I don't really give a crap whether Ken Tamplin sings live or not and how many backing tapes he uses, but I've got to say: Fil's analysis is evenhanded and technically well-rounded, he goes out of his way not be nasty or character-assassinate people and it all equates to responsible music journalism to me. Keep up the good work.
I believe Tamplin's ego regarding his vocal ability is too big to allow him to be honest about what he has done. He has sacrificed his integrity in order to convince his fans that he is not like other human beings and has no vocal flaws because his vocal chords are special and not subject to aging.
@@RSVPiniAnd worse, he lies when he tells prospective customers that he can teach them how to have perfect voices, too, and then shows one of his lip synced videos as proof. It's literally fraud.
I was a casual Fil fan before all this. And now I'm a huge fan. This kind of fair analysis, delivered without rancor or nastiness, is so rare these days. Well done, Fil.
I started watching Fil after I ran across his channel & I've enjoyed hearing different singers & the way he breaks down what's going on. I don't know who this kind guy is, never heared of him before, don't like his attitude & really don't like his music.. live, mimed, lip sung, or prerecorded! Bit I will say it's been fun watching him try to stay above water when all Fil has done is point out a few things about Ken's performances that can't be denied. & doing it all casual like because he don't need dramatic drama while Ken is struggling with every thing he's got. It's been kind of funny. Just like when you catch the lier & they start pointing out everything that makes absolutely no sense about anything while hoping no one sees the truth! GREAT JOB FIL!
Fil, you tried to get the truth out and maybe even concern for someone else and ended up having to use YOUR PROGRAM to explain the outcome is beyond sad...Just heard you say you're not in the USA and I wasn't aware of that.. ...All this to say that I completely believe YOU and I don't think you need to further your actions...Keep YOUR good attitude and know that YOU are believed..Wishing nothing but good things and peace coming your way! Your integrity is untouchable. You’ve never said a bad word against anyone, just objective analysis and total honesty. You’re a rare bird these days and it’s a big reason why we love you. Keep on being you and doing what you you do. Kudos Fil!!
Your honesty, integrity and musical talent are why your channel grows by leaps and bounds. Thank you for bringing the voice of reason to the recording industry.
You're one of a kind Fil. Critical thinking is at a shortage. Have you seen the female lawyer's video backing up your video on copyright theft by UA-cam fakes. She just reinforces your integrity and knowledge! Thank you from the USA!
I just think we should all appreciate how Fil has taken such an honest approach to this topic. He hasn't in any way tried to shame or pass judgement over Tamplin, he has simply shown us the data and why things don't add up. The hate he has received has been unwarranted and flat out unfair. Fil, if you read this, keep doing what you're doing. You're one of the good ones.
That's ok, I will. He lied and did his level best to deny this and is only coming clean to cover what's left of his backside. He's a scoundrel, and should never be trusted.

I don't think the course is trash, it has some value, specially for beginers (ex: he talks about voice recovery, voice recording and song composing besides the singing), but at the same time, a beginer wouldn't have the knowledge to know what is best and what is not. Or that was my case at least
And like Fil said, this wasn't an attempt to gain viewers (but I'm sure he wouldn't mind!) or prove someone wrong, but that they're not being honest. Like he said, once you tell one lie, you just keep digging yourself farther into a hole.

In addition, I played several musical instruments growing up and have always been an avid listener of rock music. I detected pretty early on that there was something amiss in Ken Tamplin's videos, and it is refreshing to see the sound science presented here in this channel to set the record straight. Thank you.
I 100% agree. I have been doing studio and live sound for 30 years. His comment that he was singing along with his own vocal creating a doubling effect is an absolute lie. The latency was consistent all the way through - this is impossible for a human being. Some words or parts of words would be in sync and some would be out of sync. If Ken just said: Yeah I'm getting a bit older so I'm using a little help on a couple of parts with high notes. Then everyone would shrug and say: yeah no big deal, that's understandable. Now he's lying himself in all kinds of trouble for absolutely no reason
I guess his problem is that he just couldn't say that without undermining his teaching. Which as far as I understood suggest that following his method let's you maintain your range as you age.

