Thanks man I Appreciate it … 6”2 /36 waist …. *Gonna make my own HOWEVER I will use the CLIP and BUTTONS in my jeans which I wear as business casual ( jeans /dressing shirt / vest or leather vest )
I'm a groomsman at a wedding tomorrow and I am a nervous wreck. This video along with your videos on properly tucking shirts and cufflinks will help boost my confidence. Thanks for the awesome tips!
I would suggest the button leather end suspenders for sure. You will have to sew 6 buttons into any pants you intend on wearing with them, but the effort is definitely worth it. They have a very timeless look to them. I've been neglecting wearing belts for ages, they've just always annoyed me, so would often go without and spend the day trying to pull my pants up repeatedly. I'm a bit shorter and stockier too, so the belt is often pulled too tight to keep the pants up, while also sort of shortening me. Made the transition to suspenders and it's so nice. I like to dress nice whenever possible even if not called for (I work as a video editor, could wear a t-shirt), and when worn right and with the right fashion sense suspenders can really make you look sharp as hell.
I work as wedding event staff in England and initially I only wore a belt with my "uniform", but due to the fact my shirt kept coming un-tucked I have recently converted to trouser braces. No regrets at all :-).
FYI for people who don’t understand their uses the suspender is used to pull up your pants, the belt is used to adjust your waist for a bigger/skinny person.
landsolo kinda like military web gear, where you have suspenders that clip to a pistol belt to distribute weight. Belt and suspenders are definitely only for distributing weight, not to keep trousers up.
Man, You talk so naturally into a camera! a lot of people don't know how hard it can be... First the information here is great! but i could not help but want to compliment your approachable presentation style.
Thank You very much sir. I have been trying to understand what type of suspenders to buy. I felt shy going to a department store due to being overweight. I have watched six different videos on the subject but yours was the absolute best and by far the most helpful. You explained in an easy to understand language that answered every one of my questions. Being a Rookie at this, I very much appreciated your video......
Needed to hear this. As a big man with long torso. And at age 51, might be 20 too late to make the switch. But there was no UA-cam then either. Lol Thank you and keep up the good work.
I'm a female but I have more of a men style, and I love suspenders for style, and holding up my pants. this was very helpful for this! thank you so much!
I remember my grandfather wore suspenders and belt. I never really understood it since I figured their function was the same, to keep the pants up. I once asked him why he chose to wear both. He said: the suspenders were for holding up the pants, and the belt to adjust the waist (he was a large man) to make it comfortable if the waist in your pants were too wide. So if anyone can use that to make sense of the suspenders with belt, I'm glad. If not.. Meh..
Thank YOU ! - for inspiring me to care about my appearance. I am 67 and have NEVER been a slave to fashion. BUT - old dogs CAN learn new tricks! - Thanks again. Just keep on keepin on.
i’m 17 and i lovvvveeee dressing up in suits or formal wear, it’s what puts me aside from everyone else. I always get compliments saying how nice i look when i’m just being myself! if you’re young i recommend dressing up to get ladies! works every time!
I love this presentation of how a real man should dress. I'm 38 and considering suspenders for the first time. I typed into YT 'how to wear suspenders' and this was the first video that popped up. The title perfectly matched my query. Regarding the suspenders, I've heard Jordan Peterson talk about the way men dress nowadays. And he was lamenting about how grown men today dress like kids. I've noticed that as well. Jeans or trackkie bottoms, never trousers. Jumpers/sweatshirts, never a button down shirt. I think I'm going to change my wardrobe gradually. ATM I wear jeans and T-shirts but I've got two button down shirts so all I need now are some shoes (rather than sneakers) some kind of strides and of course the all important suspenders. Can't wait to look the business. Great video. New subscriber.
Even with Peterson you could see the evolution in taste. It came as a result of aging and increased number of public appearances (and possibly income). I was pretty much in the same situation as you. My idea of a nice outfit was plain jeans and a white t-shirt. It's not that I wasn't able to combine colors or afford a sports jacket. I just never thought about that stuff. One day I looked in the mirror and it was like "man, you're pushing 40 and you look really silly in that baseball cap... it's not you anymore". I gradually developed a taste for something different. Looking back it wasn't even that hard. It's like when you understand guitar chords. There's a system but the possibilities are open. Suspenders are not my thing though but good luck on your own journey.
