Sukhchain Singh the only time you should be wearing a belt and suspenders together is for functional work wear i.e. suspenders with a tool belt. Otherwise it is one or the other. Remember they both share the same purpose, to hold up your pants. If you wear them together you will look like you don’t know how to dress. It may not matter if you are just out on the town, but if you do this in a business setting remember that you are always being judged by potential clients or employers and you can’t make a second first impression.
I have nerve damage in my left side due to a serious accident. This accident left me either wearing elastic waistband pants such as sweatpants (which I only wear around the house) or living with extra pain all day due to a belt cutting into me. I started wearing braces (or galluses as my grandfather called them) about a year and a half ago and they have been the answer to my problem and a stylish answer as well. I now have buttons sewn into every pair of trousers I buy and I am amassing quite a collection of styles and colors. I also am able to wear my trousers a bit looser in the waist, which I believe is correct when sizing them for braces, this also helps alleviate the pain from my waistband cutting into my side. I've pulled out my old dress braces, bought a couple of pairs of the Perry brand suspenders that clip to a belt from Duluth Trading Co. for casual wear and a nice heavy clip on work pair when I am welding or working on something. I had no idea that there was a type for under the shirt (although I thought that I might try that with my other suspenders), that set just came in today for me to try! Thanks again for the info! Being a large man, i've been transfixed on this video for it's entirety. Now, getting a suspender here, from where i am at, is a tough thing. Not common at all. The only option is importing. I like braces (suspenders) they make suit trousers hang properly. My dad used to wear suspenders around his calves to keep his socks up. He also wore flexible metal bands, located approx around his biceps, to ensure the correct length of cuff showed.
there are also shirt stays that clip onto the tail of your shirt and then go down and clip onto your socks keeps your shirt tucked in always and also keeps your socks up you can find them easy on Amazon or any high end men's store or if you know someone in the military they get them them for you on post/base
I started wearing suits/"formal" clothing a handful of years ago, back in Uni, and after a while I finally managed to get suspenders, which was great, because I just love them since I was a child and had red and blue Mickey Mouse ones. What I like the most, is that usually my shirts will tend to move around less than with a belt, and that just made them even better for me. After working for over 30 plus years in the funeral industry I always wore braces, (it might help to explain the difference instead of grouping them all together) I wore leather and silk due to the professional settings. Kept my pants in place with all the bending stooping and lifting in my day to day work. I also wore socks suspenders to avoid falling socks. I know there is a debate on either you should do this or not, but personally I preferred them, later on in my working life found shirt stay sock garters and they were great at doing what they needed to do kept my shirt always tucked in and my socks up. (if you do not know what they are go to Amazon and search for them and it is self explanatory)
I have found the ideal way to attach suspender buttons without sewing.The ''Perfect Fit Button'' is a metal button attached with a pin in the same way as a military badge,so they are removable.They were originally designed to enable people to widen their waistband,but i use them for my button suspenders.I originally used metal stud buttons you hammer together (aka 'bachelor buttons') but these are permanent & wrecked my pants,because i accidentally put them in the wrong place. The other difference to sewed buttons is you don't hide them inside the waistband,but outside it.I don't mind cause i actually think it looks better that way.
I wear suspenders because of what you could call a neurological issue. At the moment I am struggling with a disease called Meralgia Paraesthetica, also know as “Jeans Disease”. Saw an orthopedic surgeon to get to the bottom of where this shooting, searing pain in my right leg is coming from whenever I stand for longer than a few minutes. Was relieved it was not a spine problem but still. One of the ways to mitigate it, according to the doctor, is to wear looser fitting clothes to reduce pressure on the damaged nerve. My jeans tend to slip down when I am not wearing a belt so suspenders were a logical choice for me and it made a world of difference. This video has really helped me. I am still a long way away from having recovered but I can definitely tell that this matters. In my case this ailment goes back to a combination of having my belt on too tight, wearing a rather heavy and tight-fitting camera holster & equipment belt for extended periods of time as well as having a few extra pounds that I could do without. Sitting or walking is no problem - but standing still really kills me. Goes from feeling numb first, then it tingles, there’s some needles and pins and suddenly it’s like someone is slowly driving a red hot iron poker into my thigh. Sometimes it skips the intermediate steps and goes from numbness straight into hot iron poker territory.