If he said that right away it would have been fine. Since he didn't, Fil actually uncovered that even in 1990 he was miming. I dunno, 30 years ago he needed help with the lead vocals? Something is still strange about it
@@patrickjordan2233 Yes, and as @ryanmattie974 pointed out, Ken even mimed as far back as 1990 (actually 1989). The problem is his selling point is access to incredibly high notes, and yet we find out that he uses backing LEAD vocal tracks for the high notes when performing live.
No matter how much Tamplin might argue that videos like yours are clickbait, your patience and objectivity disprove that accusation. I am always-ALWAYS-impressed by the way you consistently point out that you are not making subjective comments. You go out of your way to make abundantly clear that you aren’t saying Tamplin can’t sing or can’t play the guitar, just that, in these instances, he isn’t singing/playing live. This clarity is your greatest strength, Fil, and it is why I have so much respect for you.
Kens nose was growing when he said he was asked to be the Singer of Foreigner ,journey, Motley Crue etc . Ken is like that little Kid in the playground telling stories that never happened.
Phil. I’ve been watching your videos for some years now. I’m always impressed with your analysis and demeanor. Ken Tamplin popped up in my feed during Covid lockdown. He’s a defensive and a hard-to-watch narcissist. He’s dug a hole for himself and should stay there.

The funny thing is I actually noticed Ken miming the guitar years ago but didn't think much of it because I could relate to not being able to record properly in front of a camera. But denying it is another thing.
Well played, Fil. And no, your video didn't feel like it went on forever but was so packed with facts and sense (and good humour) that it was over before I knew it. It was clear and heart felt and you can walk away with your head held high.

I didn't realize how off he was until you showed us, but I still knew. As for his singing - well, all I will say is that I feel sorry for his students. @@carr0760 that’s probably true. But then that opens up another mystery. If he recorded the solo on a 24 fret guitar (and he appears to be good enough to record the solo comping multiple takes before hand), why not mime the guitar playing using a 24 fret guitar?

I am a studio engineer with decades of experience, and it looks to me like you are on solid ground here; using scientific methodology and using it properly. I was struck by Mr. Tamplin saying, "That is me singing". That comment is a sidestep which does not at all disprove your point: if he patched in some of his previously recorded studio vocal tracks to cover errors or flaws in his live performance, well yes, he can honestly say "that is me singing". The problem of course being that it does not address whether it is him singing live at the time of the performance. The guitar playing examples were quite telling as well. I think your research is solid. Thank you for the videos.

First, thank you for your integrity. We are in extremely short supply of integrity right now. Integrity takes a lifetime to build, and a moment to lose. So thank you for consistently having it. Fil, I've always known that you take an objective and honest approach in your analysis videos. To me, it doesn't sound like Ken Tamplin has "come clean" about his miming. It sounded more like he was rationalizing and being retaliative; the latter of which I now understand why you needed to make this video. It's too bad that he disrespected your integrity; apparently he has none. You brought the voice of reason and respect as well as the objective proof in this video. I'm not into drama either so I'm glad you decided to move on to other analysis videos. Thanks for all you do, and for being YOU, Fil!
This whole thing is crazy. I've met Ken several times and heard him sing and it's not that he can't sing or play guitar. It's that on many videos he does lipsynch and mime playing guitar. So many artist habe done this. Saying that has not happened and everything is live is wrong. I really love Ken's music. FIL I do believe there was zero malice in your videos on this whole thing. Your videos are amazing and on point and honest. I'm an even bigger fan of yours now FIL! Thank you for your honesty and showing the reviews of certain videos. Keep doing what your doing! You are full of integrity and honesty. Rock on Fil!
His admission is a lie. The recorded track was set roughly at the same volume as the moments he is singing, so they knew beforehand and rehearsed it that way; Ken would be silent in some moments, where lead vocals would do the job and Ken would sing when the lead vocals WOULDN'T be there. If all backing tracks (including some lead vocals in) were intended to be backing the band up , then we would notice the difference between the moments Ken's actually adding his voice to the backing tracks and when he ISN'T, which we DON'T. Also, it's something nearly impossible for the audience to notice, no matter if they are too close to the stage or not, because vocals don't come out of a particular amplifier like guitar or bass do so you can check it out by getting closer to that particular source, but they come out from the PA system, whose output is the same as the prerecorded tracks. As the band did its homework and did soundcheck, they had leveled out those vocals there. That's the proof that Ken actually did lipsync. If not, 2 things would happen: - People (live and from video footage) would hear both vocals going on (which we don't) - If, as Ken himself posted, he can't reach some notes and let the "backing track" do the job just in very few moments, then a difference on volume would be noticeable. which doesn't happen. We can see on the videos that he closes his mouth and vocals still can be heard with the same output level. Ken is still lying.

