2007 Monte Carlo LS4 Resonator Delete - Stock Mufflers

- This is a DIY instructional video on how to remove your resonator on a Monte Carlo SS. For now, I removed the resonator to get a better sound out of the exhaust, while still keeping the stock mufflers. Unfortunately, I have all the cats still on since we have inspections here, so no fancy downpipes etc.
Update 6/2017: I eventually ended up deleting the mufflers and running with just the Cats. Much louder and more racy....but too much rasp and drone. I ended up installing a 26" Cherry Bomb GlassPack back where the resonator was. (I already discarded my resonator) Sounds awesome now.
I wish you had shown the pipe being cut.
This is a ghetto way of doing a resonator delete, just spend a hundred bucks and go to a shop and have it welded in.
That car rust free underethe
That does sound really good I like it. I deleted the cat on mine but still have the resonator and muffler and it's still pretty much almost as quiet as stock lol. I'm probably going to delete the resonator as well but keep the factory muffler on.
Wish I could delete my cat. We still have testing here. Hey... If you want it to rumble louder, delete your mufflers and leave the resonator alone. The mufflers are what's muting the sound. It'll sound great with no mufflers. The resonator is needed to keep it from being raspy. I ended up putting a Cherry Bomb glass pack on because I discarded my resonator. I have a video on my channel on a dyno if you want to hear the current sound.
Wow! Underneath of this SS is very clean.
lmao i live in the same town (akron) ironic
Toowie fop the hill vs the v's
Too much rasp... if anything KEEP the resonator, delete the mufflers and delete the cat, or get a high flow cat....
OR keep all the cats, get a high flow resonator like ARROW and delete the mufflers. Just my 2 cents... deep gnarly sounds over tin can rasp anyday
wow. I literally just went to get am estimate to get mine deleted. 08 grand prix gxp. same engine and that sounds awesome. any tips? they're charging 75 bucks.
+Ajon83 I just did the resonator delete so far. I have the stock mufflers and tips still. The Stainless pipe and Band Clamps run about $44 from Summit Racing. You can check some local auto stores too. As long as you have a way to cut the resonator out, you shouldn't need anything else.
The delete did make it louder, especially when accelerating and up around 2000 RPM's. At idle, its a bit louder, but not annoying. I may try some louder mufflers, like Cherry Bombs or SLP Loudmouths.
Boomer501 did you notice anything like a check engine light, sluggish acceleration of stuttering when four cylinder mode kicks in?
Shawn King G™.... No check engine light. I removed mufflers and it sounds really good now. No check engine light either. In 4cyl mode, it sounds like a helicopter, so I just stay in 3rd gear drive. Getting an Overkill tune during the winter, so it'll be tuned out (the DOD).
Nice
I wish my 02 SS had the ls4, I'm actually within the same area as you are (Cleveland)
Supercharged?
No v8.
I removed both the mufflers but kept the resonator. still sounds pretty good
Was that the police coming to your house after resonator delete????? 😭😭😭😭😭😭 sounds great bro
Sounds great.
Lol I just put a 3" exhaust on my 3.8L check the video out but now I think it's too loud lol. I a need a muffler to quiet it down but can't be restrictive. Cool video👍
Sounds great!
Did removing the resonator change your gas mileage?
Steven Bartoszewski Not really. Since then, I've added a small Cherry Bomb glass pack back where the resonator was. Took the mufflers off, but it was too raspy. Has a great sound now. Very little drone.
cool. Not that i bought the car for the mpg more for fun but just curious.I just bought an 07 impala SS and was looking to take out the resonator for a little extra sound. good performance mufflers are pretty pricey.
Do this....take your mufflers off and leave the resonator. The resonator is just a flow-thru pipe anyway, it's not restrictive. You should get a real nice sound. (if you're leaving the cats on also) The resonator takes out all that drone and rasp. But, you'll get about a 40-50% increase in volume by deleting the mufflers.
Nice tutorial. I have a 2006 (same color as yours) that I put a CAI cold air intake on this past summer. Just ordered a Diablo tuner and this resonator delete is next on my list after Christmas. Thanks again!
I had a resonator delete on my 06 Impala SS. I did seem to notice a slight loss in power after I had it done. Now I got a 06 MC SS and it has a Muffler delete instead. I still have not hit it like that but a difference I notice is the resonator delete is more raspier where the muffler delete is not raspy but just lets the sound through and gets lower tones. Gas mileage is pretty good too. Only burnt a lil more that a quarter tank of gas traveling 15 miles a day to work for a week
I'm trying to find one of these for sale in Texas
Need the diameter for the pipe and also what is the diameter for the clamps
Joshua M 2.5 inches on the SS. Real easy to do.
Boomer501 thanks for the response
I have a stock '06. You convinced me to do the same. You spoke briefly about tuning to get rid of D. O. D. Tell me more please.
NJW1973... Over this winter, I'm going to send in to get an Overkill tune. That performance tune will take out the DOD.
If it’s not a v8, don’t bother.
Is this legal? I know va got some shitty laws
Can you please tell me the name of those stainless steel clamp and where you bought them?
Jay Pineda They are standard muffler band clamps, these are stainless ones. I got them from Summit Racing. Most auto parts stores sell them too, I know O'Reilly's does.
You should do a cruising video of the delete
Update: Removing the resonator brought up the muffler volume about 20% louder than stock. I have now removed the mufflers and have it straight piped. Much louder, sounds more racy. The drone isn't too bad either.

