This is hands-down the best song I have ever heard in my life. And I'll be 51 later this month. The song does go right through your heart and into your soul. Very very powerful.
As my parents brought me up on simon and garfunkel. This song is very special to me. This is more special them ever as I can connect with my family on how we experienced silence in our life's. Great work Disturbed you truly understand emotions behind lyrics.
Like you, I was a fan of the original, but this guy delivers the message of the song in such a deep reaching way.....He delivered the essence of the song.
I've learned that David Draiman and Disturbed address depression, addiction and suicide during every concert, performance offering support and understanding. They are one of the⁶ most popular, loved bands of our time!❤😊
Truly they’re not one of the most popular bands (unfortunately) but honestly if people stopped and actually listened to disturbed, hopefully they will ACTUALLY LISTEN to people who truly want help but have never had their voice heard.
Art Garfunkel with a voice of an Angel sang a song of what people were doing to each other, David Draiman with the voice of an Avenging Angel with sword held high and eyes filled with fire sang a song of what people had done to each other. Both versions with the same words, but both with different meanings, my opinion.
It's reactions like this is the reason WHY I like watching them. Watching people's faces as they light up and react to something in such a POSITIVE way. And seeing how a piece touches them in a deep way.

Simon & Garfunkel with the lyrics was ahead of its time. They told what was happening and what would happen and Disturbed called out what IS happening now. Love it!

I knew you would love this. David Draiman, the singer, is a classically trained cantor. Disturbed is definitely metal and they’ve been around since like the late 90s. Their first album, The Sickness, is just iconic to me. I’ve heard this song probably 200 times, and I cried with you. I cry every time. They also have covers of If I Ever Lose My Faith by Sting, and Land of Confusion by Genesis that are both so good. Their whole body of original work is really great. I hope you check out more! This song it is a master piece of Simon&Garfunkel but Disturbed just made justice to this song. The power, raspiness and determination of the singer, just touch every sentiment in your soul! This is what supose to be music, the joy and sorrow of music, the love and sadness in it.
I was 20 years old when SOS came out and I loved it, it was important to me. Disturbed's version simply opened up a whole new vision. Paul McCartney says that a good cover reveals something new to the listener.....in which case this might well be the greatest cover of all time.
I discovered this band 2 years ago when this version popped on UA-cam and I too get goosebumps every-time! When this video was originally released in 2015, Paul Simon contacted the band and let them know that they now owned the song.
One of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. He's also got range and amazing control. Btw Momma TaunT...I could not hear you at all ...and had trouble hearing the song....please turn up both...TY!
David got another one with this cover. every reactor i've watched reacting to this version teared up or outright cried. i still get misty eyed after all this time from this version of this song
No one with a soul can not be moved by this rendition of of this song, David Draiman really uses the power of his voice to convey the anguish he feels of a society falling into silence as we stop talking to the person beside us & instead turn away from each other (the message of the original song) & into our cell phones. l love this video version more than the live performance as the graphics add so much to it like 5:33 where people with something to say are waiting for someone to say it that will be heard & the musicians are on their way. Granted the live version has more grit/intensity due to the fact that David was during the performance but this is my go to version. Music is magic & this is magical & needs to be heard more.
Agreed.. I found it very PAINFUL to listen to Draiman's rendition. (As I feel he MEANT it to be.. the raw emotion... probably one of the BEST covers I've heard )
Disturbed is my all time fave band. They are heavy metal and have many wonderful songs in that genre and in ballads. David is classically trained. He can hit any note and sing any song. Check out No More, A Reason to Fight and The Light and Hold on to the memories.
