- TORTURE TEST CERAMIC SPRAY PAINT PROTECTION for auto detailing. Today its The Opticoat Hyperseal vs P&S Defender Spray Coating. Both are very popular in the auto detailing scene and easy to get. Are these spray sealants good paint protection or are they another auto detailing gimmick? We will find out. I will be testing these ceramic spray sealants or ceramic spray coatings with a chemical resistance test. I will start with a good car detailing soap and keep stepping up the torture until they fail. These cleaners and soaps are all products that are used in car detailing and could end up on the paint work. I hope you enjoy the video and hope you consider subscribing to my channel.

Love that you’re doing more videos again. Mahalo
Thanks
Thank you Jeremy for another great video!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for the review Jeremy. I bought a bottle of P&S Defender because I heard so many people in a certain Facebook group say how great it is. I stripped the ceramic coating from the hood of my car solely for the purpose of comparing products and I applied Defender. Now, I live in south Florida and don't have a garage, so my car sits out 24/7. After just a couple weeks and two washes with a PH neutral soap the Defender was gone. After testing a couple different spray-on sealants, I've come to the conclusion that they don't work very well in hot, humid climates. Keep up the great work!
Some do griots 3 in 1 would work better, P&S as of lately has been ALOT of HYPE
@@UndressforAndres I've heard a lot of good things about the Griot's product. And yes, much hype going on about P&S.
Try griots 3 in 1
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate the real world feedback
I live in south Louisiana so similar conditions. I’ve had some good results with diy detail ceramic gloss, but if you want something to really last I’d look into getting a coating on there
You should try ceramic gloss! It's amazing! Thanks for the great video again:)
Thanks for the idea!
Love your videos man keep’em going. I’d like to see Chemical Guys Mr Pink vs Adams Mega Foam foam challenge.
I thought I did that one a long time ago. Thanks for watching
Great test - thank you for sharing. I think most of these products are a scam. Very little improvements, lots of marketing and high costs with little user value.
Awesome video again thanks a lot
Glad you enjoyed it
I've often wondered what the behind the scene reaction from the companies is when they see these videos. Do they try and duplicate the results? Do they get to reformulating right away?
Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Since I know what a lot of P&S Team looks like based on their videos, I imagined them secretly watching this video together in a back room. As soon as they saw Defender beating out Opticoat, they just all looked at each other, without saying anything, and smiled. "We did it."
Try out clutch by shine supply next 👍 great videos !!
Will do
Another great video. Are you planning for a new pressure washer? I noticed that the Kranzle is missing.
Thanks. No. I was using it off the shelf. It will be back up there when I am done my project. Thanks for watching
Thanks Jeremy, I love your videos……I just bought Hyper Seal. Super bummed on the results. Hyper Seal is SUPER expensive!
Give it a try. Hopefully it works better for you.
Test Griots 3n 1 Ceramic spray. Great videos, thanks
I already did. Thanks
I use Technicians Choice and it’s amazing!
Man that is disappointing for OPTI coat especially for the price. It's good to see that we have so many options for quality spray sealants at a decent price.
Defender for the win! Thanks Jeremey!
Yeah man.
I think you should try to apply hyper seal not like a sealant but like ceramic coating - with an applicator, wiat a moment and wipe when it’s mosty evaporated.
You are right Opti has some nice product especially ONR. Sometimes like to mix ONR with Absolute.
Nice. Yeah the ONR is good old faithful
One thing I'll say about Defender, it looks great when applied, especially on black.
It does.
HD, thanks for the testing. As far as spray sealants, I don't care for either. TW Seal "N Shine would last longer than any of these? What are your thoughts...
Seal and shine sucks in Florida. I couldn’t get over a month out of it
It works well in cold winter areas such as the Midwest. Did you prepare the surface?@@barrycook8116
Would love to see Defender vs Bead Maker
Yeah. Can do
I wonder if there is residue left over masking the water behavior. I was watching a Dr Beasley's video on wheel coatings awhile back. Chris Racana talked about the need to fully neutralize the surface after using alkaline products. Water alone is not enough. They make a product called pH Neutralizer that does that, but I'm wondering if the water behavior would come back after a couple days in the sun.
Good thoughts on this but I can tell you that they don’t come back based on my testing. You can feel its gone to the touch with dry sticky paint and even after the hood sits for weeks they are still dead. Anything is possible though so I never say 100% anything. Hahahaha. Thanks for watching
Great video! Do you have a video comparing 3D bead it up?
No I don’t. Will look into it. Thanks.
Question. If I do one step paint correction, can I use defender as a sealant?
Thank you for great video.
Yes For sure. It’s not a super long lasting product but it will give some good life. Reapply whenever you see the protection fading. It easiest to tell by the water beading and sheeting properties.
Both are disapointing to me. I bought a gallon of Defender. It seems like it last a month here in Louisiana and at that price, you better off gettin the old Meguiars synthetic express spray wax at 20-25 bucks cheaper by the gallon with same performance. Or you can go with Adams detail spray
I know what you mean. Some of the old ones are good ones.