My son, a good musician and singer, several years ago started watching Ken's videos to work on his vocals. Definitely not saying he did not learn anything, but he soon saw some things himself that made him question some parts of what he was watching. At first he did not make a big deal that some of the playing and singing were recorded. His attitude was whatever, but he did feel, after someone made some comments, that something was not right. He started feeling uncomfortable from the honest side of things, and decided to move on. Honesty means a lot to him. Still, he had no proof, so he left it alone. Still, when I saw the first video related to this and sent it to him, he was very upset and said some not nice things. This had apparently been seething in him for a while. He was straight angry, saying, "I knew it! I'm glad there finally is some real proof!" I have watched Fil's videos for a good while, and within the last year have subscribed. It's one of the few things I watch pretty regularly. Truth and honesty are hard to find!

Is it fully lip-syncing if live vocals are mixed in? Ken Tamplin's defence is that his live lead vocals were heard the entire time, even when the additional pre-recorded lead vocals kicked in. For some reason, many seem to disregard that.
@@RockVeteran I actually like and follow Ken Tamplin and have learned a great deal about vocal technique from him. He explains things very well and does demonstrate the application of these techniques beautifully. The main thing I am deriving from the scrutiny is more related to his behaviors, such as deleting content because it is being scrutinized, and not being completely transparent about the live performances on the whole. It doesn't even matter that he sings with a track, since so many people are known to do this. It is a question of character and honesty. Image is a big deal in this industry, and it is very competitive. Ken has a brand and reputation to protect, so I definitely get that. My comment was more directed towards Fil, since he has felt he has had to answer to and create so many videos now, in order to defend and respond by re-presenting the compelling evidence. I am merely stating that some people want to be cast in a specific light and anything that threatens this, they will shut it down immediately. I just wanted to express my deep respect for the work Fil does as he tries to remove emotion and educate us with the facts. I enjoy what Ken does also, I just don't think he is ever going to "come clean" about these things because this is his very livelihood and either way....I have been learning much on both channels.
If there was a live lead vocal at the same time as the album vocal, it would throw off the pitch line as there would be multiple data points to plot simultaneously. It has also been proven by the phase invert analysis that Ken stops singing when the pre-recorded vocal comes in. So it's not a point being disregarded, it's just another dishonest claim unfortunately.

It's been kind of funny. Just like when you catch the lier & they start pointing out everything that makes absolutely no sense about anything while hoping no one sees the truth!

This is so funny. Poor old Ken has been caught out and me think the lady doth protest too much! Great work Fil, and yeah... Moving on now.
Ken with his right hand in the cookie jar: 'look at my left hand, it's not in the cookie jar'.
pfft lol
or, “experts have looked at me and counted nearly half a dozen of my fingers that are nowhere near the cookie jar”
Oh what a tangled web we weave.....
... and I would add, (and will have to change "the lady" to "he") He doth protest too much, methinks" (Ie: Ken)
ESPECIALLY when we practice to deceive.
If not, 2 things would happen:
- People (live and from video footage) would hear both vocals going on (which we don't)
- If, as Ken himself posted, he can't reach some notes and let the "backing track" do the job just in very few moments, then a difference on volume would be noticeable. which doesn't happen. We can see on the videos that he closes his mouth and vocals still can be heard with the same output level.
Ken is still lying.
Yup. There was no admission here. Just doubling down on lying and treating everyone as if they were stupid. Awful.
@M2Singing Hear Hear!
Yeah no admission, just trying to move the goalposts
He's a professional liar.
I'm sorry that you feel you have to address this situation. I've bee a subscriber for a very long time, and I always look forward to your knowledgeable, insightful, and objective videos from which I've learned so much. Keep them coming, Fil!!!
Man, I don't know you that much, but having watched a couple of your videos I admire your integrity, your pertinence, your intelligence and wisdom. I love the clarity by which you go and that you just stay on the line of truth and authenticity. Good job, brother, and thank you for doing what you do ! It's important, and much appreciated (by me at least, haha) !
That's why his subscriber base is growing.
As the saying goes, if you speak the truth, you only have one story to remember.
I never heard this but it's a very wise saying tbh
My Mum used to say something very similar!
@@lippi2171, there's also one that goes along the line of "tell one lie, and you need to tell more more to cover the first lie".

