perfect, no but it wasn't bad either. Especially on Veteran difficulty it was actually really fun and I felt like the story was good, just a little to rushed if the story had been longer it would have been better. I'm just hoping Final Shape sends the Light and Dark saga out with a bang otherwise I think Bungie is done.
@@PlebNC its meant to imply that the Witness has placed Pyramid ships everywhere so there's no where for the Traveler to run. It's a chess game and Witness pretty much put the ball in check
You know, when you think about it, that's the creepiest part. She turns around, like she's expecting to see it standing behind her... ...but there's nothing. The Witness isn't physically there, but it can see her nonetheless. Once it has its hooks in you, there's no getting out.
Fr. That was one of the first things I noticed; the Rasputin exo model that was used looks like it is of much higher quality compared to the scenes of Zavala and the Tower.
From what we know so far, only Eramis, Varicks, and the retired devil Kell are the last remaining witnesses (heh) of the first whirlwind. Misraaks and Spider were born during the long journey and Eido was born at the end of the Reef Wars.
We’ve had bits of lore from her perspective previously. Unlikely she was actually leaving, but rather trying to distance from the city to avoid collateral damage. The Whirlwind was her screwing up and staying with the Eliksni too long basically because she was lonely. Then when the attack came, she left knowing she was the target and hoping the Eliksni would be spared. Which didn’t work, so she wouldn’t bother again; even if she did intend to run, she’d have already done so knowing the Black Fleet is already around. There IS nowhere to run, but that’s been the case since Arrivals.
@@nate_venture It ran from Civilization to Civilization. The books of sorrow prove this. It ran from the hive on Fundament, and from the civilization that had the (Light Mast? The blackhole thing) It has been running till it finally reached Sol, and this time it stayed. The D1 cutscene with the Speaker explaining what the traveler had done in out system shows the Darkness coming in from all sides. I think the Traveler made a mistake and could not escape the Darkness, so it in turn decided to defend humanity, so that humanity could then defend it.
At the end of the day, if the Traveler is the Gardener as many think it is, then the Traveler isn't so much abandoning as it is retreating. Can't exactly save the universe when its dead, even if it hurts to leave.
What do you mean “stuck with us now”? They didn’t do anything to it. It wasn’t going to flee. It was clearly moving into position for our final stand against the black fleet. If it was going to flee it would have the warsats didn’t fire.
You can really feel how significant this cutscene really is. The pieces are in place, the stage is set, the orchestra are at the ready and now it's... showtime!
I coke back to this comment to give my own take.The traveler doesn't stay out if bravery but rather out of desperation. Given the opportunity,it would have left all of us and likely found another race.

This whole cutscene made me shed a tear. I could feel the pain as Ana cut the cord on Rasputin. I could feel the pain as Eramis realized that the witness has tricked her. The raw emotions was all over the place. For a second I thought the traveler was going to leave. Then the witnesses came to town and that changed everything. Bungie please let this be the start of even more awesome cinematics.

YEAH! i was looking it over and was like "oh shit whats that big flat thing?? OH SHIT" like how you can really see the scale of the pyramids from this too. we know that calus's barge is HUGE from how it eclipses neomuna, and to see it tiny compared to all the other pyramids is really terrifying

@@daltontodd3886 I guess he still haven't been fully a disciple before Lightfall and will only turn into one when Lightfall begins. Technically Eramis too is a disciple yet she doesn't have a pyramid either. I've thought of the Pyramids being controlled by the Witness' voices and the Disciple-owned pyramid ships are simply treasure troves like in Rhulks case.
This was an oddly fitting upload on Valentine's Day, actually... one can see all forms of love play out in this finale. The love Ana had for Rasputin, and the love Rasputin had for both Ana and humanity to be so willing to sacrifice himself. The love that humanity has had for the Traveler for centuries. The twisted love for Riis and the Eliksni/Fallen that still motivates Eramis to take revenge on the Traveler. The sisterly love between Ana and Elsie. The couple's love between Saint and Osiris as they held each other steady in the face of their worst fears. The brotherhood between humanity, Cabal, and Eliksni, driven to protect one another in the face of a hopelessly powerful enemy. And arguably the most important, the seeming answer to the question of "Does the Traveler truly treasure humanity enough to stay and defend us against the coming Darkness?" This may just be me being pedantic, but that's just something I thought of during the finale cutscene.

