Thanks for the reviews. For my x17 r2, I think im just going to use the bag i had for my last laptop 2006 toshiba g35-av600 17". Now that was a beast of a laptop weighing 11.5 pounds.. it still works screen and all. Over the years ive been using it as a portable movie player watching movies from an external hard drive.

The commuter arrived yesterday and the utility should be here in a couple of days with the x14. Hopefully will be able to get them reviewed next week 👍
3:05 I used the biggest model of the M line, the M51, of which the Horizon Travel looks to be a refresh of, for high school last year, worked great for me except for the fact that the zippers (particularly the small ones, without the rubber loop thing) would break. I had one the year prior and they broke too, consistently. It's glad to see they changed it, that was really my only complaint with it lmao
Sir! You are reading my mind with all your videos! I was just discussing this with someone on Reddit explaining how much of a pain the alienware 17R5 has been to fit into normal 17inch bookbags. The x17s are much easier for me to fit in my bookbags. Someone recommended these Alienware bookbags. Perfect time for your review!

Many thanks! Good to see a reviewer use real laptops in these bags. The larger bag with the bulging top-half will put more weight on the neck instead of distributing the weight properly. Your content is timely as always!

@@MashITTech how do you feel about the travel bag after using it. I just received mine and it has no real padding on the arm straps. I carry my backpack 3 to 4 hours daily. You think I'm over thing the straps being a bit thin?
Pretty much what I was expecting- These are a step in the right direction. Still seeking something with zero labels myself.

Okay I’ve got my laptop today and it works perfect. I have an x17, it’s even a better fit for the x15.
The brand is new rebels, google shows the bag immediately if you search „new rebels backpack“

I believe that the Horizon Travel has the luggage handle pass through. The official video shows it being used. You can search for the official video and check for yourself.
I wish I would have heard about the A51 sooner! When did they stop supporting and why? I would love having a laptop like that, can’t really get a desktop because of my job so that would be nice
Any comments on the water resistance of these backpacks... I am planning to replace my current Razer Tactical Pro Backpack for when I buy a new laptop.. probably later this year... And that backpack has an integrated deployable rain cover... which is a must have in my country cause it rains a lot here...
How do the horizon compare to the vindicator? Still currently using the vindicator love the size and storage but the zippers are starting to stop working debating on either buying a new one or trying the horizon

I bought the Slim backpack cause I had a Alienware sleeve which is nice but wanted a backpack for carrying my charger and headphones. My G15 Dell Gaming laptop should fit nicely in the backpack.
Thankyou for reviewing the bags. I’ve recently purchased an Alienware M15 R4. Which bag would you recommend would fit this model? I’m tempted by the Horizon travel bag myself, as I’m looking for a bag that I can also put the power supply & headphones in etc
Have you also checked my part 2 of the bags video? I looked at the commuter and utility in that one and put all four together: ua-cam.com/video/Eawf3Klf4q4/v-deo.html I prefer the utility as I thought the traveller was too big for me, the utility is a little thinner but you also get the external pockets. If you regularly go away and need to take a lot of gear then the traveller is the winner

None of the new range fit 🥺 the older vindicator 2 17” backpack does fit it though

I would've liked to see if you could fit the Area 51 in those bags in the main compartments. Particularly because they've launched the M18 which they do not have bags designed for yet, and they surely won't fit into the laptop sleeve compartment, but they might still fit the main compartment.
Thanks for a great video as I will need a bag when my x17 arrives. Like you to protect my laptop from scratching. I put mine in a sleeve then the bag.

