I have to say, although I'm all for decluttering the stuff you don't wear, I never understand why we should get rid of things we do wear only because it is similar to something else we also wear a lot. If I notice I like something (e.g. a skater dress or an angel sleeve), I will find it and purchase in all my favourite colours and patterns and wear it all :) And if the clothes we own is worn, I don't see anything bad in owning multiples. So, I just wanted to add that because I often see UA-camrs getting rid of clothes they like and wear only because (it seems to me, maybe I am wrong) they've got an impression somewhere that true decluttering means you shouldn't own similar items.
I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying, but I think it's just a space issue. There's only so much stuff that can fit in a specific closet or wardrobe
@@jlammetjeI don't think it's a space issue it's not like you have 30 extra similar items, it's often 2 or 3. If you truly liked the item you would keep it I think it's just an easy thing to say when you want to just declutter it.
It’s actually so lovely to watch someone with some character to their wardrobe! I’m so guilty of the black/beige trends and this was a breath of fresh air to watch. How beautiful
My favourite hack for small wardrobes is rotating seasonally. So twice a year I switch my winter jumpers for summer dresses or the other way around. I keep the non-seasonal clothes in a vacuumbag so it clears up space in the wardrobe and twice a year I rediscover clothes I haven't thought about in 6 months. I love it!
I just did the seasonal re-shuffle yesterday and while yes, storing half your outerwear (that's all I'm changing in and out) underneath the bed does save space, I also find the change-up exhausting and I'm putting it off until the last minute each year. I just wish I had a proper walk-in closet instead. Sigh.
Just an idea: what about putting your knits on top and hanging your tees and vests and even pants? Wool sweaters kind of lose their fit when hanged up. That way you can see your stuff easier, too! I have to change up my closets for seasons (currently -10C over here) - that helps, too. The Ribcage jeans have been my saviour too, btw! Love them.
The best hack I ever heard was, at new year have your hangers all face one way, then turn them the opposite way as you wear it, then come new year again anything not turned get rid because you’ve gone through all the season and haven’t reached for it. Worked a treat for me!
Best hack for me was to download Whering and track what I wear everyday. I can sort by least-worn and sell or donate those pieces after a year of actual proof that I do not wear them. It takes some time to photograph and add all your clothes, but if you just do it little by little as you wear them each day, that will also show you what you're not wearing if it isn't in the app yet! Plus it is game-changing to be able to see all your clothes when you aren't even home. I have fully decided what to pack for trips whilst on the train home from work.
So cool watching your videos for years, and seeing items that I remember you buying, and now your style is changing and life is moving on. Feels like a chat with an old friend x 😊
I put my summer outfit away in a vacuum pack bag and store them in a suitcase in the loft . That way I can see what I have to work with and it’s great to see them again in the appropriate season . Lovely vlog
I put my sentimental clothes into a bin. Then once in a while I go through that bin separately. Most of the time I end up getting rid of half of those clothes when I declutter the sentimental clothes bin. It’s like keeping the best hits lol
You could put in a second rail and take the shelf out! T shirts etc on the shorter rail and longer stuff at the bottom like you’ve got now? Then pull outs in the space underneath?
You have such pretty clothes 😍 i sorted my wardrobe out a few weeks ago (a shelf had been broken for over a year and it was a mess 🙃) Feels good to get it done! Defo get vacuum bags for summer stuff, then it feels like you're rediscovering your own stuff plus a great space saver! ✨
how about moving the rod all the way up and either place a second rod in there or put in shelves with bins to pull out/ drawers at the bottom? cause drawers abover your head would get quite messy i guess?
Marie Kondo's t-shirt folding to put them in drawers yet they're easy to see has been my go-to. They take up so little room and have fewer creases somehow.
Sentimental clothes could be added to a beautiful memory quilt/ pillow. I made lne for my son from his t-shirts from 0-5years. It is plain navy on one side and patchwork on the other. 💕

Re Wardrobe hacks. Can you take out the top shelf and move the rail up to the top so that you have more space at the bottom to pop a few baskets in? I feel like you would be able to see everything better that way x
If only you could see, I’m watching this on the telly as I fold my laundry and my copy of Rewitched on the side table next to me. What a comforting Sunday morning!