Great video. I'm doing suspenders for teaching in a high school. I got them from a friend who didn't even know I was interested in the switch. I have plans to sew new pants without belt loops for my suspenders 😊😊
I really found your video helpful. I've recently undergone major abdominal surgery and now have a Stoma so I need to change my style. Moving to wearing braces is a necessary and much more comfortable option which I am currently exploring. Thank you for your thorough video. I look forward to viewing more.
In defense of the whole belt with suspenders thing... 1) I myself will sometimes wear both but only if the suspenders will not be seen (i.e. under a vest or jacket) A belt can just look good and be used fashionably since the unseen suspenders are doing the actual work! 2) as pointed out in the video, for work purposes a belt is a practical consideration for carrying tools/equipment. The suspenders allow the tools to hang off the belt without sagging. 3) as others have pointed out, suspenders hold up the trousers (or pants, excuse my Britishness!), whereas a belt can then be used to adjust the fit of the waistline. To each their own!
Just bought my first set of suspenders last week. I don't regret it at all. They're super comfortable to wear, I love the freedom it gives my waist as compared to my belts, and for me going more vintage with my style, it's a good transition.
@@juanorduno1784 They're a Wal-Mart brand called George and they're a Y-shape clip-on style. However, I do also have a pair of button-on suspenders since then, I forget what brand they are, but they're a better quality.
thank you, as a man with overweight, I got a job where I have to wear a vest, while I have to sit around a lot. For now I am wearing a belt as fortunately/unfortunately I have been losing some weight, but not as drastically to buy new pants. So Suspenders look like a good investment. Your video helped me a lot with making this decision.
I'm an industrial mechanic (one of the skilled trades) and I'm getting suspenders coupled with belt for my heavy tool pouch. I've been using a Kore gun belt for 5 years and have been fine. But I'm now conscience of my gut health.
I’m a big fan of Hold Up’s suspender clip design...they never slip. I like the feel and practicality of suspenders. If you do a lot of crouching or upper body movement for work, they are much more comfortable than a belt, which has a higher likelihood of chafing.
This was extremely helpful because I am a large man - 6' 3" and have some dress suits I wanted to use button down dress suspenders with. Actually the fabric are a wool / synthetic / silk blend and the pants slide with a belt. The tips about button clip on was fantastic - THANKS!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for those very clear explanations about suspenders and for the infographic which is very well done. Sincerely, I really appreciate the "Glory to Ukraine" on your website. We just can't do nothing about the horrible situation they are currently going through. It is not a war, it is a massacre without any sense or reason.
I've found that women LOVE to see suspenders on guys. Especially if the guy is really physically fit. The suspenders create nice vertical lines and accentuate a pair of well developed shoulders.
Moving to suspenders for work was a game changer for me. I'm a bartender where I also need to wear shirts for work. Using Suspenders are much more comfortable than belts as I'm a big lad and now my shirt never needs tucked back in.
I have worn suspenders to work for years. They are comfortable and allow me to keep my shirt tail in without constant adjustment due to a bit of a pot belly.
Antonio, thank you for your help. Your videos and website have helped me greatly. I even feel better about myself. I love my suspenders and look forward to more videos.
Dear Antonio, thanks for your great tips. They are top tips. Having listened to you and apply your advice, I emerge an ever confident man. Food for the soul, style for the look!
I made the switch to suspenders years ago and I will never go back. As a bigger guy they feel much better than a belt, and they add a level to my outfits.
Realmenrealstyle Antonio , thank-you as I've got suspender's but i never understood them and have 3 sets of clip on's , seeing i retired from work gave all my suits away, and now starting again buying slacks and suits, dress shirts because i'm working again , I've watched your short video's and yes it's given quite alot of incites into what i need ( which I've only discovered in the last 3 weeks) . As a older man in a warm country (Australia) and the comfort of suspenders is great , but i know my pants need to be longer in the waist ,thanks for the tip. Also i hate belts they always cut into me , a i'm a short man ,small not large around the waist. So i want to say , is this . Thank-you. Andrew.Millar
I wear suspenders 90% of the time I like them they look good on me I look different from all the others guys it allow me to drape my pants exactly at my waist or my belly button I like the silk variety it is non binding and move very easily without hanging up or discomforting I get a lot of looks and compliments especially from the ladies women like them I just don't know why more men don't wear them it set you apart you have to be bold to attempt to be different maybe some guys are afraid of that. belt with suspenders no way!!!