The undergarment suspenders are made with an Ace bandage-like material that expands/contracts when moving and can pinch back hair. In those cases, you might want to consider wearing an undershirt tucked in, then the suspenders, and then a nice shirt worn outside the pants.

I wear braces whenever I go outside, because I have found that my pants normally drag down beneath my shoes and get tattered and filthy, so I really needed to wear braces. I found that the very thin ones with a small clip don't last all that long, and the first time I wore very 'fashionable' or 'causal' braces they broke within a couple of days. I now wear work braces causally, because I have found they keep my pants up and don't brake. But this video was very enlightening about the different sorts of braces, I must thank you a heap. Now I have the proper terminology for the different types of braces and I can make an educated decision on what I should buy in terms of braces. Thank you.

I'm a pretty skinny guy and i've always worn belts. the problem is belts can be very uncomfortable. epecially when the rub on the bony prominences on my waist, leaving them sore. that's why i've made the switch to suspenders.
As a Brit this video was hilarious. Over here suspenders are an item worn by women to keep stockings up and are typically worn as a fetish item, and not usually by men! I honestly thought that the video was going to try to convince us guys to wear stockings and suspenders because they are more comfortable and stylish! I bought a pair of George brand adjustable suspenders at Walmart that are extremely annoying. I was never able to make the adjustment in size clip into place, so the adjusted size would be semi-permanent. So I was never able to try wearing them. I find it wierd that most British people do not know what the British version of the word suspenders is. Suspenders are the American version of the word. Braces are the British version of the word. Suspenders in britain (short for suspender belt) are used to hold up socks or stockings. The American version of a suspender belt is a garter belt.
Excellent series and the popular fashion trenders think that suspenders are not cool and is a fashion crime. I always thought that suspenders was classic especially Edwardian look which I try to create or recreate for today's look. However the "Y" suspenders need to be re done because most pants have a belt strap in the mid section of the rear and the third clip would have to be installed either the left or right side of the rear belt strap!!!! I thought the manufacturers should have make a two headed rear side to compensate between the rear mid belt strap. Either way the "X" suspender, is the better design as a fast casual or street look.
I'd say Suspenders can look really nice since they give your Outfit a little more dimension. Lets say brown boots. Raw Denim Jeans. A tucked in Shirt (maybe a light red. And these awesome brown suspenders. It would be a great Casual look imo.

However, I'm still somewhat left in "suspense" (haha) in that I don't know how or when it's appropriate to wear suspenders/braces casually. Is it permissible to wear suspenders freely in the office with out a suit jacket? I work in a corporate setting and the dress code is considered "business casual." Will be attending a wedding and wearing a navy blue suit. A few questions for you... first, I'm planning on wearing a pink print bow tie and would like to match up dress/button suspenders. I would like to find a pair of suspenders with some pink in it. Would you recommend that combo or stick with solid navy suspenders? Thus far, haven't found any suspenders with pink so this may not be an option anyway. Second question, sort of off topic but does wearing a pink bow tie work on a bearded guy? I started wearing suspenders a few months ago
So as far as wearing work suspenders that hook onto your belt, can you wear them casually when not doing work that makes you carry heavy stuff? Like, can they just be worn like regular suspenders?

I like all your videos, but enjoyed this one a lot. Some of the things I knew, I was most surprised by the variety of fasteners and the pants end of the suspenders.
I have a Y-brace and an X-brace for when I dress up but after the video I may consider an under garment brace for when I'm not working.

I bought a pair of George brand adjustable suspenders at Walmart that are
extremely annoying. I was never able to make the adjustment in size clip
into place, so the adjusted size would be semi-permanent. So I was never
able to try wearing them. I can't wait to take them back to Walmarts for a refund.