Man she sounds guuuuuuuud!!
Any check engine light?
No... Not at all. Just don't mess with the cats.
Dang much better. I have magnaflows on mines and I'm cutting my resonator this weekend
What does yours sound like?
@@Nava_2001 I ended up keeping my resonator but I did cut the mufflers. Sounds really good it's not super loud but it has a good tone. No drone either
will a resonator delete pass inspection.. PA specifically. +Boomer501
christopher ziello it should. I actually have a Cherry Bomb glass pack in place of the resonator now, and no mufflers. Sounds much better. We have EPA inspections here to in Cleveland, so it should pass okay. Just don't mess with the O2 sensors or cats.
what size pipe is that I have a 06 but wanted to make sure I get the right size pipe
Should be 2.5 inches. Wanna make it sound really good, leave the resonator alone and remove the mufflers. That's how I have it now. The resonator has very little effect on the loudness anyway.
I have flowmasters on it that's why I was wondering
I have a 2006 Monte SS. I deleted my mufflers. Is it a good idea to also delete the resonator as well?
Leave your resonator there. It doesn't restrict any flow, but if you take it out, it will make the sound real raspy. It'll sound like a broken muffler. My 07 now has no mufflers and I had to install a glass pack where the resonator was (because I tossed the resonator). It'll sound real good with only the mufflers deleted.
Boomer501 I found a cherry glass pack 2 1/2 inch at Auto Zone. Is that the right fit? Would u happen to have a video with the mufflers deleted and the glass pack in?
That's what I have. A Cherry Bomb glass pack. Just have to get the right length. I think mine was 26".
I have a video here from a Dyno run that you'll hear the exhaust wide open. It's on my channel here.
Stock exhaust sounds excellent.
Looks just like mine!
Sounds great, but the smoke?
Viktor Walkin.... That darn DOD needs tuned out.
Boomer501 I have the impala ss with the ls4 motor. for a while I used range active fuel management and it worked well. I just recently replaced the cam and now don't have the option for dod. let me tell you that once dod is gone you will love it so much more
Viktor Walkin wut does dod mean

I am a MASTER TECH.
Have a some fun.
What diameter of pipe was used ?
2.5". I did find out that the pipe just behind the flange is a tad smaller than 2.5. I had to go back under there and remove the clamp and wrap a layer of muffler tape around the pipe. The muffler band fits real nice now.
is the str8 pipe you replace same size as the resonator? will you need adaptors for the ends?
Straight pipe. 2.5". That is the stock size dir the front pipe on the SS.
Oh.. Just used standard 2.5" band clamps. I put a round of muffler tape around the stock side of the pipe to seal it well.
Boomer501 Did you stick the new straight pipe over the old stock pipe and clamped it or were they the same size and just had them touch surfaces and clamped it?
Used a band clamp and butted the pipes together. Had to put a round of muffler tape on the front side. The stock pipe is a tad smaller than 2.5".
@@Boomer501 2.5" inside or outside diameter?