Learn to sew on buttons. You can easily find them with tapered edges so as they're not felt against your skin. When elasticated braces with clips accidentally come undone, that ballistic piece of metal ain't fun.
Great video. I’m mainly making the switch because of my job. I genetically have a flat behind so belts aren’t great for me and I don’t wanna keep having issues when I frequently have to stoop down at my job working/testing/loading/assembling small engine and heavy equipment, etc.
Anthony you have always given good advise. I switched over to suspenders last year based on you ebook. I'm only 5'6". I do feel better about my height. And isn't that a minor point of your messages, to feel better about yourself by dressing with style.
Antonio, I've bought a few suspenders, removed loops on some of my pants and installed some internal buttons so I'm really committing to trialing them for at least a good long while. Do you think it's fashionably acceptable to wear suspenders without a jacket of sorts? I realize that history has viewed suspenders as an undergarment in the past and that there is (in my opinion) an antiquated stigma surrounding wearing them without covering them up. I really enjoy them for several reasons, including: 1. They flatter my short + lean build, especially when I run them with shirtstays. I'm 5'6" and when I wear them with my best clothes + dress boots I look significantly taller! 2. They are FAR more comfortable than belts and instead of cutting my figure in half they only accentuate it. They also reduce pocket flair which is an annoyance I experience with some of my dress slacks. 3. They immediately set my style apart in a profound way from pretty much any other man my age (I'm 22). I see quite a few guys dressing well but none wear braces. I kinda feel like I've tapped into a hidden ore of style, lol. Would appreciate your thoughts and thanks for the videos, as always.
(reviving an ancient comment) - From a female perspective on male fashion, I love the way suspenders look both with and without a jacket on top. Obviously jacketless is more casual, but I love it.
I’m new at wearing suspenders-or I guess you could say, I’m re-new at wearing them! It’s probably been at least 60 years since I had a pair on. I am starting again because of the number one reason you mentioned; namely, that I’ve gained weight, and a belt is not working anymore: Okay, so I’ve made the decision. But what I was looking for is a more basic tutorial; that is, on the actual mechanics of how to properly put the dang things on. How far apart am I supposed to attach the clips? How to adjust the length of the straps, and so on. How do I keep my shirt from looking all bunched up in back? I’m self-conscious about going out in public with them on, looking like I don’t know what I’m doing. This video helped a little, but didn’t answer my specific questions. I will keep looking.
Hey I'm a big guy I just recently switched to suspenders and I'm so happy I understand the belt suspenders things but number one I think it looks cool number two I feel naked without a belt after years of wearing one and though I am always dressed for work because I work I find nothing wrong with it and the picture you showed doesn't look ridiculous to me that actually looks cool
Great tips. I knew about suspenders and have worn them in the past but I did not realize that there were so many options. I enjoyed your video on shirt stays, too.
I've preferred suspenders since I saw al Pacino wear them in the godfather. I love there superior support(compared to belts) and they just add another dimension to your outfit.
i really enjoy your videos they are very informational.they are allot better to watch than the other one. on you tube it's called gentleman's gazette for some reason it makes no sense and it's very annoying to watch
First off I don't have an account with you tube so this is going to show under my wife's name. ;) Just wanted to say nice job bud. As an airline pilot I'm stuck always wearing a uniform. It's a rare treat to get to dress up for an event in my actual suit and I want to make the most of it by adding suspenders. (previously wore some with a wedding tux and really enjoyed the feel and look) Thanks for the quick briefing on proper protocol to pull it off in style. Armed with your valuable insight I will be purchasing this evening a set to compliment the event and my custom suit. Thanks for the efforts buddy. Cheers-
im one of the guys with a large belly and its so annoying to have the belt throttle you all day at work Im definitely considering suspenders, but it does look like a bit of works needed, especially for 3 or 4 pairs of business pants ill check it out
I'm a trucker and when I changed to this career I noticed belts dig into me and it hurt bad. so I had to make the switch. now I'm trying to make it look better
Thankyou so much. I never knew any of this. I have suspenders but since my pants are too small I haven't used them. Plus when I did it felt like I was wearing a g string hahah. Checked out your infographic and know I can buy the right size. I have always wanted to wear suspemders all the time since I do carry my weight around my gut and have to pick my pants up all the time. Hencewhy people think I'm trying to be "gangster", while I'm trying to dress smart casual.
