Great video. This is sort of random - but one new "rule" I've made for myself is I can't buy anything (not even thrift store stuff) unless I am truly going to wear it at least once within 7 days of purchase and can pair it with at least 2 other items in my existing wardrobe.
I always tell people, if it's not a 9-10 on a scale of 1-10 then it's not the right piece to add to your capsule, it's just a place holder. People love that advice.
Good tip for anybody on a tight budget who can't afford buying clothes, try a clothes swap with your friends & colleagues. Whatever items you want to get rid off you can swap for 'new' once from your mates. You could even include books, home decorations etc. if you don't have clothes to get rid off.
Since you’re into minimalism, are you going to be using that same method when it comes to your baby? Like not going overboard on clothing or toys, for example
When I was pregnant and started needing full on maternity clothes, I basically did a sort of capsule wardrobe. A few pairs of full panel jeans, shorts, a couple of maxi skirts and several short and long sleeve tops/tees, along with a cardigan and a few “nicer” aka work tops, as well as a bathing suit and a dress, since it was summer. I LIVED in these for months and months and hated my maternity clothes by the end. You’ll still need them for a bit after giving birth too. I was all too glad when I could start wearing my old clothes but I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, especially since we knew we were only have one baby. I liked HM, Old Navy, Gap and Loft for maternity clothes. Loft has some really nice stuff for when you need to look like a more polished prego lady.
I know the feeling of pieces missing in your wardrobe and not having enough money to buy what you want/need. But I think taking your time to evaluate what you need help you to not do buying mistakes. As a result I keep a clothing wish list on my phone and if an item I find (and feel like I want to buy) is not on the list I will move on. Then I would suggest, like Kitty, to try to find it second hand and if you can't find it I would save and spend a bit more on new basics that do work with plenty of items you already have. And not only work but add something NEW to the wardrobe. If I already have a pair of dark denim high waisted skinny jeans I do not need another pair for example.
haha your cat is too cute. Also, I live in Missouri where winter is 1° one day and then 4 days later it is 66° so I understand the need for a larger capsule wardrobe than people who live in other parts of the country.
I really need to do this course! The beginning of last year I wanted to get really tailored with the pieces I brought into my wardrobe but by the end of the year that went out the window and so many random pieces ended up in there! For 2018 I have decided not to buy any new clothes, work with what I have and eventually anything I do need I can buy that specific piece not a million other things!
I watched through all your course videos the other day and then woke up at 4.30am the next morning and all I could think about was planning my spring capsule lol. Not sure how that's gonna work as my baby is due in a couple of weeks but I'll see how I get on. That course is so great, different from what I've heard other people talk about when it comes to creating a capsule wardrobe and I think it's going to be really helpful when it comes to defining my style and reigning in my spending
I loved this video, I literally just did a closet clean out and took it all to a clothing swap organized by one of my managers at work. There was tons to choose from, but I resisted the urge to bring anything gently used home with me.
Cute! Question number one is so something that I thought I was alone with, I have just decided to try and create an entirely thrifted capsule - so we shall see how that goes. I'm not pregnant but I think I would get tired holding that camera up as well!! 😂
Great video! I also live in a place with very distinct seasons, if anything my spring/summer season blend together and winter is extended here. I’m currently trying to work with a more fluid capsule for that reason.
Do you ever see yourself working towards a year round capsule? Like the original capsule? My current capsule is 40 pieces year round. I wanna work my way down to 35 and I’m always interested in people’s capsule journeys
I am in the postpartum stage, not yet back into all my previous clothing. I’m also breastfeeding and have “cheap” breastfeeding tops. We do plan on having a second child. How do you plan to manage the all the maternity and postpartum clothing, especially if it doesn’t line up with the same season next time?
My cat is such a brat and does the same thing! Total diva lol. I really enjoyed this video! Im definitely going to try no spending for one season, which will hopefully help me to purchase some higher quality basics!
For the good first few minutes of this video, I accidentally had my screen scrolled down and I didn't notice and I was very confused as to why you filmed this video with your head cut off.
Hi Kitty, this is awesome! I'm definitely going to sign-up for your e-course. I wanted to suggest you take a look at Kristina Braley's channel. She's a brand new mommy to beautiful baby Harper Lee and she shares her discovered "game-changer" items that makes caring for her baby girl delightful/helpful for momma and baby. I think you would enjoy her channel. Check her out. As always, you're amazing and thanks for sharing!!
As usual your cat's jealous of attention you give other's, haaa. My cat couldn't have cared less. But just keep an eye on her when the baby comes. Just FYI!!!

Yep, same here! I live in Kansas City and have to have a wide variety of clothing items!
I laughed so hard at the cat bite 😂☺️ You clearly were not giving her proper attention.