I really think love is one of the core themes of Destiny 2, particularly over the last couple years. It's choosing to care, to stand together against overwhelming odds. Like you point out its all forms of love- even if we lose we as the Coalition choose to do so together rather than alone in the dark. We're not fighting for the sake of fighting anymore, we have so much worth fighting for.
The Eramis fight leading up to this was pretty epic. I was pretty let down by Eramis in plunder and in Beyond Light, but this little fight we had where she herself came to fight us actually felt like she was our rival, like a reoccurring boss that has beef with us specifically. It’s super cool, and I hope she keeps appearing for us.
I thought we finally were gonna clip her for good this time. But Bungie just keeps dragging her along. However we get clear indication what her beef with the Traveler is and that she has a STRONG alliance with Xivu. House Salvation and Xivu's forces along with Scorn and Darkness(Calus) are pretty formidable threat for once.
@@changhee95 Not completely sure shes a Lost cause. She hesitated to pull the key, Only did It when she realized the Witness was spying her on the monitor reflection. Which might mean the Witness or part of It somehow is inside her to monitor her. When you do the heists after the cinematic shes pleading for us to give Up so Its a quick end to spare suffering. The fact the Traveller didnt flee just breaks her mind even more because its nothing she expected. I think shes going to sacrifice herself eventually.
The talk we had after this finished made me cry a little after being called a Seraph, being how it was my first title and the first time after a while I've ever been invested ever since season of the lost
My favourite things about this cutscene: All of it. Jokes aside, I LOVED the callback to Destiny 1 with the Guardian Fireteam behind Zavala each wearing OG D1 armour for their class, the recreation of the original Destiny 1 wallpaper/cover art with lighting an everything. Also, the MUSIC and storyline here. Rasputin sacrifices himself, the Witness watching Eramis, Anna’s heartbreak and final conversation with Rasputin as was her first conversation with him, and finally Elsie and Anna huggin’ it out which is long overdue. Well done Bungie. Goosebumps and major emotions here.

