Lovely film. Brought back so many memories. I worked on the Isle of Wight from 1971 to 1973 and loved it there. I lived in Ryde, but nearly bought a house boat in Bembridge harbour. Hardly anything has changed. Still a wonderful place.
Well filmed . 👍 I was an Isle of Wight County Council bus driver . It was called 'Wight Bus' , and all the single decker busses and coaches where white . They trained me up back in 1998 , when I was 40 years young , and I left the job in 2008. Wight Bus came to an end a few short years after I left . A number of the council drivers joined Southern Vectus . I'm glad I had the experience of driving for Wight Bus . I saw most of the island with the various driving jobs they gave me. This included , driving special needs children and adults from their homes to their schools or work places , doing regular school runs , coach outings , and normal fare paying passenger services .... I will say though ; it's a challenging job on lots of levels and though it had its perks , in time , it got too stressful for me . 🧐 10 years with Wight Bus were enough , and I very much doubt I would have lasted a month with Southern Vectus because of the pressures . Kudos to those bus drivers still working on the Island ..👌 🏝️🇬🇧
I’m so glad I come across this site of the trip around the inland because It been 66 years when I left with my family and now live in Australia. I must also applaud the driver in his skills driving on vert narrow roads and of reversing with cars on each side of the road. And I must thank the person who took the film and the window (well we all do have that bit of problem. We use to live on Newport Rd. and grow up in Bumbridge.. Thanks
i was virtualing traveling with you all on the bus using my google map to match the landscape... what trip! saving $$$ on airfare and hotel.. thank you for this guided tour. now i can tell people i have been to Isle of Wright! from brooklyn, new york
That's why when I do local trips I often put in street names so people can follow along on Google lol. Airfares are murder right now my brother just booked a premium plus seat to UK this week it was more than double what I paid last year. On trip last year to UK and Ireland I stayed in Hostels had a great time with the "Young People" In Southampton I paid £80 for a hotel room in Summertime Good Luck if you going this year.
My family and I spent our summer holidays for a few years, back to back on the island. We used to travel down each summer from Essex. The last time I was personally on the island was in 1970 for the music festival that had Jimi Hendrix as the headliner. It stuns me to think how rapidly the years have passed. 😮
A great bus ride I’ve been to the Isle of Wight threetimes the first time in the early 1950s with the school this must be a couple of years old this video because the grand hotel was demolished I stayed in there in the early 1960s for a week only one day of rain I would like to go back to the Isle of Wight but at the age of 78 I don’t think I’ll make it once again a great Bus ride thank you very much
@Ray Viray-Cox was gonna say it had to be atleast last year sometime, bus station you left from is completely closed off atm, due to it being revamped
I loved the Stairs that go over the railway lines by the bus station, when I made a video of the Hovercraft from atop those stairs it makes the Hovercraft seem likes its coming into My Sitting Room lol, Bus/Train station could have had some better services though.
I cant believe I sat and watched that for 90 minutes, I have to say I enjoyed it all, and Id love to visit some day, so thanks to you for your time and efforts, you did a wonderful job, The Isle of Wight looks busy but lovely. Thanks.
I am a retired coach driver and Did tours of the island a number of times, always enjoyed it in spite of the narrow roads. Used to hate tinsel and turkey tours , the island is not so good in the depth of winter.
If you do visit don't look at the weather forecast for Southampton, look at the forecast for Northern France. It is more likely to be correct even though Southampton is much closer.
Looks maybe (it was often described in tourist publicity as England in Miniature) but there is a definite different feel to the Island which is noticeable as soon as you get off the ferry. Very difficult to convey on film.....
As you hear in the video we all applauded and the driver asked me if I had managed to get it on Video, I held off posting the video because of how dirty the window was lol. Thanks for you comment.
Hope you speak for annotations because the subtitles, aside from red color is hard to read when background is light color and exceeds on left & right of screen. Thanks!
This video is plagued by what appears to be the inability of the camera to always be in focus while on the move. The problem exists on some other channels. Additionally, the red print sometimes on the screen is virtually illegible. The retention of delays at traffic lights etc. is as frustrating to view as it is in reality. Who enjoys waiting in traffic?

Such smooth roads. Must be lovely riding on them.
I visited Isle of white some 20 years ago, and it is a delightful Island.
Last on the Isle Of Wight almost 40 years ago, this video brought back some happy memories. Great stuff, Thank You.
Thanks for watching
Awesome driving, reversing back up the street. Well done driver. Isle of White looks beautiful.

Brilliant driving by a highly skilled driver and it also proves that not all heroes wear capes !

I used to live on the Isle of Wight. Its a very pretty place
👍👍👍👍👍👍Nice Ride. As someone else said...saved me a Plane ticket !

Very nice. Thanks for uploading the vid.
went there with my mum a few years before she passed away we both loved it god i miss her
Thank you for the views here too-very nice of course. Well done too!
Not sure what I was expecting...but it looks like any other part of rural England !!.💕🇬🇧🇺🇦
It is but it has its own attraction as you will discover if you ever visit.
If you do visit don't look at the weather forecast for Southampton, look at the forecast for Northern France. It is more likely to be correct even though Southampton is much closer.
To go on the hovercraft was amazing,

Great video
Thanks
Looking forward to my return to the island in May. The first time in about 15 years.
Lucky you we are expecting our third Snow Storm in the last seven days
I went there in 94 and it was the strangest place I've ever been like time had stood still from the 50s .
when I lived there in the 50s, it was like time had stood still from the 30s.
@@nickmiller76 when my Grandfather went there in the 1930s he said it felt like ..
1955 I broke my leg on the Isle of Wight - they could have put cones around it!
That reverse manoeuvre was done expertly at the slowest possible speed.

Small world, that's my neighbours getting on the bus @9:55

What does this your cost
Don't advertise how nice the isle of wight is, Next thing it will look like London.
I'm sure during music festivals and long weekends it probably is quite packed.
i was at school in ryde in the 70's. when was this filmed ?
July 2022

thanks for the feedback
That's the first bus service (as opposed to sightseeing tour) I've seen with a recorded commentary
Good 'First Group' tour, but does anyone remember independent 'Southern Vectis'. I had shares in that lovely Company.
First Group?
It's Go-Ahead
@@AndreiTupolev Yes: but it was firstly first.
@@iwbus At the time of the dissolution.
It was never First
There's another bus! ...yep 😀
That's the only problem with a bus tour. Southern Vectis busses don't have suspension. lol
And not a lot of legroom in the front seats upper deck lol

Sorry what does this tour cost
Not sure but I think its around £14 or £8.50 for a senior Check Vectis
24 hour rover ticket including all Breezer bus tours is £14.
Never been there , and now, Im glad. Ha Ha . Cant beat S Devon
yes i like Devon as well
And you save being ripped off £££ on ferry crossing ££ most expensive bit of water to in the world 😱
Interesting tour but I don't really like all these cuts...
annoying commentary , much prefer peace n quiet and look at what YOu want to look at
YOU SHOULDN'T WEAR BRACELETS ON THE SAME HAND. SECOND - JUC IS THE MOST AWKWARD DESIGN FOR FEMALE JEWELRY
Seen a video last night about the isle of shit, they need to pick better people a diver and a singer with some umpa lumpas
Was that intended to make sense when you wrote it?
@@AndreiTupolev I doubt it ...
There are more polite ways to criticize an English holiday/ residential island 🙄🇬🇧🏝️
If you dont like the Island there's a ferry leaving every hour