When Paul Simon heard David perform this on the Conan show, he made a point of emailing him to let him know how impressed he was and went further by directing his fans on all his social media accounts to this performance! 👏😍 Apolgies to David - but I have a recommendation for you to discover someone who has been claimed to have the best voice in the world by everyone who has discovered him. Briefly, his name is Dimash Kudaibergen, from Kazakhstan, born in 1994, height 192cm, has a voice that covers over 7 octaves, is classically trained. Dimash was catapulted into popularity in 2017 when he competed at the The Singer competition in China. He was drawn as a wildcard to enter, and was the first ever non-Chinese and the youngest ever contestant to perform AND he was first to start (no pressure!) …. this is the performance that captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight and brought Dimash to the attention of the world - all of us with our jaws on our chests. He sings in 13 different languages and plays 7 different instruments. NB: this is a 2017 performance and every single one from then to the present is as perfect and mind-blowing!🔥🚀😱!! Here's the link to SOS (d’un terrien en détresse - translation: SOS (an earthling/human in distress) which comes from a famous 1978 Canadian-French rock/punk opera called Starmania. The video has a brief background story to the song and competition. Enjoy!! ua-cam.com/video/bDX3FhmyNac/v-deo.html He is magnificent. ☮❤ Sea Point, Cape Town
David and Disturbed are awesome! David is off the chart with his voice. I love metal/heavy metal and so many great bands are out there. Love Chester and LP as well. David and Chester were friends and I think each band pushed the other to grow and go into different genres!
Loved Simon and Garfunkle. THIS however, stands among the greatest cover songs of all time. A cover that equals and maybe even surpasses the original. Most DECIDEDLY a worthy successor. And your genuine reaction to it was as heartening as the song itself :)
I never get tired of watching people react to this for the first time. Upon seeing it done live on Conan Paul Simon contacted David Draiman to tell him how much he liked it and apparently it's the only cover that Paul Simon ever linked on his social media page
Work the show got the swag. You might try this one, same kind of band that started at the same time. I'm sure you will be impressed. Staind - Something To Remind You (Live) -
Disturbed it quite a classic "heavy metal" band, that does a lot of speedy guitar riffs with distortion, screaming, growling but most of the time melodic singing to quite an agressive kind of music. Disturbed is one of the 'must know' bands when you call yourself a metalhead. maybe not as famous as iron maiden, ACDC or manowar or alike, but they've got a lot of really heavy songs with catchy hooks. especially their riffs. When i first heard "The Sound of silence" i thought right before - really ? they dared to 'metalize' one of the greatest rock ballades of all time ? (beside stairway to heaven and hotel california) and then i suddenly bursted out in tears. So much passion, so much anger, dissapointment and fear - this whole series of emotions packed into a song... a COVER song.... it instantly became my most beloved cover song of all times. PERIOD. it instantly became to me, even better than the original. it instantly became the new "the one song" to show to people who dont like metal. Before that i had some nightwish songs to show but THIS totally blew me away and hit me cold and unprepared. it still gets me today when i hear that song.
People like to dismiss covers as money grabs or whatever, but a WELL crafted song as you pointed out, will be great in any genre. I love both versions of it- original like a warning, this as a "Well, you didn't get it, did you?" sort of thing. One of the greatest songs I've heard in my 60 yrs. on this Earth.
Many people completely miss the point of this song-they focus only on the voice or the band. But this man has managed to touch the world and expose the essence of human nature. His message is clear: Fool, you have nothing to share because your soul is silent.
This song has so many different meanings... When schools, especially public schools from kindergarten through high school, run out of funding, the first programs they cut ✂️ are the art's, music, theater, etc. Also, ISOLATION, DIVISION, LONELINESS, NOT COMMUNICATING, NOT STANDING UP FOR OUR RIGHTS OR EXPRESSING OURSELVES AND WHAT WE BELIEVE IN, I could go on and on.
Disturbed was one of the first bands I listed to heavily (i started with metal). Super refreshing to see a Disturbed reaction, this is definitely one of their unique tracks. Much love mommaT as alwayz
"And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made." Think about what everyone is doing when they are looking down at their cellphones. Head bowed, neon lights emitting from an artifact that people put way too much faith into.