After having read Rewitched for the third time last night, I wake up to this much needed wardrobe declutter! I too need to sort out my wardrobe and this video is the kick up the butt that I need! Thanks Lucy, I'm just boiling the kettle and shall settle down on the settee with a biscuit or two to watch this and then I'll watch it again when I actually get off my butt to sort out my own wardrobe! Have a fab week!
I use can ring pulls to connect hangers. Put on the top of the hanger then connect another hanger to the second hole. My skirts are connected together to they hang down. Doesn't save a ton of space but does make the rod less cluttered. Would work for the tshirts
I love your videos so much. You are my comfort UA-camr and your channel feels like my safe space. Thank you for being you and being so amazing. This video also reminded me to declutter my wardrobe so thank you for that ❤
Maybe a bit late😅 But UA-cam only shown me this video today:D Have you considered only keeping your seasonal appropriat cloathing in the warderobe and storing the rest for example under your bed? Thanks for the good vibes! New subscriber here😊
I love a good declutter, it declutters your mind too 😂 I wonder if you could keep some of those similar items and think of wardrobe declutter as a seasonal switchover? Theres a reason you love the similar items and are drawn to them, it would be a shame to get rid of them, especially if you love them. What you could try instead is for example with the big collar shirts. Assign the browny one for autumn, red one for winter and the blue one for spring/summer. Just based on colours in this case. So basically, any clothes you don't think you'd reach for in winter , can be folded away in a box and not taking up space on your hangers. This could be packing away summer dresses for winter and packing away big jumpers in spring/summer. This visually will make it so much easier to see what you have as the first things you'll see will be all the items you want to wear now. Seasonal switchovers are so good, because every time you open up your packed away box of your own clothes it feels like you've just shopped a whole new wardrobe 😂 plus you have more space in your wardrobe.
You have some lovely clothes & a really fun-yet-appropriate style. Cardigans = northern & practical to my late-30s Teesside mind. Don’t knock ‘em! 😂 All those skirts remind me of that film line “on Wednesdays, we wear pink” but for you it’s “in autumn, we wear skirts”. I find the same tbh; I wear more thick skirts in the cold than thin ones in summer. Decluttering the gingham engagement one can wait till your anniversary 😉. Grinning so much at you blue checked shirt! Shorts, skirts, pjs, undies & chunky knits on the top shelf/in the drawers (most used in drawers, less used on shelf). Use Ikea or similar basic plastic boxes on the top shelf. Hang dungarees & long dresses at one end of wardrobe without folding if at all possible. Hang jeans, sportswear, sweaters & t-shirts. Sportswear can have multiples on 1 hanger. Try using those thin velvet hangers everyone raves about. Store rarely worn/purely sentimental things/‘works dungarees folded on floor’ at the less accessible end. Well done! Huge difference made already
Hey Lucy 😊 I too struggle with "memory clothes", but I don't want to have a lot of those unworn things in the closet all the time. So my solution is to keep my favourite ones in a box in the basement, to just have them around. Works great for me. And I had the same thought as you: I do have a daughter now, and the day will come when we will look through this box and she will make fun of me for the things in there and it will be so much fun. Looking forward to the day ❤ Also: I loved your book, so heart warming. Belle had your voice in my head while I read it 😅
Oh and can you just hang tshirts? Surely you can?! And as a very normal person with no UA-cam the best wardrobe decision I made was matching hangers and hangers with like… purpose (ones for multiple pairs of pants or ones with clips for skirts) and lastly once you do your office get a rail for your stuff that’s sentimental for a cute art/decor piece! Or for a cute colour coded selection - all white for your wedding for example? Oh oh oh and keep that brilliant white mini with the epics sleeves for your hens do?!
