If I did not already own a SCAR 16S I would be very tempted to get one of these. But my SCAR 16S and 17S are one of my "I will not trade or sell for anything" guns.
Thystaff Thywill actually Scars hold their resale value pretty well. If I was to sell my 16 in the market right now, I would make a $600 profit. ARs don’t hold their value nearly as well
Thystaff Thywill go watch Mr.guns and gears interview with Battle Field Vegas about full auto round counts. The Scar is the most reliable weapon in their inventory. They have one with over 200,000 rounds and it’s still up and running. An AR could never achieve that round count. When they held the military trials to replace the M4, the M4 had twice as many malfunctions than a Scar. So yes the scar does things better than an AR. To say an AR is just as good is disingenuous at best. The only reason is wasn’t adopted was because of cost (the contract always goes to the lowest bidder-see Sig P320 adoption.
Picked up my Belgian SCAR 17s for 2800.00. They have gone up in price (Around 3500 now). With optic, stock, trigger, and few other extras, I have over 5k in it now. Wouldn't part with it. I also have a CZ Bren 805 S1 I picked up for 1300.00. The only issue I have is the orifice around the gas block has some wear. Might get the Bren 2 in 7.62 x 39. Just wish they wouldn't have gone with proprietary mags in that caliber. Same with the Scar 17s and the FAL mags.
Charles Lowrey Same here, I would never part with my Scars. Most reliable guns I’ve had hands down. @@johns3924 ok... but if its still over-gassed, could you not drill an even smaller hole? I'd rather have a balanced system than the ability to turn off the gas system
John S I’m not talking about setting 2 I’m talking about the 3rd position it has no port hole and is a gas shut off which doesn’t have much of a practical civilian use unless maybe your a contract hit man lol. I’m saying drill a smaller hole in that position for a less gas suppressed setting.
John S because from the video the suppressed setting obviously is still way overgassed when you can run in the suppressed setting with the gas cut back and no suppressor on and it still is cycling with no issues. That means when you put a can on it will probably be way over gassed. A smaller port size would give you the ability to shoot it with a suppressor on and have a softer shooting less violent action. Then if it was really dirty you could switch to the regular suppressor setting 2.
RADIOACTIVEBUNY Mine is stock except a Geissele trigger and an ACOG. Mine has functioned perfectly over 3,000 rounds, but as a recreational shooter...nothing hard use.
I just hope that thicker barrel is Czech made and chrome lined. Hopefully it's not like HK's MR series where you are getting a US produced barrel. The handguard is for sure an HBI product to comply with the import requirements.
Love my P10C & my Scorpion & can’t wait to get my hands on one of these. Hopefully we get the Bren 2 BR in .308 in the near future too, I’ve been holding off on buying a .308 for that particular firearm.
The Virtus is the best thing SIG has done in along time, but the fact that it’s not completely ambi even at that price point baffles me. That’s one of the main reasons I lean towards my MS pistol especially as a left handed shooter, (I shoot both but I’m left eye dominant) that’s my main gripe with it. Other than that I still choose my Bren
Cosmetically I think the 805 looks a lot better than the 2. I know cosmetics are not what matters but the looks just got cheaper to me. I'll stick with my 805, but may be tempted by the 2 if and when the .308 comes out.
I agree 100% cosmetically the 805 looks like a military rifle and i like the lines of it. The bren 2, looks wierd to me with that long barrel out the front. The 11" is ok with the hb handguard but otherwise yeah definitly like the 805 looks better.
Position 2 is definitely less gas, you can tell just by the ejection pattern. I'd run a can in position 2 and not worry about it. This is a cool rifle, but CZ made some funky decisions.
This is a review many of us have been really looking forward to and as per usual Tim doesn't disappoint. One concern though is the gas settings, logic would seem to dictate that position 2 should be position 1 due to the smaller orifice. I plan on buying one.
Sexy rifle. I was able to shoot one a few days ago at a local range and was very impressed with it. It was lighter than the particular AR I had with me that day and the recoil impulse is so smooth.
I can hear the Cz designers sitting around talking, "so, should we go with a heavy barrel so fat americans can take our rifle to a class?". "What about the military application? Are we not designing this rifle for military service?" "Na...we are completely focusing on the US civilian market". I'm sure that is exactly why the chose that barrel thickness.
Wow what an incredible rifle! Amazing design, simple and effective action, no tools needed. I'm sold I'm getting one (probably the pistol version though). Perfect review Tim :)
The reason the gas whole is bigger on standard gas cycle is than on the pistol. That reason is, that the gas piston is longer and has more weight so they have to offset that to make it reliable under any condition. Well at least that my theory.
Pretty nifty looking carbine. That one actually looks like one I might be interested in picking up except for one little $2,000.00 issue. Oh well, can't win em all.
Michael Srite - it means that when Tim said the gun is $2,000, my brain went, “...it better be as good as the MCX...”. And a second later Tim said almost the same thing. And then I thought that was funny, and so I wrote it here. Because it happened... Literally.