The original S&G version was to softly sung for what the song was saying. Which was about people not speaking up against the injustice in the world. I think this version more accurately portrays the intent of the song and says something about the break down AND Cancel Culture caused by the internet in the words "People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never shared. No one dared disturb the sound of silence.".
I hear you momma. You described it very much how I felt the first time I ever heard it. I grew up knowing and hearing the original. But this one left me stunned… and in tears. Beautifully done.
Disturbed has had many recent heartfelt songs, two of note being 'Uninvited Guest' and 'A Reason to Fight'. if you do listen to them, A Reason to fight live at Alexandra Palace, London, still gets to me every time i hear it.
Well Momma Taun T, what a beautiful Lady and it's no shame you shed a tear, they did a marvelous job with this song. Few people could do it justice but even Paul Simon commended them on it. I listen primarily to country and old Rock that I grew up on. Always appreciating the Country like Blues got it's start in Gospel. Chris Stapleton has many songs of his own and remakes that he does wonderful on, maybe he will fall into your reaction list? I've always been a fan of Johnny Cash but with the state of the world and our United States of America, his "RAGGED OLD FLAG" raises pride and tears. Please consider that song along with "MAGGIES SONG" a story of Chris's family dog. Much Love and Respect to you young lady. Seeing a beautiful woman caring is what true Beauty is! You are in my prayers Hoka hey
Such a beautiful reaction to such an epic masterpiece. Thank you for sharing. I've heard this song many times, but I still can't stop tearing up when it reaches the climax.
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel in the 70s so The Sounds or Silence was very familiar to me but, this performance of the song blew me away several years ago when I discovered it too. So glad you had this opportunity to experience it too. ;-)
Did anyone notice when he sings about vision planted in his Brain, well look at the next shot where the timpani is taken out of the tree, it looks like a rudimentary version of the veins and arteries of the neck and head. You can see the image resembles many basic images of the blood vessels. This song has so many little things that visually match what he is singing though sometimes you don't notice it the first few times, even at the end as the boat crosses over the sun comes up to chase away darkness .
I'm joining the line of people saying they've been fans of Disturbed from the sickness lol. Another great cover is sting's if I ever lose my faith in you
It's been awhile since this video has posted but, I just found it. I love watching real & true reactions to music or a genre that the reviewer has truly never experienced. You come across as a person who has never experienced this rendition of the song, and/or any music from this artist. & that makes is so truly authentic. I had to watch the video several times & back space several times to catch things I've missed, or wanted to see again. I loved watching your eyes as you watched the video. That pretty much explains everything. Great job on you review!
Les chanteurs de heavy metal sont les meilleurs pour interpréter ce genre de chanson. Ils chantent toujours avec leur coeur et leurs tripes(they sing with their heart and their gut) . Colères,révoltes,accusations...c'était aussi le thème de cette chanson...C'est mon analyse...et si je me trompe excuse-me....
The live version on the Conan show will blow your mind if you ever get the chance to watch it. Also one that might tug at your heart strings is the band Hearts cover of Stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy Center Honors. Peace to you and yours pretty lady ❤️
David was sick during the Company performance and to me was not as good as the official music video. That being said, to be able to perform at all while sick is awesome.
First time visitor to your channel, loved your reaction to this song yes,David is an amazing singer and really makes this song his own.Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions, stay safe and well.
David Draiman has the best voice in hard rock and metal! Beautiful reaction to a powerful arrangement of an all-time classic! I was crying by the end as well ❤
can't remember which one, but one of the original artist was brought to tears by this version. "Heavy Metal Singers can't actually sing..." they said... David Draiman of Disturbed: "Here, hold my, OHHH-WAH-AH-AH-AH!!!!" ... to me, it is like the original was a warning, and Distrubed's version was rage that the warning went "unheard".