I find it wierd that most British people do not know what the British version of the word suspenders is. Suspenders are the American version of the word. Braces are the British version of the word. Suspenders in britain (short for suspender belt) are used to hold up socks or stockings. The American version of a suspender belt is a garter belt.

Excellent series and the popular fashion trenders think that suspenders are not cool and is a fashion crime.
I always thought that suspenders was classic especially Edwardian look which I try to create or recreate for today's look.
However the "Y" suspenders need to be re done because most pants have a belt strap in the mid section of the rear and the third clip would have to be installed either the left or right side of the rear belt strap!!!! I thought the manufacturers should have make a two headed rear side to compensate between the rear mid belt strap.
Either way the "X" suspender, is the better design as a fast casual or street look.
I'd say Suspenders can look really nice since they give your Outfit a little more dimension.
Lets say brown boots. Raw Denim Jeans. A tucked in Shirt (maybe a light red. And these awesome brown suspenders. It would be a great Casual look imo.
+UrbanDanger ! They where criticized as WHAT NOT TO WEAR or Fashion Violation. Suspenders has been around since the 19th Century and it works for casual and incognito look. I say fuck them all to the "fashion police"!

I sit a lot at work, and suspenders allow me to wear slightly loose pants that don't constrict my waist. This means comfort and better health, besides making me look fashionable 😊😁😸

I had to have kidney failures from wearing belts, now I am very enthusiastic discovering the use of suspenders instead. Also my brother in law has stomach ulcer because of wearing belts.

Hey, Antonio! I'm a huge fan of your videos and really appreciated this particular one giving the background of suspenders. However, I'm still somewhat left in "suspense" (haha) in that I don't know how or when it's appropriate to wear suspenders/braces casually. Is it permissible to wear suspenders freely in the office with out a suit jacket? I work in a corporate setting and the dress code is considered "business casual." I also can't seem to find any videos on how to match patterned suspenders with bow ties or standard ties. Perhaps you can weigh in? Thanks in advance! Keep up the great videos!

When do you think braided leather suspenders are appropriate to wear? Casual or business dress? When should I not wear them?
My thought is if it dark colour then you can use them in business as well as casual. If bright, then it is casual.

I am new to suspenders
Excellent video. I am built like a barrel and have trouble keeping my pants up with a belt. I have a pair of the undergarment suspenders from Duluth Trading Co., and they work great. I would wear outside suspenders, but they look too "hipster" (the most hated form of life on the planet) when you where them with jeans. Either that or people accuse you of being a "lumbersexual".

Here's the thing Antonio, I'd wear suspenders to replace a belt as to not break the visual streamline and accentuate my shortness. But when it comes to casual wear I don't want to wear suspenders. Do I opt for a belt or just not wearing anything as my jeans and trousers fit well themselves? Also, would wearing pants with suspenders look good even though the trousers have belt loops?
***** If you want to make a statement. A belt divides the torso from the lower body. A belt can coordinate to a pair of shoes or make a bold statement with a contrasting color.

can you make another guide about how it should fit, i mean how much of stretch they should have cuz they're adjustable where the locks should situate in jeans and the adjustment mechanism should it be near the bellybutton or where.. and so on ?

Will be attending a wedding and wearing a navy blue suit. A few questions for you... first, I'm planning on wearing a pink print bow tie and would like to match up dress/button suspenders. I would like to find a pair of suspenders with some pink in it. Would you recommend that combo or stick with solid navy suspenders? Thus far, haven't found any suspenders with pink so this may not be an option anyway. Second question, sort of off topic but does wearing a pink bow tie work on a bearded guy? I have a typical dark, full beard -- nothing long, but it does cover my entire cheeks, chin, and just below the jaw area. Should I go with a standard tie or would a bow tie in your option work? Hey Antonio. Love all of your videos! I don't usually wear suspenders, however my grandpa does. I've bought him several suspenders from some small suit stores in the mall. However, the clips on them seem to fail within a year of wear. Do you have any reputable brands you recommend?