You know, I think not only was the Traveler moving to a position for its last stand against the Black Fleet, but it was moving out of the way from the Last City in case Rasputin failed to stop Eramis from blowing up the Traveler. Not only a strategic move, but a considerate move to make sure innocent people didn't die because of Eramis' vendetta.
Yes, you're exactly right. Dope to see folks who clearly understand the story well enough to see what's going on. It wasn't planning to run, if it wanted to, it would've used its version of Blink, which is what we saw it use when it left Savathun's Throne World. It was trying to defend the City and now it's remaining in orbit, likely as a position of defense of the City now that the Witness is closing in.
Good point. I also believe this is the final positional or at least, a guarding one...This is a stretch, but what if we need to recover this 'Veil' from Neomuna so the traveler can use it to protect earth? :)
In my head I can't help but see an additional side to it. Eramis effectively had a gun to it's face. The Traveler effectively walked up to her in a mixed gesture of suicidal despair and "Leave them out of this." It staying in orbit and not returning to the City could also be this. That or a defiant "Come and get me."
You’ve got to wonder how his mental state is, given his potential savior complex relating to the Traveler because of the events of the Hawkmoon quest, and now watching it almost leave. But yeah, it’s a very Hunter vanguard thing for him to do. Hoping my boy is able to make the seat and do us all proud.
I think this must be the best cutscene Bungie has ever made. The Traveller wants to flee, Rasputin is gone and the Darkness is approaching faster than ever. Lightfall is going to be the most impressive expansion there is.
Man, Destiny could absolutely succeed with a TV show fully animated like this. Everything about this cutscene was beautiful. 2:20 specifically was breathtaking with audio, visuals and narrative all meeting a climax. Thanks so much Bungie for making one of my favorite forms of entertainment
Yeah and with how Sony made sure to handle last of us I think since they own bungie they will gladly make sure it’s as accurate as the game as possible.
I doubt that calus probably the witnesses ship. I don't see calus would have a pyramid ship when he isn't a disciple of the witness yet. Also why would calus have a different shape of ship when all disciples all have a pyramid ship
This makes you really look at how music selection and background make a difference in a cutscene. The morose music with hopeful undertones gives the idea that rasputin is at peace with his decision, and that the only one hurt would be himself, and ana. In the background, you see the colors fade and lights go dark. you feel Red's presence leave the frame. such a beautiful, heartwrenching scene bungie.
Moment of silence for every guardian who didn’t make it here to see this. To the ones we lost on this journey. As we dive into the apex of the light and darkness saga let us not forget the friends who didn’t make it too see how this story ends, to see the face behind the darkness. To see guardians, eliksni, cabal and even crow look up at the traveler as friends and allies in the last city. We know your up there with cayde cheering us on as we face the start of our end.
@@zanesnep well i mean if youve been playing for as long as i have. ive been playing this since i was a kid and im now 20 years old the game has been a massive part of my life so yeah i definitely get emotional when a big story beat happens
You know, there’s a sort of beautiful finality feeling to this. The Traveller actually moving(whether to run or take a final stand against the Witness), all of the characters we’ve come to know and love preparing for the end, it’s an almost hauntingly comforting thing. I cant exactly explain it. I know we still have The Final Shape after this, but it really feels like we’re reaching the end. For many of us, we started playing Destiny since the alpha back in 2014. Fast forward almost 9 years later and it’s crazy that Destiny has come this far. Destiny has never once made me feel emotional until this point. Almost 10 years this game has been a part of my life. It’s crazy to think about.
That's what I have with Halo. It's my favorite franchise in the world, but with how terribly mismanaged it is, I've been playing Destiny 2 more and more. Been playing since D1's launch, but I've never been so invested in the franchise as I am now. Still a lot of lore and seasonal stuff I don't know about, but I'm actually more excited avout Destiny's future than I am Halo's. Bubgie was right to jump ship in the long run because Destiny is flourishing while Halo is in the gutter
Everyone is talking about this cutscene imitating the d1 cover art, but no one is talking about how Eido pointing to the traveller mimics Eramis in the Whirlwind cutscene.
One of the better endings in quite a while. Somehow more emotional impact knowing that all we know from D1 and D2 is about to end in some way. Just having the Traveler rise again after being over the city for all these years is massive and feels so...surreal. 100% this is leading to a battle over Earth (well we've seen that in the Lightfall trailers), we realize we can't win and flee to Neptune.
Fantastic how we see all four seasons of The Witch Queen represented here. - Season of the Risen: Valus Forge and Empress Caiatl, standing watch above the Earth - Season of the Haunted: Crow and Zavala. (Shame Eris wasn't here) - Season of Plunder: Eido and Mithrax amongst the people in the Eliksni Quarter. Eramis at the centre of it all. - Season of the Seraph: Ana killing Rasputin. Elsie comforting her. The Warsats being destroyed.
I'm pissed off that Lord Saladin or valus forge has to be stuck with the cabal. I know he likes it there but fuck, I can tell Saladin wants to be there with the people and the traveler in the city instead of being on a ship as he watches it leave.
I was thinking to myself, that after seeing Cayde-6 die, i wasn't thinking i was gonna cry again after that cutscene. But HOLY SHIT this made me tear up. Even though we only got know Rasputin for most of this season compared to the other times where he's been relevant to the story, it's just heartbreaking to see him have no other option than sacrifice himself for humanity. The relationship between him and Ana was certainly special. The emotion and actions Ana showed really makes the cutscene just the more sadder. The hug from Elsie was what really made me cry after witnessing Ana shutdown Rasputin in the last moments before Eramis' plan had worked. This season was certainly the best for me in my opinion. I have never felt that more engagded in the Destiny story than ever before. Props to you Bungie. Now we have these last 14 days to prepare for what's to come in Lightfall. Get ready Guardians!
@@no4172how? When a game builds connections between the player and characters it can certainly get sad. It’s the same as crying over a film, both are mediums for viewers and players to connect with and resonate with.

Crow’s connection to the word “scourge” is way bigger than people realize, hence him being on top of the Schnell building. There is no way Bungie didn’t intend for that connection
Fantastic cutscene, fantastic end to the seasonal story. The through line of “more than a weapon” was beautiful, and Rasputin’s sacrifice hit me much harder than I was expecting. Well done Bungie!
2:46 "Devotion inspires bravery, bravery inspires sacrifice, sacrifice leads to death." Anna sacrificed her most precious creation, and Rasputin sacrificed his life for something greater. I can imagine him coming back as a guardian.
The best cutscene this game has produced I was on the edge of my seat till the end and the black fleet arriving with the witness was amazing and if you look at 0:40 the hunter warlock and Titan are the original 3 from destiny1 box cover at least the Titan is
They are not the same ones as those on the box art. The Helmet on the warlock, the Sholderpad for the Titan, and the Cloak for the hunter, from what I could see, dont match. That being said, they could be in reference to the Original three.
The fact that the Traveler being in orbit was a callback to the original Destiny 1 cover art is incredible. This really is the beginning of the end, and we've been heading towards it full speed this whole time