I would love to hang the tshirts but it's such a small space, the rail priority goes to the bigger stuff like jackets and dresses. These are excellent ideas though!
Sooo from someone who's "had a daughter one day" I genuienly recommend saving clothes for the future 😅 Things I don't want to get rid of are put in "the attic" so to speak. I regret having decluttered too much in the past, so many good things that could have been kept for the future. One day what we wear now will be fun and retro for "your daughter" or someone else. So sometimes keeping a little is no harm. 😄 Just maybe not in the wardrobe but somewhere else longterm.
A solution that works for me for things that don't hang, but go on a shelf: I just reuse a cartboard box from something I bought that fits the domentions of my shelf + is the right width for folded clothes (mainly shirts and shorts) - I fold them stacked laying down with the folded part upwards, if it makes sense. It's easy to grab the box out of the shelf, slide the item without everything else needeing to be removed or rearranged. After laundry you can place them on the back so you have the not-yet-worn stuff at the front, making them more likely to reach for next time.
I use fabric cubes cheap from Poundland on the top shelves especially for out of season or not worn daily or weekly then I take the whole cube down choose and put back ,
I’ve got (hear me out) closed baskets with the type of thing you have on the top of the closet in them. I turn the clothes file-fold style so you can see them lined up when you take out the basket. In the morning, I take the entire basket out and then just take out the “file” (aka shirt or whatever) I want for the day. It works way better for me because it’s less likely to cause a cascade, and therefore my will to live stays intact.
the muji stackable boxes are everything! i got some for my tiny wardrobe 7 years ago and they are still going strong, also they have lots of different sizes so something will fit for sure. 100% recommend!
There's no shame in knowing what you like and what makes you feel good and having it in multiples! Also, with declutters if I'm unsure whether to get rid of something, i ask whether it can be easily replaced. If yes, then i feel better about letting it go.
I think I would put the hanging clothes further up, so that you can have more space for a drag-out option at the bottom of the closet. The shelf on the top is too big/high for organizing properly, and it would be difficult to have a drag-out option so high up since you wont reach. Great video❤
I will take the tee shirts you are getting rid of and wear them with gusto! I love the discreet Belle detail and The Sword in The Stone is one of my favorite animated movies, even if it is massively underrated.
You could get lightweight plastic chest of drawers and see of it wouldn't fit on top the shelf.Or,slide on shelf dividers for easier stacking.I do use a wide fabric hanging shelf for my tees.I just have them in categories. You might also be able to roll/fold clothes, divide drawers and maybe find space there? I fold over my dungarees like they're jeans and they have a dedicated bar.
I think you should keep the things that invoke memories. If you have a daughter or even a niece they may love looking through it all and wearing something. Maybe a small box under the bed for items you love but won’t wear anymore.
i've been putting off decluttering my wardrobe now for about 5 years but this video maaaaay push me to do it. everything else in my room is lovely and tidy and organised but the dreaded wardrobe mocks me. belittles me. has me in a chokehold of anxiety
Just found your channel from this video. Excited to see what other content you share and create. Enjoying this video so far and love your clothes, so many lovely pieces 😊
Girl…. I know it’s not your UA-cam vibe anymore but I bloody adore your fashion! Maybe consider doing ‘a week in outfits’ video! That way it’s more about styling than weight or consumerism. It’s literally just what you wear each week…. Even if it’s workout gear or cute pjs! And keep every skirt please! lol 😘
Lucy I think we all need to know where you get your amazing novelty t-shirts….you have so many cool ones!!! Please shaaaaaare!! Loved this so much! A wardrobe clear out is such a chore but you always feel amazing after. Xxx
It’s so hard ditching clothes that have sentimental meaning! Just watched this whilst doing some ironing, thinking I need to declutter too! I love hanging my clothes in colour blocks, so a lot quicker to put together an outfit with a certain colour theme…maybe the next step Lucy?! 😘
Nooo omg can’t believe you got rid of the blue Nobody’s Child dress, I literally bought that one because of you and it’s also one of my fave go-to’s. Very fun video x
Lucy, have little plastic baskets which are grey, identical, and I have added stickers to each basket so you can clearly see ‘bras, knicks, socks, vests, opaques’ etc. It is cheap and effective. Six little baskets on one shelf.