Yes it should go in if the sleeve is a s if fit in the x17. If I can just about cram a area 51m in there it shows there is a little extra room around the laptop 👍

Yes it sure would. My only concern would be keeping the zen screens safe (ie not caused between the weight of the laptops etc. I have the 17" ROG XG17 which is an amazing portable external display but the case they give you to protect the screen is terrible

Yeah I like travels millions of pockets but the slim is probably the most useful for day to day 👍

These are a nice - I was looking for a solution to carrying my m15 r4. Currently I am using an Incase backpack stowed inside a Patagonia Black Hole backpack because it doesn’t fit in the designated computer pouch of either of the two bags. Less than ideal for travel.
yeah they are not the easiest of machines to transport with that extended rear vent
What is type of cover fabric? If it is denier polyester, what is the grade ? These info is really important to tell how durable the backpack is. Dell gives no info !
Dell did make an Area-51m Elite backpack. I have it and it's been pretty good so far. The model number is (AWA51BPE17).

Sorry for the late comment, but how is the padding for the slim vs utility? I'm planning to take the bag on the plane and I would like to take the slim but I'm worried that the padding is not protective enough. Because I'm a tall person I like to rest my feet on my backpack at times on the plane so doing that with the travel bag has been a challenge due to the top zipper design. I would like to have more room for my legs but don't want to damage the laptop
the utility is definitely more sturdy but the slim was still pretty solid. Not sure I would want to rest my feet on it though

Yes the travel bag is massive. Love all the pockets but I would find it too big for daily use. I am also looking forward to the utility arriving and will do the video asap
@@MashITTech Look forward to it- Ive been watching your videos and was originally going to purchase X15R1, after seeing your thorough review I ended up going with the X17R1 as a better solution when connecting a 4K monitor and much better thermal performance. Once I get the new laptop with the help of your videos I plan on under volting and over clocking to maximize the performance. Always been a console gamer and looking forward to stepping into PC gaming but have a lot to learn. Thanks again for all the help.
looking at getting an everki bag myself. they certainly seem to be better than these. can't decide between the concept 2 and onyx 17.3 would be awesome if you took a look at those as there is really only one small company advertising video on youtube for them

Nice that for those that basically just need these to get these laptops to work or through an airport sans cameras and such there's an option.
The problem is those who need to use the same bag to haul cameras and then have the cameras easily accessible. Why the hell do Crumpler, Lowerpro, Tenba, etc assume everybody only uses Macbook Pros.
Considering how airlines are restricting carry ons nowadays that you can't have a backpack/messenger plus a roller bag anymore on some flights (that was back in 2019; I'm not so sure they'll roll this back when travel restrictions are back to normal ie just plain Statist levels) being able to get the expensive computer and camera+lenses in one bag is very important. Oh and thanks to 9/11, I've actually learned to keep my tripod clean and make it last, since I have to check in the damn thing for some reason.
I know what you mean, those bags all have slim/tiny laptop compartments! In your case I have no idea what to suggest I am afraid as I know how important the camera storage sections are!
@@MashITTech I'm all out of ideas too, but if I'm gonna point fingers, I figure I shouldn't stop at bag manufacturers thinking everybody uses a Macbook and Alienware thinking very thin with long arse end is a good idea, but go point at two more that are making this a problem:
1. Miners.
The last time I really did any serious gaming on a laptop before the recent human malware problem, I was one of the few idiots walking around the campus with one of those oversized, very rectangular, zero ergonomics bags from Best Buy. Why? Everybody was on a Mac that fits in even a large handbag; I'm one of the idiots who take a break from studying by plugging in and playing a round of DOTA or Unreal Tournament. That 17in HP was a PITA to haul around (worst part: the size to batt life ratio was really bad) but it was college, had to play right in there. After college it was all non-gaming laptops, and at some point "Ultrabook" became a thing too at about the same time I decided to get digital cams (used to have a Canon rangefinder but film was a PITA; although running without batteries was great) so the bags worked great.
Now I'm about to move and hauling an old Skylake-Pascal rig seems like a total PITA so I'm considering laptops.
2. Airlines
Normally I don't really need my X100 and X-T10 plus four lenses in the same bag as the laptop all on my back (I barely did that even with ultrabooks). But last time I boarded a plane Q4 2019 there was a strict "1 carry on bag only," unlike before when I could have a roller bag and a backpack/messenger bag. If I can have two pieces on me I could just get a very padded sleeve for a gaming laptop and stash it between layers of clothing in my roller bag (so it has extra dampeners vs the metal parts on the roller bag), but no. And as it is I'm already paranoid enough about checking in a bag with a $150 tripod; a $2,000 laptop that might get smashed or stolen by luggage handlers will just make flights more uncomfortable.
Just a thought but what about a large laptop bag with a camera bag in the front compartment? The horizon travel for example has a massive front pouch for clothes etc, I think you could fit all your camera gear in there but not sure how large a bag you can use for carry on these days?