@soulsurvivor8293 PLEASE KEEP TALKING. Seriously. That is an amazing idea I didn't even consider. Though, how will we know Rasputin will be a Warlock? For Felwinter, it would make sense. As the Siddhartha Golem's purpose was to act as Rasputin's proxy, and learn what it was like to live amongst those he was protecting. Almost like a scholar studying abroad. However. I would argue that for Red's class. He would make a great Titan. Afterall. He was humanity's greatest protector.
the traveler doesnt stand a chance on its own. It uses dead people to fight back. This DLC will reveal how neutral the traveler is, similar to the darkness.
@@ncpolley People held onto the 'Rasputin shot the Traveller!' lore even after repeatedly being told that he didn't for years. It took literal word-of-god for that to misinterpretation of old lore to be put to rest. So I can't really be surprised when people keep going on about how the Traveler is Neutral/Evil when we, once again, have pretty damn clear information, from the Traveler's own mouth no less, about its goals and intent. Some folks just don't read the lore and get everything from hyper-speculative youtube videos.
Something feels off about the reason why the traveler flees from all the other places but remains here on earth. Is it because we defended the traveler when others have not?

I was so ready for Eramis to actually succeed, to actually kill the Traveler. I can't tell what scares me more, the thought of the Traveler being killed, or the thought that it has no where left to run.
The emotions I felt seeing the being that I've killed for, and protected, and died countless times for, lift and "leave". I fell so abandoned. You can I understood in that moment how erimis and all the world's before would have felt. It was very touching
@@DarkestFates only according to the Witness, and in response to Eramis questions. I think it's more likely the Traveler moved because A) it's a stand against the pyramid fleet, and B) in case the warsats did go off, it didn't want the city to get zapped. We won't know until we get a piece of lore confirming why.
@@DarkestFates In the Dark Future lore tabs where it covers the future where Elsie was previously in, it was directly stated that the Traveler did run away. Meaning that the Witness is most likely wrong in his assessment of "no where to go"
It isn't leaving. It was moving to a more strategic defensive position, and probably also to keep collateral damage to a minimum in case the warsats weren't stopped

@@Set451 there's a good reason why it probably wasn't ready to leave. The warsats could have killed everyone in the city due to the debris after, which is a potential reason. It stopped, now in Earth's orbit. There's a long standing theory that the traveller wasn't fleeing to try and survive, but that it is the last of the travellers and was trying to find a race to fight the witness
@@Set451 My theory is the real reason why it stopped and haven't gone back is because if the Witness catches him in the City instead of in low orbit then likely the entirety of the Last City would have been destroyed
This was a great end to the season. After this i just stood in the tower looking at the empty sky. Actually felt something with the traveller not being there for the first time.
So to explain, the Traveler isn’t moving to flee. It’s moving to prepare… It’s backed in a corner, so it’s moving forward to distance any damage to the Last City and to take the fight towards the Darkness.
We complain but we also compliment, this ending was just perfect, I've never felt soo invested with a cutscene in destiny like this before, the tone, the sad soundtrack, the parallels with d1, the witness at the end You guys nailed it

Feels like the end of an era. Rasputin was one of the last vestiges of the old Destiny. More emotional than expected. The witness in the monitor was an excellently sinister touch
Yeah. Like I and others have said, you can see how Eramis turns around, like she's expecting to see the Witness behind her, but there was just an empty control room. It wasn't physically there, but it didn't need to be. Once its hooks are in you, it will never let go.
What a phenomenal ending to a season and a year. Storytelling in this game has come so far. I love the weekly story bits, and this cinematic and that final mission made it feel all worth it. So awesome

They've stated how TFS's story development has the largest writing room they've ever done and that they're putting a ton of effort into the story (something they never said about LF lol) so I can only conclude they decided LF was a lost cause and started work on the final shape

The cutscene really showed how angry Eramis is at the traveler. Eramis does not care about the goals of the witness, rather it just wants what has caused her so much pain destroyed. Well done.