Also in Louisiana I’ve seen about a month from it too. Pretty disappointing, but I’ve had good luck with diy detail ceramic gloss so far
I recently discovered xpress wax and know it's about 10 years on the market
, works amazing for me even diluted a lot I use it as a drying aid anywhere from 10:1 to 20:1 and cars without coatings I use it on the next washes show incredible hydrophobics. Cost of use diluted blows anything else I've used away. I wash between 20 and 30 cars a week.
Pan The Organizer is saying that P&S Bead Maker mixed with P&S Dream Maker is where it's at! I've not tried any P&S products yet but given how popular they are and Pan giving that mixture the #1 spot for "quick detailers" is definitely saying something. Anyways, love watching your videos and would love to see that mixture tried on your hood. 👍
P&S products are OK but the most overhyped stuff I've seen in a while. Gyeon Ceramic Detailer works better than this mix IMO, but they are all "quick toppers". They aren't meant to provide any real durability.
10 parts beadmaker and 1 part DreamMaker has been a great product for us !! We called it DreamBeads. We don't really use Defender as a stand alone product but we do top it on SystemX Renew and have had really nice results! Apply Renew wait 30min to 1hr depending on environment then top with defender! It works for us. I'm sure there are other nice products out there but I'm sure tired of jumping around ... We need consistency as well.
These sealants should be beating Seal n Shine and they are not. Thank you for a very good test video!
Yo man Overhypedseal What? Have you done anything on the old Mothers CMX vs the neon green bottled Mom Ultimate Ceramic ? GRIOTS 3 in 1 is still King right!?
Time to try Armour Detail Supply Ceramic Spray Sealant
Coming soon. Thanks
That stuff is phenomenal 👍
Does Defender bead and sheet better then bead maker? The gloss and slackness seams quote similar between those 2 products.
It’s beading and sheeting are similar but defender is way more durable
Thanks man! Would defender be tougher with bead maker?
Defender is tougher than Bead maker. Adding beadmaker would not make it tougher. IMO. Thanks
@@HawaiiDetailing ooh dang okay 👍🏻
Been kicking around getting the Kranzle setup but didn’t know to go 1322TS or 1622TS. How do u like yours?
Love it. Great machine
Hey Jeremy, I think I have a good battle for ur next video. You should try technicians choice G max graphene ceramic vs one of ur favorite all time graphene ceramic sprays. I’d take the technicians choice all day lol
Will have to give it a go. Thanks.
In your opinion, what is your recommendation for a ceramic/graphene spray that is easiest to apply and has the most durability?
Here is a deeper dive on this. www.hawaiidetailing.com/paintprotection
@@HawaiiDetailing Thank you for the reply! I'll check it out!
Good video Jeremy. P&S Defender for the win so far, I haven't been disappointed with any P&S product that I have purchased. You can't go wrong with any P&S product.
I totally agree. They have a solid lineup that has never let me down.
That’s not really true. P&S has some lousy products in their lineup too (Bead Maker, Brake Buster)
@@fillflashdetailer8838Pan just gave both those products VERY high ratings in his recent 2023 best of awards.
@@fillflashdetailer8838 Bead Maker is not meant for long term protection is more for aesthetics giving your car that boost in gloss after a maintenance wash. Brake Buster is formulated to clean both wheels and tires, I use it for maintenance only plus I can dilute it saving me money and most important it doesn't kill my lungs when I inhale it. Both products work as intended never had an issue with them.
I just tried the new formula hyper seal on top of a 2 year old opti coat pro plus coating after a decontamination wash and the beeding is insane like sphere shaped beeds of water just rolling off.
I let it sit for 24 hours before testing..
P&S for the win. Seems likeP&S make some great products .👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yeah. A good product line.
Defender taking an easy win here
Opti over promise and under deliver at a very high price point
I hope optimum makes improvements
I had my vehicle ceramic coated with Opticoat. I purchased the hyperseal but I never thought it lasted. I think at their price point the product should be more durable.
Why do you think the product is not protecting just because it's not beading?
I agree.
This was just the comparison I was looking for. Been using both for a while now and they feel very similar. Easy to apply, Works well on glass, glossy/slick, doesnt last very long, etc.
I started wondering if Optimum and P&S are somehow working together or follow the same formulation principles.
Anyway, super disappointing.
HyperSeal claims up to 12months no ?
How would you ever get that 🤦♂️
Eddie colon did a test on his channel and it did pretty well compared to other sealants
@@ethanblan435 then maybe this is a bad batch ?
@@ethanblan435in this one HyperSeal came last
ua-cam.com/video/T1o0aV2lXjg/v-deo.htmlsi=fH4PEfuJnQzFhGdy
@@tafl-9198 maybe so. Eddie used a water spot remover also in his test to clean the panel between steps and that seemed to help unclog it
Wow! So which products have the most durability? Seems like the last couple years products have gone soft and got weaker…
I’m looking for a winner, Turtle Wax Ice Seal and Shine was the best like 5 years ago…nobody could touch it in terms of durability and price point.
Who’s the new champ?