Could you add another rail for short things like T-shirts? Could potentially move existing a bit lower to make space? You can get a hook thing like in some shops if you worry you won’t be able to reach hangers from a higher rail
I am currently about 70% through decluttering my wardrobe. I do looooove that brown/green/checked skirt you have though and would love to know where I can get my hands on one. 💜
You've got an attic, so why not box/bag up all your summer clothes and put them up there until next summer? Also ottoman beds are wonderful. I have some and have all my out of season clothes in plastic storage boxes with lids under the bed. So easy to access and swap seasonal clothes without having to go into the loft. Another option, store summer clothes in your suitcases. Storage cubes for your top shelf would work. Just take the cube down to make your choice and put back rather than trying to pull out the chosen item and disturbing all the other clothes.
I wish we'd opted for an ottoman! Ours has big drawers underneath which are useful but the whole thing would be great. I think cubes for the top is probably my best bet x
Didn’t realize I am OCD about laundry until watching this. Leaving the top buttons undone on all the shirts and those wire hangers making crazy puffs on the shoulders really bothered me.
I just love fashion and you so I can’t stop commenting… but the chevron cardi is… not the one! It’s giving 2006, chunky mint ball necklace, peplum and ‘day to night’…. bahahaha! Another 10 years and I’ll adore it again though so stay strong 😅
It’s colddd put the summery stuff away in a storage bin, put the autumn/wintery stuff in the wardrobe with 2 or three summery shirts for those off days where it’s hot for no reason 😂
Me trying to keep myself from actually screaming at the screen that you should NOT get rid of the white bell sleeve dress 12:51 or the the blue one 6:17 or the floral yellow one 5:24. Pleeeeasssse.
Here's me knowing I should really be sorting out my own wardrobe, but instead, I'm watching Lucy do hers

I will take the tee shirts you are getting rid of and wear them with gusto! I love the discreet Belle detail and The Sword in The Stone is one of my favorite animated movies, even if it is massively underrated.
They were both excellent! And will definitely find welcome new homes haha
Juuuust as i was about to eat dinner! (Australia) You tickle my soul in the sweeeetest ways
Gday mate!
Great timing Lucy, I was just looking for something to watch 😂 xx
Nailed it! Happy Sunday 🥳
The hippie shake white dress would also be amazing for wedding vibes! :)
Or fancy dress ?
Hi Lucy, perfect for my relaxing Sunday night.. I loved your book ❤🎉 cheers from Australia xxx 😊
Ahhh enjoy your Sunday eve 🥰
I think you should keep the things that invoke memories. If you have a daughter or even a niece they may love looking through it all and wearing something. Maybe a small box under the bed for items you love but won’t wear anymore.
If I kept every piece that gave me a happy memory, my tiny house would be literally overrun 😂
This is such a good video. My 2-week vacay is over and I’m so sad to be worink again. Having this vid on in the background is nice😊
Ahh the kick up the butt I really need, I'll have to do mine today 😅
It will be hell but then it will be wonderful
I want that sword in the stone and Robin Hood T-shirts 😍😍😍
The second dress is like some I wore during the early ‘70s.
Oh the ruthlessness to cut the Sword in the Stone shirt!
i've been putting off decluttering my wardrobe now for about 5 years but this video maaaaay push me to do it. everything else in my room is lovely and tidy and organised but the dreaded wardrobe mocks me. belittles me. has me in a chokehold of anxiety
YOU CAN DO IT, it's a perfect weekend afternoon job 💪
Just found your channel from this video. Excited to see what other content you share and create.
Enjoying this video so far and love your clothes, so many lovely pieces 😊
Thanks for stopping by! 😊
11:08 Never! I have a weeks worth from Run and Fly. 4 or so more from other brands. They please my brain goblin greatly.