@@elitegamer9310 I think this is the breaking point for Eramis, hopefully breaking through her rage and making her realize that the Witness has been using her.
That seems to be how the witness operates. It doesn't get you to join it's cause because it has some moral high ground. Rather, it acts like it's helping you get what you think you want.
With the Hive, it showed them visions of the syzygy, and granted them the power to survive and take vengeance on those who had wronged them, then further extending that to the traveler, since doing so helps the witness to destroy the light.
It helped rhulk to destroy the oppressive government of his home planet, in exchange for rhulks undying loyalty.
It promised Calus that he would be the one to see all the universe has to offer, to be the last one living in it.
We can even see this in the way that the witness outfits its disciples. Despite having them all adopt the usage of pyramid technology, it seems to be very lenient on how the disciples express themselves through it. Rhulk is vain, and his pyramid is essentially a museum of all his accomplishments. Calus' ship literally has his face plastered on it, front and center, and beyond that, looks completely different to any of the other darkness ships.
All this seems to help maintain the idea that the disciples have control of themselves, and are doing what they do not because the witness tells them to, but because they want to. And this is exactly the illusion that the witness wants to portray. It's an infamously manipulative entity, that lies coldly to its followers in order to move them, as if pieces on a board. It doesn't care for them, but the easiest way to keep them in line is to convince them that they are serving themselves, rather than the witness.
@@elitegamer9310 You're absolutely right, but it's also clear that Eramis isn't thinking in the most logical way. She's emotionally a slave to her grief.
Think of it this way, if some big savior type came to your planet and offered you everything you ever wanted, but inadvertently dragged you into a war that it knew was following it, and then abandoned you to the consequences, there's definitely a reason to be pissed off at that "savior." The witness probably just manipulated Eramis into believing that it was *solely* the travelers fault, so that she would work in its favor.
It’s also clear that she cares more about her revenge than her own people.

Everything about this cutscene was incredible. The City watching in fear as the Traveler took off. Misraaks begging Eramis not to do this, while she wavers between listening to him and obeying the Witness. Ana’s final moment with Rasputin, and Elsie showing up to comfort her after. And the Witness’ ominous threat at the end.
The icing on cake was the call back to the original Destiny poster at 3:27. This was absolutely beautiful.

Arguably the best seasonal story being immediately followed by the worst expansion story is just the perfect summary of the Destiny Franchise as a whole.
Far Cry 3 Vass' "Definition of Insanity". Release an underwhelming game, try to fix it with mediocre, small, low quality DLCs, fix it with large, high quality DLC, repeat.
They did it with D1 Vanilla, Dark Below, House of Wolves and Taken King.
They did it again with D2 Vanilla, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken.
And again with Beyond Light and its seasons (Arrivals is considered to be peak of D2) and Witch Queen.
And once again with Lightfall.
Reinstalled the game after this cutscene. After Lightfall campaign deleted it from disc and dropped the game forever. Witch Queen and this cutscene were the last pieces I enjoyed without a doubt. I can't give my time to the company that much insane and out of touch with reality. At least I've got Halo MCC and Mass Effect to play now.

I wouldn't say the worst expansion, Osiris' expansion is probably my least favorite or shadow keep. Was Lightfall perfect, no but it wasn't bad either. Especially on Veteran difficulty it was actually really fun and I felt like the story was good, just a little to rushed if the story had been longer it would have been better. I'm just hoping Final Shape sends the Light and Dark saga out with a bang otherwise I think Bungie is done.

Yeah, you're stuck with us now, Traveler. Imagine how the Eliksni felt watching it try to leave a SECOND TIME.
From what we know so far, only Eramis, Varicks, and the retired devil Kell are the last remaining witnesses (heh) of the first whirlwind. Misraaks and Spider were born during the long journey and Eido was born at the end of the Reef Wars.
We’ve had bits of lore from her perspective previously. Unlikely she was actually leaving, but rather trying to distance from the city to avoid collateral damage.
The Whirlwind was her screwing up and staying with the Eliksni too long basically because she was lonely. Then when the attack came, she left knowing she was the target and hoping the Eliksni would be spared. Which didn’t work, so she wouldn’t bother again; even if she did intend to run, she’d have already done so knowing the Black Fleet is already around. There IS nowhere to run, but that’s been the case since Arrivals.
@@nate_venture It ran from Civilization to Civilization. The books of sorrow prove this. It ran from the hive on Fundament, and from the civilization that had the (Light Mast? The blackhole thing) It has been running till it finally reached Sol, and this time it stayed. The D1 cutscene with the Speaker explaining what the traveler had done in out system shows the Darkness coming in from all sides. I think the Traveler made a mistake and could not escape the Darkness, so it in turn decided to defend humanity, so that humanity could then defend it.
At the end of the day, if the Traveler is the Gardener as many think it is, then the Traveler isn't so much abandoning as it is retreating. Can't exactly save the universe when its dead, even if it hurts to leave.
What do you mean “stuck with us now”? They didn’t do anything to it. It wasn’t going to flee. It was clearly moving into position for our final stand against the black fleet. If it was going to flee it would have the warsats didn’t fire.
You can really feel how significant this cutscene really is. The pieces are in place, the stage is set, the orchestra are at the ready and now it's... showtime!
Yeah, get ready for it to be drip fed to you for the next 12 months...