Soon, I stupidly put it on the same order as the x14 and thought they would send them separately, turns out they are holding my bags up until the x14 arrives! Good news is it’s on its way now

I kept the utility which is my second bag review as I tested all 4 bags released this year. I have used the utility daily and apart for some grubby marks on the bottom where I dump it on the floor it looks pristine

I was excited to get an MSI backpack but unfortunately didn’t survive it’s first trip in the luggage area of a bus. It came apart at the seams.

Out of the 4 bags I kept the utility model which I show in the other bag video. I have used the bag daily to carry my x17r2 and loads of peripherals and it still looks fantastic!

Good question! I would say they are water repellent. If I get a chance I may give one a test

There is a horizon travel for the 18, it won’t fit in any of the other bags, I tested them all

They haven’t made a messenger bag for the horizon range (at least there is nothing in dell U.K.) they all seem to be backpacks
@@MashITTech yeah i was wondering if they ever made one for the new series even in other markets, i can't even see it in the US dell store. i think they should always make 2 versions, one as a backpack, for school and travel, and one as a messenger bag for professionals and people who have to work and use them for work during the day, and play during the evening.
So id have to wear a backpack with a suit? Thats alittle unprofessional dont you think. Wouldnt the weight ruin the seams at the shoulder area. It would definitely ruin an expensive suit fabric over time, let alone ruin any professional image.
If not, i guess the old messenger bag can fit the new laptop series, they did fit the older M15 and M17 and the new x14 x15 x17 is slimmer. You have the older vindicator messenger bag? Can you confirm if it fits?
Yeah, it certainly doesn’t look professional. In my previous job as an IT manager I was always supplied large messenger bags as they do just look more professional. The old messenger bag will fit the new range just fine as the are slightly smaller 👍
@@MashITTech Thats great your in IT, you know alot about computers, i would have probably guessed you studied and worked in IT. I work in corporate treasury, its a finance and investment role, so im mostly using excel and spreadsheets and TMS and others for financial modeling and forecasting. Thanks for confirming the older series fits, i might order it together with the laptop.

@@MashITTech Had to look it up. I use the Orion Messenger. Its a decent bag but with my 51m r2, options are slim.
New fabric can be tested in the freezer of the refrigerator, bad fabric may crack

Could be just me, but the AW bags just scream "Steal Me!". Makes it too obvious you've got a high $ device inside.
I recommend Everki packs. They are really good quality, no strange materials or cheap construction. And most importantly, they area gamer pack without any indication or brand recognition. So it feels safer overall to carry.

I'll keep my M17 Elite mobile bag. Travel bad seems like a downgrade to me.
Lenovo backpacks are much better value and fit the 15" laptops with extended backs as legions have the same design, 17" too

Dell scamming the market, designing laptops that no fit, and creating a new laptop backpack segment, its both hilarious and ridiculously evil. Considering the STUPID RIDICULOUS cost of these laptops they should make these laptops “bags” free and included.
Yes they really should. I remember the days when you bought an alienware you got a cap, mouse mat and lovely documentation printed out in a book. Now you get the laptop and psu!

I dont like this fake leather cover. I got a HP Gamer Backpack with the same and tear so easly, no matter what. Its realy not a smart choice, special for a backpack.
This worried me too. I have used the Horizon Utility every day since receiving it and so far so good. But will keep people posted if I have any issues