My mom who passed away shortly before her 70th birthday in 2021 was I big fan of Simon and Garfunkel. I even got to take her to see them in the early 2000’s. While she loved the original version of this song, she very much favored this version. It evoked extreme feelings that touched her soul deeply. I have to most definitely agree with her that this is one cover that was done gave so much more emotion to the song. Thank you for your reaction to this cover 🙏🏻❤️
There is another great rendition of this song, And it was song by Henk Poort for Floor Janssen from the band Nightwish. Henk Poort is a Dutch opera and musical singer and actor and is well known for his role as Phantom of the Opera. Lloyd Webber told people that Henk was his favorite Phantom because of his voice and acting. Henk is a Baritone, And when he started singing everyone on the couch was very impressed, because he came in so low that everything including the couch was vibrating and shaking. For Henk it was the first time he distorted his voice while singing especially for Floor., seeing she is very big in the metal scene. Fan's of Nightwish call her the Valkyrie Queen of Metal. Some fun facts: Floor is a fan of Henk since she was a child and saw the Phantom of the Opera, Also everyone on the couch calls Henk Poort, Uncle Henk. Here part of the Show Beste Zangers with Intro and Outro of the Song: ua-cam.com/video/IT7cYMDDCFQ/v-deo.html Also I can recommend you checking out the other Songs Floor Janssen did during this show they are all on another level. One of the songs is the Lady Gaga song Shallow after hearing the rendition Floor did I can't even listen to the original anymore.
The Universe has gotten to know itself through us and how hubris indeed it has become. We are merely the Universe opening an eye before it rolls back over to slumber. The Sound of Silence.
Very much atypical of Disturbed's music. If you want something else like this, try their cover of Sting's 'If I Ever Loose My Faith in You'. Something more in line with their usual style? 'Down with the Sickness' is the one that put them on the map.
@@MommaTaunT So another really good video is by the Rock & Roll groups AeroSmith, & Rap artists Run DMC. The song is AeroSmiths “Walk this Way”! The two groups together are phenomenal.
There are 3 songs where the cover/alternstive version takes it all to a completly different level. Sound of silence - Disturbed Hurt - Johnny Cash Mein Herz Brennt (piano version) - Rammstein (there is a version with English text) You get sucked in because of the pain, the beauty, the art, the relatability. They make the song their own, and add so much

1:20 - Exactly, that's what silence sounds like! 😉
😂
Just came across this again. Thought I'd say howdy and hope all is well
It's the alarm clock syndrome. Simon and Garfunkel gave a wake up call. Stained telling you your late
One of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. He's also got range and amazing control. Btw Momma TaunT...I could not hear you at all ...and had trouble hearing the song....please turn up both...TY!
I did with the next video , thanks for the feedback
I did the live version on our patreon
Agreed.. I found it very PAINFUL to listen to Draiman's rendition. (As I feel he MEANT it to be.. the raw emotion... probably one of the BEST covers I've heard
)
Heavy Metal is not always considered such, due to the instruments, but sometimes due to the text. It is something some people forget sometimes.
Disturbed is my all time fave band. They are heavy metal and have many wonderful songs in that genre and in ballads. David is classically trained. He can hit any note and sing any song. Check out No More, A Reason to Fight and The Light and Hold on to the memories.
Very few people remain unaffected by this. Tears, rocking back, goosebumps, or combinations. Thank you, I appreciated listening to your reaction.
Thank you
I have watched soooo many reactions to this and the live version, and I can't get enough of it.... Love David.....
It is amazing 🤩
When I was first told about this cover, I didn't believe anyone could cover a S&G song and make it better.
I was wrong. I love this song
Me too
When Paul Simon heard David perform this on the Conan show, he made a point of emailing him to let him know how impressed he was and went further by directing his fans on all his social media accounts to this performance!
Run on and on and on ...... Nobodies readings a fyn book.
@@randallcox6573 Your spelling would improve if you did read....just saying....Randall
He is amazing . His vocals are haunting .
David and Disturbed are awesome! David is off the chart with his voice. I love metal/heavy metal and so many great bands are out there. Love Chester and LP as well. David and Chester were friends and I think each band pushed the other to grow and go into different genres!
Thank you "Momma TaunT" for the good music from Germany. The sound of silence from Disturbed- super!