I love my bren 2s, currently my favorite rifle/pistol. I plan on getting a carbine at some point but man I really would have preferred a lighter weight barrel vs the heavy they decided to go with. I'm sure they could have knocked off a pound from the weight if they did which I would value more. Bren2s are surprisingly light weight and very comparable to standard AR15 weights
@@sadnessinside123 Id highly recommend you look up faxon barrel tests. Modern manufacturing has vastly improved heat dispersion issues to where on something like a general purpose combat rifle the slight increase in group size after you mag dump a couple magazines is negligible.
I think the barrel is thicker for the 7.62 version so to save money. Instead having 2 different gas blocks one for 7.62 and one for a thinner barrel 5.56.
The MSBS GROT looks like a great rifle. Last I read they had intended to open a distributor in the US but the deal fell through. No idea if we'll see them state side or not.
Overall the gas system on the ms2 is superior to the 805. The off position could be used for a precision shot regardless of being suppressed. No gas, bolt won't move. Bolt gun. Just sayin. Some are considering methods to have the ms2 regulator properly drilled to match their suppressor or for minimum gas, etc. The internet jury is still out on this. Ergos on the ms2 are exceptional compared to the 805, but the simplicity of the 805 is something often overlooked. The 805 trigger is increadible for an OEM item. The ms2 isn't too far behind and upgrades are already available. Great Channel !!!
Why is everyone calling the CZ Bren a SCAR copy or Czech SCAR? I thought the design was based on the HK G36. I think I read something like both the SCAR and the Bren are heavily influenced by the G36.
I really like that and might get one. I better pay attention how to reassemble it, 19:35 "hey is that a butterfly on the rest bag? I think it's one of be those red and black ones. Hey wait, the wind blew it, I think it's a tag. Hmm, I better keep paying attention to it to double check that it's for sure a tag. What was I paying attention to now?"
Beauty is defiantly subjective, I think it looks really nice with the barrel, handguard, and break. Something I don't like though it for roughly $2,000.00 you don't have any factory sights. I know most people are going to use optics, but IWI puts at least some cheap flip sights that are integrated into the rail, I don't know why more manufactures don't do this as well. The gun already is kind of pricey, but then the added expense of an optic or some cheap irons I don't know why more people don't copy the Tavor/IWI in that aspect.
Hi, Tim, I hear you've had range time with an American Defense 6.5 Grendel out to 1000 yds. Could we ADM buyers get a couple reviews and maybe a Gauntlet test? Thanks, Joe
Tim, from video games to guns to dungeons & dragons, many companies are listening less and less to their customer base about product design. I don't know why except they're going for what's more profitable and easier to produce, piss on what the customer base wants. I really like this gun and will be picking up my first CZ firearm, a Scorpion, after this shut down is over. I put it in lay away so as not to lose it to someone else. I understand that there is a large aftermarket for parts on the Scorpion that people don't like them stock as much as they should. This company attitude seems to carry over into the Bren as well. Great guns but goofy aspects that don't consider the desires of the customer. Oh well, maybe that will change soon?
The hand guard looks out of place but at least its aluminum. Throw a grip and light on it and call it a day. Not a fan of the spring on the op rod, those tend to break over time, I prefer the SCAR 16 simplicity in the short op rod design.
@@caneloweight175weightdrain5 I agree the Bren is better overall, just noting I like the simpler op rod design on the SCAR's. I sold my SCAR's but had a 16 and 2 17's, I briefly had the 805 but didn't much care for it. I was looking forward to this rifle being released. Years ago I had an LWRC with the spring cup piston, let me just say, no thanks. This one might be fine and last out, time will tell. Even on the new SIG Virtus the op rods are short and simple, no springs. I like that design.
I have both, beside the weight penalty of the Virtus. The control of the charging handle is superior on the Virtus. Notice how he mount the optic far back toward stock? that because you will need room to operate side charging handle. if you move it to the right side you will have potentially bump your finger on the shell deflector.
Personally, I'd prefer the firing pin to be a shade thicker for strenght. But that's just a minor thing. Overall It seems like a superior weapon to most out there. Though, I've yet to handele and fire one.
$2000 MSRP, so roughly an $1800 gun street price. Compared to a Scar 16 at $2600 street, and its myriad flaws, CZ has a winner! Even more market share has opened up, too, with the demise of the ARX100, and ACR.
Got mine today and had to file a warranty claim, have a part that is chipped. It's on the inside of the buttstock. Sad... hope cz replaces it or fixes it kind of disappointing that I haven't even taken it to the range yet :(

26:02 - Literally, when you mentioned that it’s $2,000, I thought to myself, “...it better be as good as the MCX (Virtus)...” 👍🏾😁
Bren2s are surprisingly light weight and very comparable to standard AR15 weights
if its lighweight what would a lighter barrel do give you a over heated innacurate barrel during rapid fire?
Yes it would be less accurate as it heats up.
@@sadnessinside123 Id highly recommend you look up faxon barrel tests. Modern manufacturing has vastly improved heat dispersion issues to where on something like a general purpose combat rifle the slight increase in group size after you mag dump a couple magazines is negligible.
"pistol". Hehehe... God I love this country.
