    So to recap 3 different methods for dealing with stiff arm judoka:
    1. Pull forward to break kizushi, then attack
    2. Switch to bow and arrow grip, then attack bad side
    3. Double lapel, force opponent to bend elbows, then get sleeve grip and attack
    Hope I got this right!

    Coming from a BJJ background, I got so much [deserved] crap for stiff-arming when i trained judo!
    Judo became a lot more fun when I loosened up and committed to throws even though i got thrown a lot more.

    I was a shodan and in my black belt test I threw another black belt candidate opponent who weighted 40 pounds heavier than me. I was only 16 years old and 118 pounds while he was around 22. Instead of letting him grab my lapel easily and fought to position him for a Ippon Seonage. As he grabbed my lapel, I pulled his other arm ( left) and trapped it under his right arm as I moved into my throw which was perfectly performed for an “ ippon.” I don’t know why people say you have problems with no gi situations. I have no need to use clothing for leverage. As those who really train under the Japanese, we have very strong grips and body strength; and if an opponent moves to attack us, the rest is easy. Welcome to the floor! ( most experienced judo fighters move slowly so as to never lose their weight distribution when fighting. They only become vulnerable except when they themselves go in to attack.)

    The thing to remember about standing randori is that even novices are blue belts in standing. all of our instincts protect us from falling in a way that in newaza or ground fighting people have no prepared instincts for stopping someone take your back. stiff arm is also instinctive and so it can be surprisingly hard to throw a strong novice. not least because you dont want to be too rough. these are good techniques and as a self defence method, the skill of dominating balance and grip is more important than say having a good maki or drop knee.

    I liked the vid, it's lenght, the situation adressed, the number of options offered, the techniques and effectiveness of the solutions and the simple explanations. What I really love is that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has a lightning fast way to beat the stiff arm: as you initiate what we call "mão de vaca" the experienced fighter will immediately change the stiff arm. If it is not an experienced fighter that doesn't know what's going on he will be finished in the next seconds.

    • @jestfullgremblim8002
      @jestfullgremblim8002 2 роки тому

      It really depends. If they have you with their other hand in certain ways, you will not able to do such, and even if they are not controlling you with their other hand there's also the problem of trying to pull them off balance first, which can be hard. But yes, yes you might be able to do it even if they are (weakly) controlling you with their other hand, i have only done it against inexperienced grapplers tho, so i do not recomend it against a decent one.

    Actually I dont think breaking grips is allowed in judo any more. Any makikomi throw works great against stiff arms and so does several other throws, the trick is not breaking the grip but understanding that it only prevents a direct entry and immediate foot sweeps. Try rotating around the stiff arm and you will notice that it is quite easy to develop attacks that rotate into your opponent if you do not try to move their arm.

      Are YOU popular with the gay community? Seems like you care too much. Go give it a try and see how gay you feel after being repeatedly thrown on your back. Then arm barred. Then collar choked. Make sure to first tell all the black belts what you think about judo. Or go straight to Shintaro Higashi and tell him your opinion.