No matter how many times I hear it, this song just reaches down to my soul and gives me chills. David’s voice is absolutely phenomenal!! 🔥🔥
Loved Simon and Garfunkle. THIS however, stands among the greatest cover songs of all time. A cover that equals and maybe even surpasses the original. Most DECIDEDLY a worthy successor. And your genuine reaction to it was as heartening as the song itself :)
Thank you 😊
I never get tired of watching people react to this for the first time. Upon seeing it done live on Conan Paul Simon contacted David Draiman to tell him how much he liked it and apparently it's the only cover that Paul Simon ever linked on his social media page
I did react to the live version on my Patreon after so many people telling me that I have to see it 🥰
Work the show got the swag. You might try this one, same kind of band that started at the same time. I'm sure you will be impressed.
Staind - Something To Remind You (Live) -
Such a beautiful interpretation of the song. I have listened to it 200-300 times since I first heard it
Disturbed it quite a classic "heavy metal" band, that does a lot of speedy guitar riffs with distortion, screaming, growling but most of the time melodic singing to quite an agressive kind of music.
Great review... we agree!!!
So glad you felt it!! Best cover ever!!!
Disturbed is a group I grew up on and they are in my opinion one of the greatest. They put on a hell of a show. They are a must see in person
Disturbed was one of the first bands I listed to heavily (i started with metal). Super refreshing to see a Disturbed reaction, this is definitely one of their unique tracks. Much love mommaT as alwayz
Thank you dear 🥰
The original was the warming of what people are becomg, but disturbed said "you didnt yeild to the warming, now you NEED to listen!"
Kudos for not stopping at the end of each verse, but listening to it as it’s building up!
Thank you … for me this works best
A DOÇURA DE SUAS LÁGRIMAS AO FINAL ME EMOCIONARAM ! DISSE TUDO COM ESSA CENA! EMOCIONANTE DEMAIS !!!
PERFECT COMENTARY!!!

WELCOME FROM BRAZIL
"Hold on to memories" is another song by Disturbed which I think you would really enjoy!
This is one of the best reaction videos I've seen. Metal bands seem to have a knack of doing magnificent cover versions ❤️
Thank you 🥰
Disturbed has had many recent heartfelt songs, two of note being 'Uninvited Guest' and 'A Reason to Fight'. if you do listen to them, A Reason to fight live at Alexandra Palace, London, still gets to me every time i hear it.
So glad you appreciated this. Love the reaction. :)
Every time I listen to this tear’s role down my face so touching
Same here
Well Momma Taun T, what a beautiful Lady and it's no shame you shed a tear, they did a marvelous job with this song.
You are in my prayers
Hoka hey
Thank you ☺️
Such a beautiful reaction to such an epic masterpiece. Thank you for sharing. I've heard this song many times, but I still can't stop tearing up when it reaches the climax.
Thank you
Its a visceral experience listening to this song for the first time. And for the 1000 times after as well
love this version, he brings so much feeling to the words. so well done. will always be one of my favorites
I truly enjoyed your honest, genuine, and heartfelt reaction. Beautiful. God bless.
Thank you 🥰
Simon and Garfunkel tried to warn us. He somehow is full of anger that we did not hear.
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel in the 70s so The Sounds or Silence was very familiar to me but, this performance of the song blew me away several years ago when I discovered it too. So glad you had this opportunity to experience it too. ;-)
So did I , and I also grew up with the original 😉
Did anyone notice when he sings about vision planted in his Brain, well look at the next shot where the timpani is taken out of the tree, it looks like a rudimentary version of the veins and arteries of the neck and head. You can see the image resembles many basic images of the blood vessels.
This song has so many little things that visually match what he is singing though sometimes you don't notice it the first few times, even at the end as the boat crosses over the sun comes up to chase away darkness .
I'm joining the line of people saying they've been fans of Disturbed from the sickness lol. Another great cover is sting's if I ever lose my faith in you
I so fully agree with your reaction. Thank you very much.