Hahaha goblin brain, relatable
And keep every skirt please! lol 😘
Oh that's a cute video idea! I try and show them in vlogs as much as I can, but maybe I should do more...
Lucy I think we all need to know where you get your amazing novelty t-shirts….you have so many cool ones!!! Please shaaaaaare!! Loved this so much! A wardrobe clear out is such a chore but you always feel amazing after. Xxx
Hahaha they have been accumulated over many, many years of hunting and strange shops...
I am such a sucker for keeping hold of stuff 😂 I like the idea of a colour coded wardrobe though...
Nooo omg can’t believe you got rid of the blue Nobody’s Child dress, I literally bought that one because of you and it’s also one of my fave go-to’s. Very fun video x
I loved that soooo much! It has literally been worn to death, it's such a cute dress
Lucy, have little plastic baskets which are grey, identical, and I have added stickers to each basket so you can clearly see ‘bras, knicks, socks, vests, opaques’ etc. It is cheap and effective. Six little baskets on one shelf.
These sound ideal! I think if I can move the rail up and the shelf underneath, this would be perfect x
I missed your fashion videos! Still have impeccable taste.
Oh well thank you very much! 😎
LOVE YOUR STYLE so much! This video inspired me too much to go on a vinted hunt😅
Is it Twanky? Snarf!
Another fan of the seasonal shuffle here. The sucky bags store away - don't buy cheap though as they are crap.
Maybe stick all the out of season stuff in the attic? That’s what I do, makes things so much more manageable in the day to day wardrobe
love your videos so much!!!! always so comforting ♥️♥️♥️
I'm so glad! Thank you 🤩
I absolutely loved this video ❤
Could you add another rail for short things like T-shirts? Could potentially move existing a bit lower to make space? You can get a hook thing like in some shops if you worry you won’t be able to reach hangers from a higher rail
I am currently about 70% through decluttering my wardrobe. I do looooove that brown/green/checked skirt you have though and would love to know where I can get my hands on one. 💜
IKEA do some brilliant pull out drawers for inside a wardrobe. I used to have some and they were a life saver 😊✨
Okay I need to research these....
@ they’ve got like a gridded look to them 😊✨
You are absolutely adorable. Yes, you can do this😊🎉❤
This is on my to do list for this week so thanks for the inspiration 😂
Hahahah unfortunately it's your sign from the universe
This was soo satisfying to watch! Also I’m a strong believer you can never have too many Disney T-shirts ✨
I love this video! ❤😃
Lol I got that exact red velvet waistcoat on vinted and it always feels like a costume 😂
I really need to do this job... This is the perfect motivation ✨
YOU CAN DO IT
I think you should move the hanging rail right up and then you can have some drawers below x
This is definitely a popular answer! Gonna have to give it a try x
Love your fashion videos! 🫶 would also love to see you do try-on hauls ✨
My next video should be a Joanie Clothing try on!
I need this inspo! 😅🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I BELIEVE IN YOU
The monki denim shorts are still on asos. I bought them in a different size for my honeymoon a few weeks ago. Just checked, they’re still there. X
So know what you mean about those ‘comfort pieces’. I feel very seen haha but also prompted to part ways with some of my enormous t shirts xxx
Time for us both to move on 😂❤️
I just love fashion and you so I can’t stop commenting… but the chevron cardi is… not the one! It’s giving 2006, chunky mint ball necklace, peplum and ‘day to night’…. bahahaha! Another 10 years and I’ll adore it again though so stay strong 😅
It also doesn't fit so it's now gone!
It’s colddd put the summery stuff away in a storage bin, put the autumn/wintery stuff in the wardrobe with 2 or three summery shirts for those off days where it’s hot for no reason 😂
Unfortunately I am a very warm-blooded person who spends most months in summer stuff 😂 but I definitely need to do this x
Me trying to keep myself from actually screaming at the screen that you should NOT get rid of the white bell sleeve dress 12:51 or the the blue one 6:17 or the floral yellow one 5:24. Pleeeeasssse.