Wow that opticoat is so disappointing! I’ve used defender a little and that’s honestly not impressed me either in terms of durability. DIY ceramic gloss has been way better for me
I categorize the defender as a little more durable then beadmaker?? I will have to test and see head to head
@@HawaiiDetailing yeah. I tried it on my mom’s car and a month later it was doing pretty good but the lower panels were pretty slow sheeting. Ceramic gloss has been perfect though
@@ethanblan435 good to know. Thanks for sharing with everyone
Do Avalon King vs Technician Choice both have suited me well
You are right, ceramic gloss is awesome!
Opticoat Hyperseal was very disappointing...Especially it is VERY expensive. I'll take a hard pass on that product. I was impressed by Defender which performed well and is very reasonably priced!
opticoat seal works worst than quick detailer???
That is the oldest version of Hyper Seal. The newest version has a gold label "NEW Ceramic Formula." The next newest version has a gold label "NEW Formula."
I never watch chemical comparison videos, but I wanted to watch it so that I could help others understand some things.
Beading does not necessarily mean the protectant is gone. If that were the case, then the coating on my car would be gone every time dirt got on it and then it rains. There is no beading going on especially in pollen season.
Why does the product have to be put up against something else to compare? Can't it be tested as a stand alone?
This is not a defense against hyper seal. These comments are to clarify that beading is a UA-cam chemical testers way of getting clicks and views.
The last thing is that hyper seal is very different from other products. Since I k ow nothing of defender I have no positive or negative things to say about it. Hyper seal can stand alone, but it's main purpose is to protect a coating. It does not bead on its own. It's only purpose is to prevent build up of dirt. No where on the bottle does it promise beading.
Many products are designed to bead because chemical companies know that people love that, but it may give you a false sense of protection. Beading does not mean that the paint is protected. It usually means that it is free of dirt.
I feel defender is basically an updated bead maker but rebranded lol
Wow. I bet the old Duragloss Aquawax could beat those.
P&S for the win
I agree
Man they didn't change much at all did they.
Art de shine e graphene seal is the best product in this category.
Will have to give it a try.
Really disappointed in both products but who washes their cars with wheel cleaners?
Hopefully nobody. Some wight get on it around the wheel wells etc. but this is for entertainment only.
No contest and at about double the price? Just goes to show that expensive doesn’t always mean better 😢
No it does not. Thanks
I wouldnt sprnd a penny on either one. Im getting up to 4 months on non-garaged work vehicles with McKees 37 Hydro Blue Pro and Hydro Graphene spray and rinse SiO2 sealants. Geez.
Good to know. Thanks.
this is what bothers me about some companies. They develop some great products, and then some of the products they make are just "so-so" or not good at all. There is no consistency and especially with a company like Optimum! They have been around for quite some time. You think they would be able to put out consistently great products across the board, but NO!! That's sad!
Jeremy, if you want a sealant that's going to ace the hood test, try Fireball Pirouette. It's not slick but the hydrophobics are outstanding. I use it on my shower mirror and it's ridiculous especially with 2 coats. I can dry it with the shower head. Durability unknown for me, it lasts forever on the mirror but soap masks it for a while.
Thanks for the recommendation
I think you are not familiar with how some Opti products are designed to work. I would prefer water to sheet off and not bead up as hard waters may result. Please reference Opti and what the say it should behave. I would love to redo a match up again but maybe do it with this Opti product and another Opti product. No way this product just washed off with water and soap.
Opti-seal works great i love optimim products ive never tried hyper seal though. Also just because it doesnt bead doesnt mean it isnt protecting the paint from uv etc. Thats why i use opti seal and optimum wax for best of both worlds
what size nozzle tip are you using?
40
@@HawaiiDetailing what size orifice?
@craftedballistics on my model 1322TS Kranzle a 4.0 bit.ly/3KZ0Bz8
@@HawaiiDetailing gotcha ok thanks again! Mahalo!
I had much higher hopes for as hyped as they made defender. Opticoat seems like a waste of time and money
It washed off easy???
They claim up to 12 months, and it shouldn't be used all that often. Looks like it would last maybe a few months at best
@@booboocushion30 yeah, they said 6 easily, and it’s struggling after 1 in my conditions. I’ve had good luck with diy detail ceramic gloss so far though
Opticoat blows. Time to move on. Defender for the win!
Opti coat looks like it needs a second coat
Jeremy these are not products known for their durability. Why bother testing?
I just thought people might want to see them and what they can do.
@@HawaiiDetailingOr can't do. If there are no tests, people will purchase them with unrealistic expectations.
Yikes! The tests looks like it's between coated and uncoated 😅 not two similar products
I'll stick with beadmaker/dreammaker as a drying aid with each wash 👌🏽
They are good old faithfuls
Thanks for this head to head test. I would not buy either of these products. Nothing innovative or special here. Too many companies releasing new products just to pump up sales.
First

Second 🥈

I can’t believe how bad that Opticoat is. It’s absurdly expensive too. Basically a scam, garbage product.
So, 4 minutes in and OptiCoat is trash...yikes!