Wish I could get the pistol with that thicker barrel. Oh well, I'll just get the rifle. Looks perfect.
Answer, yes
I think the barrel is thicker for the 7.62 version so to save money. Instead having 2 different gas blocks one for 7.62 and one for a thinner barrel 5.56.
Will they be bringing out a rifle version in 7.62x39? Would be a sweet AK alternative
If they do I'll buy one
That's what I'm waiting on
While we're talking about Slavic rifles has anyone heard anything about the FB MSBS?
The MSBS GROT looks like a great rifle. Last I read they had intended to open a distributor in the US but the deal fell through. No idea if we'll see them state side or not.
@@danielc4891 cheers, I'm actually planning on a trip (possibly moving) to the Czech Republic. If I find any intel on it I'll give an update
How does it stack up to the Vertis AND ~$2k AR15s? I think this is always a fair question to ask in these price ranges.
Vertis?? Do you mean virtus
Love me some CZ's !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for showing the CZ BERN 2Ms carbine , Tim. I just wish that i had the budget to get one.
The features on this weapon fixes everything wrong with the M4 and the SCAR
Says someone who doesn’t even own a SCAR lmao
@@novajam1769 Ive used them.
They should've made it as close to the military version.
Shout to Big Daddy, great selection. Love the Sams Club comparison. Thanks for another great review.
Why is everyone calling the CZ Bren a SCAR copy or Czech SCAR? I thought the design was based on the HK G36. I think I read something like both the SCAR and the Bren are heavily influenced by the G36.
My biggest complaint with my 805 was the weight. It was a heavy gun. Is the 2 any better?
By all accounts it looks like CZ knocked another one out of the park
Looks like an ACR to a degree. Looks awesome and I heard the Bren just works and works well.
Wonder if the heavy barrel is just a cost cutting measure so that they can use the same barrel blanks for 30 cal and 5.56
Makes sense to me. Probably see a 7.62x39 version soon
A nearly 30 minute long video about CZ... Please and thank you
Nice Tim... if you put the B2 barrel on the 805 I think you'd have a winner...
Think I like the look of the pistol better.
Hi, Tim, I hear you've had range time with an American Defense 6.5 Grendel out to 1000 yds.
Could we ADM buyers get a couple reviews and maybe a Gauntlet test?
Thanks,
Joe
Love the sound of the gong hits, and thanks brother!!
From my Home Metroplex (specifically KC, KS), we give you the CZ Bren 2M Carbine/Rifle. 😁
The hand guard looks out of place but at least its aluminum. Throw a grip and light on it and call it a day. Not a fan of the spring on the op rod, those tend to break over time, I prefer the SCAR 16 simplicity in the short op rod design.
It's OK to meant that cz bren ms way better then scar i have both scar 16,17 but this cz bren way better the outdated scar.
I like that design.
canelo weight 175 Weight drain I’d have to disagree. I’d never get anything but a scar.
@@lunaticrider209 yeah just be careful were you place your hands on the scar lol you might lose your finger
canelo weight 175 Weight drain I put the charging handle on the right side and I never have to worry about the fingers lol
Let us know when you get a suppress on it and how it works thanks for the videos
Great looking option!
Question. If you see this mac. Which one do you prefer more. The bren 2. Or the virtus?
I have both, beside the weight penalty of the Virtus. The control of the charging handle is superior on the Virtus. Notice how he mount the optic far back toward stock? that because you will need room to operate side charging handle.
if you move it to the right side you will have potentially bump your finger on the shell deflector.
I'm still kinda surprised the Bren 805 wasn't designed with a bolt release.
2nd position on carbine is for supressed usage.
Is the barrel in the 16.5” thicker than the pistol barrel or are they the same?
Maybe the third gas setting is for launching rifle grenades on the military version? They just carried this feature to civilian model to save money.
I'd prefer the old 805. Plus wasn't the whole point of the Bren 2 was to be lighter?
You can clean the bolt on the bren 2 805 you can't lol but still go rifle tho.
Tim, any idea if the stock from the new rifle will mount on an 805?
Personally, I'd prefer the firing pin to be a shade thicker for strenght. But that's just a minor thing. Overall It seems like a superior weapon to most out there. Though, I've yet to handele and fire one.
The bren 2ms has one of the best OEM triggers
Agreed
$2000 MSRP, so roughly an $1800 gun street price. Compared to a Scar 16 at $2600 street, and its myriad flaws, CZ has a winner! Even more market share has opened up, too, with the demise of the ARX100, and ACR.
Got mine today and had to file a warranty claim, have a part that is chipped. It's on the inside of the buttstock. Sad... hope cz replaces it or fixes it kind of disappointing that I haven't even taken it to the range yet :(
Cz sent a return label now I wait until it gets back
Got it back. Works fine
Need to do more testing on it to see if I want to keep it
Glad to see a heavier barrel on rifles again. Everything has become a pencil barrel for super ninjas who don’t lift lol
Great review, lots of good info with the side by side comparisons and the disassembly showing the internal parts.
How rare is the origonal czech skeleton stock ?
Wheres the accuracy test?
