I went with the Travel based on your past review. Fits the X17 R1 beautifully! I ordered both the Travel and the Utility, but ultimately needed more space. Thanks for your vids, mate! As always, great reviews!

So, I ordered the backpack and I'm not thrilled with it. While I like the configuration, I'm not so thrilled with the material it's made of. It feels like a high school kids backpack, quality wise. Right down to the zippers. Granted, in my work I am accustomed to carrying the best tool bags which are built much better of course. But even my Origin PC backpack is built much better. I have 2 alienware laptops I plan to carry in it, I want them protected. I will probably send it back and look elsewhere. Who would of thought Alienware wouldn't make a suitable backpack for their higher end laptops.
Thanks, very useful review! I bought the commuter yesterday and your review has helped me know I made the right choice. I was torn between the commuter and utility but won't be needing the extra space that the utility has. The utility I feel it's the more aesthetically pleasing of them all!

I bought the Alienware Horizon Utility backpack directly from Dell (I guess that's the only place currently where you can buy it) and can safely say that this bag is really nice and comfortable. Very large and spacious main cabin but wanted to touch on a couple of things that I may concern buyers about this bag:
1. Couldn't they have made the inside a lighter colour? Would have made it a lot easier to see items in a dimly lit environment if it had RGB lighting installed like their laptops. (I kid but at least give it a lighter shade of black)
2. The water bottle stretchy pocket on the side is way too shallow to hold anything larger than 17 liters.
3. The laptop compartment or sleeve could've used a velcro strap to securely keep your gear from sliding out just in case.
Other than those nitpicks, this is a solid day to day backpack which I can bring into an office environment and not be looked upon as a gaming gig bag. The construcion is well made, zippers are smooth and the pockets inside and out are nicely made. Lastly, the bag will stand up on it's own which is great.

Great review @Mash IT ! Have been eyeing Horizon Utility bag, and it's looking like a winner, by the way wanted to ask if the laptop sleeve is suspended (did not hit the bottom of the bag) ?
Yes the sleeve is suspended so you have the sleeve base padding plus the laptop base padding. It is very well secured

Question about the Utility Bag: Is there enough padding to protect any accessories say a keyboard or headset from damage when you put the bag on the floor? I know there’s enough padding for a laptop that fits in the main compartment but I’m curious because I want to keep my gear protected. Thank you!

Hello Sir David, thank you so much for the review. ^^ I am planning on picking one of these up in the future, though I would like to know, How is the water resistance of these backpacks? I am particularly interested in the Utility Backpack as well as the Travel Backpack, I would like to know how well those two bags could protect it's contents in the event that I would get caught out in heavy rain. Are the zippers water resistant? Would the laptop be safe even if I get caught in the rain?
Dell are quite vague about its water resistant properties. When I get a bit of spare time I will hose one of the bags to saturate it and test for resistance

No sorry, area 51m r2 does not fit any of the horizon range 😢 I actually tested it in my first horizon video
Great review on all bags. Except I just got m18 and it seems there are no current Alienware bags that it fits in? :( Have we heard if one is coming that will fit?
Thank you. Dell do offer an 18” version of the horizon travel which allegedly fits. I haven’t tested it personally though
Do you have a list of options for the M18 laptops? Suprises that's the only one I find looks weird and not clean and simple. Been trying to find a sleeve for it.
I really like the dell gaming backpack which fits the x17 r2 and a bunch of other stuff for half the price of the Alienware backpacks
I was considering this one, but the lid like top made me give up, also the "RGB" reflective material on the front. But the price is way more accessible than the Alienware bags indeed

Excellent review, those bags are perfect for traveling, but backpacks are not so elegant compared to a shoulder bag. Do you have a recommendation for a shoulder bag that looks good to take to the office? For traveling hands down the backpack, the freedom is awesome, but for the office, something a bit less school boy look. Thanks

In the backpack AW523P fits an Alienware Area 51m R2
Have you tested that? I couldn’t fit my 51m r2 in the bigger traveller bag so I didn’t even try with the utility

Haha well spotted! working on the review as we speak :) Yes the backpack fits the m17r3, the only laptop it won't fit is the area 51m. And no, Dell have stopped including the separate accessories pouch

Would this bag fit an R2 15? I want to change my Vindicator
sorry one more question. I have the vindicator 2.0 17 inch and would like a more compact bag. Is the commuter noticeably smaller?
Yes massively smaller 👍 the vindicator even fits my area 51m whereas the horizon range won’t, plus it’s slimmer
Just returned the Commuter because my X17 R2 didn't fit properly - really tight and the zip was catching on the corners. The Travel bag looks too big for me. Is the Utility any better than the Commute? Think it only needs an extra centimetre over the Commute for it to fit perfectly. Could just be a badly stitched bag of course.
Oh that's odd, my commuter was snug but it did fit ok. The utility is more roomy and there is a little space around the X17r2. The utility was my favourite of the 4 and the bag I now use daily 👍

What's sad is now the communter is no longer available except on eBay :( What bag would you recommend for someone who likes to game but has the X14?
Have you looked at the utility? I tested all the bags and I ended up keeping the utility, it’s a good size and has a great number of pockets
hello Mash IT, may i ask the net weight of aw523p and aw423p ? if they have small gap , i will buy the 523, otherwise consider the 423 because the m16 is pretty heavy, want to make the balance with backpack :)
I just found the aw523p and aw423p in the retail shop, the weight of aw523p is 1.5x of aw423p, so my choice is the aw423p yet. :) however, the aw423p can match with M16 but it is little tight.
The alienware horizon commuter does look more useful, but it is ugly lol. I guess I'm now realizing I'm a bit of a backpack nerd lmao. I like them just big enough to hold my x15 and with enough space for work binders and maybe a mouse, water bottle etc. without being too deep. It shouldn't be protruding too far behind me

No sorry. None of the new horizon range fits a area 51m 😢 tested it in my first video on these bags

You are probably going to want to get a decent 18" laptop bag. The bag I used to use (Belkin slim 17") has been discontinued :( it does fit in the Alienware vindicator 2 17" if you can still get hold of those

I don't like Alienware laptops because their horrible cooling design, but their backpacks design are always on point. Alienware backpacks are never disappointed. I just wish Alienware make their logo hidden and not easy to see. The logo just scream please steal me. I'm carrying expensive stuff in this backpack.

Too bad you didn’t use an X17 to show how it would fit. I’m sure most people have an X17 than 15 and 14. We now just have to take your word that X17 fits.
Check out my first video, I used the X17 and X15 in that one. All 4 of these laptops have the same size laptop compartment, the only real difference is the depth of the bag that I showed at the end of the video

@@MashITTech I like the advanced Optimus on x14 and bigger battery and keyboard is probably better than blade
@@GerryReid ok, keyboard is still great on the x14. Cpu is amazing but gpu is way behind blade 14. If you are planning to mostly game I would get the blade 14 with 3070 and qhd. If it’s for work and play then the x14 is a good choice

The utility is just trash, if your shoulder is not perfectly flat, it will press so hard on your shoulder like a thin line.
oh that's weird, I have been loving the utility! its been my main laptop bag for the last few months!
@@MashITTech just got it and have to return it, the straps are really bad really hurts my shoulder... I have been used tens of backpacks and I never thought one backpack can have the straps so much like ropes