This whole cutscene made me shed a tear. I could feel the pain as Ana cut the cord on Rasputin. I could feel the pain as Eramis realized that the witness has tricked her.
The raw emotions was all over the place. For a second I thought the traveler was going to leave. Then the witnesses came to town and that changed everything.
Bungie please let this be the start of even more awesome cinematics.

This was an oddly fitting upload on Valentine's Day, actually... one can see all forms of love play out in this finale. The love Ana had for Rasputin, and the love Rasputin had for both Ana and humanity to be so willing to sacrifice himself. The love that humanity has had for the Traveler for centuries. The twisted love for Riis and the Eliksni/Fallen that still motivates Eramis to take revenge on the Traveler. The sisterly love between Ana and Elsie. The couple's love between Saint and Osiris as they held each other steady in the face of their worst fears. The brotherhood between humanity, Cabal, and Eliksni, driven to protect one another in the face of a hopelessly powerful enemy. And arguably the most important, the seeming answer to the question of "Does the Traveler truly treasure humanity enough to stay and defend us against the coming Darkness?"
This may just be me being pedantic, but that's just something I thought of during the finale cutscene.

I really think love is one of the core themes of Destiny 2, particularly over the last couple years. It's choosing to care, to stand together against overwhelming odds. Like you point out its all forms of love- even if we lose we as the Coalition choose to do so together rather than alone in the dark. We're not fighting for the sake of fighting anymore, we have so much worth fighting for.

The Eramis fight leading up to this was pretty epic. I was pretty let down by Eramis in plunder and in Beyond Light, but this little fight we had where she herself came to fight us actually felt like she was our rival, like a reoccurring boss that has beef with us specifically. It’s super cool, and I hope she keeps appearing for us.

I thought we finally were gonna clip her for good this time. But Bungie just keeps dragging her along. However we get clear indication what her beef with the Traveler is and that she has a STRONG alliance with Xivu. House Salvation and Xivu's forces along with Scorn and Darkness(Calus) are pretty formidable threat for once.

When you do the heists after the cinematic shes pleading for us to give Up so Its a quick end to spare suffering. The fact the Traveller didnt flee just breaks her mind even more because its nothing she expected.
I think shes going to sacrifice herself eventually.

My favourite things about this cutscene: All of it.
Jokes aside, I LOVED the callback to Destiny 1 with the Guardian Fireteam behind Zavala each wearing OG D1 armour for their class, the recreation of the original Destiny 1 wallpaper/cover art with lighting an everything.
Also, the MUSIC and storyline here. Rasputin sacrifices himself, the Witness watching Eramis, Anna’s heartbreak and final conversation with Rasputin as was her first conversation with him, and finally Elsie and Anna huggin’ it out which is long overdue.
Well done Bungie. Goosebumps and major emotions here.

You know, I think not only was the Traveler moving to a position for its last stand against the Black Fleet, but it was moving out of the way from the Last City in case Rasputin failed to stop Eramis from blowing up the Traveler. Not only a strategic move, but a considerate move to make sure innocent people didn't die because of Eramis' vendetta.
That's how I interpreted it. It was trying to minimize the collateral damage
Yes, you're exactly right. Dope to see folks who clearly understand the story well enough to see what's going on. It wasn't planning to run, if it wanted to, it would've used its version of Blink, which is what we saw it use when it left Savathun's Throne World. It was trying to defend the City and now it's remaining in orbit, likely as a position of defense of the City now that the Witness is closing in.
Good point. I also believe this is the final positional or at least, a guarding one...This is a stretch, but what if we need to recover this 'Veil' from Neomuna so the traveler can use it to protect earth? :)
In my head I can't help but see an additional side to it. Eramis effectively had a gun to it's face. The Traveler effectively walked up to her in a mixed gesture of suicidal despair and "Leave them out of this."
It staying in orbit and not returning to the City could also be this. That or a defiant "Come and get me."