“Ken has just played a note that he doesn’t have on his fretboard.” Very much looking forward to the Christian miracle to explain this.
Your comment is truly enjoyable 😂👍🏻
Not that I believe Ken in the slightest, but as a non-guitar player, is it possible his strings are tuned up to be higher?
Good one, Ken's a Judas & he's committed career suicide for sure!
@@macgyveriii2818 no, because then the other notes would also be altered and they’re not. They would ALL be higher, not just that one high pitched screaming note in the solo. The relative positions of all the other notes would change.
@@thefonzkiss fancy seeing you here haha. always ontop of the lip syncing shenanigans!
You are honestly so adorable and wholesome. I love your energy and authenticity.
You are amazing. Give your honest assessment, paying no mind to insults or raised eyebrows. Your integrity will always show through. You are admired, respected and loved.❤
LOL.. I LOVED it when you identified he's mimicking playing a note he doesn't actually have on the guitar he is playing...CLASSIC ! If you're going to lie, Ken, use the correct instrument matey.
He should have owned up and got on with things. There's respect for honesty. BUT, he just made it so much worse..
Yeah! He's the wearing the emperor's new clothes...
He's a narcissist - He is never going to admit he was wrong or that he lied.
This is the Streisand effect

And it has two faces. Now I get a lot of videos from KT’s channel in my YT feed as well.
I am no musician or vocalist, but I love music and learn so much from watching your videos. Your honest and instructive approach is valuable to me. Thanks for making a difference in my understanding.
The effort you go through to explain (and demonstrate) things in a straightforward way is greatly appreciated. I already learn a lot from your videos, but they also have served as a springboard for me to go off and research and learn lots of things on my own. Thank you!

Thank you, Fil, for this analysis video. I know that you are an honest man and that all of your videos are honest and objective. If I thought you were a dishonest man, I wouldn't be here supporting you! I don't think your audience would be as big as it is! Thank you again for all you do for us and your channel! Thx Phil. You are the real deal, such a talent and likable person. Appreciate you.
He's a genuine , imitation legend in his own mind .
@@jimfritz2087 I was thinking the same 😁
Ken is the real deal, within Ken's perception of 'real'.
Perfect example of a narcissist
I just started watching your channel recently. I love it! That American news clip you skipped was a collage made years back to show that most mainstream and local news is a corporate product spewing the same biased message. I wish American mainstream news was as objective with all news as you are on your channel. I appreciate your hard work. This is very educational.
Both guys channel for some unknown reason pop up on my screen and so I've watched them out of curiosity here and there While I really don't care about either one, this Full guy comes across as a genuine kid, while the "proof is in the singing" always came across as huffin'&puffin' sort of guy, not genuine, irritating, full of himself narcissist.
I compared them instinctively with my Russian piano teacher who was a virtuoso, yet so humble, and the sweetest person you would ever meet in your life.
Fil - genuine kid who just wants to have fun
Ken - phony, stuck up , self- promoting bullshit artist,
I totally agree with your analysis and your approach on this. Keep up the good work! Rock!
Regardless of whatever he says as an excuse it still shows his narcissism. He does not have a humble bone in his body. He runs off of pure pride. pride.
As a Christian, he surely knows that's a cardinal sin. Well unless he's miming being a Christian as well.
@mipmipmipmipmip-v5x maybe another "Christian" can help him to surrender his sins to God.
He just played a note he doesn't have on his fretboard... hahahaha! WOW. This has been a crazy ride. Appreciate what you do!
The Lord gave him extra notes because He was so impressed with Ken.
Brilliant Fil you’re a star. I have been playing guitar for 40 years and can instantly tell his wasn’t playing. Left hand right hand coordination was way out of sync ..what a fraud.
Brilliant work exposing these conmen.
I sing, a bit, and don't know much about music, but I do appreciate honesty in all walks of life. After the last 5 years, it is hard to come by, but I have found it in you, Fil. New subbie here x
Sometimes, egos get in the way of one being capable of absorbing the truth. You were very clear from the get go that this was not a personal attack, but some people won't hear that. Stay genuine and factual. I learn a lot by your reviews and well respected by me by your straight and nonbiased commentary.