Love your videos, never had a dad to show me this kind of stuff now that I'm making good money I'm watching UA-cam videos about what kind of suspenders to buy O_o anyway you got a subscriber
ok so i conceal carry, and wear a belt for stiffness when drawing from a holster at gun meets.now the weight of the firearm off my pants makes them sag to my right.so a belt and suspender combo fits what i do because it prevents the sag.is that an exception?
Get a belt that's actually built for carry. Something with thick leather and a steel core. Alien Gear makes great belts just for that along with any assortment of holster you could desire.
I found a Ralph Lauren suspenders on a pair of pants but The dress pants ended up being really really small but they said 34 on them, so I didn’t mind checking them out any further, anyway I took the suspenders off and I was going to sew buttons on a pair of Joseph a bank, but I’m not good at that so I ended up just getting regular pens. I did it the right way and they look real good
Started put suspenders.because got operated on my stomach for hernia....feel much better..i feel my food going down...belt could give you heart burn..ect...
I don't understand why people is still judging me when i have suspenders! Suspenders is the best thing ever! Actually i Love suspenders more than belts❤️❤️
Same! Belts don't stop the pants from slipping so well as suspenders, they give me that awful muffin top look and they have actually deformed my body over the years, it's like I have a second waist, or two hips... I usually wear mine under my shirt because I already dress all black metal and I don't want to look like a neo nazi. And tucking the shirt inside my pants is a great way to enhance my belly. Which I don't want to. It's a bit of a hassle to go to the bathroom, but I'm usually wearing a coat or a sweater anyway, so it doesn't make that much of a difference.
You forgot the most important pro - The comfort of not having a tight piece of leather (belt) wrapped around your waist. I wear my pants one size bigger than I need and with suspenders I can be comfortable and at lunch, I can go out with the guys and eat a full meal and not come back to the office and be uncomfortable sitting down. Plus belts are hard to find one that has the holes exactly where you need them but suspenders are easy to adjust to the perfect fit. I am also over 50, married and a bit overweight so comfort is much more important to me than looks.
Real Men Real Style Thanks for the chart. I've been having trouble finding the right size suspenders. I am on the Duluth Trading Company website now checking out what they've got.

Are they still together?
@offroadguy7772 I wanna know
Almost 6 years old, but the information is timeless. Thank you. You still around?
I started wearing suspenders for work because the belt couldn't keep up with all the running and stretching. Now I wear them regularly.
+Francisco Hernandez Good for you!
Same here. Best thing i have done for work attire/ life style. Suspenders are 100% more functional than a belt.
I wore womens suspenders, blokes at work didnt like it
Me too but for school ;-)
Suspenders make my hernia feel better than a belt
I would suggest the button leather end suspenders for sure. You will have to sew 6 buttons into any pants you intend on wearing with them, but the effort is definitely worth it. They have a very timeless look to them.

Belt with suspenders... *skin crawls*
there's a guy at my school that does that everyday
it's much bad because I want to say something to him
honestly though

Wow. I've honestly never heard of a woman wearing suspenders. I reckon you're gonna look the bee's knees. Go for it.
I remember my grandfather wore suspenders and belt. I never really understood it since I figured their function was the same, to keep the pants up. I once asked him why he chose to wear both. So if anyone can use that to make sense of the suspenders with belt, I'm glad. If not.. Meh..
The ''real'' Suspendertrousers have side adjusters ;) thats why you should not wear Belt+Suspenders. But if he could make it work why not
Me too do the same .

I only know this because it applies to me, concealed carrying a firearm is another reason to wear a belt with suspenders.
Concealed carry is also a valid belt/suspenders combo reason
Just switched over from belts to suspenders, especially for work.. best shift I ever made. Belts just do not cut it anymore.
+BoscoVapes awesome - thanks!
Anthony you have always given good advise. I switched over to suspenders last year based on you ebook. I'm only 5'6". I do feel better about my height. And isn't that a minor point of your messages, to feel better about yourself by dressing with style.
Will Reeves of course - dressing sharp gives you more confidence :)
Watching this before a party I’m a larger man and just went with the suspenders than the belt. Great video you made it work for me this time
They look super cool if they match your tie.
Even better if the metal parts of the suspenders matches your tie bar.