Man, Destiny could absolutely succeed with a TV show fully animated like this. Everything about this cutscene was beautiful. 2:20 specifically was breathtaking with audio, visuals and narrative all meeting a climax. Thanks so much Bungie for making one of my favorite forms of entertainment

This makes you really look at how music selection and background make a difference in a cutscene. The morose music with hopeful undertones gives the idea that rasputin is at peace with his decision, and that the only one hurt would be himself, and ana. In the background, you see the colors fade and lights go dark. you feel Red's presence leave the frame.

As we dive into the apex of the light and darkness saga let us not forget the friends who didn’t make it too see how this story ends, to see the face behind the darkness. To see guardians, eliksni, cabal and even crow look up at the traveler as friends and allies in the last city. We know your up there with cayde cheering us on as we face the start of our end.
That hug between Ana and Elsie has to be one of the most heartwarming moments ever in Destiny.

I literally had that "ohhhhh shit" reaction like 5 times and almost cried just as many. So much emotion in 3 minutes. The soundtrack was perfect too.
When the traveler started moving I was sitting there like no god dam way it’s ditching us right as the darkness is at our doorstep.

You know, there’s a sort of beautiful finality feeling to this. The Traveller actually moving(whether to run or take a final stand against the Witness), all of the characters we’ve come to know and love preparing for the end, it’s an almost hauntingly comforting thing. I cant exactly explain it. I know we still have The Final Shape after this, but it really feels like we’re reaching the end.
For many of us, we started playing Destiny since the alpha back in 2014. Fast forward almost 9 years later and it’s crazy that Destiny has come this far. Destiny has never once made me feel emotional until this point. Almost 10 years this game has been a part of my life. It’s crazy to think about.
That's what I have with Halo. It's my favorite franchise in the world, but with how terribly mismanaged it is, I've been playing Destiny 2 more and more. Been playing since D1's launch, but I've never been so invested in the franchise as I am now. Still a lot of lore and seasonal stuff I don't know about, but I'm actually more excited avout Destiny's future than I am Halo's. Bubgie was right to jump ship in the long run because Destiny is flourishing while Halo is in the gutter
Insanely well made. Props to the team that created this. The quality and animation were so good. Lighting was amazing as well

Everyone is talking about this cutscene imitating the d1 cover art, but no one is talking about how Eido pointing to the traveller mimics Eramis in the Whirlwind cutscene.
One of the better endings in quite a while. Somehow more emotional impact knowing that all we know from D1 and D2 is about to end in some way. Just having the Traveler rise again after being over the city for all these years is massive and feels so...surreal. 100% this is leading to a battle over Earth (well we've seen that in the Lightfall trailers), we realize we can't win and flee to Neptune.
I think it's more we seek out the Veil in the hopes to confront the Fleet, as we are now, we'd get shmammered
I don't know why, but I couldn't take the Crow scene seriously with the giant pink bunny in the background.
Fantastic how we see all four seasons of The Witch Queen represented here.
- Season of the Risen: Valus Forge and Empress Caiatl, standing watch above the Earth
- Season of the Haunted: Crow and Zavala. (Shame Eris wasn't here)
- Season of Plunder: Eido and Mithrax amongst the people in the Eliksni Quarter. Eramis at the centre of it all.
- Season of the Seraph: Ana killing Rasputin. Elsie comforting her. The Warsats being destroyed.
I'm pissed off that Lord Saladin or valus forge has to be stuck with the cabal. I know he likes it there but fuck, I can tell Saladin wants to be there with the people and the traveler in the city instead of being on a ship as he watches it leave.
I was thinking to myself, that after seeing Cayde-6 die, i wasn't thinking i was gonna cry again after that cutscene. But HOLY SHIT this made me tear up.
Even though we only got know Rasputin for most of this season compared to the other times where he's been relevant to the story, it's just heartbreaking to see him have no other option than sacrifice himself for humanity. The relationship between him and Ana was certainly special. The emotion and actions Ana showed really makes the cutscene just the more sadder. The hug from Elsie was what really made me cry after witnessing Ana shutdown Rasputin in the last moments before Eramis' plan had worked.
This season was certainly the best for me in my opinion. I have never felt that more engagded in the Destiny story than ever before. Props to you Bungie.
Now we have these last 14 days to prepare for what's to come in Lightfall.

