Love suspenders. It just makes you look so much more sleeker and sophisticated.

Everything you said is so right! It really is too bad that so many off-the-rack suits come with belt loops; internal adjusters and braces are a much better look...and unfortunately, wearing braces with trousers that have belt loops looks weird to me.

Thanks for doing this video, Ian. I have to agree whole-heartedly. ANY guy with well developed shoulders and wide V-back will look great in suspenders/braces. The vertical straps that run from the back...over the shoulder and then down the front to the waistline just emphasize the width of the shoulders and upper back SO WELL. You look good in all of these look books today. I also feel for the reason that fit guys look good when they wear over the shoulder gun holsters!

Exactly! it's amazing how something so simple can bring your eyes to certain parts of your torso. Thanks for the compliment, I don't wear it much but that's about to change

@@FitManStyle Yeah, I was thinking this about 6 or 8 months ago, I might have said something....or not, but it was on my mind. I really felt then and really feel big time now, that you would look good in suspenders, vests, and gun holsters, Ian. In short, the whole " 1930's - Detective ", " Dick Tracy ", " Elliot Ness - Untouchables " look is for the fit man, I've always felt. But I feel that look is best for the fit man with a relatively lean waist. I can't really put the Arnold Classic Strongmen in that category, at least.....I think? I feel they would of course look good in suspenders (or bracers -- I call them suspenders), but anyhow...yes, I agree with you that the big big guys would look good in suspenders. But with vests and gun holsters.....they are for the fit man with the wide shoulders by somewhat tapered waist. Okay....lol...I've written too much, but you know where my mind is headed with this point. Thanks Ian.

In short, practicing the keto diet with intermittent fasting means that even though I've stitched 2nd trouser buttons to tighten up the whole area, it's all going south...literally.
So, to doff a cap (homage) to the late British comedian, Bobby Ball, why not try a different look to the customary waist belt. After all, a change is often as good as a Christmas holiday. And I'm sure looking forward to one of those. En masse one hopes too!

Ian, great video. I haven't worn bracers since I was a kid. They were wide, red, with brass clips (15 yrs before Family Matters). I think I wore them a couple of times w/ corduroy. Thinking back, I thought it was more Mork & Mindy than Dapper Dan. I dabbled w/ skinny clip braces as a pre teen in the 80's but as a legal adult I've never worn bracers. I believe the button style w/ 2-3 in straps are very dapper. However, i think there are 2 things to consider w/ bracers. The 1st is function. As you stated, the function of bracers are to hold your pants up at your natural waist. Therefore, your trousers and chinos, cords should have a rise that also sits at natural waist. For most this would be an 11in front rise or higher. Otherwise, low to mid rise w/ bracers be uncomfortable unless you wear the bracers lose and going for an 80's Pop look, (which is not what we're doing here). 😜Secondly, I'm no style expert and to each their own but I would go w/ the button style only and ALWAYS under a layer such as 2-3 pies suit, vest only, cardigan. Layers can be removed on site if too warm but I would NEVER leave the house w/o a top layer of some kind to cover the bracers. I just feel that it's stylish if someone catches a peak from an open jacket or cardigan but it comes off like "trying" if they aren't covered initially or intentionally walking around all day w/ bracers on display. Again, just my opinion. Loved this topic!

my man! I always enjoy reading your comments, always insightful and from the things you say I'd say you have a very deep knowledge in menswear. Totally agree with the rise of the pants for them to sit at your natural waist. You almost have to go to specialty stores or get it custom made cause you won't find that in any average store. I only wear the button up suspenders and love the discreet nature of it being worn under a waistcoat. I saw a couple characters do so in Boardwalk Empire.

Fit Man Style - Thank you for the kind compliment. I hit my style peak in the 90's or that was the last great evolution of my style. Today, I attribute any and all current style knowledge that I've obtained from the info That my favorite UA-cam style enthusiasts (such as yourself 🙏) have shared and lurking online forums some of which if you haven't read over 1000 threads on a topic be prepared for some stern words if you dare post a question 😂. I love the history, origins, and how to's of men's wear and for most men even if it's jeans and a tee it's style and there's something to be learned and appreciated. Speaking of which, just watched a documentary on Netflix "Blue Gold American Jeans". 😳 Wow.

I guess I don’t wear suspenders as often as I should. Clip one look okay with more casual styles especially with jeans that don’t have buttons for braces . I have issues with mine coming off when I’am driving and under sweaters any suggestions?
