- Suspenders/braces 101 for men, what we need to know and how to wear them. Suspenders are one of those items that not alot of guys wear. Its seen as a grandpa style and although it is very classic this is a great look for everyone.This video goes through what to know and how to wear suspenders/braces. It's tough if you do not know how to wear suspenders because it's one of those accessories that you don't see men wearing all the time.

I’m a older tradesman and rock the suspenders, I get a lot of positive comments about my old school look. I’m proud of that.

@@IAMMRMARTINEZ to be honest the only complaint i have about clip suspenders is that they tend to fall off quicker but since i wear belt loop dress pants i just fasten the suspenders to the belt loops to give them a better grip, But i should invest in a pair of button suspenders

Suspenders inspire. You can definitely use them to change a look. I wear them a lot, and even wear them over sweaters in the winter. You definitely can tuck in lots of sweaters if you've got the build and/or the right pants. It's a rustic/dapper look.
Hi Josh, thanks for the comment man. I also have worn them under sweaters and cardigans (especially on pants that are a bit too big on the waist). Interesting about tucking in the sweater, I feel like it would have to be like a very thin sweater because a heavy one would just billow out of the suspenders. I do agree about the owning it statement as I've said before somebody could have a eyeball in the middle of their forehead but with the right personality and the right Charisma it becomes a plus

I accidentally clipped my suspenders to my underwear and gave myself a wedgie 🤓
i usually sew my own suspender buttons, make sure they are spaced between 3 and 2,5 inches , and that the first button on the front is around the same line with the crease/pleat, also just a few tips i found useful : don't wear super slim suspenders, don't wear suspenders with low rise trousers. don't wear clip ons if you want proper suspenders and no fabric damage,

you are one Dapper Don buying a pair for my work pants they're getting tired of seeing my butt crack all the time and the belt just doesn't seem to work I really like wearing my denim overalls they are really comfortable
I do hardwood floor installation and refinishing. Up and down on my knees all day. I have a heavier duty clamp style, and I do wear them with a belt because I have tool sheaths on the belt. I got so comfortable with them that I just always wear suspenders..
Same here - I think you have to have a belt if you're a workman because you want to keep the weight off your lower back and waist.

I made my own for fishing with a pouch on either side. I call em Fishspenders. I used a rope instead of elastic.

This is more of a flashy pretty boy suspenders but I wear em for work and heavy labor. The belt + suspenders can be vital if you have loose work pants I would suggest using both so that ur pants are not too loose around ur waist. I switched to suspenders only when theres back pain and having a belt might not be the cause of the pain but surely its aggravating the pain so suspenders will allow you to hold your pants up and give your waist a huge break and let em breath a lil. If it's too weird looking switch to overalls.

I don't know why but lately my pants want to fall down no matter how tight I cinch my belt. I am really considering the suspenders route. I didn't know about suspender buttons. Very helpful. Thanks.

Great video. Question, I dont see anybody posting videos about where the patch should be on your back. I wear Y backs but I feel the patch rides too high. I like the adjusters to be mid chest on the front but again it makes me think its causing the patch to ride too high. It lands between 2 to 3 inches below my back collar. Am I over thinking it?

Nice tips. I take exception with two things:
Bow tie matching suspenders? No. Coordinate, never matchy-matchy.
Clip on bow tie? No! It's not hard to learn to tie one.
Alan, I agree you can always find something that coordinates, never match exactly. Its like a pocket square and a tie. No, no clip on bow ties.
I saw Heath ledger use suspenders with a simple no collar button shirt and looked pretty cool. Masculine and hip look. Can be causal and dressy
clip on suspenders suck anyway because they chew up your pants and have a habit of coming unclipped at the worst time. Hammer on buttons suck too because the pin will eventually work a hole through your pants and fail.

You forgot the most important pro - The comfort of not having a tight piece of leather wrapped around your waist. I wear my pants one size bigger than i need and with suspenders I can be comfortable and at lunch I can go out with the guys and eat a full meal and not come back to the office and be uncomfortable sitting down. Plus belts are hard to find one that has the holes exactly where you need them but suspenders are easy to adjust to the perfect fit.

for me suspenders and belts have different purposes. suspenders to hold up pants and a belt to hang things like holsters. I can't go with just a belt as with my belly a belt is either cutting me in half or my pants are falling down.
How high should the buckles be on your suspenders? Or does it not matter and only depends on the size of them?
Ok i could see a tactical belt with a tactical looking suspenders. Hold your tools and whatever you want. Also i think we can step up the suspender game with an outside button. Put a nice adjustable back and front and a button end on it. Make sure you have enough buttons for all your pants
Just had a kidney transplant and my belt runs across my incision site making wearing anything but gym pants painful. I think suspenders will be the way to go.
In 2022 the idea of using suspenders to hold up your pants it’s pretty weird, but the look of them is still cool. I don’t think I would have a problem wearing a black belt matching my black suspenders with gold accents on each. I look at them more as like a gun shoulder holster that functions the same but has belt loops at the ends FOR using with a belt.

Suspenders are great for EDC.
A belt and suspenders serve one same purpose. But a belt also holds holsters while suspenders do not. Phone, blade, guns ext... Matching colors leaves looking good still/as well.

Can you do a cloth vs elastic vs leather with suspenders? I don’t know what I should wear with what. Like can I wear elastic suspenders with a suit or is it just street wear. Idk I would love to see a pro and cons of all of them as well as what you should wear them with.
ALWAYS wear an old/tatty 1 1/2" belt and Clip-on suspenders/braces with your jeans.

Obviously, for you it's all about "look". Well, if that's you obsession, there are worse ones. But the problem with your presentation is that you don't recognize the major advantage of suspenders: the fact that with them your pants accompany your movements. Sit down with suspenders on and then sit down with a belt on and you'll immediately feel the difference. One more thing: you only mention 2 options - buttons and clips. Clips are generally a bad choice, since they easily loosen and become unattached. There are suspenders that attach with a swivel clip to the belt loops of pants. They're excellent.
I would wear them strictly for style. And to snap them 😅👌

Thanks for watching brother. You can put them on to denim or trousers but you have to have suspender buttons. If you get clip ons you dont have to worry

Belt + Suspenders is an absolutely awesome combo, anyone who tells you it's a fashion fopaux can suck on rocks lol. I only wish I knew how much of a difference suspenders with a belt can make, especially if you work trades for a living. There is literally no other way to wear a tool belt then with BOTH Suspenders and belt together.

You can wear suspenders with a belt if you carry a multitool and conceal carry. Cell phone it's a great support system just like a soldiers lbe equipment I use to wear. Yes if you are extremely dressed up perhaps it may not look proper but in today's lifestyle men have much more items they may need to carry so we need to reconsider not style but overall support comfort and necessity. Also you can wear the belt much looser

I do now, tired of my belt digging in to my waist, I’m a carpenter who wears suspenders on my tool rig, but when not wearing rig I’ve always wore a belt to hold weight of tape measure, no more!