Crow’s connection to the word “scourge” is way bigger than people realize, hence him being on top of the Schnell building. There is no way Bungie didn’t intend for that connection
Fantastic cutscene, fantastic end to the seasonal story. The through line of “more than a weapon” was beautiful, and Rasputin’s sacrifice hit me much harder than I was expecting. Well done Bungie!

They are not the same ones as those on the box art. The Helmet on the warlock, the Sholderpad for the Titan, and the Cloak for the hunter, from what I could see, dont match. That being said, they could be in reference to the Original three.
The fact that the Traveler being in orbit was a callback to the original Destiny 1 cover art is incredible. This really is the beginning of the end, and we've been heading towards it full speed this whole time

As the Siddhartha Golem's purpose was to act as Rasputin's proxy, and learn what it was like to live amongst those he was protecting. Almost like a scholar studying abroad.
However. I would argue that for Red's class. He would make a great Titan. Afterall. He was humanity's greatest protector.

@@ncpolley People held onto the 'Rasputin shot the Traveller!' lore even after repeatedly being told that he didn't for years. It took literal word-of-god for that to misinterpretation of old lore to be put to rest. So I can't really be surprised when people keep going on about how the Traveler is Neutral/Evil when we, once again, have pretty damn clear information, from the Traveler's own mouth no less, about its goals and intent.
Some folks just don't read the lore and get everything from hyper-speculative youtube videos.

I was so ready for Eramis to actually succeed, to actually kill the Traveler. I can't tell what scares me more, the thought of the Traveler being killed, or the thought that it has no where left to run.

The emotions I felt seeing the being that I've killed for, and protected, and died countless times for, lift and "leave". I fell so abandoned. You can I understood in that moment how erimis and all the world's before would have felt. It was very touching

@@DarkestFates only according to the Witness, and in response to Eramis questions. I think it's more likely the Traveler moved because A) it's a stand against the pyramid fleet, and B) in case the warsats did go off, it didn't want the city to get zapped.
We won't know until we get a piece of lore confirming why.
@@DarkestFates In the Dark Future lore tabs where it covers the future where Elsie was previously in, it was directly stated that the Traveler did run away. Meaning that the Witness is most likely wrong in his assessment of "no where to go"
It isn't leaving. It was moving to a more strategic defensive position, and probably also to keep collateral damage to a minimum in case the warsats weren't stopped
Now I understand the meaning behind Season of Defiance. The end begins, but we will stand our ground just as the Traveler chose to do here.

@@Set451 there's a good reason why it probably wasn't ready to leave. The warsats could have killed everyone in the city due to the debris after, which is a potential reason. It stopped, now in Earth's orbit. There's a long standing theory that the traveller wasn't fleeing to try and survive, but that it is the last of the travellers and was trying to find a race to fight the witness

@@Set451 My theory is the real reason why it stopped and haven't gone back is because if the Witness catches him in the City instead of in low orbit then likely the entirety of the Last City would have been destroyed
This was a great end to the season.
After this i just stood in the tower looking at the empty sky.
Actually felt something with the traveller not being there for the first time.
So to explain, the Traveler isn’t moving to flee. It’s moving to prepare… It’s backed in a corner, so it’s moving forward to distance any damage to the Last City and to take the fight towards the Darkness.

We complain but we also compliment, this ending was just perfect, I've never felt soo invested with a cutscene in destiny like this before, the tone, the sad soundtrack, the parallels with d1, the witness at the end

Feels like the end of an era. Rasputin was one of the last vestiges of the old Destiny. More emotional than expected.
The witness in the monitor was an excellently sinister touch
Yeah. Like I and others have said, you can see how Eramis turns around, like she's expecting to see the Witness behind her, but there was just an empty control room. It wasn't physically there, but it didn't need to be. Once its hooks are in you, it will never let go.
What a phenomenal ending to a season and a year. Storytelling in this game has come so far. I love the weekly story bits, and this cinematic and that final mission made it feel all worth it. So awesome
