    The New York accent really comes out when Shintaro says "collar" for whatever reason. For that one moment, he could pass for my uncle from Queens

    1:31 suddenly he goes full New York Italian "Hands comin' tuh-da colla!"

    That last setup with the guy taking the 2 on 1 to break your collar grip is pure gold!

      For sure. There are so few videos on kumi kata to leg grabs, likely because of the ban. This one in particular is perfect for BJJ where the double lapel break is still legal and common.

    This looks pretty badass. Thanks Shintaro. I really want to start doing judo to improve my standup since standup is nonexistent in most bjj schools.

    In Judo does it make any sense to practice throws with a speed dummy dressed in a gi?

    Shintaro-sensei, isn't your double leg takedown much more of wrestling rather than judo? The uke will fall in front of the tori for Morote-Gari while the double leg takedown in wrestling either the uke will lift the tori then throw right or left. Another version for wrestling, the tori will fall either left or right if the uke shoot normal.

    So I wrestle back in the day and we always did the penetrating shot and just like you did and turn the corner just like you did.
    My question is though isn’t there a version where you don’t do a deep penetrating shot?
    What I mean is is there a version with in judo where are you don’t Touch you knee to the ground at all.

      I don't know if this is what he'd recommend, but the last double at the end doesn't involve dropping to one knee. In a live match I feel like people don't always drop to one knee for a variety of reasons. The double can still work so long as you get deep enough.

    Hey mate, I'm just about to start Judo and want to focus on the most fundamental judo moves first.
    Just like the 80/20 pareto principle if you had to choose what would be the most fundamental judo moves to focus on?
    Cheers

    • @estogaza5827
      @estogaza5827 10 місяців тому +8

      There are often two main trees in judo with base being Seoi or Uchi Mata. Each then branches off. Like Seoi works well with Koshi Guruma. Harai off a failed uchi mata, or Taoi toshi. Which path you go down is sometimes based on height, taller players going with uchi mata. But it can be your preference too. Another way to think of it is pick a move that attacks them going back, forward, and side to side. For instance Osoto going back, seoi going forward, yoko otoshi to the side, and Sasae going to another side. Now you can attack in all directions. You can attack the opponent based on what they give you. Forward pressure, moving backwards etc. I’m not an expert in Judo but Shintaro has a video on this concept somewhere on UA-cam.

      Everyone’s looking for the spectacular throw so this catches even the most advanced judoka. Side foot sweep. Not fancy. Effective.

    • @jasonrose6288
      @jasonrose6288 10 місяців тому +2

      My response is that it's quite hard to cherry pick moves to focus on. Judo skill is about timing, leverage, movement, reactions etc. These are intangibles that take a lifetime to master. A superior judoka will throw you with whatever throw suits the moment - even if it's not their favorite technique.
      The best answer to your question is time on the mat - and especially randori.