I got a pretty good smile out of the "Perhaps you're a dancer" with the image of Lindy Hop. I am a lindy hopper myself and suspenders help a lot.
pretty useful, I want to shift into wearing suspenders to work with suits, I have a weight problem and they look cool.
Good tips for wearers of suspenders. Thank you.
Thanks! This really help me me out! Team suspenders! I need more button ones because I'm big and I wear them mostly with dress pants!
Would love to see more fashion tips for big men with large stomachs!
This is so helpful when it comes to figuring out how to dress boys. Thank you!
This video was hard to watch. Lol. You're DEFINITELY much more comfortable in front of the camera now. You've come a long way sir.
Bought some dockers suspenders for a funeral..... Held up great.
Thanks for the video Antonio. Myself, I'm a huge fan of suspenders. I have several pairs. IMHO I think buttons are really the only way to go.
Aaron Halladay you're welcome!
This is really super helpful. Thanks to the gentleman who did this.
Foster Brown glad you liked it!
thanks for the info man ! really great !
6:08 what length for taller people, specifically 6'11"
I've been planning to switch from belt to suspenders and this is a big help. Thanks!
Miguel dela Cruz great to hear that!
I've preferred suspenders since I saw al Pacino wear them in the godfather. I love there superior support(compared to belts) and they just add another dimension to your outfit.
Should the leather on the suspender tabs match your shoes, akin to have a black belt with black shoes?
Ben Graves yes
Real Men Real Style
Thanks for the quick response. I have learned a lot from your videos.
I wear that with my vest the most of the time, thank you sir...
As it should be
Simply wow.
i really enjoy your videos they are very informational.they are allot better to watch than the other one. on you tube it's called gentleman's gazette for some reason it makes no sense and it's very annoying to watch
thanks for the help ! just sewed buttons inside my new suit trousers ~! .
First off I don't have an account with you tube so this is going to show under my wife's name. ;)
Just wanted to say nice job bud. Cheers-
Leigh Akin thanks for the awesome feedback - cheers!
Depending how big you are? Belts are usually good to hold up the front. Suspenders are good to hold up the back!
im one of the guys with a large belly and its so annoying to have the belt throttle you all day at work
Im definitely considering suspenders, but it does look like a bit of works needed, especially for 3 or 4 pairs of business pants
ill check it out
I'm a trucker and when I changed to this career I noticed belts dig into me and it hurt bad. so I had to make the switch. now I'm trying to make it look better
Excellent video, ill be making the move, now that I know more about the types of clips, cheers
Hencewhy people think I'm trying to be "gangster", while I'm trying to dress smart casual.
matt sue great to hear that!
Love your videos, never had a dad to show me this kind of stuff now that I'm making good money I'm watching UA-cam videos about what kind of suspenders to buy O_o anyway you got a subscriber
I'm a Dad. I've sent my son youtube clips from RMRS but he won't listen to me. Damn kids!
ok so i conceal carry, and wear a belt for stiffness when drawing from a holster at gun meets.now the weight of the firearm off my pants makes them sag to my right.so a belt and suspender combo fits what i do because it prevents the sag.is that an exception?
Just dont carry a gun, problem solved
Well, according to him yes. By the way, I bet you would look very nice with all of that.
Get a belt that's actually built for carry. Something with thick leather and a steel core. Alien Gear makes great belts just for that along with any assortment of holster you could desire.
nuggets of fashion gold!
+Steve Gunter :)
Very informative. I only wish I'd seen this before I bought my suspenders.
Are
I personally like belts more than suspenders, but I do have some of suspenders, so might as well get some use out of it
You have helped me make the move to suspenders. Much appreciated!
you have good infos, good points, you tell it very understanding and praktikal. a good video thanks
The speaker is very professional.
+Justin Dell Thanks!
+Real Men Real Style You're welcome. :)
I learned way more than i thought i would. Great video
Was looking to see how to put them on without the assistance of a helper but still useful.
Excellent informative video. Work suspenders i never knew about, until now. Thanks.
It would be great to have the measurements in the metric system
Suspenders are life changing. I now loathe the occasions where I have to wear belts.
As a VERY short man (only 5'5") are suspenders a good idea? Or are they best avoided in short chaps? What should they match? Your pants? Your shoes?
Suit is looking sharp in this vid, my man
Real Men Real Style Thanks for the chart. I've been having trouble finding the right size suspenders. I am on the Duluth Trading Company website now checking out what they've got.
woodsman105 great to hear that!