That is so sweet! Thank you 🙏
Awesome beautiful rendition. Nice reaction. I tear up every time too. Yes check out more Disturbed
I spent 2 months in a monastery listening only to this song a few years ago. It makes me think of those lonely nights in a far away land.
This is sounds of pain & darkness. I love it so much.
This song changed me somehow. Tears, goosebumps, you name it. It reaches unto my soul. Thank you for your lovely reaction.
Les chanteurs de heavy metal sont les meilleurs pour interpréter ce genre de chanson. Ils chantent toujours avec leur coeur et leurs tripes(they sing with their heart and their gut) . Colères,révoltes,accusations...c'était aussi le thème de cette chanson...C'est mon analyse...et si je me trompe excuse-me....
That is so true! Merci 😉
Beautiful, genuine, raw reaction! I can tell you appreciate his talent!
Thank you 🥰
The live version on the Conan show will blow your mind if you ever get the chance to watch it. Also one that might tug at your heart strings is the band Hearts cover of Stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy Center Honors. Peace to you and yours pretty lady ❤️
Thank you !
Two PERFECT recommendations from you, Ken. Really enjoyed your reaction, thank you!
And he did the Conan show sick
David was sick during the Company performance and to me was not as good as the official music video. That being said, to be able to perform at all while sick is awesome.
YES STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN YES!!!
Ha ha! Made you cry! Me too, the first, second and many more times. I was speechless too.
First time visitor to your channel, loved your reaction to this song yes,David is an amazing singer and really makes this song his own.Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions, stay safe and well.
Thank you 🥰
You remind me of myself after seeing this for the first time. I was speechless.
🥰
My favorite version of Sound of Silence. I love watching the reactions of you all listening to this version.
David Draiman has the best voice in hard rock and metal! Beautiful reaction to a powerful arrangement of an all-time classic! I was crying by the end as well ❤
❤️
can't remember which one, but one of the original artist was brought to tears by this version.
Touches the soul❤
My mom who passed away shortly before her 70th birthday in 2021 was I big fan of Simon and Garfunkel. I even got to take her to see them in the early 2000’s. While she loved the original version of this song, she very much favored this version. It evoked extreme feelings that touched her soul deeply. I have to most definitely agree with her that this is one cover that was done gave so much more emotion to the song. Thank you for your reaction to this cover 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you for your kind words and I am so sorry for your loss! How wonderful you shared so much memories with her ❤️
There is another great rendition of this song, And it was song by Henk Poort for Floor Janssen from the band Nightwish.
Here part of the Show Beste Zangers with Intro and Outro of the Song:
ua-cam.com/video/IT7cYMDDCFQ/v-deo.html
Also I can recommend you checking out the other Songs Floor Janssen did during this show they are all on another level.
One of the songs is the Lady Gaga song Shallow after hearing the rendition Floor did I can't even listen to the original anymore.
I know Henk … when I was a singer , we shared the stage 😉
The Universe has gotten to know itself through us and how hubris indeed it has become.
We are merely the Universe opening an eye before it rolls back over to slumber. The Sound of Silence.
Love his version ❤
Very much atypical of Disturbed's music. If you want something else like this, try their cover of Sting's 'If I Ever Loose My Faith in You'. Something more in line with their usual style? 'Down with the Sickness' is the one that put them on the map.
Such a powerful video

So another really good video is by the Rock & Roll groups AeroSmith, & Rap artists Run DMC. The song is AeroSmiths “Walk this Way”!
The two groups together are phenomenal.
yes, beautiful song!
watching the first time.... THE NEON GOD THEY MADE... watch it hit. boom. fantastic.
There are 3 songs where the cover/alternstive version takes it all to a completly different level.
Sound of silence - Disturbed
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Mein Herz Brennt (piano version) - Rammstein (there is a version with English text)
You get sucked in because of the pain, the beauty, the art, the relatability. They make the song their own, and add so much
I would add Pink Floyd's High Hopes - Nightwish
