    Thanks guys. You're video saved me about $300. I was initially nervous about doing this job because Alldata procedures had me removing the stabilizer link, the tie rod and separating the ball joint from the knuckle. But your video showed me how to do it in a snap without doing any of that and without requiring a wheel alignment. I replaced the RH CV axle on my 2001 Buick Regal exactly the way the video showed. Took me less than an hour not counting the time to get the right sockets for the old axle nut and the new one.

    Great video. Very easy to replace removing the strut bolts. Hardest part is getting the new axle to pop into place.

    Here's a tip, jack up one side having it tilted to one side and the fluid will stay put when removing the cv axle, one side at a time you should be good and this goes for all vehicles that need cv axle replacement

      The kind words are just the truth. Too often people assume because the information is on the internet, the information is correct. Unfortunately this is not so. I have more college credit hours in Auto Tech than I do in nursing. I could and had built cars before attending tech school. I took and passed all 8 ASE exams in 1999 and 2000. Whenever I followed Mike Greens examples, I found a way to repair the problem quickly and safely. Most important is safety. Too often on instructional videos safety is not addressed. That behavior allows for tragedy. Also an improper repair does the same. So, thanks again for the videos.

    Is there a seal that can go bad on the inside where the axle goes in ?

  • @down4mah2

    So last weekend I replaced the sensor behind the harmonic balancer and after dropping the car and putting it in drive, the car wouldn't move. I tried every gear in my FWD but only one of the front tires will spin at a time and when accelerating, I can hear a loud clicking sound coming from the front tire.
    Jacked it back up to inspect the brake caliper pins, greased and cleaned them and put the car on jack stands. After putting it in either drive or reverse, only one of the front tires would spin at a time while idling. Cleaned the caliper with brake cleaner, banged on it a little with a hammer to hopefully loosen something up but still nothing.
    The car with almost 300k miles has been having problems with the transmission hard shifting and rarely slipping so I added a bottle of Lucas transmission slip. Could it be the transmission if only one of the tires is affected at a time? I noticed that either the driver side tire or the passenger side tire will spin at one time but they won't both spin together. Any ideas what it could be or how I could diagnose the problem? Could it be the CV Axle shaft? First only the front driver side tire would spin and the passenger side would slowly tick around when I had the car on jack stands but now the driver side won't spin but the passenger side will. I haven't done anything different. I've posted on multiple forums looking for ideas as to what the problem could be but nobody has responded yet.

    Hey 1A, I have a leak on my 02 impala(3800) it just started leaking where passenger CV axle goes into trans/differential(whatever this part is called) and keep having to add oil! So odd as I would nvr think oil could leak here. Maybe trans fluid or gear oil. But really need any info I can get plz. Your vids have helped me for yrs, i did change motor gaskets an rack an pinion a good 6months ago. But nvr had any issue. It's not coming from crank seal, when cv spins it throws it all over once driving up to bottom of power steering pump even(between motor/firewall). Thx

      Mez ball 34 mm axle nut

    • @beardoginit
      @beardoginit 6 років тому +2

      I needed a 35mm to get the old axle nut off and a 33mm to install the new cv axle I bought from 1A auto. I suggest taking your car to the parts store to see what size you need to remove the one that is on it now, then when you get the new axle, remove the nut and and take it in and do the same thing. Save yourself the hassle of finding out mid job.

    • @callmepokey1

      there about 3 different size nuts depending on who's axle it is. I believe all the threads are the same though so use your old nut if need be.

I could see trans fluid or gear oil leaking here but its 100% oil from rite where axle hooks in past rubber boots etc. Bad seal? Or will changing whole axle fix it, any info is greatly appreciated. I replaced the bearing on my 2010 Impala and had a hard time getting the CV axle to loosen from the bearing... so much so I put an old axle nut on the end and had to hit it with a hammer to loosen it up. Now it appears there is some minor vibration in the front end. Could this hammering have damaged the CV axle, even though it was rusted solid in the bearing?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  8 років тому

      +Ranger Rick Unfortunately it could have damaged it, yes. It's always advisable to use a rubber mallet as that will help to absorb some of those vibrations. Otherwise, you should soak it in penetrating oil (e.g. PB Blaster), wait a couple of hours, and then use a hub pulling tool.

    • @s1mph0ny
      @s1mph0ny 6 років тому

      Axles typically make more noise when turning. Usually when its a specific speed there's a motor mount issue, especially if it coincides with a shift point and on-throttle. You could double check this by shifting to 2nd or 3rd to avoid jumping into OD when you might otherwise hit it.

    Unless I was replacing a replacement axle (which I doubt), the axle nut is a 33mm. This was on a 2004 Monte.

    Excellent video and job. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!! C A U T I O N --------I watched 2 or 3 other videos and caught something worth considering.--------Before you loosen the 2 strut bolts to remove them , Scribe along on both the right and left sides of the holding bracket from bottom to top on the center piece ( steering knuckle ). When reinstalling , match the steering knuckle back exactly like it was by the marks before tightening. This procedure aligns your wheel and tire in the vertical position just like it was before removal. This keeps your tire from wearing on the inside or outside at the bottom. I think this has to do with cast and camber. I hope this helps.---Ernest E. Johnson

    is does this technique increase the chance that I'll damage the tension clip on the axel
    because I'll only have enough room to pry out the axel from 1 side
    instead of using 2 crowbars to fit behind the axel from opposite sides, so that i can pry it out with equal side to side pressure?
